So what is a Runescape Autominer?
Well firstly and foremost I should just warn that runescape autominers are illegal to use in conjunction with Runescape and that this guide is more about explaining what they are than recommending you use them, because they will get you banned. RuneScape Q&A – Further Answers

Many of you will have read Mark Gerhard’s newspost last month in which he invited you to ask us questions about the company and our games. The response was fantastic, and thousands of you sent in your questions. Today we are posting the latest installment of RuneScape questions, which have been answered by Paul Gower, myself and Mod Roderick.

Deposit-all feature and more

This week’s continuation of our Upgrade Year brings a significant reduction in the number of clicks when interacting with the RuneScape bank, and more information about the wealth you are carrying – a feature that will also help you determine whether you are risking enough wealth on PvP worlds to gain the drop potential.

When it comes to depositing items in the bank, we have had a rethink: instead of insisting that you click on each individual item you want to deposit, we decided to give you the option to deposit everything that is in your inventory, or everything you are wearing and wielding. The sorting in the bank works as follows: everything that already has an equivalent item in the bank gets stacked, while all other items will end up in the tab that is currently active. This should give you more free time to earn XP, talk to your friends, and generally have fun!

The behaviour of the “noted” button has also changed, so that whenever you close and then re-open the bank, it will revert to its default, unnoted state.

We have also made a couple of changes to gameplay in PvP worlds. Firstly, the Items Kept on Death button will now show you the total value of everything you are wearing and carrying, and the value of all the items you are at risk of losing. This is in addition to the price-checker we introduced last week, and its main purpose is to allow you to determine whether you are risking the necessary 75k (or 25k on a free world) to qualify for the better drops on PvP worlds (click here for more details on PvP-world drops). Of course, this new feature can also be used on normal worlds – particularly useful if you want to find out how much you would lose if those pesky, stone-throwing trolls finally got you!

Secondly, we have realised that some players, when losing a battle, try to drop all of their items before dying, either with the intention of returning to collect their items at a later date, or to bring themselves below the 25k limit so their opponent won’t get any drops. To resolve this issue, we have introduced a restriction so that you can no longer drop items worth more than 1,000gp while in combat with another player, or within ten seconds of leaving PvP combat. If the item is worth 1,000gp or less, you can drop it as normal. Note that you will not be affected by this restriction if you are attacked by an NPC.

Red chinchompas have been breeding in the jungle, and can now be found in slightly larger numbers - so grab your hunting gear and get hunting!

The Humidify spell from the Lunar spell book can no longer be cast while in the Soul Wars minigame.

The sounds associated with birds’ nests you sometimes hear when chopping down trees are now more audible, so you can tell more easily when a nest has fallen to the floor.

The Ectofuntus grinder can now be set to either manual or auto when grinding bones, which can be toggled on and off at your leisure. Also, the disciples will now be able to hold up to four times as many ecto-tokens than they used to.

Duel Arena Tournaments and Changes

A large area, dating back to the Second Age, has been excavated beneath the Duel Arena, and what better use for it than a new player-vs-player minigame! This is the home of duel tournaments; a challenge for those who felt that only one round of fighting in a staked or friendly duel was a bit wimpy.

For those brave enough to take on up to 63 other players in a duel tournament, there is the potential to win 64 times your original entry fee: high stakes indeed, for an event that will demand your very best.

Which leads to our second addition: Duel Tournament Rankings! Your duel tournament history will be recorded by your rank, which can be viewed from the Hiscores table if you have a rank of 1,900 or above.

The rank will determine which of four ranked tournaments you can enter; for example, high-ranked players can fight other high-ranked players in the 1,900 - 3,500 tournaments. With duel tournaments, you will always be facing opponents of a similar duelling ability to you, across a range of randomly generated tournament rules.

Your rank will also affect the size of the entry fee. Higher-ranked matches generally have higher entry fees, and there is the chance to win much more - up to 64 million gp!

