Runescape Auto Talker

Posted by amber

What is a Runescape Auto Talker
The Runescape auto talker is a very powerful yet harmful macro used by a lot of people in Runescape. The auto talker, also known as a Runescape auto typer, allows you to repeat a word or phrase in quick succession without having to re-type it every time. The auto talker can do many things in Runescape chat; offering a range of effects and colors that will spice up your typing. This may all sound very appealing, and you may think you want one, but there is more to consider before you go looking to download your very own free Runescape auto talker.

Where can you Download a Free Runescape Auto Talker?
Whilst we don’t promote the use of auto typers, there are a range of sites where you can obtain yourself a free Runescape auto talker and I’m sure a quick search on Google with terms like “Runescape auto talker” or “download free Runescape auto typer” would start you off in the right direction. However if you do go searching for these sorts of bots and macros be aware that if you do not take the right precaution you could end up downloading a virus or trojan that could be harmful for your computer and any could result in malicious hackers getting access to not only your Runescape account but also your other other important online account that you log onto daily.

Can the Runescape auto talker get your Runescape account Banned?
Yes, although many people use this tool because, it is at the risk of having your Runescape account banned. Jagex has software to help detect players using autoer programs, not just the auoter talker but a range of other auto programs the auto fighter, woodcutter, miner, fisher, seller, buyer etc. In addition to Jagex keeping a keen eye out for autoers, there are many players reporting people using such program. So if you are going to try using auto programs be careful, because if Jagex finds out that you have been using an autoer it can result in a significant amount of black marks or even a permanent ban.

So Why Would You Use a Runescape Auto Typer?
Runescape players use auto typers because they reduce player’s need to repeat the same phrase over and over again when they need to say the same thing over and over again, like when you are selling or buying an item(s). You will find many merchants use this auto because retyping the same thing over and over again can get very repeative.

Does This Auto Have Nice Effects?
Yes, as mentioned earlier this auto talker has cool effects. It can make your Runescape text drop, shake, look like a wave in the ocean, or just scroll in and then out. The auto talker has color effects that can glow, flash different colors, or just stay as one solid color. These are all great for getting some attention when you are in very busy areas.

Runescape Pics

Runescape Pictures
There is nothing sweeter than gaining that goal level you have been working at for the last 3 months, or whilst your out on pking session there pile some guy in full rune or dragon after a titanic battle, but these special moments in Runescape are rare and fleeting. The solution of course is taking a picture of your Runescape triumphs.
How Do You Take Runescape Pictures
It is really quite simple to take a picture in Runescape. All you have to do to take a picture is click the “Print Screen” button which is also sometimes represented as “Prt Sc” this should save a copy of your computer screen at that moment to your clipboard. Then all you need to do is go to your desired photo/image editor like MS Paint or Photoshop and then paste the image into a new image and then you should be able to save your Runescape picture into your desired format.

Editing Your Runescape Pics
As mentioned above to save you Runescape pics to your computer for later viewing you need to use an image editor. Now in addition to just saving your Runescape pics often you want to clean them up and edit them slightly so they can be displayed on mediums such as websites and forums or printed out. Now software such Photoshop are great for cropping and editing your Runescape pictures also photoshop gives you an assortment of file types you can save you Runescape images as, as well as a range of qualities that the images can be saved as. You can also apply a number of interesting effects to your images as well.

Fake Runescape Pictures
Runescape pictures are often a means by which to show others your achievements in Runescape but with image software like Photoshop it is quite easy to edit image to fake your stats or bank account images. Some of the more popular types of Runescape pictures to fake are Runescape bank pictures to show that they are exponentially richer than they actually are. People also often doctor their stats screen shots but it is fairly easy to find out if this has been faked because you can very easily look up other player’s stats in the Runescape hi scores.

Uploading and Sharing Your Runescape Screenshots
Once you have your Runescape screenshots all cropped and cleaned up you might like to share them with other people for them to comment. Often the most popular place to share you Runescape screenshots is on Runescape forums like Runescape Boards. To post your Runescape pictures on many Runescape forums you need to upload your image files to somewhere on the web first. Two of the more popular image hosting services for Runescape screenshots are imageshack and photobucket and they are very simple to use. However if you are a Runescape Boards member you can also contribute to the Runescape Boards Player Gallery as well which also allows others to leave comments about your images.

Well that concludes this little article about Runescape pictures. Thanks for reading it I hope you found it informative. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask them over at Runescape Boards.

