RS2 Launched!

Posted by runescape

It’s finally here, the RS2 beta has ended. And you can start playing it for real! We have reset everyone’s RS2 saves for the last time, so from now on all that you do and everything you gain in the new game will permanently affect your real character.
Here’s how the launch works. We’ve changed the original plan slightly, so please read this carefully:

We have decided to copy your stats to both games. So you will have all your stats and abilities in both RS1 and RS2. You can play each game whenever you wish, using the same username/password. Skills you gain in one game will not affect the other game in any way. So if you’re going to put some effort into levelling up we recommend you do so on the game you most want to stick with.

We have moved your items to RS2. So you will find all your armour/money etc. is all on your RS2 character, and you (currently) have no items on RS1. We can’t just copy the items because it causes big problems with the economy if we do. However we will shortly be introducing a temporary webpage that lets you move items between the two games, so if you want to keep playing RS1 you will be able to move some or all of your items back. There will be a further news post explaining this in detail when it is ready. The only thing you need to bear in mind right now is that your items have NOT been duplicated. You only have one of each, so don’t go throwing away items in RS2 that you might later want in RS1.

RS2 has been renamed to ‘RuneScape’. This is to reflect that it is now the main RuneScape game. It is this main game which affects your hiscore, and this is where further updates and improvements will be focused. To play just press ‘Play game’ at the top of the main webpage.

RS1 has been renamed to RS-Classic and moved to it’s own separate section. This will be brought back online later today if everything goes to plan. This is being kept as a bit of history so people can see what the game used to look like, and for players who prefer a simpler non-changing game. Take a look at the RS-Classic pages for more details.

Apart from that we hope you enjoy the new improved game! It’s taken an incredible effort from everyone here to get it to this point, and we hope you enjoy playing it as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it

Many thanks to everyone who has been helping us load test RS2 over the last few days. This testing has helped me discover that it was in fact lagging more than it should do, particularly when large numbers of players were on a world at once.I am pleased to announce I have just fixed that problem, which should make RS2 significantly less laggy. It should now be able to handle far far more players before it starts slowing down.

Also the code which sends the new game files to you when the game is updated has been improved. So updates should now download much more quickly too.

Wilderness and Real-World Trading Q&A

Following on from Mark Gerhard’s responses to some of your questions, Andrew has written his answers to questions about the Wilderness and real-world trading.

Q) 10 Mill 4 – Why did you remove the wilderness?
A) I didn’t want to change the Wilderness, but unfortunately there really was no choice. It was a case of either doing that or suffering even worse consequences down the line. There’s a very detailed explanation of the events and reasoning that led to the changes here.

Q) Andr987 - Would you classify removing the wilderness as a mistake?
A) This is a question I have asked myself over and over again over the last year.

But even after a whole year of thinking about it, and asking: ‘Should I have done it differently?’ we still haven’t come up with a better remedy.

It really was the only solution. I genuinely believe that if we hadn’t acted when we did that RuneScape wouldn’t exist anymore. The botting, RWT and credit card fraud problem was growing rapidly. If we hadn’t taken action, then it would have gone beyond any possible remedy. Given a further year without action, RuneScape today would be in far worse state than at the height of the RWT problem. There would be bots everywhere you looked, and that’s assuming we hadn’t gone bankrupt from credit card fines and our hard working players leaving because the game lost integrity and they couldn’t access resources. If I could go back in time a year, I would make the same decision again. (Although I certainly would have implemented PvP worlds BEFORE making the other changes, I do think that we launched the PvP worlds far too late.)

Q) Vader7666 - Any chance you guys can admit to ruining the game by removing the wilderness and adding the trade limit?
A) See answer above. I don’t believe we ruined the game, I believe we saved the game and ensured a future for RuneScape.

Q) Fishaddock - are you going to bring back the wild?
A) The wild still exists. If you head north from Edgeville you will find it is still there :), I assume what you really mean to ask is “are you going to bring back PvP?”. In which case I would say: “We already have!” Over the last year we have released a huge amount of PvP content in response to this request. Updates like: Bounty Hunter, Duel Tournaments, Fist of Guthix, Stealing Creation, PvP worlds and Soul Wars. There is more PvP than ever. Even then we don’t consider it ‘done’. Lots of the games can (and will) be further improved.

Of course having said that, we DO need to make content for our non-PvP players as well! Over the last year a huge percentage of our development effort has gone into PvP content, and it’s not fair to neglect our non-PvP players. We are going to keep working on PvP, but the future focus will be on improving and tweaking the PvP games we have already made. We really appreciate the feedback you have been giving us on how to improve these games and make them feel like a good upgrade. We’ve noticed some pretty good suggestions already coming through in the recent ‘questions’ threads, and are seriously considering these now. Personally, I’m particularly keen to make the Duel tournaments work better as they have been a bit disappointing.

Q) Heavenlyevil - Do you intend to remain ’strong’ and prevent RWTers from ruining the game despite people constantly requesting the Wilderness to be ‘returned’?
A) Absolutely.

