You should be sure to read the God Wars Dungeon – Introduction before even contemplating visiting Bandos’s Stronghold.

Like the rest of the God Wars Dungeon, Bandos’s Stronghold is a terribly dangerous place. Please only bring equipment that you’re not awfully attached to.

Introduction

Inside Bandos’s Stronghold

Few have even heard of the god called Bandos. For many centuries he has been thought to be an ancestor of the ogres, perhaps even the beast that claimed the lands of the Feldip Hills and Jiggig. Now that the God Wars Dungeon has defrosted, though, scribes across RuneScape are puzzled by this old god’s reappearance.

Bandos has never been worshipped by civilised races, but is occasionally revered by ogres and other unsavoury creatures. During the god wars he allied himself with different factions at different times, seeming to revel in bloodshed for its own sake. Adventurers heading into his Stronghold are likely to discover just how brutal his armies were…

Points of Interest

An overview of Bandos’s Stronghold

The entrance to the Stronghold is barred by a gong that will only ring for the strongest of visitors. To gain access to Bandos’s Stronghold you will need a hammer and a Strength level of at least 70.

Because of the natural brutality of the followers of Bandos, it is recommended that you come prepared for melee. Be warned, though: even Bandos has a use for mages and rangers.

If you manage to slay forty of Bandos’s followers, you will earn access to his general’s quarters, where you will find out just how hard a true giant can hit…

Personalities

General Graardor

If you need evidence that the god wars were a much harsher time than modern day, look no further than this enormous beast. No one knows what General Graardor is, but it is safe to assume that during the god wars he was truly favoured by Bandos. His massive frame is well armoured and, like a true devotee of the carnage of close combat, he fights almost exclusively with his fists.

Sergeant StrongstackStrongstack has fought in Bandos’s name for much of his life, and is unlikely to give up any time soon. If one thing remains unchanged about goblins, it is their love of combat.   Sergeant SteelwillSergeant Steelwill leads his tribe of goblins with strength of character and a vicious flail. No doubt many goblin leaders of modern times would like to have his ‘charisma’.   Sergeant GrimspikeIt’s thought that Grimspike was once cast out from his tribe for his excessive brutality. What better place to find his family than in the arms of Bandos’s legions?

Quests

There are no quest starts in Bandos’s Stronghold.

Bandos’s Brutal Legion

Ogre (Level 58)

Ogres are one of Bandos’s favourite creations, being utterly devoted to him and dull-witted enough to follow any order. The ogres in the God Wars Dungeon are massive brutes with little concept of safety.

  Jogre (Level 58)

Even during the god wars there were jungles to breed jogres in, and Bandos took advantage of their natural aggression to supplement his armies. The jogres are dangerous foes and are, if anything, more belligerent than orks.

Cyclops (Level 81)

With a single eye set in their heads, you might think that cyclopes are a weak foe, but those who have encountered their fists and their single-minded determination would no doubt beg to differ.

  Ork (Level 107)

The most reliable warriors in Bandos’s forces are the orks. They are massive beasts with a bloody-minded loyalty to their god of war: the ideal soldier in a battle that might never end.

Spiritual Ranger (Level 115)

Armed with heavy throwing axes, the spiritual rangers use the weight of their weaponry to their advantage. It’s hard to argue with a ghost when he’s beating you with twenty pounds of steel.

  Spiritual Mage (Level 121)

Though Bandos seems to have had little patience for mages, it is hard to dispute that his followers make excellent sorcerers (just look at the ogre shamans in Gu’Tanoth!). The spiritual mages in his Stronghold have used their powers to continue the battle after their bodies died.

Spiritual Warrior (Level 134)

The finest of Bandos’s warriors have returned from death to bring yet more glorious battle to their god’s attention. They are brutal and unforgiving warriors and should be avoided by all except the most confident.

Miscellaneous

  • If you are extraordinarily lucky, you may find that General Graardor or his bodyguards drop shards of the godsword. The hilt that the most determined ork smiths designed for that blade is only dropped by General Graardor.
  • The warriors of Bandos will be less inclined to attack you if you are wearing some of their armour.

We’ve just finished an enormous update to our music system to make the harps and bells of RuneScape’s music all the sweeter.

Firstly, we’ve changed the underlying technology used to play the music. We’ve completely rewritten the music player from scratch, so it now uses a bank of instruments built into the game itself rather than using whatever your soundcard happens to have. This has the advantage that the music sounds the same regardless of your computer, rather than varying from machine to machine. This in turn allows us to fine-tune the music exactly, instead of having to try to get something which generally works. Our new music technology should also be more compatible, meaning the music works correctly on more operating systems and soundcards than before!

