This bank is popular because of how close it is to the anvil’s just to the south of it. On a populated world, most of the time sellers sell rare items (party hats, halloween masks, santa hats) on the north side of the bank. To the east of the bank is where people tend to sell Rune armour. To the south-west people buy and sell yews.

——————————————————————————–

21. Guardhouses
They are found at all the entrance to Varrock. Armed with a razor sharp bronze sword and a solid iron shield, they can be seen patrolling the area near the entrances. They may usually be a couple of middle-leveled players training on them but they don’t really drop anything of decent value.

——————————————————————————–

22. Dummy house

26. Varrock Museum
Ah the museum of Varrock! Upon entering you will be greeted by the curator, the friendly old chap with the monocle (NPC for the Shield of Arrav quest). There is some curious pieces on display on the first floor as well as some iron armor which you can telegrab. Now lets head upstairs to check it out. (No running in the museum please!)

On the second floor are some artifacts such as a pile of bones, a statue of a famous monarch of RuneScape as well as the most eye-catching piece in the museum, a gargantuan eerie statue.

——————————————————————————–

27. Varrock Sewers
Smell something funny? Well, that’s normal since we are standing at a sewer entrance after all. For an in-depth map of the sewers please see the Varrock sewer map.

——————————————————————————–

28. Varrock Church
Welcome to the city’s Saradomin Church. It is run by Father Lawrence, a NPC you need to talk to in the Romeo and Juliet quest. It is rather obvious that Father Lawrence conduct really interesting sermons which can be judged by the snoozing parishioners. There is your average altar. There is nothing upstairs except for a grand view of some of the nearby building from the top of the church.

——————————————————————————–

29. Varrock Palace
Ah yes the grand palace. The royal home of his royal highness, King Roald. You can found a pretty large force of guards on the courtyard guarding the palace vigilantly (well, at least most of them are). Through the double front doors we now enter the main building. There is a Zamorak Monk locked underneath the main staircase probably to atone for some past misdeeds.

In the throne room nearby is King Roald sporting the priced golden crown.

Just pass the room is a large and clean dining hall with some grand banquet tables covered by spotless white table clothes. Flanking the hall is a well-equipped kitchen complete with two ranges.

The palace library is nearby. There are usually a couple of warrior women in the vicinity but they are not the main attraction any way. Anyway, here’s a picture.

Inside the library is the royal librarian Reldo. You need to talk to him to start the shield of arrav quest as well as find out about the dwarfs in the Knight’s Sword quest.

Lastly before we head upstairs, Sir Prysin the knight can be found in a room near the main staircase. He is an NPC in the Demon Slayer quest.

On to the first floor, we can find a small altar probably for the palace servants but you can use it nonetheless. There is also a small guard barracks where some guards are taking some time off to relax. These may be a good place to train your ranging level on. For detailed info, check the Ranging Training guide.

Last on this floor is the royal bedroom located near the main staircase. It contains a large four-poster bed as well as a personal bath tub!

On to the top floor then! Here you can find Captain Rovin, another NPC from the Demon Slayer quest as well as the captain of the guards in the palace. Nothing much on this floor except for a force of guards training as well as being trained on. There is also a shooting range which is pretty pointless since none of the guards there have a bow and it’s for ‘private use only’.

Archery Competition

Posted by coco

The Archery Game in the Ranging Guild is the place to go if you’re looking for Ranging Experience and prizes for the points you make. Just remember, the game can be found in the Ranging Guild, so you’ll need at least level 40 Ranging to enter!

——————————————————————————–

The Ranging Guild itself can be found a short distance southwest of the Seer’s Village and north of Ardougne. A Ranging Guild Doorman will be guarding the door, and only those with a Ranging level of 40 or higher may pass.

Ranging Info

It also appears that the higher your Ranging level, the better you’ll do at the competition. You’ll hit the targets more often, and you’ll earn more points by being more accurate.

Before making your way to the competition, be sure to bring enough cash. Each game costs 200gp, and you’ll need to pay each time you want to play again. It’s a safe bet to bring around 2,000gp, as the game can often get addictive!

