Edgeville Dungeon

Posted by runescape

This dungeon has a large number of monsters in it and, if you are a member, the Combat level of these monsters can go up to 172! Please ensure that you are prepared or only bring items you are willing to lose. Please also be aware that the northernmost section of this dungeon is classed as Wilderness, so you will find that other players can attack you.

Introduction

Fighting Black Demons inside Edgeville Dungeon

Beneath the dangerous town of Edgeville, where monsters lurk on the brink of the Wilderness, lies a dungeon which poses as much threat as the Wilderness itself.

In the darkness of Edgeville dungeon you will encounter all sorts of monsters from spiders to hill giants. If you are a member, you can venture further still into the Wilderness dungeon…

Location

Location of Edgeville Dungeon

Edgeville dungeon is, unsurprisingly, beneath the town of Edgeville. It’s also located quite near to Varrock allowing people a short walk to Edgeville.

Points of Interest

Interesting areas of the Edgeville Dungeon

As you can see from the to the left, the dungeon is split into two sections.

The gate, marked on the map, is the division between the members and non-members areas in Edgeville dungeon. Everything north of this gate is members only and classified as Wilderness, so beware of PKers.

Members can go into this northern area to find a plentiful supply of chaos druids for herbs, or skeletons and black demons for a tougher battle.

Over the Agility monkey bars are earth warriors, which are a good enemy to train your melee skills against.

If you get a brass key (found in the dungeon, near the entrance from Edgeville), you can use this to unlock the door found west of the Cooking guild. This provides quicker access to the hill giant area.

Chronozon guards the Earth Obelisk used in making earth battlestaves. Opposite this, on the north side of the dungeon and past the black demons, is a ladder to the Air Obelisk, should you wish to craft air battlestaves instead.

Personalities

Chronozon

Chronozon the blood demon is a unique demon who defeated Johnathon, and stole his piece of the family crest. Chronozon is no easy demon to defeat – killing him will be a blast!

Chronozon is found in the area with the Earth Obelisk, west of the chaos druids in the Wilderness Dungeon.

Quests

There are no quest start points in Edgeville.

Monsters of the Sewers

Giant Rat (Level 3)

Just like giant spiders and goblins, giant rats are a common sight. They are slightly tougher than goblins and giant spiders, but this still doesn’t say much.

  Thug (Level 10)

Thugs are just that. Thugs. They like to cause trouble and can be found lurking in the entrance area to the members Wilderness, waiting to give you a welcoming punch.

Giant rats can be found in the entrance area of Edgeville dungeon.
Chaos Druid (Level 13)

Chaos druids combine Magic with melee if they are under attack. While the Magic they use on you may not be damaging as such, you may find some of your combat related stats get lowered if spells actually hit you. Chaos druids tend to drop grimy herbs, which can be very useful.

  Skeleton (Level 21/22/25)

Skeletons may look harmless and weak, but their lack of muscle is more than made up for by the potent magic that holds them together. If you choose to fight skeletons, you may notice the skeleton’s bones will give way when crushing attacks are used.

Chaos druids are found by going west of the thugs in the members’ Wilderness Dungeon.   Skeletons are found just north of the entrance area.
Zombie (Level 24)

Zombies are usually found in the dark, damp areas of the RuneScape world, so it is not surprising that a few wander the damp area on the east side.

  Hobgoblin (level 28)

Hobgoblins are found in most areas of RuneScape and they are basically a tougher version of goblins, generally using spears to attack.

Zombies in the eastern area of Edgeville dungeon.   There are a few hobgoblins in Edgeville dungeon, usually grouping in the south-east of the dungeon, where the brass key (shortcut) door is.
Hill Giant (Level 28)

Hill giants are commonly seen in the dungeons of RuneScape, and this includes Edgeville Dungeon, where a few have wandered into the final section. They are quite strong, and will put up a good fight against unprepared warriors.

  Deadly Red Spider (Level 34)

Tougher than the giant spiders by far, deadly red spiders haven’t earned their name letting adventurers walk by: they will give you a tough fight if you are unprepared.

Deadly red spiders can be found north of the thugs in the members’ Wilderness Dungeon.
Earth Warrior (Level 51)

Earth warriors are warriors of the earth! They tend to stick together, so if you are venturing into the members’ Wilderness Dungeon and swing across the monkeybars, don’t be surpised if a group of earth warriors come to ‘greet’ you.

  Black Demon (Level 172)

Black demons are vast and powerful demons. Towering over adventurers and most other monsters, they stalk the lower reaches of RuneScape, hoping for a tasty meal.

