Runescape Rare Items

Posted by amber

Runescape Rare Items
Runescape Rare Items have gripped the Runescape economy and in a way are like the equivalent coastline real estate of real world. Why do I compare Runescape rare items to that of coast line or beach front real estate? Well because like beach front real estate there is a very limited quantity available in good locations and there definitely isn’t more of it going on the market. Runescape rare items are the same, and their value is skyrocketing, and with every passing month the value of such rare items is increasing.
Why Are Runescape Rare Items So Expensive?
Well because back in 2001 and 2002 when these items were dropped they were dropped in a fashion that allowed them to be tradable. Yet they were only dropped brief period in time, the specific holiday that the item was created for. This of course meant that for any players that weren’t playing on that particular day and wasn’t able to pick one of these rare holiday items up it meant that they had to buy one off another player. This meant that there was an active supply and demand for these holiday items like party hats, santa hats, Halloween masks etc.

Now it is basic economics that price generally equals the equilibrium point where supply meets demand. So if supply equals demand then this explains why are the prices of Runescape rare items are so high. See the supply of the these Runescape rare items is essentially fixed or decreasing, meaning that with ever passing month the supply for these rare items is actually decreasing. Why? Well because every time someone with one of these rare holiday items quits Runescape without selling or trading their rare item away that is another rare item that leaves the market which means there are less Runescape rare items to be purchased and therefore this reduces supply and pushes prices up.

Now in addition to there being continual pressure on prices to increase due to the decrease in supply there is also an additional force on the demand side again further pushing the prices of such Runescape rare items up. This is due to the fact that the demand for these items is almost always increasing due to the popularity of Runescape itself increasing. What do I mean by this? Well basically every time new players join Runescape they too become another person that would love to own a Runescape rare item. So with every passing day, week, month, year, not only is supply dropping by demand is increasing. All of this eventually leads to strong upward pressure on prices.

Runescape Rare Item Duplicator
Now the only time in history that the price of Runescape rare items has significantly dropped was when someone worked our how to duplicate the rare Runescape item, the pink party hat, and of course if you could duplicate any Runescape item with your duplicator your would of course duplicate the most expensive ones which in this case was pink party hats which at the time were the most expensive of the party hats. So how did this affect the price of Runescape rare items? Well they plummeted. Why? Because there was a huge increase in supply of rare items in combination with a reduction in demand for rare items seeing people were unsure of their future, and both of these changes in supply and demand put huge downward pressure on Runescape rare item prices. Of course once Jagex had fixed the duplicating glitch prices once again began to rise again slowly to today’s heights of being multi-million Runescape gold purchases.

Purchasing your Runescape Rare Items
Well to own a wearable Runescape rare item is quite a privilege these days, and a privilege that I’d imagine 99% of Runescape players won’t ever get the chance to experience. The sad reality is that the prices of Runescape rare items is quickly becoming out of reach for new players. Why? Well at the rate of inflation of these items it is hard to see new player being able to develop their characters to the point where they are able to earn enough Runescape gold to be able to pay for such items is probably getting out of reach. The amount of gold it costs to purchase these Runescape rare items seems to be close to doubling every 3 – 6 months. So even if a new player was able to make around 100k and hour on average and was able to play for 3 hours a day then that would mean that they could earn around 2 million Runescape gold a week. That that isn’t a small task by the average Runescape players standards and when considering the cheapest of these wearable Runescape rare items is now over 20 million gold you are looking at it taking in excess of 10 weeks to make this sort of money, by which time the price of the item will have increased no doubt by at least 50%. As you can see it really is an upward battle in regards to obtaining a wearable Runescape rare item these days.