Q) Kiper1 - What else will be done to combat Real World Trading (such as using junk to transfer gold between accounts, or people using bounty hunter to transfer money)?
A) I don’t consider junk trading a problem. I am actually quite happy that it is making those ‘junk’ items perceived as more valuable. It doesn’t allow real-world trading, but does let people do the trades they want. I see it as a good thing! Bounty Hunter is going to be further tweaked.

Q) Xxx R4ng3d - Bring Wildy back, it hasn’t stopped RWT at all has it!?
A) Whilst there is still some RWT going on (and probably always will be), RWT is now MASSIVELY reduced. In terms of stopping RWT, what we did was a huge undeniable success - botting, RWT, and credit card fraud are all at some of the lowest levels I have ever seen. Indeed, it was even more successful at reducing the problem than I had hoped for. There is still some, of course, and we have ongoing work to do to keep closing loopholes. We still ban people for botting and RWT, and are going to be upping the action we take against the few remaining culprits shortly.

Q) Stonepiloit3 - Doesn’t RWT even help profits of RuneScape? This is a theoretical assumption, but I’d guess about 75% of all good items worth RWTrading would be members, making money for Jagex in members subscriptions. And really, less then half of the people in RuneScape can afford/want to buy items like that.
A) Unfortunately not. The fact that many of the gold sellers used stolen credit cards means it had the exact opposite effect. Sadly, they didn’t just stop at breaking the game rules, they also broke real-world laws.

Q) Eb737 - what propositions for change have you got for the trading system?
A) There is nothing huge planned at the moment. We will of course be keeping an eye out for ideas on how to make it even better, (but never such that it allows RWT.)

Q) Samrulz432 - You have bought a type of pking back called pvp, but many people would like pvp to just be in the wild. you could also have worlds where it is worldwide pking, and a couple with just wild pking?
A) I like this idea :) I’ll discuss this with the content team in more detail.

Q) Examine Nut - Is there a way to swap money from one account to another and not break rules?
A) No.

Q) S0ul 0n Fire - Why is the 10%+5 included in the wildy,on pvp servers?
A) We wanted to keep the mechanic where the wilderness is a more dangerous place, and where the deeper into the wildy you go the more dangerous it gets. So whilst it is 10%+5 on most the map, as you go into the wildy it gets more dangerous still.

Q) Pure Ftw Kai - Can you bring back the old Staking rules?
A) We can’t bring back the *exact* old staking rules without reintroducing all the problems we originally set out to remedy. However we can hopefully still improve duelling a bit. I’m particularly keen on improving the Duel Tournaments, which are supposed to give the ‘high excitement, high reward’ that staking gave, but I admit they aren’t working quite right at the moment and need revisiting.

Q) Crycket - will we ever be able to give our friends “presents” again?
A) Well, you can already give your friends small presents, but not huge ones. The assist system was also intended to be a way people can help their friends. I’m also looking for more ways that people can help (and surprise) each other as long as it can’t be abused. One idea I’m currently mulling over is a way that we can let our players who organise in-game events give prizes to the winners. I’ve got a few ideas on how we might do that, but it needs more thought yet.

Q) B4w13 - Will you be improving PvP, full drops and more wilderness features!

Merchants’ Guide To Making Money

V. List of Items and prices
———————————————————————————————-

III. Preperations

First of all, the easiest way to start out is to either have a friend smith you a mith 2h, or to get 5k.

If you get a mith 2h, go to a world with a bunch of people in Varrok square. Dont go to world 1 or any other world that is packed. Go to a world that is about 2/3-3/4 full. Go to to the square and just type “selling mith 2h”. People always want to buy them cause they go pking and lose them. Always wait to get at least 3 offers. Then choose the highest one, or if they aren’t high enough, try to get a price you want. 8-10k is a good price(but you may only get 6-7k witch is good too). Then later after the person leave, buy a m2h for about 2k less than what you sold it for.

That is about the easiest way to start out.

———————————————————————————————-

IV. Getting Better

Now, after you have gotten about 30k with the mith 2h’s, go and buy 2 dimond ammies(10k each), and 2 ruby ammies(5k each). now go to the same place as where you sold the mith 2h’s. BE strick on the Dimond ammies and sell them 12k each, but if offered better, take it. For the Ruby ones, it doesn’t matter as much and can be sold at any price over 5.5k. now keep buying and selling these untill you have about 50k.

Now you can get more money since you have experence and money. Buying and selling rune 2h’s!

Rune 2h’s are in high demand, and cheep ! First with your 50k, buy a r2h for 40k (if they sell less/more than that tell me someone, the rs economy is horrible these days….). now, sell it for 45k, this is very easy to do since people are always buying and selling them. This is most easily done on world 1. in about an hour you can get 100k if you work hard enough. For further Items to buy/sell, keep reading.