——————————————————————————–

The Competition

At the southeast end of the guild, you’ll find the Archery Competition. Speak to the Competition Judge and he will tell you that you can take part in the Archery Competition. You must pay 200gp in order to enter the competition each time, so be sure to bring as much money as you need!

Tell the judge that you would like to try, and then give him the 200gp. He will give you 10 Bronze Arrows to use in the game; equip them and walk over to the nearby Hay Bales.

Now you’ll be able to shoot at the Targets by choosing the “Fire-At Target” option on the one you wish to fire at. You’ll then aim and shoot an arrow at the target, and after a short period of time the Target View will appear.

This screen will show you where you hit, and how many points were scored on the right. You’ll also see how many arrows you have remaining on the left side of the screen. The scores for which part of the target you hit are as follows:

Bulls-Eye - 100 points - 50xp
Yellow - 50 Points - 25xp
Red - 30 Points - 15xp
Blue - 20 - 10xp
Black - 10 - 5xp
Missed Shot - 0 Points - 0xp
Claiming Your Reward

You can only use 10 arrows, and when you have used them all up return to the Competition Judge. He will give you a certain number of coupons or Archery Tickets depending on how well you did during the competition.

For every 10 points you get, you’ll receive 1 Archery Ticket. So for example, if you score 780 points, you’ll receive 78 Tickets. The most points you can possibly get in 1 game is 1,000– 100 tickets, but you must be an experienced Archer to accomplish this. You can repeat this process as many times as you’d like, but you must pay 200gp each time you wish to play.

——————————————————————————–

The Ticket Exchange

When you have enough Archery tickets, you’ll be able to exchange them for various Ranging items and equipment. Speak to the Ticket Merchant to the northeast and you can trade your tickets in.

Barbarian Village Dungeon

Posted by coco

Between the rocks of the Barbarian Village mine is a very special dungeon. With four floors and a range of monsters on each one, this dungeon has something for everyone, whether freeplay or member. The Barbarian Village Mine Dungeon is the home of the Stronghold of Security and is a great place to not only train combat, but learn about account safety and common scams as well!

——————————————————————————–

Getting There

The entrance to the dungeon is located in the center of Barbarian Village, near the mine.

Outside the dungeon you will find a NPC called Litara. If you talk to her, she will tell you about the dungeon and what there is to find within.

——————————————————————————–

Map of the Dungeon

——————————————————————————–

Inside the Dungeon

One of the first things you should notice when you enter the dungeon is that the doors are never alone, but situated in pairs. The first door you will go through normally, but when trying to go through the second door you will be asked a question about account security. There are 20 different questions, each having three options that you could chose from, but only one being correct. Whether you get a question right or wrong, there will also be an explanation about what to do in the situation asked about. The answers to all the questions can be found within the Knowledge Base, so it is possible for everybody to know the answer to every question.

Floor 1 - Vault of War

The top floor is the floor you will appear on once you have climbed down the ladder into the dungeon. Within view of the entrance ladder are two main things. A portal and the body of a Dead Explorer.

You can only use the portal if you have reached the reward chest in the center of the floor. If you have reached the reward chest and chose to use the portal, you will be teleported all the way to the reward room without having to go near any of the monsters!

The Dead Explorer is Litara’s brother, and he kept a diary with him during the time he was alive.

Search him and you will receive his diary.

Now that you have explored this room to the limits you need to go through the door.

You will get sucked through the first door, and when you try to go through the next will be asked a question about account security. Correctly answer it and you will be through.

This floor is full of low level monsters like Goblins and Wolves that won’t automatically attack you at any level. This makes it a good place to Range and Mage the monsters. There are walls to hide behind in several of the rooms, making it impossible for you to get hit.

The south-east room is popular for training because of the large number of level 27 Minotaurs to kill. Because not everybody picks up the bones that are dropped, this can be an effective place to train Prayer on freeplay worlds at busy times of day.

On the east side of this floor is the Gift of Peace. The first time you search it you will be given 2,000 gp and the ‘Flap’ emote.

