RS2 is very nearly complete now. So as the final test before we go for the full launch we’ve opened it to free users as well as members for one big final test! This means all the free users who have been waiting to try out RS2 finally can. Just two important thing to remember.

1) The beta is played with a test account, which is a copy of your RS1 account. Nothing you do on the beta will affect your main character in any way. Everything you do on the beta will be forgotten when the beta ends, so bear mind any items or levels you gain here are non permenant.

2) If you are playing the beta with a brand new account you just created, you MUST log it into RS1 at least once, before it will let you use it in RS2. Of course there is no need to create a new account anyway, as you can use your normal character safely. Obviously once we go to the full real launch this requirement will go away .

Dangerous Agility

Posted by runescape

All budding athletes and gymnasts out there will be pleased to know that there is now an even better way of improving your agility. Just head down to your nearest deep wilderness…We’ve put in a high level assault course for anyone who is hell-bent about building their agility XP. So pack yourself a napsack and get ready for some serious lava-dodging action.

Of course you do run the risk of dying painfully in a hail storm of arrows, but nobody said that getting perfect abs would be easy. As our head of Customer Support would say: no pain, no gain.

Today’s update adds the much requested sleeping bags to RuneScape! These allow you to quickly recover your fatigue without having to walk all the way to a bed. Now you can finally pull those all-nighter fishing sessions you’ve been dreaming of.
As well as adding a touch of realism to the game, the fatigue system is also designed to stop people cheating using macro software. To wake-up from your slumber you will therefore have to answer a very simple challenge which should be easy to answer, but hard for cheats to automate.

This will make things much more difficult for all those cheaters who’ve been trying to ruin the game for everyone else. To ensure maximum protection we’ve also adjusted fatigue slightly so you get VERY SMALL amounts of fatigue on other skills. However it literally only takes a few seconds to recover using a sleeping bag, so this really shouldn’t impact on the game negatively.

Sleeping bags are on sale at all General Stores throughout RuneScape.

We’ve also made some changes to the mining system.

a) Since fatigue is now extremely easy to recover we’ve also put the rocks back to how they were before we changed them. Hard/soft-rocks don’t make much sense now fatigue is so much easier to recover.

b) We’ve added another much requested feature - different types of pickaxes! These take the repetative clicking out of mining with rune-pickaxes hitting the rock 12 times per click!

c) We have kept the ores showing up as different colours in the rocks, so you don’t waste time mining empty rocks.

Please may I ask that everyone tries this new system properly BEFORE commenting on it this time (e.g wait at least 24 hours before sending us feedback). Feedback from players who haven’t actually used the system they are commenting on, is obviously utterly useless to us.

Easter 2010 Event Guide

Posted by runescape

A year has passed since Easter Bunny Jr. took over the family business and became responsible for the annual distribution of chocolate treats to the people of RuneScape.

He’s been busy all year, modernising the factory to meet increasing demand and making ambitious plans for the next Easter celebration. Alongside the usual plethora of sugary delights, the Easter Bunny plans to offer a range of alternatives, catering for the wide variety of cultures who celebrate Easter in their own way.

The Bunny’s heart is certainly in the right place, but logistical concerns have come second to his grand vision and now he’s struggling to meet his orders. He needs your help to get things back on track and make this Easter the best yet.

Getting Started

Down the rabbit hole. The factory entrance is, once again, located just north of Rimmington. Only the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed will be able to enter, so you’ll need to need some help from the factory’s staff.

Expansion of the factory means that there are some new faces around this year. By the rabbit hole you’ll meet Charlie the squirrel. Despite his surly manner and warlike countenance he wants everything to run smoothly, so speak to him nicely and he’ll let you into the factory to see the Easter Bunny. Just don’t ask him if that’s a skirt he’s wearing!

Preparation
The Bunny’s been so busy dealing with clients that he hasn’t had time to deal with the day-to-day running of the factory. Your first job will be to speak to each of the teams in turn and deal with the problems that are holding them up:

The incubator has become dirty and clogged from heavy usage, and the impling manager in charge has delegated performance of the required maintenance to you. You’ll need to lend some muscle to get the machine up and running again.

The implings at the egg-painting machine are running low on the coloured glazes used to decorate the Easter eggs and need your help to mix up a new batch.

The old hands running the conveyor belt have been given some additional responsibility. They now have to sort chocolate as well as nuts from the assorted debris that comes their way. They’re a bit stuck in their ways and have trouble adapting to change, so you’ll need to show them how it’s done.

The Easter Bird is becoming jaded after performing the same role year in, year out and needs a rousing speech to rekindle the strong team spirit and passion for confectionery that once burned within his soul.

Management
Once the factory is up and running again, it’s down to you to manage the available resources to meet the year’s chocolate quota. You’ll need to balance your resources and workforce carefully. Gather materials, assign workers to produce tasty treats and deal with any disasters that come up. The Easter Bunny will tell you everything you need to know, but here are a few tips in case you’re having trouble:

Gather plenty of resources early on.
Stock spares of each material type. The resources used for wages and recruitment or lost during accidents are chosen at random.
Try to fix broken machines yourself rather than assigning workers to the task.
If you make a mistake, don’t worry. You can always try again once the order is complete or reset the management game by talking to the Easter Bunny.