Unbeleivably Massive Ways To Make RS Money

Your positon: Home - Runescape Gold Guide - Unbeleivably Massive Ways To Make RS Money
Unbeleivably Massive Ways To Make RS Money
First off, there are many ways of making money on runescape, but all of these take patience and time. For most occasions, depending on which skill (you may not be using a skill) to use money, the higher the level of the skill, the more money you will profit from it. There are also other ways to make money, (misc.) that do may not require any skill levels. Yet, most of these take time.

Credits: 1.1 - fletching
1.2 - woodcutting
1.3 - crafting
1.4 - monster killing
1.5 - merchanting
1.6 - herblore
1.7 - thieving
1.8 - fishing/cooking
1.9 - mining
2.0 - smithing
2.1 - pking
2.2 - dueling

Fletching -

Fletching is a very profitable skill in runescape, but primarily at the higher levels.
To start off fletching, you can only make shafts which sell roughly 9-20 each depending on quantity. Each time you cut a log (with a knife) you will receive 15 arrow shafts in return, you can either sell these, make headless arrows with them and sell, or lastly make complete arrows to sell. You cut a full inventory of logs roughly 1-3 minutes, so making 420 shafts every 2 minutes(roughly), so that would be 12.6k shafts an hour, but would be more like 11k shafts with the decrease of the bank run. This is actually a decent way of making money, its just not many people have thought of it. Making 70-100k an hour (merchanting, time included). Attaching feathers to these would make them sell for 5-15gp more, it would be same profit basically, unless you went and collected the feathers. Lastly, you could attach arrow heads to these. To get a full inventory of copper\tin(13 of each), you would take about 5 minutes of mining/running to bank. This means that, with an additional 1-2 minutes of running to smelt\smith, that you would get 195 bronze arrow tips. attach these to the feathered shafts, so an estimate of 8 minutes per every 195 bronze arrows complete. These will sell 5-20 each, so about 8k per 8 minutes (minus time to get arrows and feathers). At the higher level, you will start to be able to make yew long bows (level 70 to make). Cutting yews, you get approx. 200-400 per hour. Also, you could gather strings, getting about 500-750 an hour, or just buy them 90-100 each, but never go higher than 100. combining this, you get 400 yews an hour, and say you buy(most popular choice) 5k strings for 500k. This means after about 12 hours you will have 5k yews. After fletching and stringing all of these, it will take about 3-4 hours if VERY focused. And of course after alching, it will have taken another 1-2 hours depending on focusness. So a total of 17 hours, earning ~~3.5 mil. (Saying you bought the nats 350 each, with a 15 minute decrease of merchant time. This means a net profit of ~~1.7 mil plus good mage and fletching, and woodcutting experience. You can use this formula to find out how many and how much money for hour you will get with yew long bows. For mage logs, at any level you chop a full load 13-17 minutes. We will approximate this to 15. Then, saying you get 1k mage logs, this will use up about 525 minutes. Equaling 8.75 hours spent on chopping 1k magic logs. After that, you can buy 1k strings, for 100k. (5 minutes merchanting time spent). After this is done, to string and cut the logs, it would take about 1 and a half hours. In total, thats 10.3 hours spent. Then to buy the nats 350 each(20 minute merchant time), then you high alch for 1,536gp per magic long bow. Alching them will take 3-4 seconds per alch, so taking 66 minutes, (1 hour and 6 minutes). After 11.7 hours, you have made 1.2 million, so about 102,564gp an hour.

Woodcutting C

First of all, to start chopping a tree, you are required to have an axe.
The first trees: normal trees, money rate: poor

Getting full loads in 3 minutes, you can get 560 normal logs an hour. If you find a nice buyer for 50 each, you can sell for ~25k.

Oak trees:
Money rate: very poor

Chopping a full load of oaks south of seers bank, with 60 woodcut and rune hatchet, would take about 1-2 minutes. Meaning 840 oaks an hour. The one problem is, nobody buys oaks, so might as well burn or fletch them.

Willow trees:
Money rate: Ok

Saying you have 70 woodcutting, you can chop willow full loads, in roughly 1-3 minutes. Meaning about 840 an hour, depending on focus ness. In free worlds, these normally sell 20 each, for the point of cost, I would just burn them or save them to fletch for members.
Then, if you are members, you could probably find a 50 each buyer, so that means 42k an hour.

Maple trees:
Money rate: Ok

Most people over rate maple trees, thinking that the price of log will get good profit, but you dont chop these near as fast as willows. At a woodcut level of 90, I can chop about a load in 2 minutes tops. So lets say 4 minutes a load(for a lvl 60 cutter). This means around 420 logs an hour, which is a mere 42k

Yew logs:
Money rate: good
Chopping yew logs at level 90 cutting, I can get loads in around 3 minutes, normally 5 minutes. With this, you can get about 336 logs per hour, and if you get a buyer 300 each, thats 108k per hour.