Floor 2 - Catacomb of Famine

This floor is a lot brighter than the one that you have just come from, but has the same sort of things in it. Once again there is a portal that will take you to the reward room, which is in the center of this floor. There are also doors that you have to answer questions to get through.

There are more challenging monsters to kill on this floor, but as with most things, the harder something is, the greater the reward. The types of monster there are on this floor are Zombie, Flesh Crawler and Giant Rat. The Flesh Crawlers will attack you whatever combat level you are, but the Rats and Zombies will only attack if you are less than twice their combat level +1.

The whole of the east side of this floor is covered in a series of bends, making it take a while to cover the short distance from north to south. A lot of the walls are also straight, making it easy to work out the points on the compass.

The Flesh Crawlers are good for members to kill because of the rather high rate of Herb drops. Whenever a Herb is dropped, you will also get some low level Runes with it, making it good to train Magic as well as Herblore.

In the center of the floor you can find the ‘Grain of Plenty’. The first time you search it you will be given 3000 gp and the ‘Slap Head’ emote.

Climb the ladder in the north of this room to get down to the next floor.

Floor 3 - Pit of Pestilence

This floor starts getting darker again, but with the same features as before. A portal to get the the reward room, monsters and doors that you need to answer questions to get through.

You need to be careful when navigating this floor because there are monsters can can hit high damage regularly if you aren’t prepared. You can also have your Strength level temporarily lowered by the Catablepons. Although the Catablepons with lower your Strength, they drop Pure Essence which can be used to craft high level Runes. Since most of the floors are packed to the brim with monsters, there are very few places other than between the doors that you can be safe from attack.

There are very few straight walls on this floor due to the fact that everything is supposed to be Oozing and slimy. This gives it a more natural feel and makes it feel like it wasn’t necessarily man-made.

In the center of the floor you can find the ‘Box of Health’. The first time you search it you will receive 5000 gp and the ‘Idea’ emote.

Floor 4 - The Sepulchre of Death

Since the theme of this floor is death, everything is supposed to be dark and scary, but don’t be too worried, since there isn’t anything too bad. On this floor you don’t appear in one of the corners, but in the center of the east side, with the portal to get the the reward room right beside the east wall.

This floor is by far the most dangerous for low levels because of the large number of high level monsters packed close together in the rooms. There are plenty of corridors without any monsters in, but where there are monsters you need to be careful because some of them are level 86! If you have a Slayer task to kill Skeletons and you are a high level then this floor is a good place to do it because of the high density of monsters, and even a room with Skeletons on their own.

The reward room on this floor only has one entrance into it, so you must go through a room filled with Ghosts and Ankou to get there. These monsters are all high level, but if you time your run correctly then you will only get hit once.

You can get your reward on this floor from the ‘Cradle of Life’. The first time you search it you will receive the ‘Stamp’ emote and a choice between either ‘Fancy Boots’ or ‘Fighting Boots’.

From the reward room on this floor there is only one way to get out other than the way you came in. This is up the Bone Chain, which will take you to the entrance of the dungeon.

——————————————————————————–

Special Features

There are several things that you can do in this dungeon that cannot be done elsewhere in RuneScape.

Barbarian Village Teleport

By killing certain monsters in the dungeon you may be lucky enough to get some special drops that when combined with drops off other monsters will give you a staff that lets you teleport to Barbarian Village.

You need to kill one kind of monster on each floor to get the required drops to make this staff, so if you can’t kill numerous level 75 monsters, you won’t be able to get this staff. The monsters aren’t required to drop their certain piece on the first drop, so you will have to kill more than one of each monster.

On Floor 1 you need to kill Minotaurs to get the Right Skull Half.

On Floor 2 you need to kill Flesh Crawlers to get the Bottom of Sceptre.

On Floor 3 you need to kill Catablepons to get the Top of Sceptre.

On Floor 4 you need to kill Ankous to get the Left Skull Half.

Use the two skull halves together to get a Strange Skull.

Use the two sceptre pieces together to get a Runed Sceptre.

Use the Strange Skull with the Runed Sceptre to get a Skull Sceptre.

