Drop changes

This week we have removed the majority of boss- and minigame-only drops from the PvP and Bounty Worlds. Reading the forums, we noted that several people felt that dropping items like dragonfire shields, dragon full helms, Slayer-only items (like the abyssal whip) and barrows equipment was a bad move. The general feeling was that these drops not only made the original source less exciting, but also effectively increased the rate at which these objects came into the game, which had an adverse effect on the economy. We agreed! As such, we have made the following changes:

We have replaced many objects on the PvP drop tables with more generic items.
We have added “loot drops”, which are objects worth large sums of cash. These objects can be sold to Mandrith in Edgeville or his brother Nastroth in Lumbridge (who only appear in PvP worlds).
Due to forum feedback, we have removed all poisoned items from the drop tables.
Please note that we have not tried to change the average value of PvP drops – they are intended to be exactly the same as before. Also, it is still possible to get the items we’ve removed from the drop tables if your opponent is carrying them, and the chances of getting these items from your opponent’s inventory are the same as before.

Old monsters find new home in old Bounty Hunter crater

We’ve been made aware of a few existing monsters in the game that are too few in number, especially in areas busy with eager slayers. We made a list of these critters from the forums, and have added a menagerie of appropriate beasts to the Bounty Hunter crater. The area will now contain hellhounds, lesser demons, greater demons and a range of skeletons.

Teleports and switches

All teleport spells cast in Bounty Worlds will now take you to Edgeville, and there is a new switch leading to the high-level Wilderness from the ruined building south of the bank in Edgeville.

Gravestone changes

If you die in a special area (what we call an “instanced” event), you will now be given a gravestone, which will appear in the nearest non-instanced place to the one where you died. For example, if you died while fighting Bork in the Chaos Tunnels, your gravestone would appear outside the portal to Bork’s cave, giving you a chance to return and collect your items. The gravestone will be marked on the world map, and a timer will tell you how much time you have left before it disappears. Logging out will not make the gravestone disappear, although the timer will continue to count down while you are offline. Also, all gravestones will now remain in place for one minute more than they used to.

Finally, we just want to let you know that we have added an earning-potential display to PvP and Bounty Worlds interfaces. For more information on this update, visit the Recent Updates thread in the forums.

PvP worlds have arrived! Are you ready to pit your combat skills against other players in the halls of the White Knights’ Castle? Are you prepared to fight to the death in the fields of Lumbridge? Well, now is your chance.

To get started, load up the game like normal (click here to read about the changes to the log-in system we’ve also released today), and then choose ‘World Select’ on the title screen. Then pick a world which has a tick in the ’skull’ column to choose a PvP world. To avoid nasty accidents, if you let the game choose a world for you automatically it will never select a PvP world. Also note that you require a Combat level of at least 20 (not including Summoning) to get into a PvP world.

Before you are logged in, you will be warned that you are entering a PvP world which is a dangerous place: you will lose your items on death and you will not get a gravestone. Upon entering the world for the first time, you’ll be teleported to Lumbridge and given a manual to explain the finer points of PvP worlds.

Here’s a quick run-down of the features:

• Fight players (within your level range) anywhere on the map, except in a few safe areas.
• Safe areas include banks, respawn points and some guilds.
• Level ranges are 10% of your Combat level, plus 5 levels. If you are fighting inside the Wilderness, the Wilderness level is added to this total. Your current attack range is shown on your screen at all times. (The 10% is measured from the higher of the two combatants’ levels.)
• Skulling is back – same rules apply. If you initiate combat, you are skulled and on death you will lose all items, with the Protect Item prayer saving one item as normal.
• Teleport Block is back in the normal spellbook.
• Some minigames are available to play, others are not – please see the Game Guide for more details.
• Death drops are back – new rules apply. Drops will be a mixture of items from the defeated opponent’s inventory and items from drop tables specific to PvP worlds. See below for details.

The quality of the drops you get when you PK someone depends on several different factors:

• To get a reward from a kill, you also have to risk some items yourself!
• To accumulate a possible reward, you have to risk a minimum of 75k of items on a members’ world, or a minimum of 25k of items on a free world.
• Note that your three most valuable items won’t count as being risked unless you’ve been skulled, as you wouldn’t lose them.
• The longer you spend on a PvP world (outside a safe area) with the required amount of items at risk, the better your possible rewards might become, to reward you for your risk.
• The possible reward increases even faster and goes to a higher maximum if you go into a ‘hot zone’.
• Note, however, that risking more than the minimum won’t improve your rewards faster, so it’s a good idea to take relatively cheap and useful items that won’t cost you too much to replace if you die.