Runescape Rare Items

Posted by amber

Runescape Rare Items
Runescape Rare Items have gripped the Runescape economy and in a way are like the equivalent coastline real estate of real world. Why do I compare Runescape rare items to that of coast line or beach front real estate? Well because like beach front real estate there is a very limited quantity available in good locations and there definitely isn’t more of it going on the market. Runescape rare items are the same, and their value is skyrocketing, and with every passing month the value of such rare items is increasing.
Why Are Runescape Rare Items So Expensive?
Well because back in 2001 and 2002 when these items were dropped they were dropped in a fashion that allowed them to be tradable. Yet they were only dropped brief period in time, the specific holiday that the item was created for. This of course meant that for any players that weren’t playing on that particular day and wasn’t able to pick one of these rare holiday items up it meant that they had to buy one off another player. This meant that there was an active supply and demand for these holiday items like party hats, santa hats, Halloween masks etc.

Now it is basic economics that price generally equals the equilibrium point where supply meets demand. So if supply equals demand then this explains why are the prices of Runescape rare items are so high. See the supply of the these Runescape rare items is essentially fixed or decreasing, meaning that with ever passing month the supply for these rare items is actually decreasing. Why? Well because every time someone with one of these rare holiday items quits Runescape without selling or trading their rare item away that is another rare item that leaves the market which means there are less Runescape rare items to be purchased and therefore this reduces supply and pushes prices up.

Now in addition to there being continual pressure on prices to increase due to the decrease in supply there is also an additional force on the demand side again further pushing the prices of such Runescape rare items up. This is due to the fact that the demand for these items is almost always increasing due to the popularity of Runescape itself increasing. What do I mean by this? Well basically every time new players join Runescape they too become another person that would love to own a Runescape rare item. So with every passing day, week, month, year, not only is supply dropping by demand is increasing. All of this eventually leads to strong upward pressure on prices.

Runescape Rare Item Duplicator
Now the only time in history that the price of Runescape rare items has significantly dropped was when someone worked our how to duplicate the rare Runescape item, the pink party hat, and of course if you could duplicate any Runescape item with your duplicator your would of course duplicate the most expensive ones which in this case was pink party hats which at the time were the most expensive of the party hats. So how did this affect the price of Runescape rare items? Well they plummeted. Why? Because there was a huge increase in supply of rare items in combination with a reduction in demand for rare items seeing people were unsure of their future, and both of these changes in supply and demand put huge downward pressure on Runescape rare item prices. Of course once Jagex had fixed the duplicating glitch prices once again began to rise again slowly to today’s heights of being multi-million Runescape gold purchases.

Purchasing your Runescape Rare Items
Well to own a wearable Runescape rare item is quite a privilege these days, and a privilege that I’d imagine 99% of Runescape players won’t ever get the chance to experience. The sad reality is that the prices of Runescape rare items is quickly becoming out of reach for new players. Why? Well at the rate of inflation of these items it is hard to see new player being able to develop their characters to the point where they are able to earn enough Runescape gold to be able to pay for such items is probably getting out of reach. The amount of gold it costs to purchase these Runescape rare items seems to be close to doubling every 3 – 6 months. So even if a new player was able to make around 100k and hour on average and was able to play for 3 hours a day then that would mean that they could earn around 2 million Runescape gold a week. That that isn’t a small task by the average Runescape players standards and when considering the cheapest of these wearable Runescape rare items is now over 20 million gold you are looking at it taking in excess of 10 weeks to make this sort of money, by which time the price of the item will have increased no doubt by at least 50%. As you can see it really is an upward battle in regards to obtaining a wearable Runescape rare item these days.

Runescape Rare Items Future
So what is the future for such Runescape rare items? Well one would think that the price would continue to go up, maybe not as fast as it traditionally has been rising, due to the fact that prices are extremely high at the moment and well out of the reach of the HUGE majority of Runescape players. So is there any potential for prices of Runescape rare items to drop? Well the only three circumstances that I can envisage a drop in Runescape rare prices would be in the following cases; someone manages to create another Runescape item duplicator which would again force prices of rare items down quite sharply. I couldn’t predict the likelihood of something like this happening again in the future but I would imagine it would be quite low. Secondly the prices of such rare items would plummet if Jagex made the announcement that all discontinued items would be removed from the game. I don’t know how quickly prices would plummet but I’d imagine that you would probably see the prices drop to a few thousand Runescape gold very quickly, but I don’t think Jagex would do this because they would probably lose around 20% of players doing it. The third way I envisage that the prices of Runescape rare items would drop would be if the popularity of Runescape itself would drop creating a situation where the number of people demanding such items would drop and as long as the number of Runescape rare items available to purchase doesn’t drop this should bring around a corresponding price drop in the Runescape rare items market.