Magic logs: Very good

These can be gathered, at 15 minutes per 28 logs, this equals up to 112 logs an hour, and if you get a buyer 1k each, thats a steady 112k an hour.

The best spots to chop:

Normal logs:

Lumbridge swamp, or the area between Seers village and Catherby.

Oak logs:

The 2 oak trees directly south of Seers bank. After you cut one down, the other one goes up, and Im pretty sure these respawn quicker than normal trees.

Willow logs:

Directly west of Catherby, or south of draynor bank.

Maple logs:

Outside the bank of seers.

Yew logs:

South of the flax fields in seers, seers cemetery, behind castle in varrock, and south of falador.

Mage logs:

South-west of catherby, and in the courtyard in the Sorcerers Tower.

1.3 Crafting

Crafting is a low down skill at earlier, levels, and like all skills, the big bucks come at the higher levels. To start off you need cow hides; most leveling crafters buy these, so selling to them is good.

NOTE* since crafting is much more elaborate on members, sell cow hides only on member servers.

You can sell cow hides on free worlds 10-50 each, and 200-400 each on members. Killing a cow approx. every 12 seconds, you can get a full load(28) you get a full load in 420 seconds(7 minutes). This means that you can get 238 cow hides in an hour, selling 200 each = 47.6k

Gems:

Uncut sapphire normally go around 200-500gp each cut, and around 300-750 each cut, depending on quantity the price can rise or decrease. So obviously, there is no point buying uncut then cutting and selling, unless craving for crafting experience.
Also note that gold bars are 100-200 each (ore or bar), and this is a basic ingredient for making jewelry. So saying you bought 1 sapphire 400gp, and the gold bar for 200gp, and any type of mold for 5gp. This totals in 605gp. Next, taking about 20 seconds (saying you are at fallador eastern bank). Then, you choose if you want a ring, necklace, or amulet. After you make an amulet, it can be enchanted (using a cosmic rune), to make a magic amulet. The only problems with these are that nobody usually buys, and if they do it would be for 1 k-1.5k each. If you want profit, the best bet is to sell these to the story for around 600gp (??). This ends up in 0 profits, and actually a loss because you could have earned more in that time doing something else. For necklaces, these can be enchanted into games necklaces (8 charges), but yet this will result in the same problem above, nobody wanting to buy. But if you do manage to find a buyer, they usually sell 1-2k each. If sold to the store, its about the same as an amulet but a tad bit less. Rings, these are enchanted into rings of recoil, which are the best profit maker of sapphires. After making rings of recoils, you will sell them. These sell for 3k-6k each, or higher and lower depending on quantity. This is the best profit gainer of sapphires, costing about 7k and about 10 seconds to make a full one(walk time not included), you can earn 6.3k with selling time of only about 5 minutes or less.
Emeralds, the second gem up from sapphires, and then 2nd lowest on the rank of rarity or scarcity, obviously ending up in 2nd lowest in price.

Emeralds can be bought 600-1.5k uncut, and 400-1k cut. Just like any gem, they can be made into 3 different types of jewelry. Most of these are unpopular and have low demand, except sometimes the ring of dueling (8) can be sold for profitable prices.
Emerald necklaces and amulets (defense), should either just be kept or sold to the general store for around 700-900gp. The ring of duelings however, can be sold from prices ranging from 500-5k at times. (Use the formula above to find an estimate of the profit per hour). (5 min merchant time, can vary as usual).

Rubies can be bought 800-2k uncut, 600-1.75k cut. Unlike the emerald or sapphire, this is more profitable with amulets (strength). The strength amulet is sold for 2-10k, as is very profitable. The necklace for about 800gp to the store, and the ring (forging), for 2-5k. (Use the formula above for per hour rate.) (5-10 minute merchant time can vary though).

Diamonds can be bought 1k-4k uncut, 1k-4k cut. These can be made into diamond amulets (power), rings of life, and diamond necklaces.
The most profitable is either the amulets or rings. Rings would be more profitable, since low merchant time unlike the amulet. Rings sell for 5-10k, amulet sells for 5-15k. Amulet has an estimated 10-20 minute merchant time, ring 1-5 minute time. So obviously, choose the rings. (Also estimate per hour using the formula above stated in the sapphire section).

Dragon stone, being the most expensive, at 100k uncut or cut.
The dragon stone is tricky, because in most causes it creates no profit.
It can be made into a ring of wealth, d-necklace, and a glory ammy, which can be charged to get (4).

The ring of wealth is very hard to sell, but sells for 95-105k, should be rather used for its own owner.

The glory ammy sells for 100k, but with charges can go up to 120k.

The merchant time can be very high or very low, often to risky to take the chance to merchant these. Might as well use the glory or wealth for your own cause.

Dragonhides!