When you get a successful kill, the exact reward you can claim depends on a number of other factors, including the level difference between you and the value of the items lost by the dying player. Any unclaimed loot is saved for the next kills, so you don’t have to worry about it being lost if you kill a low level player.

Don’t despair if you are dying a lot and losing a lot of items. The game will detect this and improve your chance of getting decent rewards when you do eventually get a good kill.

The above is a simplified description of how it all works. To prevent cheating there are various other factors taken into account. We’ve calculated the rewards and rates very carefully, so that a successful PKer should be able to get a good income, and PKers who get lucky might find themselves with a good drop. Higher level players may also get higher rewards to reflect their increased earning ability when not PKing, such that PKing is still worthwhile for them. The aim is to make PKing a fun alternative (albeit very high risk) way of earning money in the game.

Included in the PvP-specific drop tables is a wide range of new combat equipment and XP-boosting gloves. Members will get access to level 78 items for all three corners of the combat triangle, including armour as well as weapons, and a new set of Ancient Magick spells. Non-members will get access to corrupt dragon equipment. To find out more about these items, please visit the Game Guide.

Anti Fire breath Potion (level 69 Herblore to make)
Find the new herb Lantadyme (level 67 to identify). Put it in a vial of water and add a blue dragon scale and you will make our new anti fire breath potion. This potion prevents some of the damage from Dragonbreath.
If you use the new potion, the anti dragon breath shield and the protection from melee then you won’t take damage from dragons except for the King black dragon.

We’ve also made some improvements to the chat filter.

On the low detail version we’ve made the mini map work much better so it moves a lot more smoothly now.

The banks now work the same for free users who used to have members as they did in rs1 - ie if your bank is too full you can still bank things if you already have other copies them in your bank.

Combat adjustments

As you know, a lot of the aim of the RS2 combat system is to try and get a “pking triangle”, Where mages tend to beat fighters, fighters tend to beat rangers, and rangers tend to beat mages.
Therefore all 3 classes are viable and no one can say one class is superior and the combat system is unbalanced.

However, beta testing has been leading to the reaction by many that “Mages are overpowered” Which certainly wasn’t our intention.

The following changes have therefore been added to try and address the imbalances in the combat system which have been turned up by our users during beta testing;

A) Bigger magic penalties on armour.
It seemed too easy to succesfully cast magic while using rune armour, meaning a lot of the weaknesses the mages were supposed to have were negated.
We envisaged the mages mostly player killing in robes. They still tended to beat warriors because they could cast bind/entangle/snare on the warrior and then step back and cast spells. They would take quite a bit of damage when their entangles wore off and the warriors ran in, but they still had the edge.
Against rangers, entangle is obviously ineffective as the rangers can attack from a distance too, and because of the mages only wearing robes, rangers would hit a lot and therefore have the edge against mages.
This all breaks down somewhat if mages are effective in rune armour and mages end up beating everyone, hence we are increasing the minuses to magic stats on armour, so they tend to pk in robes.

In a future update we would like to add some sort of mages armour to the game, which wouldn’t be as good as plate and would only be effective against warriors and not rangers, but would still be useful for giving mages some additional protection.

B) More ranging equipment for free servers
The ‘player killing triangle’ just didn’t work on free servers because there was no ranging equipment. We have therefore increased the amount of ranging equipment on free servers. We are giving them arrows up to steel, bows up to the oak long bow and armour up to green dragonhide. (dragonhide is extremely useful for rangers against mages because of its magic defense)
This equipment will be available to free users in shops and from monster drops. (fletching will stay a members only skill).
The dragonhide body can be bought from Oziach.

C) More ranging equipment for member servers
Obviously as we are giving some of this ranging equipment to free users its only fair to give some more ranging equipment to members.
The current dragonhide armour has become green dragonhide and we have created blue dragonhide, red dragonhide and black dragonhide for members.

Members can also find and kill green dragons for their hides in the wilderness.

D) More projectiles as monster drops
For rangers to be balanced in the ‘triangle’ they need to be using fairly good quality projectiles and I think a lot of people were not doing this as it was too expensive for them.
Expect monsters to now be dropping better javelins, arrows, throwing darts and knives.

E) The defence stat now helps against magic
One reason that mages were seen to be “Overpowered” by certain fighters was because your defence skill against magic was your own magic skill. If you were an absolute pure then mages would barely ever miss you because you effectively had a defence of 1.
While we would like to encourage people to level up their magic (and theres no reason for people not to in RS2) this was going a bit too far.