Secondly, we’ve gone through every single song in the game, (a huge undertaking: there are nearly 500 songs), and hand-tuned each one to sound optimal with our new instrument set! As a result, many of the songs are sounding better than ever before, and you can finally hear them as we intended them to sound.

You may also notice the shiny new button on the log-in page. This lets you turn off the log-in music to preserve your speakers while you pop off to get a snack or take a break, all without interfering with your music settings in-game.

So, if you’ve been put off listening to the music for one reason or another, now’s the time to turn it on and enjoy the ambient delights!

We’re still planning some more tweaks to the system to improve your auditory experience, so keep checking the front page for news.

In other news…

In addition to the big soundbank update today, we’ve added ‘equip sounds’ to armour and weapons.

more fixes/changes

Posted by runescape

The duel arena bank has now been moved to next to the hospital.Fixed: Sometimes killing certain quest npcs didn’t advance you in a quest like it should.
Fixed: Crossbows changed colour to match your hair
Fixed: There was an area at the edge of one of the duelling arenas which you could stand in and could be killed and lose your items as if you weren’t in the arena when you died. In this spot you could also do strange things such as lean on the barrier above you to escape the arena. This place is now blocked off like it should be.
Fixed: You could get stuck in the duelling arena if you selected no forfeit and no melee together and then neither of your bought any runes or arrows to kill each other with.
Fixed: You could select a duel with the no movement option and then plant flowers or light a fire so you weren’t standing next to your opponent.

RS2 Beta updated again

Posted by runescape

Today we have added the following updates to Runescape 2.
Player routefinding has been greatly improved.
If you click to attack a monster your player will get to it much more easily instead of walking into fences and furniture.
A little flag will apear on the minimap when you click to go somewhere so that you can tell your character is moving to where you clicked.

Most of the npcs in the game no longer block movement.

We have added the shilo village quest.

We have made some changes and improvements to the trawler game.
Working as team now works better on the Runescape trawler game, fixing the nets, bailing and plugging leaks all now help everyone on the trawler.

We have changed around which areas in the wilderness are now multicombat - multicombat now mostly affects areas in the east of the wilderness rather than the west.

The pickaxes are now wieldable and can be used as weapons.

You can now use a tinderbox on logs in your inventory and you will automatically drop them and light a fire.

Spears have now been improved to be a good all around melee weapon which is useful for those wishing to train using the controlled combat style.

Maces now have a small prayer bonus, making them more useful for people who want to specialize as a cleric.

We have also fixed the following bugs;

Fixed: The temple of Ikov quest wouldn’t work if you bought Winelda limpwurt roots before she had asked for them
Fixed: You couldn’t enter the chaos, cosmic and nature rune temples
Fixed: Experience rewards were wrong on various quests
Fixed: Players could get stuck in the sewers when using the hazeel cult raft

It’s your letters!

Posted by runescape

This morning, while pursuing our usual website duties, we discovered that during the night somebody had burnt a large hole in our office wall, and left behind an envelope with an unusual odour and some faintly disturbing stains across it.
As we cautiously opened the envelope, trying not to think about what the smell reminded us of, we discovered that this was the way Zamorak had chosen to inform us that he had taken it upon himself to answer some more of your letters.

You can see what he has to say for himself in Letters 18, while we try to patch up what used to be our office wall.

Smoke Diamond

Posted by runescape

Items needed for this section: Facemask (buy from any Slayer master), Ice gloves (see Heroes Quest), 5-10 Energy or super energy potions(the Lumbridge Explorers Ring with 3 charges is also very helpful here), Armour (dragonhide armour or other armour resistant to magic is recommended), Weapon, Tinderbox, Waterskins, and a small amount of food and prayer potions may be needed. If you’ve completed As a First Resort… then using the Saltwater Spring might be a good alternative to energy potions here.

  • Take all of the items listed above and travel to the Smokey well. It is marked on the world map; hug the cliffs on the west side of Pollnivneach and head south to find it.
  • Enter the well. In each of the four corners of this dungeon there are torches that you need to light using your tinderbox. Plan your route through the dungeon first, but then run and light all the torches, sipping energy potions or using summoning familiars such as the Spirit Terrorbird as you run, and when all four are lit, go to the centre of the dungeon and open the Burnt chest that contains a key. The lamps will burn out if you take too long. If you walk, the first lamp will burn out by the time you reach the chest.