On the Sceptre if you chose the ‘Invoke’ option you will teleport to the center of Barbarian Village. If you chose the ‘Divine’ option you will find out how many charges the Sceptre has left. When you originally make it there will be 5 teleports left, but each time you teleport the number will decrease by 1.

——————————————————————————–

Inhabitants

There are a lot of different monsters in this dungeon. Some can be found in other places, but there are some which can only be found within this dungeon.

Rat

These monsters are level 1 and can be found all around the top two floors of the dungeon. They don’t show up on the mini-map, so therefore are more difficult to locate.

Goblin

These monsters come in several different forms. The levels they can be are 5, 11, 13, 16 and 25. Each version can be identified because it looks slightly different to those of other levels. These can only be found on Floor 1. They won’t auto-attack you, whatever combat level you are.

Minotaur

These monsters all look the same, whatever level they are. They can be level 12 or 27, and the only place you can find then in RuneScape is the top floor of this dungeon. These are what you need to kill to get the Right Skull Half. Wherever you find these in the dungeon, the chances are there will be Bones on the floor because of people not picking them up. They won’t auto-attack you, whatever combat level you are.

Wolf

These are level 11 and can be found on Floor 1 in the dungeon. They won’t auto-attack you, whatever combat level you are.

Zombie

These monsters can be level 30, 44 or 53 and can be found on Floor 2 in the dungeon.

Flesh Crawler

These monsters can be level 28, 35 or 41 and take pride in auto-attacking anybody in sight. They regularly drop Herbs and are killed to get the Bottom of Sceptre. They can be found on Floor 2 of this dungeon, but nowhere outside it.

Giant Rat

These monsters are level 26 and can be found on Floor 2 of the dungeon.

Spider

These are level 24 and live in close density on Floor 3 of the dungeon.

Giant Spider

These are level 50 and can be found on Floor 3. Because of their location, it seems like they are the reason that all the level 24 Spiders flood the floor and make it challenging to pass.

Catablepon

These come in three forms. One is level 49, the next is level 64, and the final is level 68. They can be found on Floor 3 of the dungeon, and nowhere else in RuneScape, so kill them here or you’re missing out on something magical. Yes, something very magical indeed. These monsters will reduce your Strength level using a magic spell, so make sure your Magic Defense is high to make them keep failing their magic, and not touch you with Melee. These are what you need to kill to get the Top of Sceptre.

Scorpion

These monsters are level 59 and can be found on the east side of Floor 3 of the dungeon. Luckily they aren’t the type that deal Poison, so Anti-Poison Potions aren’t required.

Ghost

These come in levels very similar to each other, level 76 and 77. They can be found on Floor 4 of the dungeon, and have the possibility to be good to kill for those annoying tasks of Ghosts from your Slayer master.

Skeleton

At level 60, 68 and 85 these aren’t the most friendly of enemies, but if you want a Skeleton to kill that isn’t an extremely low level, and you can’t get into other dungeons with high level Skeletons in because you haven’t completed the required quests, then this is a good place to kill them. They can be found on Floor 4 of the dungeon.

Ankou

These are the highest level monsters in the dungeon at level 75, 82 or 86, depending on which spawn you chose to kill. They can be found on Floor 4 of this dungeon, but nowhere else in RuneScape. These are what you need to kill to get the Left Skull Half.

Rule 1: Offensive Language

What is offensive language? It is a form of language which others find insulting or obscene. The reason that there is this rule is to maintain a friendly community within Runescape. It is important to have such a rule, as it protects the players from insults from others, especially when the insult is inappropriate for a particular age of players.

Here is a list of scenarios that is considered to be under Offensive Language Category:

Swearing, flaming another player (by bypassing the censor)
Heavy flooding of the chat window with unnecessary or gibberish messages
Harassing a player with sexual remarks
Racist messages
Threatening messages (such as threatening to hack or scam an innocent player)
Offensive names
Any other inappropriate messages
So if you see anyone doing that, report them under the above rule.

FAQs

Someone called me a noob! Is that offensive language?

Nope, as what the rules stated, “noob” is not an offensive word. If you are annoyed because the player called you a noob, it’s best to add the player to ignore rather than confronting him.