Magic defence now uses some of your defence stat and some of your magic stat, so even the most absolute of pures will have some defence against magic. It’s probably still advisable to level up your magic for defence purposes though.

The duel arena bank has now been moved to next to the hospital.Fixed: Sometimes killing certain quest npcs didn’t advance you in a quest like it should.
Fixed: Crossbows changed colour to match your hair
Fixed: There was an area at the edge of one of the duelling arenas which you could stand in and could be killed and lose your items as if you weren’t in the arena when you died. In this spot you could also do strange things such as lean on the barrier above you to escape the arena. This place is now blocked off like it should be.
Fixed: You could get stuck in the duelling arena if you selected no forfeit and no melee together and then neither of your bought any runes or arrows to kill each other with.
Fixed: You could select a duel with the no movement option and then plant flowers or light a fire so you weren’t standing next to your opponent.

You will also gain the ability to summon a phoenix familiar to aid you in your battles – something that many of you voted for in April’s Guaranteed Content poll. Sorry that you’ve had to wait a while for this!

Changing your stats in RuneScape is no easy feat, especially if you want to do it legally. There are various programs out there that will allow you to change your RuneScape stats as well, plus there are some services that will actively play your character for you.

The Best Way of Changing Your Stats
The best way of changing your character’s stats in the magical world of RuneScape is simply to play the game. As you defeat enemies and accomplish tasks, your character will gain experience and levels. This will naturally make your character more powerful and up his or her stats.

RuneScape is, when it’s all said and done, a game. By skipping over gaining levels and experience, you’re missing out on the key element of RuneScape. The main goal of the game isn’t getting to the highest level or maximum stats but to enjoy playing.

Using a Stat Adjustment Program
However, if you want to max out your stats without actually doing any of the work, you can download a RuneScape stat changer. Generally, you have to purchase these programs, and they’re usually a bit on the pricy side. Once you’ve downloaded them, they give you the ability to hack into the RuneScape server and change your character’s stats to whatever you want.

One very important thing to know about these programs is that many of them include viruses and other harmful things. You should run a virus scanner immediately after downloading the program to make certain there’s nothing harmful hidden in it. Even if the scan turns up negative, be very cautious when using illegal programs like stat changers.

Also note that the Jagex staff (the creators of RuneScape) do not approve of stat changers and will ban your account if they discover you using one.

Allowing Others to Play Your Character
Another way of getting your character’s stats up is to pay another person to play your account. Like the stat changing programs, you can find these services on various websites. However, note that you must give these other players your RuneScape user name and password. This gives them full access to your account, and you never know what they’re going to do. Some may actually level your character, but others may scam you.

Sometimes, these services will level your character to a certain level, while other times you can specify which stats you want increased. Either way, be certain that nothing bad has happened to your account, and immediately change your password after your character’s stats have been increased.

Again, using a stat changing service is just as illegal as using a stat changing program, and Jagex will ban your account if they discover that you’ve done this.

Don’t Risk It
As you can see, the two “easy” ways of gaining stats in RuneScape both carry huge risks. Stat changing programs can infect your computer with many harmful viruses, while hiring other people to play your character can result in your character’s gold and gear being stolen. Both also bring up the risk of having your account banned.

If you truly want to increase your character’s stats, simply play the game. It doesn’t cost you extra money, nor is there any risk to your computer or character.

Money making tips- If you’re a member get your crafting really high and make ruby or diamond amulets. Then get your magic lvl really high to enchant them to make strength amulets (from ruby amulets) or power amulets (from diamond amulets). Sell them to non-members because they can’t enchant and sell the 4 5-10k each. You’ll make a big profit if you do this.

If you want a lot of money (gp) and your not a high lvl at most skills here a good money making tip. First get all the money you have and buy cooked lobs for about 45gp each at the store spend all your money to get a lot of lobs. Then you note all of them and go to a world with a lot of players. Sell them all for about 200gp each keep doing this and you’ll be rich.

This is another way to make money without having high leveled skills. First complete the Rune Mysteries quest to be able to rune craft. Then get 4k rune essence or more and sell them for 90gp each. This will get you money and mining experience.

If you’re high leveled in combat go kill moss giants you will get big bones which you should store in your bank. They also drop good items like gems which you should make into rings and sell. You can also get runes and weapons and armor which you can also sell. You can get your combat level up and also get some cash. If you want you can also kill ice giants and hill giants they have big bones and drop good items too.