Black demons can be found in the north-western area of the dungeon.

Inside Saradomin’s Encampment Down where the icy river wends and falls is the Saradomin Encampment; two tiers of land that house those with fealty to Saradomin. Although pious and devout, the followers that reside here are fearsome foes, if one should choose to face them without a symbol of Saradomin’s glory.

Saradomin has chosen an icyene, a member of the race that tempered the godsword, to recover the very item they helped to make.

Points of Interest

An overview of Saradomin’s Encampment

To access Saradomin’s Encampment you will need two lengths of rope and 70 Agility.

Saradomin has balanced his forces admirably, covering all three corners of the combat triangle and leaving little room for weakness. It can only be advised that any encroachers should be prepared for Melee, Ranged and Magic attacks.

You will need to kill at least forty of Saradomin’s followers to gain entrance to Commander Zilyana’s headquarters.

Personalities

Commander Zilyana

Zilyana goes under many names and titles, but her favourite is that of Keeper of the Faith, a charge bestowed on her by Saradomin himself. Taking this role very seriously indeed, Zilyana is most adept at defending it with her sword. Tempered by her own tears, her sword flashes between ribs and across sides with supernatural speed, delivering divine justice with a sharpened tip.

Starlight
Bane of darkness
Starlight is often seen ploughing through ranks of Zamorak’s forces with her head down and her horn aimed for enemies’ vitals. In her wake would lie the broken and the gored, cursing the name of the bane of darkness.
  Growler
Defender of the faithful
Hulking ward of Saradomin’s monasteries, Growler is a pacifist in all but the most extreme circumstances. When forces threaten Saradomin, however, Growler’s ginger haunches raise and the teeth bare.
  Bree
Champion of truth
Messenger and confidant, Bree has a calm head and four solid hooves on the ground. Called upon in situations where things are dire, Bree has the uncanny ability to raise morale and confidence throughout the ranks.

Quests

There are no quest starts in Saradomin’s Encampment.

Saradomin’s Army

Knight of Saradomin (Level 101, 103)

Warriors who have passed various initiations, fasts and temptations, these knights are an order of very few, but fight with the strength of many. They all rigorously abide by their oath of servitude to Saradomin.

  Saradomin Priest (Level 113)

The priests down here may seem antiquated to those who have encountered Saradomin’s priests or monks on the surface. Their black attire has long been outmoded, but who wants to tell this fearsome fighter that?

Spiritual Mage (Level 120)

The priests and mages of Saradomin’s entourage have called upon the spirits of the most venerable and faithful wizards to serve Saradomin once more. Willingly, they throw their very souls into the battle to defend his glory.

  Spiritual Ranger (Level 122)

The spiritual ranger may have lost a body, but they show a keen eye and fine arm for archery. Devoted beyond the grave, the spiritual ranger will return as many times as is necessary to recover the godsword.

Spiritual Warrior (Level 125)

Imprinted with the star of Saradomin, the armour of Saradomin has been filled with many souls, and has the chinks of many battles. It will see many more, as the battle rages on with little sign of finish.

Miscellaneous

  • If you are extraordinarily lucky, you may find that Commander Zilyana or her bodyguards drop shards of the godsword. The hilt that Saradomin’s priests designed for that blade is only dropped by Commander Zilyana.
  • The warriors of Saradomin will be less inclined to attack you if you are wearing some symbol of Saradomin’s light.

Pest Control

Posted by runescape

The Void Knights are devoted to keeping the balance that exists on Gielinor as decreed by Guthix. In the past this meant little more than the odd assassination, but times are changing. Recently, creatures from another realm have begun breaking through into this one, although these incursions have so far been limited to small islands to the far south of RuneScape.

Outposts were constructed near the regular breaches to house the Void Knights whose magic was used to close the portals. Unfortunately, the invaders have become more aggressive and have managed to overrun some outposts before the ritual could be completed. Can someone help the Void Knights’ effort and fight back against the creatures?

Location

Where to start

The journey starts in Port Sarim.

Find the boat highlighted to the left, just south of the Lady Lumbridge, and speak with the Squire. She will explain that there is a situation developing and will ask if you want to go to the Void Knights’ Outpost.

If you say yes, you will sail the long journey to the outpost south of Ape Atoll.

Once there, you will find yourself standing on the north dock of the outpost mapped below.

Void Knight Outpost map

Welcome to the Void Knights’ Outpost!

There are a few shops to explore here as well as a bank.

The archery store sells Ranged weapons such as javelins, as well as providing arrowheads up to rune.