There are two players who are swearing at each other! What should I do?

In a case where both players are being extremely vulgar, you should report them both under rule 1. But if you know who was the starter of the flame war, you should only report the starter. Then add both of them to ignore and move on. It is best not to say “Reported” as it can worsen the situation and cause the players to flame at you instead.

There could be another scenario, where the two players are friends. They might just be joking among themselves with vulgar language. In such a case, you do not have to worry, as long as they are not affecting players around them. But if you find that their remarks are leading to a flame war, you should report them under rule 1. Before reporting, it is best to advise the two players to talk to each other in private chat, and only report when they refuse to.

A player is swearing but it is censored, should I count it as offensive?

Since it’s censored, the filter has done its job and the language is no longer offensive – which means no report. Just move on and ignore the player. Only report when the player bypasses the censor to swear.

A player said “****, I died again!! Wat the hell! Stupid ****ing randoms!!”, what should I do?

In such a case, it is not offensive as the player is just letting out his frustrations. Even though the language may not be appropriate, but as long as he isn’t directing it at anyone, you should just let him be. If you don’t want to hear it from him, add him to ignore instead.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 2: Item Scamming

What is item scamming? It is to deceive another player and cause them to lose their valuables as a result. This rule is extremely important, and protects players from losing their hard earned valuables.

Here is a list of scenarios that is considered to be under Item Scamming Category:

Offering an item and then changing it at the last second (or item switching)
Offering to trim an item or upgrade an item
Claiming an unrare item rare
Trust games (or truth game), test or trades
Offering to duplicate an item
Claiming to be from Jagex and asks for an item
Team scamming
Luring players into the wilderness under pretence
If anyone is doing the above, it is best to report them for the above rule.

FAQs

A player just said “Follow to win 1mill!!!”, what should I do?

These instances usually turn out to be trust tests or games, so it is most likely an item scam. You may follow the player, and if the player plays the “trust game”, you should report the player under rule 2.

A player claimed to hold a drop party, but he didn’t drop anything! Is that an item scam?

Nope, since he didn’t cause any players to lose any items, it is not an item scam.

A player is seen selling a weird item for 50k, and another player is buying it for 1000k. What should I do?

This is probably a team scam. You should report both players to Jagex for item scamming.

A player is seen selling a weird item for 50k, is there anything I should do?

A player can ask any price they like so long as they don’t lie about it. Remember, you can check the Forums or a fan site to make sure you don’t pay too much for an item.

A player lured me into the wilderness, is that item scamming?

Due to the update of rule 2, luring players into the wilderness by pretending they are not *is* reportable. However, you must be sure that the player is indeed “tricking” you without you knowing.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 3: Password Scamming

What is password scamming? It is a scam whereby players are tricked or persuaded into giving away their passwords of their accounts. This rule is crucial for making sure that each and every account is secure.

Here is a list of scenarios that is considered under password scamming:

Claiming that Jagex blocks passwords (they don’t block passwords)
Selling free membership (the scammer will ultimately ask for your password)
Claiming to be from Jagex and asks for password
Asking for Bank PINs
Asking questions related to your recovery questions (when you give them the answers, you are risking your account)
If you find anyone doing the above, report them for the above rule.

FAQs

A player keeps saying the word “pass”, is it considered password scamming?

Nope, it is not. There is no evidence that the player is asking for anyone’s password, so it is not considered password scamming.

A group of players are discussing about password, what should I do?

They are not breaking rule 3 by discussing passwords, as they are not trying to steal anyone’s password.

There is a player, who is saying, “Buying free membership”, what should I do?

Even though it is not considered password scamming, it *is* against the rules of conduct. Report that player under “Encouraging others to break rules” instead.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 4: Cheating/Bug Abuse

What is bug abuse? It is when a player uses an error in game to gain unfair advantage. This rule ensures that the game is fair for all players, so if you find any bugs in game, please send a bug report to Jagex by clicking on “report a bug/fault” on main page. Please do not tell anyone about the bug and not use it again until Jagex has fixed it.