Go to Port Sarim and take good range, mage, or melee armor. Go to the entrance of Port Sarim and go east if your facing Port Sarim. You will find earth, air, water, and fire, wizards here. Kill them to get runes and talismans sell the runes to the rune shop close by and sell the talismans to player for 500gp each.

Go to Port Sarim’s jewelry shop and buy a lot of jewelry of what ever kind they have most of. Then go to another world and sell them if they don’t have a lot there. Keep doing this to get a ton of cash. But this may take a while so you might have to keep trying.

Go to Al-Kharid and go to the gem shop and buy a lot of uncut gems. Cut them and make them into amulets. Sell them all to get a lot of money or enchant them to make more money.

Scamming and Hacking into accounts are unfortunately very common in Runescape. The tips below will help you to protect your account from any hacking and scamming when playing.

Hacking Account

The most common way that people can hack your account is that they get your password, whether it be from key loggers, simply guessing it, or other advanced macro programs that are there today. Follow these tips to further protect your account.

•Change your password often: I try to change my password at least 2 times a week. This prevents anyone from constantly gaining access to your account.
•Be sure to set your recovery questions: This should be one of the first things that you do when you open an account. It is helpful not only for regaining access to your account if it happens to get hacked, but also in case you happen to forget it as well.
•Never give your password to anyone for any reason: Never type your password in the chat screen JAGEX does block your password from being displayed, but you could mystipe it so it will be still visible!! Trust me I’ve done it.
•Be sure to run your virus program daily to detect any viruses: Trojan Viruses often carry key loggers which can track what you are typing, including your password.
•Make your password impossible to guess! I use a password generator for this. A password generator creates a random password for you automatically, just be sure to write it down, lol.
•Use a Firewall on your computer - Using a Firewall is a great way to protect yourself from any unseen threats.
Earn 5-10 Million in Less Than 10 Minutes!

Have you ever been playing Runescape, and saw a message indicating that Run- escape will be Upgrading or performing maintenance on the game? Well this is your ticket to getting rich very quickly. When you see this message you need to head to the Magic Guild ASAP. When you arrive logout then log back in (after update). Make sure you have a lot of money in your inventory, because you will need it. If you don’t have much, then just take what you have.

Why The Magic Guild?

Whenever Runescape is completed with there upgrade all the items in the shops across Runescape will be reset to the maximum number of items, which is 5,000. As long as you can purchase these runes cheaper then the street value you can make huge profit. Ex. I bought almost 3 million worth of various runes, I than sold them in less then 5 minutes (once arriving to the bank to sell) for over 20 million!

The following are just some simple tips & tricks to keep in mind when try to make money. Some of these tips will seem obvious, however it is still important:

•Always use a calculator! For accurate trades it is very important to keep a calculator on hand. Make sure they are selling/buying for the price they said. I personally always keep a calculator on hand. You never know when you will run into scammers!
•Start slow! Start off only selling 1 or 2 items at first. When you first start merchanting items it is important too stay focused on 1-2 items. This will- help you learn and perfect the different sale techniques for your item, whether it be iron ore, coal, feathers, or whatever else you may be selling.
•Buy starting out slow you will be able to find out what works well and what does not.
•ALWAYS DEAL IN BULK! I can’t stress this enough, this is the easiest and almost the only way to make big money. It’s simple really: The more items you have the more profit there is to be made off of that item.
•Buy low and Sell High! This is obvious right? Use the price guide to double check the prices for items you are unfamiliar with.
•Be sure to use the most updated price guide.
•PATIENCE is the key, sometimes it can take awhile to sell. This is ok, if the items won’t sell for what you are asking (and the price of the items are relevant).
•DON’T SELL CHEAP! Just keep the items in your bank, and try to sell them later. Having items in your bank is just like having money on your pocket.
•Double check all trades to avoid scams. To good to be true? Most likely is.
•Never give in on your price, if they won’t buy it then leave, don’t waste your time with them. There are always plenty of buyers!!
•Use the FORUMS! They are there for a reason. This is the easiest way to sell in bulk. The forums are also a very good way to find bargains on low priced items as well. Forums
•Switch worlds often. If you cant find any good deals, log into another world, eventually you will find them. In general you can find items for less money in the less populated worlds. The higher the population in the world the higher the prices will be
•Try different bank locations to find the items your looking to buy/sell. Example - If buying ores or bars you should try the banks in Faldor as this town has a furnace and is close to mining areas. If you are buying Rune Essence visit the East Bank in Varrock, since it is close to the Rune Essence mine.