The character in the smithy will fix broken tools and Barrows armour, similar to the services provided by other NPCs such as Bob in Lumbridge.

The Magic shop sells runes for a very fair price, all to help your efforts in holding the creatures back.

Requirements

Pest Control has three different difficulty levels.

  • To enter the novice lander, you must have a combat level of at least 40.
  • To enter the intermediate lander, you must have a combat level of at least 70.
  • To enter the veteran lander, you must have a combat level of at least 100.

Recommended Items

As you will be attacking and defending against a veritable horde of creatures, good armour is highly recommended. If you are going as a mage, you will need runes for your chosen spells. If you are going as a ranger, you will need your preferred ammunition. Please note that any runes used or ammunition lost will not be returned.

Good food is recommended if you wish to stay out fighting. If you die, however, you will respawn in the area without loss of items, so you can simply run back into the action.

A hammer and hatchet is recommended as you may (and probably will!) lose your built-in defences (walls and gates). You will need a hatchet to collect logs, and a hammer to repair the damaged gate/fence.

Please note: cannons are not allowed on the island.

Holding back the Hordes

Portal locations

When you decide you want to join the efforts of the Void Knights, cross the gangplank to board the lander. The lander will leave after five minutes if five or more people are in the lander, or automatically when the lander is full (twenty-five people).

When you arrive on the island then the battle has begun! The aim of the game is to defend the Void Knight, and not let him die to claim your reward. The number of creatures in the game is dependent on the number of people in the game, as well as the difficulty level (novice, intermediate or veteran). The bigger the group, the more creatures will come through the portals.

There are 4 portals on the island (as shown in the map). These portals produce the creatures shown in the next section. Each creature has a specific ability or purpose to the activity, so attack and defend well.

Each of the portals is protected by a magical field, however, and you will not be able to attack any portal until the void knight has been able to break down its defences. For this reason, you should do your utmost to keep the knight alive until all of the portals can be attacked. In the interface to the left, for instance, the blue portal has no shield any more and can be attacked, but the other three are still immune.

You will be informed in your chat box when the knight has broken down one of the magical fields, as well as being able to check it in the interface at the top of your screen.

The game will end when the Void Knight has been defended for twenty minutes, or all the portals have been destroyed (see rest of guide/rewards for the effects of this).

The Pests

The pests’ combat levels vary between the different levels of the game. If you have joined the novice lander, for instance, the creatures will be much weaker than those faced by people who have joined the veteran lander.

Note: You get less combat experience from fighting pests than you would fighting monsters elsewhere in RuneScape. This is because you can trade your Commendations in for even more experience.

Brawler
Brawlers are large monsters, varying in combat level and colouring. Generally, these lumbering beasts will defend the portals and not stray too close to the fort. Beware, however, as they will try to crush anyone who gets in their way! Brawlers will block you from moving past, so you will have to move around them.
  Defiler
Defilers are agile and quick, again varying in combat level and colouring. They throw large barbs over great distances, and have the ability to attack you (or the Void Knight) from far away, inflicting significant damage.

Ravager
Ravagers are small humanoids with mole-like claws. Ravagers will have no problem tearing down and through defences with their claws. If you are to defend well, it is important to kill these before you lose your gates!
  Shifter
Shifters are dangerous melee fighters with large spines on their backs. They have different combat levels and colouring, and watch out: these creatures can create small portals for themselves to teleport short distances. They can even teleport past walls and up levels!

Spinner
Spinners appear to float above the ground and use spider-like legs to repair the portals. They will not stray into battle to attack the Void Knight, but must be killed before they repair any portals. When a portal is destroyed any spinners nearby will explode, damaging and poisoning any players standing too close.
  Splatter
Splatters look like a large ball of pulsing fluid with one eye in the middle. They should not be underestimated at all. Splatters are dangerous, as they will happily bounce towards your fort and explode! This inflicts damage to nearby objects and players.
Torcher
Torchers are again varied in colour and combat level. These are winged creatures that fly towards the Knight to attack. Like the defilers, torchers will use long-distance attacks, but these consist of magical fire.

Attacking

Planning an assault

If you are attacking, you will need to negotiate your way around the creatures as they try to attack you or the Void Knight. You should also concern yourself with finding an unprotected portal. Portals that still have a barrier will be impervious to harm, so be sure to check which portals are undefended.

If you are attacking, your aim is to get to the portals and destroy them. Your efforts will be hindered by those creatures near the portals, such as the brawlers. Your biggest concern should be with any spinners near the portal (see the table above for spinner image) as they will heal it fast; so ensure you make attacking these your highest priority.