If you’re saving up for a Runescape rare item then best of luck and I highly recommend you start saving now and work as quickly as you can because otherwise you may lose your battle against Runescape’s inflation.

3-D Update

Posted by amber

 3-D Update

Just wanted to let you know some exclusive behind-the-scenes news from Jagex!

The Runescape team is still busy working on the 3D update - a fairly massive undertaking as you might imagine! The 3D characters are now pretty much complete, with Andrew now turning his attention to the landscape design. The use of polygons allows for far more attention to detail, as well as giving a more enhanced sense of proportion.

As for buildings, the paper thin walls of old will be making way for structures that are satisfyingly chunky, and the windows are now extruded from the walls, rather than being flat texture maps.

Perhaps best of all will be the use of a moving vertical camera. Take an aerial view and get the drop on your enemies, before swooping in to see them face to face.

We don’t yet have a final release date for all this, but at this stage you could say that things are looking pretty tasty. As usual please remember any previews of the our work will ONLY be on runescape.com NEVER enter your password anywhere except runescape.com. We will of course keep you posted on all this.

I think the best Money make skill in runescape is woodcutting (wc). Some people think that woodcutting doesent help you at all. Well i mage at least 8M in 4 weeks with lvl 1 woodcutting. But you have to be ready to do some serious woodcutting.
ok getting from lvl 1-30 is easy… just cut regualt logs until lvl 15at lvl 15 there a good spot for oaks at lumbrige genural store when you get a full invitorty just sell it.

cut oaks till lvl 30…. then ur able to cut willows, which should make you pretty good money, if ur a non member, then cut willows till lvl 60( it may seem like alot but it will take you maybe 3 days) if your a member then you COULD switch to cutting maples. But i dont reccomend it, it is alot slower xp but sellign for about 5 times the amount of willows(20gp-50gp) But if you wana make more money fast then go for maples until lvl 60.

When ur lvl 60… this is when you make some serious money. Your able to vut Yews now. Wich sell for 200-300 each.If ur a non-member, well then ur outa luck theres no really good yew spots. But id you a member theres a great place south of the flax feilds. Also if ur a member ur gona be really rich. Cut about 5k yews. which should get you to lvl 75. You should make a minimum of 1 mil and a maximum of 1.5 mil outa those yews. This should take you about 2 weeks

When ur lvl 75 ur home free you can cut magic logs now, which sell for 1k each.Yes! 1k each. If you cut about 500 a day for 1 week you should make 6.5M. Theres a really good place to cut south of seers village and west of flax feilds.

Now i cut about a maximum of 300 magic logs a day and a minimum of 100 logs a day. make 100k-300k a day.

Heres the prices of all the logs…
Normal-nothing there worthless sell em at genural store of drop them
Oak-Worthless do same a normal logs
Willow-20gp-100gp(if ur really lucky) each
Maple-100gp-200(if ur lucky)each
Yew-200gp-300gp each
Magic-1k each
*Note* a lvl 75 woodcutter can cut magic logs just as fast as a lvl 99 woodcutter.

Behind the Scenes

Posted by amber

We’ve written a lot about combat-orientated multiplayer content in RuneScape recently. This mostly focused on the way that it had been relegated to the sidelines, until the introduction of PvP worlds invited it back into the heart of the game. There’s one aspect, however, that we haven’t mentioned: its relationship with skill-orientated multiplayer content.

We felt that producing a piece of content, which would appeal both to those players who prefer combat and those who prefer non-combat skills, was a major challenge for us. So, we put our thinking caps on and the result is this month’s headline update: ‘Stealing Creation’. Stealing Creation will be a new ’safe’ minigame, where teams of players work together to control resources across the game area. This area will change each time the game is played, so you will need to keep your tactics varied.

The game will focus on collecting ’sacred clay’, thought to be the building blocks used by gods to create worlds. You’ll enter the minigame with nothing, which means you’ll need to use your skills to gather resources and make the equipment you need to dominate the game. For those of you who are just as happy making swords as you are using them, it will offer lots of choice as to the kind of experience you want to have playing the game. But what of the pure skillers? Can you create equipment for your battling buddies while they defend your back? Can those doing the fighting rely on someone else to make them powerful? With the added ability to fight as a clan, battles can be organised for very specific groups of players. So, if you want to gather with your clan buddies to take on your enemies, you will be able to.