As it is hard to gather evidence of bug abuse in game, the only time you can know is when a player *admits* to bug abuse. If you see anyone admitting to bug abuse, send a query to Jagex, informing them of the details.

FAQs

A player is harassing me in game, is that bug abuse?

No, it is not. If anyone is harassing you in game, add them to ignore. If the player is using extremely vulgar and offensive language, report them under rule 1.

A player is telling everyone about a bug and asking them to try it! What should I do?

In such a case, it is best to report him under “encouraging others to break rules”, since the player is encouraging others to do something against the rules.

A player is discussing a bug, is that bug abuse?

Nope, discussing a bug is not against the rules, as long as the player is not using it or encouraging others to use it.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 5: Jagex Staff Impersonation

What is Jagex Staff Impersonation? It is when a player impersonates a Jagex Staff when they are not. All Jagex Staff have a gold crown when they talk in game, so you should know if the player is a staff member or not. This rule is important as it prevents them from being tricked by players who attempts to scam them by impersonating a staff.

Here are some scenarios where it is considered to be under Jagex Staff Impersonation:

Claiming to be Jagex and asks for your items or password (report under either item scamming or password scamming)
Player’s name impersonating a Jagex Staff
Claiming to be a player moderator when they are not
Claiming to be Jagex to gain trust from a player
If anyone is doing the above, you should report them under rule 5.

FAQs

A player says that his main is a player moderator, is that staff impersonation?

Yes, even if his main is a player moderator, it is impersonation when he says that his main is a moderator on his other accounts.

A player private messages me saying that he works for Jagex and offers to make me a moderator, do you think I should believe him?

Nope, remember that Jagex Staff will only invite you to be a moderator through *online message centre*. Also, Jagex Staff has a gold crown when they speak in game (even in Private Messages), so if the player does not have the crown, report him under rule 5.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 6: Account Sharing/Trading

What is account sharing or trading? It is when a player shares an account with another player, or when a player sells an account in game. This rule is there to protect each and every account and to make sure that no player is encouraging other players to trade or share accounts.

If you see anyone admitting to sharing/trading accounts in game, report them under this rule. Anyone who offers to give away their accounts for free or sells their account should also be reported under this rule.

FAQs

Is sharing an account with a close friend or family member allowed?

No, account sharing with anyone is not allowed, even if it was with someone you trust.

A player is saying “Selling membership account for 300k”, is that considered pass scamming?

No, since the player mentioned “account”, most likely the player is selling the account, not the membership. Report the player under rule 6 instead.

I see a player selling an account on another site, what should I do?

You should report the site to Jagex through a query. In your query, include the link to that site so that Jagex can investigate the issue.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 7: Using Third Party Software/Macroing

What is macroing? Macroing is the use of third party software that gives players an unfair advantage over other honest players. It is important that this rule is present as it discourages players from using third party software, which often contain keyloggers that steal their account passwords.

Here are some scenarios where it is considered macroing:

Auto programs that helps you in training your skills
Auto programs that speed up typing
Programs that modify or replace Runescape client
Programs that displays pages from Runescape website and provides specific features like worldswitching
If you see anyone using the above programs, report them under this rule.

FAQs

There are just so many macroers! Does Jagex even care about them?

Yes, Jagex does deal with them. Jagex has conducted mass banning of macroers before, if you have read the news archive. Just because they are not posting such news again does not mean they are not banning them anymore. It is just that they need time to look at the evidence properly before going on to take action against them.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 8: Multiple Log In

What is multiple log in? It is when a player logs onto multiple accounts at the same time, and these characters interact with each other. This rule is there to ensure that the game is fair and that newly created accounts would not have an advantage over other players of the same combat level just because these new accounts have a main with more powerful weapons.

Here are some scenarios where it is considered multiple log in:

Transferring of items from one account to another account (when both accounts belong to one player)
Drop trading
Giving an item to a friend and then taking it back from another account
If you see anyone doing the above, report them under the above rule.

FAQs

I saw a group of macroers with similar names; I think they belong to the same player. What do I do?