Green dragon:

These can be gathered at many different points in the wilderness, so yes there is a risk on getting these. Killing 1 dragon a minute, you can get 60 hides in an hour. These hides range from 1-2k in value. So if you sold these you are getting around 60-100k an hour with running/teleporting time. Or the other option, to craft these. The full set requires 63 crafting, so make sure you have that first. Then you should rather make full sets than sell separately (making all one item then trying to sell). If you dont want to run around selling these for a while, lower the price to 10k. This way youre increasing the hides from ~1.5k to 3.3k per hide with the corresponding time merchanted.

Blue dragon:

These can be gathered at the Hero guild, yannile dungeon, and taverly dungeon.
These can be killed at 1 per minute or less or more. The hides they drop are 1.6-3k each, most normally 2k. This can rate up to 96-160k an hour, very profitable.
For the crafter, 71 crafting is a necessity. These sets sell 15-20k each, making the hides value rise from 2k C 5-6k. Yet this is very hard to sell, and might as well just sell the hides.

Red dragon:

These can be gathered in Karamja Dungeon, or lvl 40ish wildy in the red lava maze.
These sell 3k-4k per, also note these are rather rare. Full sets sell 50-80k, so it can be worth it. You kill about 1 per 2 min, equaling in 30 an hour. So 90k-110k if you sell the hide.
Or for the crafter you can make full sets at level 77. This would rise the dragon hides worth from 3.5k C 20-30k. You would think this is good money but it is difficult to sell.

Black Dragon:

These can be killed at lvl 46 wildy (kbd, not sure if they drop though), and Taverly Dungeon. You kill about 2 per minute, obviously 30 per hour. These also sell 2-4k each.
So this would be 60-100k an hour, with a long walking distance. Crafting these require level 84 crafting. Making full sets sell for 20-30k a set, so not really a profit. This would mean the 2-4k C 6-10k per. These are hard to sell though, so I would stay off these, and stick to blue or green.

Purple Phats 7-8 8.1-8.5
Yellow Phats 9-9.5 10-10.5
Green Phats 11-11.5 12-12.5
Red Phats 13-13.5 14-15
White Phats 16-16.4 17
Blue Phats 18-18.3 19

So basically when you get something, anything, try to sell it high, rather than low. Also when you see a good deal, do it and resell for higher and profit.

1.6 Heblore C

In herblore, it is more like just merchanting really.

There are 15 different herbs, with different prices and potion results.
There are also roughly 12 second ingreidants.

Each of these have different herblore requirements to make potions..

The most popular potions are(with prices)

Prayer pots(4) C 2-5k per
Super Attack Pots (4) C 1-3k per]
Super Strength Pots (4) 2-5k per
Super Defense Pots (4) C 2-5k per
All of these together are aka super sets

Anti-fire Pots (4) C 3-8k per
Range Pots (4) C 5-10k per

Obviously just buy low and sell high, or start stock low build up and sell for higher since larger sell quantity.

Gathering Uni (short for Unidentified Herbs), can sell for 1-2k each, for nice profit gain per hour.

The best place to get these is by killing chaos druids(level 13, 19health I think), in level 2-4 Edgeville Dungeon.

By killing 1 of these every 20 seconds, you can get 3k a minute. Multiply that by 60 you have 180k per hour. Then descrease the run time, to get an estimated 150k an hour.
Though note, some may only buy rannar and above for ex.
This means that the money rate will go down since a lot of these uni herbs you get tend to be guams, marrentills, and tarromin.

1.8 Fishing/cooking

Fishing and cooking are grouped together, since if you sell raw ones, they are going to cook them!

At levels 1-20, your best bet is shrimp to level 20.
The best place to do this is at al-kharid, right by the bank..just drop the shrimp or deposit for cooking xp needed to cook better foods that give better money.

After you hit level 20, you can cook trout.
The best place to do this, is south of edgeville bank, on the east side of barbarian village.
There are 2 fishing spots, so no problem with the spots disappearing since you can just merge to the other spot.
You will get approximately 26 fish(trout), (not 28 since you have fly rod and feathers with you).
These sell 20-40 each raw, 20-30 each cooked.
Getting approximately 1 trout every 8 seconds(varies depending on fishing level of course, this is on an average of about 55).
This will get you 3.4 minute loads. This equals about 17.6 loads an hour.
This equals up to 467.6 trout an hour, rounding to 450 with load running time.
Selling at 30 each raw, equals 13k an hour.

If you cook this, you can cook about 1 per 4 seconds.

Making A Defence Pure

Posted by coco

There are three things to keep in mind when coming up with a name. They are, originality, simplicity and likeness (if that’s even a word).

You want an original name, because copying someone else’s name will not make you look good. Also, in my case, when I copy someone else’s name, I come to not like it later. So choose a name that you can stick with ’til the end.

Another thing that is significant in making a name, is the simplicity of it. The reason a simple name is often a good name, is that people will remember you much more easily. Names like Def noob23912 or Defil3d320 are hard to remember. So if you plan on being the best of the best, make your name simple so people will remember you.

Finally, the most important factor in a name, you need to like the name. If you’re anything like me and create an account with a name that you’re not so crazy about, you’ll regret it forever.