For mages and rangers, there are strong offensive positions to be found in the towers. You can stand in the tower and cast spells or shoot arrows from above, while remaining relatively safe and distracting attention from the Void Knight.

As shown in the image above, your enemy in the towers are the shifters. They have the ability to open portals and pass into a nearby area. This includes short-distance teleporting from the ground to the tower!

Attacking is beneficial for the defenders, as the Void Knight will be healed 500 life points for every portal destroyed.

Defending

Sitting behind walls is well and good; but walls will not protect the Void Knight – only you and your team can do that.

Your main concern with defending the Void Knight will be with defilers, torchers and shifters. Defilers and torchers are dangerous as they use VERY long distance Magic and Ranged attacks (see the creature section for attacks and more info).

You will need to send warriors out to kill these, or Mage and Range from distance/the towers. Shifters are dangerous as they can teleport right next to the Void Knight if they wish to attack him straight away!

Your final worry when defending will be with ravagers. Ravagers are dangerous to defenders as they can simply tear through those defences external to the base, and also smash doors down.

You will need to defend areas with broken gates to prevent creatures walking up to the Void Knight, or send someone with logs and a hammer to repair the gate.

Beware, if the ravagers are not killed then they will happily smash the gate down again as it is getting fixed!

Rewards

There are two ways you can win in this activity.

  1. Successfully defend the Void Knight for twenty minutes.
  2. Destroy all of the portals.

As long as the Void Knight survives, you have won and will receive Commendations for beating the game.

  • If you win a game from the novice lander, you will receive 2 Commendations
  • If you win a game from the intermediate lander, you will receive 3 Commendations
  • If you win a game from the veteran lander, you will receive 4 Commendations

Please note: If you do not deal more than 500 life points damage total (on any monsters or portals), you will not be awarded any Commendations. You can also add 50 to your ‘life point damage’ total by repairing broken barriers.

You will also be awarded a number of coins equal to ten times your combat level when you win a game of Pest Control.

You can have a maximum of 500 points. To cash your Commendations in, speak to or right-click a Void Knight found on and about the Outpost. The Void Knights will only offer training in skills that you have at level 25 or above.

Please note: Those who trade in 100 Commendations at a time will notice the Knights grant an extra 10% on top of the experience you buy! If you trade in 10 Commendations at a time you will receive a 1% bonus on any experience you buy. The Commendations you receive from the Conquest activity are the same as those you receive from Pest Control.

Void Knight Mace

~ The Void Knight deflector can only be obtained by those with 1250 ranks in the Void Knight Conquest minigame.

Void Knight Seals
The seals that mark a Void Knight are potent weapons against the chaotic disorder of the beasts that come through the portals. To unleash the power of the seal, right-click on it and select ‘Rub’ (or use the ‘Operate’ option if you are wearing it). The seal will inflict damage on nearby pests. Note that the seal has eight charges.

Getting the Varrock Armor in RuneScape is somewhat time consuming, especially if you want to get the Varrock 3 set. Yes, like some other RuneScape armor sets, there are three different levels of Varrock Armor. The steps outlined below list how to get the first level of Varrock Armor.

Completing the Varrock Achievement Diary
Complete the following requirements to finish the Varrock Achievement Diary. You can do some of these in any order, although you will need to complete step 1 to begin the diary quest.

1.) Speak to Rat Burgiss (south of Varrock), Reldo (Varrock Castle), or Vannaka (Edgeville dungeon). Ask any of them what the achievement diary is.
2.) Go to Thessalia in Varrock and ask her what different outfits your character can wear.

3.) Visit Aubury’s Rune Shop and have him teleport you to the essence mine.
4.) Mine iron ore south-east of Varrock
5.) Create a plank using the sawmill. You will need a plain set of logs and 100 gold.
6.) Visit the Stronghold of Security and go down to the second level.
7.) Leap the fence just to the west of Rat Burgiss.
8.) Go to the Lumber Yard and cut down a dying tree.
9.) Buy the Varrock Herald for 50 gold from Benny.
10.) Give a bone to any of the dogs in VArrock
11.) Create a bowl on the pottery wheel and fire it in the oven in the Barbarian Village (you must be in the village).
12.) Go to Edgeville Dungeon via the entrance located south of Edgeville.