Distribution

Once the order is complete the goods must be distributed among the disparate people and cultures of RuneScape. Within each of the three main cities of Lumbridge, Varrock and Falador waits a courier to convey a different cargo of seasonal delights to its intended recipients. Their locations are marked on the map given to you by the Easter Bunny.

Rewards

Once the Easter treats have been distributed to the couriers and sent on their way to their recipients, you may return to the Easter Bunny for your well-deserved reward. If you managed to complete the order by the Easter Bunny’s deadline, the reward will be slightly more special.

The Land of Snow is once again open to visitors from the realm of RuneScape, for the Queen of Snow is throwing a lavish Christmas feast for all and sundry. Or, at least, she was, but some miserly old sort has stolen all the posh nosh! Oh, and locked Santa in a cage for good measure.

The Event

If you fancy a feast this Christmas - indeed, if you fancy a Christmas this Christmas - you’re going to have to head to the Land of Snow and buddy up with a snow imp to take on the food thief, Ebenezer Scourge. The Land of Snow can be reached through the Christmas cupboards (now with realistic snow effectâ„¢) found north of Falador, behind the Wise Old Man’s house in Draynor Village, and in Varrock’s market square.

Once there, simply talk to a snow imp to get cracking - who knows, it could even be your snow imp pal from last year’s frost-filled afair. Whichever imp ends up at your side, they’ll probably have a plan to scare up some grub.

Rewards

Once you’ve stitched together a plan of action, rattled some chains and spooked a scary old man into mending his ways, you should have a chat with the newly-freed Santa before claiming your reward from under the Christmas tree in the Land of Snow. You’ll also be free to help yourself to the now fully-laden tables of food (the food can only exist in the Land of Snow, though).

They may not be able to fly well, run particularly fast or look inconspicuous, but the turkeys always seem to ruin Thanksgiving plans. This time round, the brother of the Lumbridge Castle cook has been plumping the Thanksgiving turkeys up on a special food mix, designed to make them extra lean and tasty. Instead, the turkeys have turned out to be super-sized and extra strong, and they are less than enamoured with the idea of being in Lumbridge stomachs! Can you get them on tables in time for Thanksgiving? Head to the Lumbridge Castle kitchen to find out.

The Event

What’s the matter? Chicken? Turkey Basting

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to kill the super-turkeys that are gathering in the north of Lumbridge!

You won’t be left to challenge these level 138 monsters by yourself, of course; the brother of the Lumbridge Cook wouldn’t be that cruel. He will offer you gravy from the great gravy boat of Saradomin, making you stronger and less likely to take damage from your opponents. It is then up to you to fight and kill every one of the ten turkeys as the cook cheers on from the sidelines!

You can return to complete the event at any time by travelling a short distance north-west of Fred the Farmer’s field, north of Lumbridge.

It should become clear that three problems stand between you and the party to end all parties.

Don’t Blame it on the Workshy…

Minstrel Web - the bath tub-dwelling spider of Halloween 2009’s event - has been put in charge of lighting, dancefloor and background music, which is too many jobs even for an eight-legged spider. So, she has employed assistant spiders who have disobeyed their master and gone missing, unwilling to help.

To get the spiders back to work, you’ll have to find them in the mansion. This means searching any furniture around the house, and trying to convince spiders that they need to do their job. There are four spiders in the open and four spiders hiding, while one wandering spider will have to be scared into returning to the dancefloor!

Once all eight spiders have been found, they will appear on the dancefloor at the bottom of the mansion. Your objective is to move each spider to the dancefloor tile that corresponds to their colour. This is a difficult task, as moving one spider (which can be done by simply left-clicking) will often move another, so it is wise to keep track of their effects and plan accordingly. The puzzle will only complete once the spiders are on their respective tiles.

Don’t Blame it on the Moonshine…

The werewolf backing singers are concerned about their voices, and haven’t had a drink for many moons. This would be simple if they didn’t ask for moonshine: a drink that few know how to make, and even fewer can drink without dying a grisly death.

You’ll need to gather the moonshine ingredients from the buffet table in the main hall of the mansion, and then talk to the three werewolves about the order that they are placed in the vial. Each will offer a clue to creating a correct potion, and failure results in you having to start the potion all over again!

Blame it on the Boogie!

It’s hard to imagine Grim being a fanboy of anyone or anything, but it seems he has one guilty pleasure: the music of Zabeth Corvid and his band, Adamantite Damsel. Now the band are in his house, and Grim has developed butterflies in his ribcage; he wants an autograph from Zabeth, but doesn’t have the guts (quite literally) to ask him for it.

To get an autograph from Zabeth, you will need to overcome Zabeth’s biggest impediment: he is always one conversation ahead of you. To complete a full conversation with Zabeth, you will have to listen to what he says and then guess what dialogue option he is responding to. For example, if he were to say “I’m fine, thank you”, he is likely responding to the future question of “How are you?”. Keeping this in mind, you should be able to have a full conversation that ends in Grim getting an autograph.