Speaking of enemies, Zamorak was once mortal like the rest of us, but through clever manipulation and some devious planning he became revered as a god in Gielinor. The god wars that followed brought about great destruction and change – it would be impossible to do that now, wouldn’t it? What does it take for something like that to happen? Gathering some of the most important artefacts and keenest minds to research them would be a good start…but that is bound to attract attention, isn’t it?

That’s where our November quest will join things. Specialists and concerned dignitaries will be gathered to discuss the whereabouts of the Staff of Armadyl, an ancient and powerful artefact from RuneScape’s distant past. All they will need is a willing adventurer to conduct the more interesting parts of the…investigation. Will this link to the mysterious dragonkin symbols found recently, or the rumours of the dragon forge? While Guthix sleeps through the centuries, treachery is afoot, and terrible dangers appear on the horizon. In our first Grandmaster quest ever, with the longest, deepest storyline we have ever attempted, it will take an expert adventurer to find out.

Finally, after that huge update will come something much, much smaller! For a few days over the last weekend of November, you’ll notice Thanksgiving turkeys wandering around the map, gobbling and generally minding their own business. Hunt them down for some tasty drumsticks or find the turkeys in disguise for a special reward. Look out for more short celebration updates like this in the future.

Updates after November

The Phoenix

Some months ago, we asked you to vote on the next Summoning familiar, and you chose the phoenix. There were some great discussions on the forums taking the idea far beyond what we had originally imagined, so we decided to expand the idea out to another ‘Distraction and Diversion’ similar to the Shooting Star update or Bork from the Chaos Tunnels. You’ll find this update (planned for early next year) features not only a new Summoning creature and a repeatable activity, but also a quest!

Mobilising Armies

With any tactical game you need to spend a long time fine-tuning its different aspects to try to make it as fair, balanced and fun as possible. Mobilising Armies, our headline update for December, is no different and we have been working hard to tweak the key scenarios for this: Conflict, Siege, Hoard and Rescue. We’ll have more on this update in next month’s Behind the Scenes but in the meantime we have another screenshot for you.

Mod Mark
Lead Designer – RuneScape

A number of updates have been released in 2007 – Assist System, LootShare, Duel Arena changes; read the ‘Trade and Drop Changes’ news post on the front page to see them all – specifically targeted at ending real-world trading within RuneScape. The majority of you are aware of the problems that real-world trading causes and every player is negatively affected by it in some way – even if it’s simply that we’ve had to spend time combatting this rather than creating the content you want. We’re sure you’re all aware of bots (also known as autoers or gold-farmers). You may not, however, be fully aware of just how serious an issue it is for RuneScape, its players and the massively multiplayer online gaming (MMOG) industry as a whole.

The RWT of all evil

Real-world trading (RWT) is the term we apply to the sale of RuneScape gold and items for real money (be that $US, £GBP, €euros or ¥yuan). Some players choose to buy RuneScape gold as they do not wish to spend the time or effort earning it themselves, for whatever reason – the gold-sellers do all of the work for them.

“There has been a significant increase in the amount of real-world trading this year. If we don’t find a solution to RWT now, it will ruin RuneScape.”

Andrew Gower
Lead Developer

Of course, gold-sellers have to earn this RuneScape gold somehow. They overcrowd in-game resources with their bots, exploit bugs and scam legitimate players out of items and their accounts. They are the cause of the majority of rule-breaking in RuneScape, and they must be stopped. RuneScape’s creator, Andrew Gower, sums it up perfectly: “There has been a significant increase in the amount of real-world trading this year. If we don’t find a solution to RWT now, it will ruin RuneScape.”

Real-world trading leads to all sorts of problems. We see the negatives falling into two categories: those that affect the game and those that affect our business. On the game side, the legitimate players who don’t buy gold feel their efforts are going to waste - why take the time to level skills the proper way if you can just buy some gold? It cheapens the game. Also, the players who do buy gold find it becomes so easy for them to get ahead, they get bored and leave. Mod Hobagoly, Head of RuneScape Content, says, “That’s the case with all cheating, whether it’s buying gold or cheating your way through a console game - it’s fun for a while, but the challenge goes and things quickly get boring.”