The best thing to do is to report them all for macroing and send Jagex a query explaining the situation and whom you believe is the player in charge.

A player is promoting third party software and giving a link to it! What should I do?

In this case, report the player under rule 11. If you can, find a player moderator who would be able to deal with the situation better. You can also report the player under rule 9, as he is encouraging others to break the rules.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 9: Encouraging Others To Break Rules

What is encouraging others to break rules? It is to persuade another player into doing something against any of the 15 rules and telling them it is alright to do so. This rule is there to make sure that players are not confused about the rules and to remove those players who encourage others to ruin the game with them.

Here are some scenarios which are considered encouraging rule-breaking:

Lying about what a rule means and trying to convince others that the rule means otherwise
Encouraging others to use a bug in game
Trying to force a player into breaking a rule by temptation
Admits to using a third party software (reporting it under macroing would not work)
Admits to breaking the rules of conduct
If you see anyone doing the above, report them by all means under the above rule.

FAQs

A player said “Hehe, go and scam that noob, nah jk.”, do I consider it to be encouraging rule breaking?

It really depends on your judgment, if the player is joking about it, perhaps you can just let it go. However, if the player really caused others to break the rules, you should perhaps send a query to Jagex explaining the situation. Remember to include all the players that are involved in it. At the same time, report the rule-breaker (the player that went on to break the rules) under the correct rule. (Remember that you need evidence to report any rule-breaking)

A player floods the chat screen with messages like “I’m using an autotyper, it’s great! Try it!”, should I report the player under rule 9 or rule 1?

It would be better if you report the player under rule 9, since it is encouraging rule breaking. If possible, call a player moderator to help to deal with the situation. (Remember that not all player moderators are free to help, report the offence yourself and only call for them when the situation worsens)

——————————————————————————–

Rule 10: False Representation/Misuse Of Customer Support

What is misuse of customer support? It involves reporting an innocent player, sending in useless queries to Jagex, lying to Jagex about certain information and abusing Jagex Staff. This rule is important so that Jagex can process the reports and queries as fast as possible, and ensure that players who really need assistance receives the support they need.

Here are some scenarios where it is considered to be misuse of customer support:

Using abusive language towards Jagex in game
Admitting to misuse of customer support (this will not happen most of the times, so be sure that there is enough evidence before reporting)
Threatening to report innocent players
If you see anyone doing the above, report them under this rule.

FAQs

A player says that he is going to report a player who called him a noob. Should I report him for misuse of customer support?

Not all players have read the knowledge base, so they would not know that the word “noob” is not reportable. Perhaps you can tell him that it is not reportable, and ask him to add the player to ignore.

A player is saying “Report (player name)!! He is a scammer!”, is that misuse of customer support?

No, it is not. The player is just warning everyone about the “scammer”, so no harm is done. However, you should not listen to him and proceed to report the “scammer”. As you have no evidence that the “scammer” is really scamming, it would not be wise to report him. Perhaps you can ask the player to report the “scammer” himself, and proceed on.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 11: Advertising/Website

What is advertising websites? It includes advertising websites, and also advertising any other product (such as third party programs) in game. This rule is vital as it protects the account security of all the players, and make sure that no one is directed to a site with inappropriate content.

Here are some scenarios where it is considered to be advertising websites:

Advertising a site that offers cheats and other forms of in game benefits
Advertising a site that has third party software
Asking players to go on a site to buy or sell accounts (also under encouraging rule breaking)
Admitting to advertising a site in the official forums
Advertising any other sites that are not related to Runescape
Trading other game accounts in Runescape
Advertising URL link related to messenger software
Advertising chat channels
For this rule, as long as a URL link is involved, you can report almost every instance that happens.

FAQs

A player is mentioning a fan site and directing a player to it, what should I do?

Unless a URL is mentioned, you should not report. Most official fansites are safe, so it is alright if players direct others to these help sites without mentioning a URL. However, if you are unsure about the safety of that fansite, you can proceed to report the player.

A player advertised his site on the official forums, what should I do?