Blood Diamond

Posted by runescape

Items needed for this section: Garlic, Silver bar, Spice, Pestle and mortar, lobsters or better food, Prayer potions (not recommended to bring more than four as it will take up valuable food space), Druid pouches (optional), runes to cast magic (fire bolt will suffice), magic armour

  • Travel to Canifis pub and a cutscene will occur. Talk to Malak in the pub and ask him all available questions and he will tell you that a lord vampire named Dessous has the blood diamond and Malak will give you a list of items that you need to draw him forth and weaken him.
  • Garlic: Travel to Draynor, get garlic if you need it upstairs in a cupboard from the house where you started the Vampire Slayer quest and take the garlic. Then use a pestle and mortar on the garlic to get garlic powder.
  • Silver pot: Take a silver bar into the small dungeon just northwest of Draynor bank (located on mini-map). Talk to Ruantun in the dungeon (the trapdoor is located near the jail) and he will make you a silver pot.
  • Get it blessed: Take the pot to and get it blessed by the High Priest in the church on Entrana to make a blessed pot. If you forgot this step, you can have the pot blessed later.
  • Fill it with blood: Travel back to Canifis and talk to Malak again, he will fill the pot with blood (your blood!). When he does this, you will lose 5 Hitpoints. Make sure you have more than 5 hitpoints before talking to him.
  • Spices: You need to use a pestle and mortar with the garlic and add it to the pot, along with some spice - the Ardougne Spice Stall or the Culinaromancer’s Chest are the best places to get this. Gnome spice and coloured spice do not work for this quest.
  • (Note: that if you forgot to bless your pots, the High Priest will still bless it when it is full of blood - although he will be slightly shocked!)
  • Travel through the swamps to the graveyard. You should take with you:
  1. Weapon, armour and possibly runes, depending on how you are going to fight. See below for strategies.
  2. Blessed pot with blood, garlic and spice
  3. 10-20 Druid pouches - see Nature Spirit quest. (optional)
  4. Emergency escape such as the Ectophial
  5. Lobsters or better food.
  • Once you arrive at the graveyard, pour the blood on the tomb and Dessous will appear.

Enchanting the mirrors

Posted by runescape

Items needed for this section: Shantay Pass (or 100 coins), 650 coins for Bandit’s Brew, Waterskins (optional), Ashes, 1 Blood rune, Bones, Charcoal, 6 Molten glass, 12 Magic logs, 6 Steel bars. Using an Amulet of glory and Digsite pendant saves travel time. You can also use the Broomstick from the Swept Away quest. This will take you to the Sorceress’s Garden, near to the Shantay Pass. You will want to return to a bank after this section. OPTIONAL: Waterskin (4), knife, a weapon/armour

  • Travel through the Shantay Pass south of Al-Kharid (make sure to bring or buy a Shantay Pass) and then travel south-west (either via the Magic carpet, or walking/running) to the Bedabin camp. Talk to the archaeologist, Asgarnia Smith, who is very close to the magic carpet stop. He will give you etchings to take to the expert at the Digsite.
  • Travel to the Exam centre south-east of Varrock and talk to the Archaeological Expert inside w. He will take the etchings. Talk to him a 2nd time right afterwards to gain a Translation Book to take back to the archaeologist.
  • Go back to the archaeologist in the desert. Make sure to take 650 coins. Talk to him and agree to split the treasure 50/50.
  • Go south to the bandit camp (do not wear Zamorak or Saradomin clothing, as bandits attack Zamorak and Saradomin supporters) - it’s not far. Talk to the barman there, buy a drink (Bandit’s Brew) for 650 coins and find out about the four Diamonds of Azzanadra.
  • Talk to Eblis who is east of the general store. He will tell you that he needs various items to enchant some mirrors:
Image Name
Image:Ashes.PNG Ashes
Image:Blood Rune.PNG 1 Blood rune
Image:Bones.png 1 Bones
Image:Charcoal.png 1 Charcoal
Image:Molten glass.PNG 6 Molten glass
Image:MagicLogs.png 12 Magic logs
Image:Steel bar.gif 6 Steel bars
  • Go back to the bank at Shantay Pass, and withdraw the items. (Note: It is possible to bring most of the items in noted form, except the Charcoal, which needs to be unnoted. Noting them can keep from accidentally burying bones instead of giving them to him).
  • Return to Eblis, and use the items on him one by one. He will not take them if you talk to him. Eblis may disappear after you give him the items, or you may have to speak to him before he heads to the mirrors. He will reappear a little to the south-east on top of a hill with mirrors.
  • Talk to Eblis again at the hill. The mirrors aren’t perfect, however, as they show where the diamonds have been at one time. Because of this, two of the mirrors show other locations - the Bedabin camp and the Pyramid itself, but you need to acquire the diamonds from the other locations first. You may attempt the diamonds in any order.
  • Note: At some point in the quest, you may be attacked by a level 95 Stranger who carries a Dragon dagger. He will follow the closest person to him and can’t be attacked by anyone except the diamond holder. This is random and does not happen to everyone. In general though, he’s easy. He will not come if you are not carrying the diamonds.