On the business side, real-world trading is just part of an even bigger problem. Mod Hobagoly says, “Real-world traders believe they are running legitimate businesses. In some cases, though, it’s essentially organised crime.” There is a whole industry built up around it exploiting cheap labour and involving illegal activities. The majority of bots that we ban from members have been paid for with stolen credit card numbers.

Such accounts don’t earn us money, they cost us money in bank refund charges - money that could be better spent on creating new content for our players; money that could help us increase the level of support our players receive. Also, in the longer-term, if we had continued to experience these problems with account fraud, then it could have led to us no longer being able to accept credit card payments from legitimate players.

The α bot

Real-world trading is a problem for every MMOG. “The first bots in RuneScape were identified by us within a few months of the game’s release,” says Andrew. “We dealt with them the best way we could at that time: by changing the game so they were no longer able to function.” The game engine, its code, has been altered many times to break macro programs. In game, the first Random Event – we call them anti-macro events (AME) – was added to the game one month after the March 2004 release of RuneScape 2.

As the game has grown, the demand for gold has grown with it, so it is worth gold-sellers’ time to make smarter bots. “We keep developing technologies to combat bots, but it’s like an arms race – we stop bots, they improve their macros, we stop them, they improve again,” says Andrew. The longer we keep doing this, the harder it’s going to be to keep stopping bots. “If we don’t break that vicious cycle now, it would just keep getting worse and worse. It could reach a point where macro software becomes undetectable.”

Who ya gonna call?

We have various Customer Support units set up to deal with the problem. Two of these are the Snapshot and Ban Appeal Team (SBAT), which investigates player-submitted Abuse Reports, and the Community Management team. Community Management’s Jagex Moderators regularly root out and instantly ban as many bots as they can find - we call this bot-busting. The Player Moderators and Forum Moderators help us to identify bots in game and on the Forums, respectively.

Another is the Investigations into the Community Unit (ICU), which looks into account theft, macros, bugs and exploits, takes down gold-selling websites and more. ICU’s Mod Chris81 says, “All Customer Support teams combined, we’re banning tens of thousands of accounts each week that belong to real-world traders. Most of these are bots, but we also secure many accounts that real-world traders have stolen, and return them to their rightful owners.” Every plausible idea mentioned on our Forums on how to remove bots, we have considered, tried or already use – for instance, we do ban IPs. We’ve also involved our lawyers and even talked to certain governments!

During 2006, we banned bot and real-world trader accounts carrying RuneScape gold and items worth over 200 billion gp. During 2007, so far, we’ve banned over 525 billion, which has a real-world value of over $2.6 million US - that’s an increase of over 250%. At that rate of growth, we’d be looking at banning over 8 trillion gp in 2010 - that’s 8,000 billion gp - which has a real-world value of over $40 million US. It’s an almost unbelievably high number, but it hammers home the sheer size of the problem we are facing and why we have to take action against it.

Finish the fight

“The Player and Forum Moderators, and other legitimate players, have put in a lot of effort and deserve recognition.”

Mod Paul M
Community Management - Player Moderator Unit
Community Management’s Mod Paul M says, “For a long time, players have thought we’re not doing anything, as they don’t see everything we do. We’ve been working on this problem every single day.” Bot-busting is our most visible method, but not the most effective. If we ban one bot, it’s easy to create a new account to take its place. It’s better to take the time to track that account and find every other account it’s linked to, then ban all of them at once. Mod Rob, Customer Support Operations Manager, adds, “We still regularly go bot-busting, though, so players can see we are doing something.”

Mod Rob continues: “We have automatic and manual systems in place to identify bots, but limited resources to deal with them. It isn’t possible to find and ban every single one.” Mod Paul M follows with, “The Player and Forum Moderators, and other legitimate players, have put in a lot of effort and deserve recognition. They see more than we ever could, so we follow up on as many Abuse Reports as possible.”

Unfortunately, these methods are reactive – find a problem then solve it – and if we just react, we’ll always be chipping away at a larger problem. Even if we spent every penny we earn on staff and systems to ban bots – which would mean no game updates – gold-sellers would still massively outnumber us. Mod Hobagoly says, “Every time we double our efforts, gold-sellers quadruple theirs. We can’t continue only using our current methods, throwing more and more resources at it.” The only way we can win is to be proactive and take the fight to them.