II. Equipment for training.

Weapons

There are only a few weapons to choose from when making a defense pure because you’ll only have 1 attack. These are Iron dagger, Iron scimitar, Red topaz machete and Silverlight.

Iron Scimitar

The iron scimitar is the best f2p weapon to train with. It’s fast and fairly accurate.

Red Topaz Machete

A Red topaz machete is the overall best weapon known for defense pures. It attacks just as fast as a scimitar or dagger, but has higher damage and accuracy.

Armor

Bronze - 1 Defense

Bronze is a very weak armor and should not be used because Iron gives better defense bonuses while having the same defense requirements.

Iron - 1 Defense

Another weak armor, but it is the best that you can use until 5 defense.

Steel - 5 Defense

This armor is still very weak compared to others, but it is the best that you can wear until 10 defense.

Black - 10 Defense

Black is an interesting armor because you cannot make it using the smithing skill. Also, some items only drop from monsters and are not sold at shops (for example, the black kite shield). Use this armor until 20 defense.

Mithril - 20 Defense

Now you’re getting to the good stuff. Mithril gives a medium defense bonus and requires 20 defense. A great thing about it, is it weighs less than other armor so you can preserve that precious energy for longer amount of time.

Adamant - 30 Defense

Adamant also gives a decent defense bonus. A cool thing about it, is that you can get it in trimmed or gold trimmed if you want to look fancy . Use this armor until 40 defense.

Rune - 40 Defense

Now we’re getting to the higher armors. Rune armor gives the best defense bonus for free to play worlds and some defense pures stop here. But we’re going to keep going! Use Rune armor until 60 defense.

Dragon and Obsidian - 60 Defense

Dragon armor is probably the prettiest armor (in my opinion ). It also gives a great defense bonus. And once again, a lot of defense pures stop here, but we’re going to continue to be the best. Use dragon armor until 65 or 70 defense. Depending on the amount of money you have to spend.

Third Age Melee - 65 Defense

Third Age armor comes from a long time ago. It gives a great defense bonus, but there’s a down side. It is amazingly expensive. It isn’t much better than dragon, so you can stick with dragon until 70 defense.

Bandos - 65 Defense

Bandos, like Third Age, is very expensive. It comes from the God Wars Dungeon and it’s melee bonuses are slightly lower than that of Third Age Melee armor. However, it makes up for this with much greater ranged defense bonus as well as some bonuses to strength and prayer. One thing to remember about Bandos equipement is that there is no helm or shield. Only torso, legs and boots.

Barrows - 70 Defense

Barrows is my personal favorite armor for defense pures and for any other type of character with 70 defense for that matter. There is a down side though. It needs to be repaired after every 15 hours of combat (and it costs a good amount to repair). The repair costs are listed below.

Keep in mind these are the repair costs when the item is at 0. You can repair it earlier for less.

Barrows Helms - 60,000 gp
Barrows Body Armor - 90,000 gp
Barrows Leg Armor - 80,000 gp
Barrows Weapons - 100,000 gp

Dragonfire Shield - 75 Defense

The Dragonfire Shield works wonders for defense pures. It allows them to stake and even PK with ease. What makes it so special is that it has a special attack. The special attack uses the fire from dragons to your advantage. What you must do is charge the shield by having dragons use their fiery breath attack on it. Once it is fully charge you may “operate” it to unleash the fire on an opponent.

BEWARE! The Dragonfire Shield will give magic experience if you use the special attack on a monster. So only use the special attack on other players if you want to continue as a defense pure.

For more information on the Dragonfire Shield visit these links: Runescape Knowledge Base or Zybez Item Database

Statius and Vesta - 20/78 Defense

This is another ancient type of armor that is found on PVP worlds. I would not reccomend this armor to a defense pure unless you are pking with an dragonfire shield. These armors give HUGE defense bonuses while being less expensive than bandos and third age. How can this be? Well these armors come with a big catch. They will last only 15-60 minutes depending on whether they have full requirements or not. Their defense requirements will also vary depending on their state. If they come with full requirements they’ll require 78 defense to equip, and the other with require 20 defense.

Note: I’m not sure if these will degrade outside of combat or not. If anyone does know this, please post about it.

Sacred Clay - 1/80 Defense

This is a great option for training, but might take a while to obtain. So you need to decide whether or not its worth getting. Sacred Clay armor comes in 5 different varieties (classes) and each class requires a different level and gives different bonuses:

Class 1: no defense requirement
Class 2: 20 Defense
Class 3: 40 Defense
Class 4: 60 Defense
Class 5: 80 Defense

The special thing about sacred clay equipment is that it provides you with 2x the experience if you train with it. However as you train with it, the armor will degrade.