To ensure that you have plenty of opponents, we are keeping duel tournaments to specific servers. Visit worlds 18,44,46,48,54,59,64,78,83,98,110,114,121,129,130 or 132 to spar with the very best that RuneScape has to offer. We are keeping an eye on the duel tournament activity on these worlds, so this selection may change.

There are a huge number of tournament rule combinations, gathered from player submissions and the recent Duel Arena poll, so no tournament will ever feel the same. Fancy fighting through six rounds with no food? Or four rounds with no armour? The variety is massive, offering a challenge for every type of player, whether they are hungry to reach the top or happy to enjoy themselves.

Duel Arena Changes:

We have made some necessary changes to the above-ground staked and friendly duels of the Duel Arena:

•There is now a cap to the amount a player can win in the space of 15 minutes in a staked duel, which is set to 3,000 coins. This limit will make it harder for real-world traders to unfairly use the Duel Arena as a covert way of transferring items. Of course, if you want to take part in some high-stakes duelling you now have the duel tournaments instead!
•The gp value of any item wagered in a staked duel is defined by the ‘player value’. This ‘player value’ of an item will change according to any market fluctuations once the Grand Exchange has been introduced.
•Logging out of a staked duel will mean that you have forfeited the match, and the staked items will go to your opponent.
•Stats boosted before entering a duel will reset to their normal value at the start. You can still use potions during the duel, provided they haven’t been disallowed.

In other news…

Various trees on Farming patches had accidentally been enlarged. Also, the texturing on the diseased versions caused them to look quite odd. Both the texturing and size of the trees have now been fixed.

Teleport sounds have been changed so that they’re only heard by the spell’s caster. Previously these sounds caused some confusion as to what was going on in the player’s surrounding area.

Oldak from the Land of the Goblins quest is now a little more helpful when you’re further along in the quest. He will continue to teleport you back to the temple if you bring him two law runes and some molten glass.

We have made a number of objects untradeable. These items were either quest objects that were not generally useful after the quest or they were easy to obtain items that were used by scammers who lied about them being rare. Examples include doogle leaves, doogle sardines, sulphur, spinach rolls, polished buttons, the Shantay pass and the axe flier.

New RuneScape front page

We have made a few changes to the Runescape front page, making it more accessible and easier to get around, while also highlighting some areas you may not have looked at before.

The first change is to the ‘Recent News’ scroll. Instead of five news items, we have made room for six. The oldest three have been made into ‘More News’ links, while the three newest updates are on their own at the top, making it easier to tell if something has been added to the game or website.

You might also notice two new sections of the scroll. ‘Article of the Week’ focuses on a Knowledge Base page that might be useful or interesting to you, whether you are playing through the newest piece of content or simply exploring Runescape. ‘Recently added articles’ focuses on those Knowledge Base pages that have just been released, often giving information on the newest releases. Who knows - you might just find out a hint or trick that will help you master that new piece of content!

There has been a slight reshuffle to the left of the scroll, too. Here you will find a search box, so that you can find your desired Knowledge Base information quickly.

You will also find that the Lores and Histories and Development Diaries get their very own links, while Players’ Gallery, Postbag from the Hedge and the God Letters have a new home in ‘Player Submissions’. Additionally, the ‘Manual’ link now takes you directly to the articles and guides of the Knowledge Base, where before you had to click through an extra screen.

Please take some time to get to grips with this new design and its differences. We hope it won’t take you long to realise that it makes more sense and is much more accessible!

Runescape is based on Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels

Yes, I believe so. Maybe not exactly “based”, but definitely heavily influenced and inspired by. You can see and feel it everywhere: the way NPCs talk, quests structured, in behavior and customs of Runescape races, even while skilling!

The game is filled with intangible signs: drunken dwarves fighting in taverns with rock cakes, wizards doing strange machinery in their towers, gangs lurking in dark alleys of Ankh-Morpork…. Oops, sorry. I meant Varrock, of course.