In such a case, it would be best to report the thread that was breaking the rules in the “Forum Emergencies” sticky located in General Forum. Remember to read the instructions there carefully before proceeding to report.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 12: Real World Item Trading

What is real world item trading? It is the trading of items in Runescape for real world money. This rule is there to prevent players from trading accounts for the skills and items instead of earning them through game play. It is also unsafe, as many of these people may attempt to steal your money.

You will seldom be able to see it in game, but if you do see anyone doing it in game, it would be best to send in a report under this rule.

FAQs

I see a player selling an item on another site for real world money, what should I do?

You should report the site to Jagex through a query. In your query, include the link to that site so that Jagex can investigate the issue. Here is the format of the query:

A user by the name of [insert username here] was advertising a site which violated rule 12. The site advertised was [insert site name here].

Sincerely,
[your RuneScape name]
A player said, “I bought an account from ebay a week ago.” What do I do?

You can report the player under “encouraging rule breaking”.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 13: Personal Details

What is against the rule on personal details? It is to ask for or give out a person’s personal information which can be used to track down the person in real life. This rule is vital in protecting each and every one’s privacy and safety in real life.

Here are some scenarios considered to be asking for personal details:

Asking or giving out a player’s full name, telephone number, home address
Asking for or giving out player’s email address and messenger screen names
Revealing personal details in game or on the forums
If anyone is seen doing that, you can report under this rule.

FAQs

A player is asking for the age of another player, is that considered asking for personal details?

Nope, age is not personal details, reason being that there are lots of people who have the same age as you. It is impossible to track down a person in real life just by knowing the age.

Is asking for a person’s country considered asking personal details?

Nope, it is not. Often when players chat, they will ask for each other’s nationality. It is alright to do that, as it’s impossible to track down a person in real life with the above information.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 14: Misuse Of Official Forums

What is misuse of official forums? It is to post something that is against the code of conduct of the forums. This rule is necessary to maintain a friendly environment on the forums, as well as safeguard the players who use the official forums.

You will rarely come across any situations relating to this rule in game, but if you do come across it on the forums, report it in the “Forum Emergencies” thread located in the General Forum.

——————————————————————————–

Rule 15: Advert Blocking

What is advert blocking? It is when players attempt to block the advertisements on Runescape with advert-blocking software. This rule is essential for the free to play players to enjoy the free version of Runescape.

There is hardly any instances relating to this rule in game, if a player admits to breaking this rule in game, you can then report them.

FAQs

One of the advertisements is offensive, what should I do?

If you find any advertisements inappropriate, report them by clicking on “Comment on our service” on main page. Fill in the information in the advert complaint form and send it to Jagex. Jagex will reply back to you as soon as possible.

Note: Joking about any of the rules is equivalent to breaking them.

We just keep getting bigger

 We just keep getting bigger

If there was an eerie quietness to Runescape this morning, it’s because Jagex has just moved offices! Up and till this point Andrew had being squeezing more and more personnel into the same cramped room, but even he relented when the place started to look like a Seers’ Village drop party.
So rather than violate any more human rights conventions, we thought we’d better just move office. As of today, Jagex is officially moving up in the world… by about 12 feet in fact, to the place on the first floor.

This means that we now have one office for the development team, and another one dedicated to your customer support needs. In fact, we’re about to take on more customer support staff to make us even more efficient!

Of course you can never please everyone. Having two offices means that Simon won’t be able to annoy Andrew anymore, and Tytn will have now have TWO kitchens to clean.

But Paul E (i.e. me) has got a desk that finally suits his feng shui requirements, and Andrew has a special “I’m the boss round here” annex all to himself! So if you do see him online a lot, it might be because he’s feeling a bit lonely… just offer him a blanket and a warm drink- we’d all be very grateful.

 San-Francisco servers online

The RuneScape worlds were getting rather full again so we’ve put some more online. As previously promised the servers are on the west coast of the US this time. We’ve added 3 free servers, and 1 new members server.

Faster server

Faster server

The RuneScape database is now running from a faster server so everything should be a lot more reliable now. I have also adjusted the network settings of the New-York servers, so hopefully they are a lot less laggy now. If you live in the US then you should try them out again.