For more information on this armor visit: Stealing Creation (Knowledge Base Article)

III. Training spots. (monster info taken from Zybez.net)

1-10 Defense:

The ideal monster to train on for these levels is Chicken (level-3). There are many in one location, and they deal no damage (no matter what defense level you have)

Combat: 3
Hitpoints: 3
Race: Animal
Members: No
Quest: No
Nature: Not Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee
Examine: Yep definitely a chicken.

THIS SECTION IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, SINCE MONKS ARE NO LONGER THE ONLY TRAINING SPOT YOU’LL NEED. For the most part, any low level monster with a decent amount of hitpoints will do well for a def pure.

Also, pest control is the fastest place to train. However, in order to get into pest control with all other combat stats at 1, you’ll need around 85 defense (to meet the level 40 minimum requirement).

IV. Helpful quests.

At the moment there are no quests that can be easily done on a defense pure that give defense experience. So this section will be coming soon…

V. Avoiding Trouble

1. While training your defense pure, you may be tempted to leave your computer. However, this is against JaGeX rules and is dangerous because of random events. I believe that it is allowed to browse other web pages while training though.

2. Once you’ve become a pretty good defense pure, with say… 40 – 70 defense, you will want to show off with fancy armor or items. Be Careful! A well known *sort of defense pure* named Defil3d, got killed by an Evil Chicken and lost hundreds of millions of GPs worth in items (including a white partyhat).

3. While training anywhere, I guarantee that there will be people coming and flaming you for not killing the monk fast enough. Just add them to your ignore list, because it isn’t worth getting banned. Especially if you’ve got over 40 def and have already spent all that time on your account.

VI. Tips and tricks.

1. If you’re using your defense pure for staking/PKing, be sure to use a poisoned dagger. It can deal 6 damage, which can ultimately be the difference between life and death in some cases.

2. If you are lucky enough to stick with your pure and reach 75 defense, I recommend buying a Dragonfire shield. The shield has a special attack which can deal 20+ damage. It is a sure fire way to win a stake.

3. For training, an amulet that gives extra accuracy bonus is better than one that gives a strength bonus. Therefore, Amulet of Power is better than Amulet of Strength (f2p) and Amulet of Fury is better than Amulet of Glory (p2p).

4. A good way to get an extra 500 or so experience per hour, is bringing an inventory full of Strength and Attack potions. They’ll put you up to 4 strength and attack and an inventory can last for up to an hour. (tip submitted by M_T_I_G)

VII. Questions and Answers

Q: How long will it take to get from 1-40 defense?
A: Approximately 30 hours. It differs depending on your playing time per day and your training weapon.

Q: Couldn’t I just train on monks from 1-99 defense?
A: Yes, it is possible. However, from 1-10 defense, the monks will hit very often, so I suggest getting black armor before training there. It is no longer possible to train efficiently on monks, because they DO NOT heal themselves anymore.

Q: Can a defense pure wear Dragon sq. shield?
A: No. Legends quest requires 50 strength to complete. So, Dragon. Sq shield is out of the question. An alternative would be an Obsidian shield.

Q: Is there any way to make a defense pure with 9 or 10 hits, in order to have a lower than normal combat level?
A: Yes, in fact Sid Viicious was the first (or one of the first) to go for 60 defense with 10 hits. What you need to do is train your defense solely with genie lamps, books of knowledge and penguins.

Q: What are the defense requirements for Third Age Melee armor?
A: Third Age Melee armor requires 65 defence to wield.

Q: Are defense pures actually good for staking or Pking?
A: Yes. They are good stakers once you reach about 60 defense. However, in order to Pk with them, I advise that you have a Dragonfire Shield which requires 75 defense. This is because a Dragonfire Shield can hit 20+ and without it, there’s no way to k.o. someone.

Yak Training

Posted by coco

This is my first guide, so be nice. No flaming, only constructive criticism and comments. Now I know what you’re probably thinking at this stage. “Why would anyone want to train at yaks?” Well, the reason is that yaks are actually very fast experience. If you read this whole guide you’ll find out why. Yaks are located in a small pen on the island of Neitiznot

======================

2.0 [ Requirements ]

To get to yaks, you need to have done Fremennik Trials, and have started Fremennik Isles.

To do these quests you must meet the following requirements:

1. 20 Construction
2. 40 Agility
3. 46 Crafting
4. 56 Woodcutting

======================

3.0 [ How to get there ]

Yaks are located on the Fremmnik island of Neitiznot. I have created a map of how to get there.
There are three main ways to get there. They all end up on the same path however.

1. Camalot teleport - Requires 45 magic. Teleport to camelot, then walk north until you reach the Fremmnik provinces.

2. House portal - If you own a house just outside Relleka use house teleport then walk outside and go north.

3. Enchanted Lyre - Teleport using the Enchanted Lyre from Fremmnik Trials and walk north-east to the gates, then follow the main route.

Once on Neitiznot go north along the path, following it east until you reach the gates to the village. Beside the village gates is a gate to the pen which holds the yaks.