13.) Speak to the Varrock estate agent and have him more your house portal. This will cost 5,000 gold and you must already own a house.
14.) Obtain 50 kudos and then talk to Haig Halen, the Varrock museum curator.
15.) Use an earth talisman or tiara to visit the Earth Altar.
16.) Visit Varrock’s church and offer Elsie a cup of tea. Listen to her story.
17.) Mine limestone near the Paterdomus temple east of Varrock.
18.) Go to the river located to the east of the Barbarian Village. Fish until you catch a trout.
19.) Go through the Varrock Sewers until you find a web and then slash it.
20.) Go to the highest point in the city of Varrock by going up to the Church’s third floor.
21.) Return to Rat Bugiss

Conclusion
That’s all it takes to get the Varrock Armor 1 set. If you lose it, just speak to Rat again and he will give you another set. The armor gives you better discounts from Varrock merchants, gives you the chance of mining two ores at once while mining, and gives you the chance of smelting two bars instead of one when smelting. Once you have the Varrock Armor 1, you can then begin the next list of tasks to get the Varrock Armor 2 and then Varrock Armor 3.

Raising your crafting level in RuneScape is very important if you want to make a good amount of gold in the game. This is because crafting allows you to make a number of different items that can both help you advance in the game and can be sold for money to other players. There are a number of different types of crafts in the game.

RuneScape Crafting

Pottery

Pottery is a good craft for beginners since it’s simple and rewards you with a good amount of experience. It’s also a good skill if you enjoy cooking since you can create items to hold your ingredients. To start learning pottery, you need clay from the West Varrock mine and a jug from a general store. Fill the jug with water and mix it with the clay to make soft clay. Now go to the Barbarian Village and find a pottery wheel. Use it and the pottery oven to make items like pots, pie dishes, bowls, plant pots, and pot lids.

RuneScape Pottery

Leather Working

If your character uses leather armor, you can take up leather working and make your own. While it requires a bit more of an investment than pottery, leather working can earn you a nice amount of gold.

To start leatherworking, you need cow hides from the cows near Lumbridge. You’ll then need to buy some needles and thread (each will allow you to make four leather items). Then head to the tanner in Al Kharid to make leather from the hides. Once you have that, you can create gloves, boots, cowls, vambraces, chaps, and body armor. Note that some leather armor can only be made by members.

Jewelry

Making jewelry is a bit more advanced than pottery and leatherworking, but it is also much more profitable. You can create gems, rings, necklaces, bracelets, and amulets via jewelry.

RuneScape Rimmington

To get started, you’ll need to visit the crafting shop in either Rimmington or Al Kharid to get some basic items. You’ll also need to make gold or silver bars. Once you’ve made these bars, you can melt them down and pour them into moulds to make items.

You can also purchase a chisel and cut gemstones to add to your jewelry. After you’ve created an item using the furnace, you’ll have the option to add gems. This makes the item more powerful (and valuable). Before you can add a gem to an item, you’ve got to cut it. Available gems include opals, sapphire, emeralds, and rubies.

Weaving

Weaving allows members to create different containers to carry around their produce. To create items, simply use the loom located at Sarah’s Farming Shop. You’ll need wool to make strips of cloth, jute fibers to create vegetable sacks, and willow branches to make fruit baskets.

Glassmaking

Glassmaking is a good way to increase your experience early in the game since all the ingredients are on the island. You’ll need seaweed, a bucket of sand, and a glassblowing pipe. Buy a bucket from the general store so you can collect sand. Then go to Entrana and search the shores for seaweed (or go fish in Catherby with a big net).

RuneScape Glassmaking

Once on Etrana, you’ll find your glassblowing pipe in one of the houses in the north. You can then use the stove in this house to produce soda ash from seaweed. Then use the bucket of sand at the furnace to make molten glass. Once you’ve got these two items, you can use the pipe to make different things like lamps, vials, and orbs.

In RuneScape, pure essence is a rune essence that can be mined by member players. The reason pure essence is often in demand is because it can be used to make any type of rune available, giving players a lot of flexibility when it comes to runescape crafting. However, to mine pure essence, a player has to have at least level 30 mining. While only members can mine it from the rune essence mines, it can be traded to players who only have a free account. Players will receive five mining experience points per each pure essence they mine.

Steps to Mining Pure Essence

How can you get started mining pure essence? Well, there are a few easy steps. First, as noted above, you must have a full membership to RuneScape because access to the rune essence mines is restricted to members. You also need to purchase a pickaxe so you can mine.

The first step is to get out there and mine until your character gets to at least level 30 mining. Otherwise, you won’t be able to mine pure essence.

The Runescape Mysteries Quest
Next, you need to do the Rune Mysteries quest. If you can’t teleport, this quest will take a bit of time. First, you have to go to Lumbridge Castle and get the air talisman from Duke Horacio. Take it to the Wizard’s Tower near Draynor Village and give it to Wizard Sedridor in the basement. He then gives you a research package to take to Aubury, who lives in Varrock.