When you start out, you are not going to be able to make loads of money with skills. Nevertheless, do not fear. There are some jobs out there for even the new players. Yes, if you want to make money in the beginning you are going to have to find some jobs in order to pay for things you want, just as in the real world. Some players are very busy and would rather pay someone to gather the items they need or want instead of doing all the work themselves. This is a great way to make some quick coins. With some jobs, you may even gain a few levels, such as killing cows and gathering their hides. The more you kill, the more levels you gain along with more money.

Though the players usually will not pay loads of money, it’s a start. Another runescape job would be a cook. More and more members are getting houses and thus they need some help in their huge house. So, if you were to stand outside the house portal and offer your services, then you might get hired as a cook or some other type of help. The bigger the house the richer the player. (remember this so you don’t get ripped off but also remember that these are just simple jobs and won’t pay too much.)

Another good idea for a job would be a farmer. If you get with a friend that’s working as a cook in someone’s house, you can supply him or her with the items needed to fix all kinds of meals. Would you like a couple recipes?

One of the main things you will be making is tea. It’s fun to make and easy to make. All of the things you will need will be in the kitchen (unless they don’t have something but most of the time everything you need is there.) Another good item to make is Scrambled Eggs. Take an egg and a bowl. Put the egg in the bowl and cook it. Cakes are also good. You will need an egg, flower, milk and a cake tin. Put all the ingredients in the cake tin and cook it. Cook all of these and you have a really good meal.

Being a chef is a really fun job, and so is being a farmer. A cook is more of a fast-paced job, while being a farmer is more calm and relaxing. (On the hand, sometimes it can get boring.) My favorite spot to farm is north of Port Sarim, behind the cabbage patch. It’s nice and quite and the people there are usually nice. Tip: Put your weeds in the compost bin and make some good fertilizer for your crops. I like to mix a couple weeds in, with some tomatoes and potatoes. It’s not like super compost but it works well. Also, plant some marigolds. They will protect your potato and tomato plants from disease.

There are lots of different jobs out there to be had. Some make more money than others do, but a lot of them are fun. Remember, if you like the job you are doing it goes a lot faster and you can make a lot more money.

A couple more jobs that might interest you would be to become a thief and steal from the computers. You can make a fair amount of money from this, unless your beaten to death by the farmer. Nevertheless, once you get past pick-pocketing, move on to stalls. You can make a lot more money with stalls than pick pocketing.

The fifth chapter of my Runescape money making guide.

Another great way to profit is to visit various shops located within Runescape. We will touch on a few of these in this chapter. The goal is to find items in demand, or rare items.

You will want to buy common items from shops, and then resell them high to other players. If you are a member there are certain shops in Runescape that only sell items to members, and the good thing is that many of these items can be used by F2P players.

Rune Shops (F2P and Members)

This will work in any Rune shop for any level. (However, if you have access to the Magic Guild, you can literally make millions in minutes!) When you visit the rune shops you are looking for high volumes of runes that are in stock.

Mostly Death, Law, Cosmic, Chaos, Mind… any rune that is used greatly by mages. Mages rely on runes to play and gain experience. The best place I have found to sell Runes in large quantities is to visit the WizardTower and head up to the 3rd floor. On this floor is the caged Lesser De- mon, the are normally tons of mages here as this is the prime spot to level and gain magic experience for all levels

When you arrive just ask if anyone needs runes, or if they are running low. Mages hate to interrupt there training, and love it when they can find ?runners? to go get runes for them.

I personally am a mage and I actually have hired ?runners? to run back and forth from Varrock and other towns to buy runes from the shop, and I pay them 2-3 times more than they have purchased them for. This is just an example of how this can work.

Always remember to change worlds to try and sell your runes. You may also wish to take orders.

If you choose to do this, just write down what everyone wanted, (write down there username and how much of whatever runes they want- ed) Once you have this information, simply visit the rune shop purchase the runes (switch worlds to find more runes in stock.)

Tip: The more of an item in stock the less is costs. So watch the price, when it increases to high, switch worlds, over time the stock will regenerate, then you can come back and continue to buy.

Caniffs Clothes Shop (Member)

Have you ever wondered wear those colored gloves come from? Well here they are. This is another EASY way to make a quick profit. This shop houses many different colored robes, boot, and gloves. Red, Teal, Gold, Gray…

You may choose to only sell gloves, this is up to you. I always choose to buy complete outfits. (Gloves, Boots, Robes). Once you have bought what you would like to sell, log into a members world and go to the Varrock Marketplace.