======================

4.0 [ Yak stats and drops ]

In the field there are 6 Yaks. Each Yak has 50hp, and can each in turn give 200xp per kill. Each Yak has a waiting time of 5 SECONDS before it respawns. The fields are very quiet areas and rarely have anyone else, apart from a quester every now and again. They are combat level 22 and almost NEVER hit. I would fight these gladly all day skulled with all my best stuff on with 1hp. Thats how secure they are. They have no drops apart from 100% drops, which are: Yak hair, Yak meat, Yak hide and Bones.

Yak hide can be “cured” (5gp per hide) so it can be crafted into Yak hide armour. It is level 43 crafting to make Yak hide legs (1 cured hide, 32 crafting xp) and level 46 crafting to make Yak hide tops (2 cured hides, 32 crafting xp). Yak hair can be spun at a spinning wheel to make ropes (25 crafting xp).

Yak armour and stats:

======================

5.0 [ Inventory ]

What you should be wearing should not consist of defense. It should consist of attack bonus, and strength.

Helmet of Neitiznot > Bezerker Helmet
Abyssal Whip > Dragon Scimitar > Dragon Long
Fury Amulet > Glory Amulet > Power Amulet > Strength Amulet
Rune Defender > Obsidian Shield > Other Defenders
Bandos Top > Fighter Torso > Anything
Bandos Tassets > Anything
Barrows Gloves > Combat Bracelet > Any other gloves down to mith > Family Crest Gauntlets
Dragon Boots > Rune Boots > Climbing Boots > Addy Boots
Bezerker Ring > Warrior Ring > Any Ring
Fire Cape > Obsidian Cape > Legends Cape

In your inventory there is no need for food, however, I always like to keep food for random events. Super attack pots are only 1-2k per, so if you buy them they speed up training alot as they make you hit more often. It is always good to carry a Dragon Battle Axe for specials, so you get some strength bonus.

======================

6.0 [Ranging]

When ranging Yaks you can easily stand outside and range away at them. The–Corrupt did us all a favour and checked the amount of experiance an hour you get with iron knives.

QUOTE (The–Corrupt @ Jul 29 2007, 05:45 AM)
Just timed myself. 59,732 xp in one hour using iron knives, range potted with 97 range.

Robin > Blessed Coif > Archer Helm > Snakeskin bandana > Coif
Mage Shortbow = Knives = Darts
(Iron > Steel > Bronze (Iron is best as they are cheapest projectiles))
Fury Amulet > Glory Amulet > Power Amulet
Unholy Book > Book of Balance
Karils/Black dragonhide > 3rd Age Range Armour > Other dragonhide in decending order
Barrows Gloves > Black dragonhide vambs > 3rd Age vambs > Other dhide vambs
Ranger Boots > Snakeskin boots > Rune Boots
Archer Ring > Any other dagganoth king rings > Any ring
Ava’s Accumulator > Fire Cape > Obsidian Cape > Legends Cape > Any other cape

I have made a picture showing the four best safespots.

======================

6.1 [Cannons]

Cannons can be quite useful, and can be used in the field. If you were using a cannon you could have it set up in front of the gate, or in front of the trees. Cannons could speed up range training as if you are safespotted it can attack multiple targets.

======================

7.0 [ Frequently Asked Questions ]

Q: Why shouldn’t I just go train at experiments?

A: Hey it’s up to you, but experiments is packed, has slow spawn times and is full of usually rude and arrogant pures.

Q: Is it easy to range yaks?

A: Yes, and you can leave the gate open for easy running in to grab your projectiles if you aren’t using an accumulator.

Q: Should I collect hides?

A: I would say no. Just get 3 so you can make some yak armour for yourself.

Q: How many people train at yaks?

A: Over the past week I haven’t seen anyone training there. Only questers every few hours.

Q: How much xp would I get per hour?

A: Depends how fast you can kill them really. Super attack pots help boost your xp by roughly 10k+ in my experiance. I get about 60k+ xp an hour. It seems like “omg you’re lying” but it’s only 300 kills to get that amount per hour, and thats only asking for 5 a minute, 12 seconds per kill. Which is VERY manageable.

Q: Should I bring a dragon battle axe/dds/d mace for special attacks?

A: I would say no to dds and d mace, it’s a hassle constantly changing to use up specials. For DBX it’s your own personal preferance really, it lowers attack however which my mean lowering how often you hit.

Q: Are Yaks aggressive?

A: No. Even if they were, they’re level 22, and you’d have to be under level 45 for them to auto attack you.

Q: Is it a multi-combat area?

A: No it is not.

Q: Do I need a seal of passage?

A: No, a seal of passage is for lunar isle, not Neitiznot.

Q: Can I kill yaks with 1 defence?

A: You need to do fremmnik trials and fremmnik isles, which both give you defence. So no. Sorry. They are “rock crabs for non pures”.

Q: Do I need to wear yak hide armour?

A: No. I just like to wear it.

Q: What food should I use?

A: Any, they hardly hit you at all.