Aubury will want you to take his notes back to Wizard Sedridor, so it’s back to Draynor Village. Return to the basement and hand him the notes. He will give you the air talisman again and teach you the runecrafting ability.

Return to Aubury
Now that you’ve completed the quest, you have to return to Aubury’s rune shop to start making runes. Aubury will teleport you to the icy caverns where you can mine pure essence. This is where your patience will be tested—you’ll spend a lot of time mining here, so get used to your surroundings. You’ll find the pattern goes like this:

» mine pure essences until your inventory is full
» use the portal to return to town
» dump all your pure essences into the bank
» return to the mine and get back to work!

What to Do with Pure Essences
If you do a lot of rune crafting, you’ll need many pure essences to fuel your crafting. Pure essence can create blood, cosmic, chaos, death, law, and nature runes, which standard essence cannot create.

However, if you’re looking to make some gold, pure essence goes for around 120 gold on the grand exchange. This is a great way to make some quick gold if you don’t mind investing some work.

Tips on Mining Pure Essences

One of the more powerful melee weapons in the world of RuneScape is Dharok’s greataxe. It is a part of the Dharok the Wretched’s set of equipment and requires both an attack and strength of 70 to use. When equipped, the greataxe provides the fifth highest strength bonus available in the game and the second highest crush bonus. On the downside, it is a very slow weapon with a speed similar to a two handed sword. This means your opponents are going to get in several hits for each one of yours. Its incredible attach power and crushing attacks, however, make up for this.

Note that Dharok’s Greataxe cannot be made via smithing. It, like all of the Dharok’s set, can only be won from the Barrow’s mini-game.

Requirements:
Must be a member
Must have Strength of 70
Must have an Attack power of 70

Bonuses:
Strength: +105
Crush: +95
Stab: -4
Magic: -4
Ranged: -1
Speed: fairly slow

Use in Conjunction with the Full Dharok’s Set

If equipped as a part of the full Dharok set, players may hit in the high 90s, and some have reported hitting for as much as 110 damage per swing. When wielded with the rest of the set, players also gain access to a special attack. As the player’s hit points decrease, the damage caused by Dharok’s Greataxe increases. When a player is at ten percent of their max health or lower, the weapon will actually do double damage—up to 112 damage points.

Note that when doing the White Guthix Sleeps quest, a character’s abilities will be increased to 255. While this would allow for Dharok’s Greataxe to hit for over 270 damage, the player’s hit points are automatically restored to 255 whenever they get damaged. This means that the player will never get down to ten percent of health, so the greataxe will never do this huge amount of damage.

Degrading

As with all weapons, Dharok’s Greataxe will degrade over time. It will eventually drop from 100 percent to 75 with use, then degrade farther. To repair it, you must visit the Tindel Merchant located in Port Khazard or go to Bob’s Axes in Lumbridge. The price to fix the greataxe will depend on how much it degraded. To repair it from zero will cost 100,000 gold.

Uses of Dharok’s Greataxe

Many woodcutters equip the axe along with the Woodcutting skill cape to both show off their high level woodcutting skill and to look similar to the Woodcutting Tutor character. Note, however, that the greataxe can’t actually be used to cut down trees.

Dharok’s Greataxe is also a favorite weapon for use when battling the TzHaar-Ket and the TzHaar-Xil in the city of TzHaar because of its high strength bonus.

Graphic Updates to the Greataxe

When Dharok’s Greataxe was first introduced to the game, the character held it over his/her shoulder. Then this was changed to holding it with both hands. Then the greataxe was changed back to being held over the shoulder. Due to changing the graphics several times, the weapon actually glitched for a time. During this time, it was held more like the Dragon Longsword.

Changing your stats in RuneScape is no easy feat, especially if you want to do it legally. There are various programs out there that will allow you to change your RuneScape stats as well, plus there are some services that will actively play your character for you.

The Best Way of Changing Your Stats
The best way of changing your character’s stats in the magical world of RuneScape is simply to play the game. As you defeat enemies and accomplish tasks, your character will gain experience and levels. This will naturally make your character more powerful and up his or her stats.

RuneScape is, when it’s all said and done, a game. By skipping over gaining levels and experience, you’re missing out on the key element of RuneScape. The main goal of the game isn’t getting to the highest level or maximum stats but to enjoy playing.