Removing unbalanced trade

Taking into account how serious this issue is and knowing that reactive methods could never completely stop real-world trading, what are the proactive solutions? Well, considering how much money is involved, one solution would have been to allow real-world trading. Why not just let players sell their RuneScape gold and items and take a small cut of the profits ourselves? “We’ve seen other MMOGs take that route and it works, but only to a limited extent. Some players would sell gold through their own website to avoid paying the developer a cut. Worse than that, the demand for gold was still mostly being met by players using bots and scams, ruining the experience for legitimate players,” says Mod Chris81.

Mod Hobagoly says, “It would be very difficult to find a way of allowing players to buy RuneScape items for real money that doesn’t cheapen the game.” There might be some way of doing this, and without all the negatives, but it wasn’t the right solution for ridding RuneScape of real-world traders and bots. Andrew follows with, “We looked at any number of different possible solutions. We’ve read independent studies and spoken with other people in the MMOG industry. Ultimately, the consensus is that the only way to remove the real-world trading market is to develop your game so you cannot make unbalanced trades.”

An unbalanced trade is where one player trades something of value to another player, but does not receive something back of roughly equal value. Real-world traders have used this method to trade millions of gold pieces in exchange for nothing in game, as they will already have been paid in real money. Removing unbalanced trade will mean real-world traders can’t do this, so there is no way for them to deliver gold to buyers - and if you can’t sell gold, why bother farming it in the first place?

These gold-sellers are businessmen. They’re in it for the money and are going to be looking at the bottom line: their profits. Mod Mark says, “The key phrase is ‘not profitable’. We’re changing our game in a way that doesn’t negatively affect its gameplay, but which makes real-world trading not worth the effort.” It’s a bold move to make, and one that no other MMO developer has attempted. We are fully aware of how the RuneScape community will react to such a change, which is why we have been working hard to find the best way to implement it.

Lost and found

Mod Hobagoly says, “Deciding to remove unbalanced trade was not an overnight decision – we started working on it in 2006.” The difficult part was not the removal of unbalanced trade, but the creation of new content to replace what would be lost. Andrew says, “I could have removed unbalanced trade at any time, it’s just a few lines of code.”
Will your clan be victorious in the new Clan Wars minigame?

Mod Mark says, “The easy thing would have been to say: ‘Right, let’s leave the Wilderness as it is, you just can’t pick up other players’ drops.’ Instead of just removing things, we’ve looked to replace them with something equivalent or, indeed, better.” For instance, with the way the Wilderness used to be, there was no way we could implement a reliable scoreboard – we’ve been able to now, with Bounty Hunter. Mod Mark continues: “I think Bounty Hunter and Clan Wars are actually going to be enjoyed by more players.”

Mod Hobagoly agrees, saying, “We’ve felt for a long time that some of this content needed changing anyway – especially the Wilderness – so this was a good opportunity for us to make it work better, more fun for our players and closer to our original intentions.” We are also planning additional new content to replace and improve upon anything that is lost along with unbalanced trade.

“We know it’s going to be a bumpy ride, but in the long term, RuneScape is going to be better for it.”

Mod Hobagoly
RuneScape Content
Our ability to update RuneScape so regularly puts us in a unique position within the MMOG industry: we’re able to respond to our players’ feedback very quickly. We always welcome constructive feedback from our players and the Forums are the ideal place for this. We will be watching them, as always, for valid suggestions on how we can tweak things or iron out any kinks, as we did with the Assist System. We can’t always respond to Forum threads, as we’re busy working on the game, but we are reading them.

We realise removing unbalanced trade is a big deal, but we want to assure you that this change has not been taken lightly, that we’ve exhausted all the alternatives. We’ve tried countless ways to defeat real-world trading and considered many other options to end this problem – this change was the only definite way to do so. Unbalanced trade is going from RuneScape; if anything gets lost alongside it we can find it again, new and improved, with the help and support of our players. Mod Hobagoly says, “We know it’s going to be a bumpy ride, but RuneScape is going to be better for it.”

The future starts now

There will always be a handful of people who feel it’s worth their time harassing our legitimate players to make real money, but the presence of such players in RuneScape will be significantly lessened, along with their associated rule-breaking. With the systems we’ve developed to deal with real-world traders, combined with the vigilance of our players, this handful will not pose a threat to RuneScape’s future.

Removing unbalanced trade will lead to a massive reduction in trade scams and account theft, meaning our Customer Support teams can spend more time on helping our players than dealing with Abuse Reports. Also, our development teams can expend more energy on creating new game content – new skills, expanding on existing skills, continuing quest storylines - rather than developing content to stop bots.