Clearing the dancefloor with your monster moves.

Rewards

With the party popping and everyone dancing, a trip to Pumpkin Pete will end the matter. There are rewards in it for you, including the bone brooch, which turns you into a pile of bones with a single touch.

Money making guide/Magic

Posted by runescape

Buy 10 opal bolts off the ge for 14 each, a cosmic rune for 75 (you will only need 1 cosmic rune for every 10 bolts enchanted) and a staff of air for 945. The higher your mage level, the better bolts you can enchant and in turn making more profit.
2***** Level 7 Buy sapphire necklaces for 1,250 coins, cosmic runes for 75 coins each, and a water staff, which costs 1,003 coins. Enchant the sapphire necklaces and sell them for 1,627 coins, pocketing the difference. This is much more effective if you start out with a bit of cash. Non-members can do the same with Sapphire amulets, making Amulets of Magic. However, this will make less profit.
5***** Level 25-58+ Teletabs can be made and sold for both magic experience and profit, provided you have access to a lectern. You can visit a friend’s lectern also. A dedicated world for house parties is currently World 31. The different teletabs you can make depends on your Magic level and the type of lectern you use. Assuming all materials are purchased (including runes and soft clay), each teletab gives the following profit: Varrock Teleport (277 coins), Lumbridge Teleport (363 coins) Falador Teleport (341 coins), Camelot Teleport which is the best way to make money with theis methode (248 coins), Ardougne Teleport (256 coins), and House Teleport (490 coins). In general, it is possible to craft about 900 teletabs per hour if a butler is helping you. 40 Construction (less if you have tea)
4***** Level 33+ The Mage Training Arena is a decent place at which to train Magic for profit. Though cost of runes to earn points may seem high, infinity robes sell for high amounts of coins, ultimately resulting in profit. The best things to buy are the infinity boots and the mage’s book. This proves to be an extremely good source of money for those who can do this minigame for a long time, averaging up to 500K per hour.

Effectiveness
(Coins per hour)
Crafting level requirement Details Other requirements Initial investment
*****163,000 Level 1 Buy cowhides from the Grand Exchange (for 212 coins each) and tan them into leather at the tanner in Varrock, using the Grand Exchange because it is nearby.

  • Although the official price for selling leather is 304 coins, there are so many players selling it that it’s difficult to get much more than the minimum price of 190 coins.
  • Killing the cows and gathering the hides yourself (instead of buying them) gives more profit but much less experience per hour.
212 coins per cowhide
*****
31,000 to 75,000
Level 1 Buy black robes and blue dye from the Grand Exchange, use the dye on the robes and sell the resulting wizard robes. You only make 104 coins profit per robe, but you can do this so quickly that the resulting profit can be good.

  • Sometimes blue dye is scarce on the Grand Exchange and you can wait a long time to purchase the desired quantities of it.
  • The best method for this is to first purchase equal numbers of black robes and blue dyes, empty your inventory, then withdraw 13 black robes, 13 blue dyes, and then 1 more of each - this sets your inventory so that there is one dye and one robe in the bottom-right corner. To dye the robes, click on the blue dye and then the black robe in the bottom-right corner; the actual dying will be performed on the first available dye and robe in your inventory, leaving the two in the bottom-right corner unmoved. Only dye 13 of them, leaving the two in the bottom right, deposit the 13 wizard robes then repeat the process (withdrawing 13 of each this time) - this lets you limit your mouse motion to one small area as you switch between clicking on the blue dye and clicking on the black robe. A loop of 13 wizard robes takes as little as 27 seconds. There isn’t a “dye all” option so you must click for each robe you want to dye.
  • The range of profit is dependant on the size of your initial investment; you can only reach the maximum effectiveness if you have a full 2,067,200 coins available initially - this allow you to purchase 1,600 black robes and blue dyes at one time, and as a result can spend most of your time dying robes. If instead you have a smaller investment, you will spend most of your time buying & selling (which does not generate profit).
  • Note: The wizard robe market is somewhat unstable and is currently in a slump, so that profits may fluctuate within time periods of less than a week. It is useful to use the Runescape Grand Exchange Page to maximize profit.
Level 5 Buy Gold bars and one Ring mould from the Grand Exchange, and run to the Furnace in Al Kharid and smelt how many gold rings you would like, and sell them at the Grand Exchange at minimum price. You will then make 85 coins profit on each ring that you smelt, while getting 15 Crafting experience for each ring.
Level 8 Buy Gold bars and one Amulet mould from the Grand Exchange, and run to the Furnace in Al Kharid and smelt how many gold amulets you would like, and sell them at the Grand Exchange at minimum price. You will then make 112 coins profit on each amulet that you smelt, while getting 30 Crafting experience for each amulet. This method is good for training and money making. Note: Gold Bars buy quickly and Gold Amulets sell very quickly, so expect a quick and easy profit.