Using a Stat Adjustment Program
However, if you want to max out your stats without actually doing any of the work, you can download a RuneScape stat changer. Generally, you have to purchase these programs, and they’re usually a bit on the pricy side. Once you’ve downloaded them, they give you the ability to hack into the RuneScape server and change your character’s stats to whatever you want.

One very important thing to know about these programs is that many of them include viruses and other harmful things. You should run a virus scanner immediately after downloading the program to make certain there’s nothing harmful hidden in it. Even if the scan turns up negative, be very cautious when using illegal programs like stat changers.

Also note that the Jagex staff (the creators of RuneScape) do not approve of stat changers and will ban your account if they discover you using one.

Allowing Others to Play Your Character
Another way of getting your character’s stats up is to pay another person to play your account. Like the stat changing programs, you can find these services on various websites. However, note that you must give these other players your RuneScape user name and password. This gives them full access to your account, and you never know what they’re going to do. Some may actually level your character, but others may scam you.

Sometimes, these services will level your character to a certain level, while other times you can specify which stats you want increased. Either way, be certain that nothing bad has happened to your account, and immediately change your password after your character’s stats have been increased.

Again, using a stat changing service is just as illegal as using a stat changing program, and Jagex will ban your account if they discover that you’ve done this.

Don’t Risk It
As you can see, the two “easy” ways of gaining stats in RuneScape both carry huge risks. Stat changing programs can infect your computer with many harmful viruses, while hiring other people to play your character can result in your character’s gold and gear being stolen. Both also bring up the risk of having your account banned.

If you truly want to increase your character’s stats, simply play the game. It doesn’t cost you extra money, nor is there any risk to your computer or character.

A new year often brings with it a sense of change or new adventure. For some, this rebirth is a nice, friendly affair, involving a new haircut and a resolution or two. For others, it means complex nesting rituals and a fiery demise…or perhaps a new beginning? Could we be talking about the legendary phoenix?

Our first update of the year is actually one we have been talking about for a while – the new Summoning familiar you voted for during the Summer. Of course, we could have just produced a simple Summoning creature to follow you around and do the occasional funky trick, but we decided that a legendary creature such as the phoenix deserved the full treatment. So, it will have its own tutorial-style quest, in which you learn how to deal with the unusual nesting habits of the giant, fire-drenched beast, AND a repeatable challenge you can take on every day, should you wish.

Once you’ve helped the phoenix you’ll be able to summon a smaller phoenix familiar to help you in battle, just as you would with any other Summoning familiar. Not only will it be able to fight alongside you (dealing Magic damage), it will also have the ability to fire ashes at your opponents, temporarily blinding them and making it harder for them to attack. On top of this, the phoenix will be able to be reborn from the ashes, leaving nearby nasties scorched by the accompanying flames.

We will also be releasing the next of our Achievement Diaries this month – this time set in the peaceful Seers’ Village and its surrounding woods and castles. As always, the intention of the Achievement Diary is to introduce some of the hidden or ‘non-quest’ activities associated with an area, so expect to be learning all about coal carts, the Piety prayer, forgotten sorcerers, poisoned chalices, pet fish and bullseyes! Rewards include additional experience when cutting down maple trees, and a handy flax picker (similar to Bert, who collects buckets of sand for you after the Hand in the Sand quest).

Another of the changes prepared for January is a great suggestion from our forums – the ability to re-order your spell list. Now, don’t worry, this is totally optional (and the default will still be the ‘level order’ setting you’re currently used to), but you’ll be able to set up the list with the combat spells first, or the teleport spells first, etc. This is all managed via a handy series of buttons at the bottom of each of the three (normal, lunar and ancient) spellbooks. We’re making this change because we feel it could be useful, but if you think it could be even MORE useful, we’d like to know how - please let us know what you think.

Hopefully, you’ll have already read the Behind the Scenes 2009 newspost written by Mod Vince, the new Head of RuneScape. As he said, we intend to spend a lot of time this year reviewing older content, making it more useful and user-friendly, and ensuring that yesterday’s content is of the same standard as tomorrow’s. The changes we plan to make cover all aspects of the game - this month we’ll be increasing the length of the auto-logout timer from the current 90 seconds to about 5 minutes, and a ‘You are here’ arrow on the world map. We’re even looking back over our old word lists, to remove words accidentally starred-out in chat.

Last but not least, we’ll be bringing you a new players’ gallery and the letters from Postie Pete’s January postbag.

Evil Trees

Posted by amber

On the 25th February 2009, RuneScape received another Distraction and Diversion. This time, a Leprechaun needs your help. At first, he will ask you to help a sapling grow, which he did not know would become an Evil Tree. The aim of this Distraction and Diversion is simple. Nurture the tree. Chop the tree. Burn the tree. Do so successfully and you may get rewarded.