Shop Improvements and Edgeville Revamped

As part of our continuing effort to improve the looks of the ‘older’ places of RuneScape, our Graphics team have been busy enriching and enhancing above-ground Edgeville. Townsfolk, buildings, bridges and even Oziach’s hut have all been revisited and spruced, including the entire surrounding area. From Edgeville Dungeon entrance and eerie graveyard to the Wilderness Ditch; from the bridge over the river to Oziach’s hut; the whole area has been given an exciting, and some might say ‘edgy’, new look!

Whether you need a place to meet before a Wilderness campaign or you’ve just come back to recover from your adventures in far-off places, stop by and take a look - you might find yourself on the ‘edge’ of your seat when examining the effort put in to improving this eccentric town!

In other news…

When fighting multiple NPCs in a player-owned house dungeon, the multiway combat wasn’t always applying itself correctly. As a result, these areas were single-way combat. This issue has now been fixed, so only enter if you dare!

After requests from players, a bank pin has been added to the Miscellania coffers. Advisor Ghrim has been given appropriate training and will now ask for it before letting you access your riches.

The Home Teleport spell, initially designed to help players who were stuck, has been slightly changed. If you have the Ancient or Lunar spellbook and cast the spell - when on a free world - you will now be teleported to Lumbridge. When you return to a members’ world, these will teleport you to Edgeville or Lunar Isle.

The amount of Magic experience for casting the Energy Transfer spell from Lunar Magics has been increased and is now consistent with the Knowledge Base.

Many flat-pack furniture items have had their descriptions changed to better reflect exactly what they contain. You will now be able to tell what you’re buying, whether it be a wooden chair or a gilded four-poster bed.

The waiting room time between Barbarian Assault waves has been reduced from one minute to 30 seconds; we feel this is more than enough time to check out your round breakdown and make any changes to your team. It will also mean that you don’t have to wait as long before going once more unto the breach!

Shop Improvements:

You’ll find that the shops of RuneScape have received a significant makeover this week. Most notably, turning away empty-handed from a shop will be a thing of the past, with infinite stock available from almost every store.

Each shop’s stock is now split into two tabbed sections - ‘Main Stock’ and ‘Player Stock’. ‘Main Stock’ houses an infinite number of items available for you to buy, while the ‘Player Stock’ tab displays all of the items that have been sold to the shop by players.

Price differs between these two sections. The ‘Main Stock’ is more expensive, but generally guarantees a constant value and an infinite supply that you can rely on. ‘Player Stock’ offers items at a lower price than the shop stock, but stock levels are variable. It’s always worth checking this tab for bargains!

These changes will mean that autoshoppers and bots can no longer make a profit from abusing the shop system. We are sure you’ll find this to be a very good thing - after all, we want RuneScape to be fun and not frustrating.

On that note, we’ve made additional changes to shopping, in an attempt to make it more fun and less frustrating. A ‘buy-x’ option has been added so that you do not have to spam-click when buying large quantities of stock. Also, the ‘Main Stock’ cost of certain skill-based items has increased. This is so that you still have an incentive for making your items or buying them from players who have the levels to produce them, rather than just buying from a shop.

There is a page on the knowledge base explaining how to use the new shops and all the improvements in greater detail. It?s really very easy, and the more runescape friends you have the better a time you?ll have in runescape.

One of the best ways to make a good, lasting runescape friend in runescape is PKing. If you like to PK then find someone in runescape around your level. Ask them to team up (make sure they don?t backstab you!) and after you get your first kill together you?ll have a Runescape friend for life in runescape.

Another thing: if you?re selling an item to a runescape player and it?s a fair price (it should be), then don?t hesitate to chat about stuff outside of the trade about runescape. You might find that you?ll make a lasting runescape friend this way ? not to mention a reliable buyer in the long run in runescape.

Make sure, however, that you don?t expect anything from them. Sure, Runescape friends do favors for each other, but make sure you don?t require them to. The most common mistake that screws up Runescape friendships is one person demanding something from the other just because ?he?s a friend in Runescape.?