——————————————————————————–

Requirements
There are no requirements to participate in this Distraction and Diversion, however having high Farming, Woodcutting and Firemaking levels would be to your advantage. Here are the levels required to nurture, chop and burn each type of tree:

Level Requirements
Tree Type Farming Level to Nurture Woodcutting Level to Chop Firemaking Level to Burn
Normal 1 1 1
Oak 7 15 15
Willow 15 30 30
Maple 22 45 45
Yew 30 60 60
Magic 37 75 75
Elder* 42 85 85

Note: Elder Trees, when felled, will yield Yew, Magic, Teak or Mahogany logs.

Completion of this Tree Gnome Village Quest will make your task of finding Evil Trees much easier.

It is also recommended to have a Hatchet and Tinderbox at the ready, as well as four free inventory spaces for the rewards.

——————————————————————————–

Getting Started
To start, gather your Hatchet and Tinderbox. If you have not got any, don’t worry, a Leprechaun at the location can give you some for free.

The best way to locate an Evil Tree is to speak to a Spirit Tree (requires completion of the Tree Gnome Village Quest). If there is an Evil Tree growing in your world, the Spirit Tree will tell you one of two things:

•If it’s just a sapling, he will give you a clue to it’s location, for example, growing near Draynor he may say “Near a town of Willows”.
•If it’s fully grown, he will offer a free teleport there.
Once there, should you need any equipment, talk to the Leprechaun. He will happily supply you with either a Bronze Axe or Tinderbox.
——————————————————————————–

Growing
When you find a Sapling, you simply need to nurture it. This is incredibly simple, but will require a certain farming level, depending on the tree type. See the table above for more information.

To nurture a tree, simply click on it. You will receive Farming experience for doing so. You only need do this until it is fully grown and becomes… EVIL!

——————————————————————————–

Cutting and Burning
When a tree is fully grown, if you’re not already there, a Spirit Tree will now teleport you there. No matter how you get there, you should now be at the tree.

Cut the tree. If you don’t already have some, an axe and tinderbox can be obtained from the Leprechaun. Whilst cutting the tree, you may be thrown aside by some Evil Roots. Cut these. When the roots have been chopped down, you may receive some Kindling. Use these on the Evil Tree to light it. It is recommended you make a circle of flames all around the Evil Tree.

Now just cut away at the tree. To find out how much more is left to go, right click the tree and choose ‘Inspect’. It will tell you the type of tree and how much health it has left. On the Health screen, it may say how much of the reward you have earned. It is possible to earn 100%.

——————————————————————————–

Locations
There are 26 possible locations at which an Evil Tree can spawn. By using a clue from a Spirit Tree, you can narrow it down even more! Below is a list of all locations.

1.Draynor (near Willow trees)
2.Khazari Jungle
3.Next to the barrier to Lumbridge Swamp
4.Behind Seers’ Village bank (Near Willow trees)
5.North of Shilo Village
6.West of Falador
7.West of Oo’glog
8.North of Varrock palace, Wilderness ditch
9.Near Rift, east of Varrock
10.South of the Monastery, west of Edgeville
11.Near the Body Altar
12.West of Rellekka
13.North of Draynor Village near Draynor Manor
14.Seer’s Village by the Yew trees
15.Inside McGrubor’s wood
16.Close to the Ranging Guild
17.Duel Arena
18.North of Yanille South
19.Southwest of Gnome Stronghold
20.North of Legend’s Guild
21.South of the bank in Tree Gnome Stronghold
22.South side of Ape Atoll, near the entrance to Marim dungeon
23.Northwest of Fairy Ring BKP
24.Lletya near the magic trees
25.Mine south of Legends Guild
26.Brimhaven Dungeon

——————————————————————————–

Rewards
Of course, what would a good Distraction and Diversion be without good rewards? Well, depending on how much you contribute depends on the rewards you can receive. Obviously, the more you contribute to the tree, the significantly better your rewards can be.

To claim your reward, right click on a felled Evil Tree. You will receive a noted quantity of that specific log as well as three of the following:

•Coins
•Birds Nests
•Key Halves (Tooth and Loop)
•Clue Scroll (level 1)
•Tree Seeds
•Summoning Charms
•Other Useless Items
As well as these rewards, the Leprechaun will enhance you for a certain length of time to be able to automatically bank logs when you have a full inventory of them. It works for only Normal, Oak, Willow, Maple, Yew and Magic logs.