Runescape Rare Items Future
So what is the future for such Runescape rare items? Well one would think that the price would continue to go up, maybe not as fast as it traditionally has been rising, due to the fact that prices are extremely high at the moment and well out of the reach of the HUGE majority of Runescape players. So is there any potential for prices of Runescape rare items to drop? Well the only three circumstances that I can envisage a drop in Runescape rare prices would be in the following cases; someone manages to create another Runescape item duplicator which would again force prices of rare items down quite sharply. I couldn’t predict the likelihood of something like this happening again in the future but I would imagine it would be quite low. Secondly the prices of such rare items would plummet if Jagex made the announcement that all discontinued items would be removed from the game. I don’t know how quickly prices would plummet but I’d imagine that you would probably see the prices drop to a few thousand Runescape gold very quickly, but I don’t think Jagex would do this because they would probably lose around 20% of players doing it. The third way I envisage that the prices of Runescape rare items would drop would be if the popularity of Runescape itself would drop creating a situation where the number of people demanding such items would drop and as long as the number of Runescape rare items available to purchase doesn’t drop this should bring around a corresponding price drop in the Runescape rare items market.

If you’re saving up for a Runescape rare item then best of luck and I highly recommend you start saving now and work as quickly as you can because otherwise you may lose your battle against Runescape’s inflation.

A newbie’s Runescape life

I am a newbie for the mmo game Runescape. But I like it so much.

My combat lvl is just 21. I had played the game for 3 days.

I am 35 years old. My son always plays this game and he told me it is very cool. So I join it.

At first, I finished the newbie quest. Then I was moved to Lumbridge when I was lvl 3. I began to practise my life skill and combat lvl.

I attack some goblins. First I don??t know the differences of chop, slash, lunge and block. I just used Slash and my strength XP grew very fast. But the attack and defence didn??t get any xp. Then my son told me I need use other actions to get the other xps. Well, lots of goblins were killed at my sword. That??s a cool feeling.

I also do some life skill. Like Fishing, Cooking, Firemaking and WoodCutting. Well, It is really a new world for me. I will go to varrock and play there.

Runescape is really a great life for us.I like it. And I think I will continue to play with my son.

Here is some introduction of Runescape.

Runescape2 or RS2 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that was developed by Jagex, a United Kingdom company, in 2001. San Francisco Servers

We apologise for the recent downtime of our San-Francisco game worlds
The company which provides bandwidth for these worlds hit financial difficulties, and was purchased by another company.

As a result the bandwidth for these servers is now coming from a different provider and there may be a few glitches whilst the new company takes over.

One of our bandwidth providers going bust is obviously out of our control, and we had no warning that this was coming. We have however arranged a contract with an alternative provider who is ready to step in if problems continue.

Thanks for bearing with us whilst we sort this out.

Watch Tower Quest!

Watch Tower Quest!

The young wizard on duty in the Yanille Watch Tower scribbled another tally onto the newly created ‘ogre activity report’. It had been a long shift, and the ogre sightings were getting more and more frequent. For a second, the wizard allowed his eyelids to drop…
“They’re gone! Who’s on watch?!”

The young wizard awoke with a start, “What’s going on?” he enquired, sensing the panic around him.

“I could well ask you that!” the senior wizard retorted, standing over the bewildered youth. “Locks smashed, doors wide open and the power crystals - gone!”

“Gone?! But, without the crystals…” the reality of the situation was hitting him like a Wind Strike in the chest.

“Exactly.” the senior wizard replied, placing a firm hand on the young wizard’s shoulder, “Without the crystals, Yanille is doomed.”

“Our only hope,” a voice from the doorway said “is that some brave adventurer is willing to take on this Watch Tower Quest

New Quest Online - Part Three

Today sees the release of the third part of our ongoing Members’ Quest. The War against the Dark Lord continues. In order to track down the evil King Tyras, you must first make your way through The Underground Pass.

We now know from our team of scouts that the pass is in fact a deep and complex labyrinth, which is all but empty of human kind.

Your job is to find a way through the pass, so that King Lathas can send his troops through to the frontierlands of West Runescape.

We had hoped to get this information from our scouts, but for some reason we had trouble getting much sense out of them. One of them spoke of a man named Iban, but this was clearly lunacy, as Iban was of course the great Dark Knight who died many years ago.

The Underground Pass follows on from the Plague City and

Making A Defence Pure

Posted by coco

There are three things to keep in mind when coming up with a name. They are, originality, simplicity and likeness (if that’s even a word).

You want an original name, because copying someone else’s name will not make you look good. Also, in my case, when I copy someone else’s name, I come to not like it later. So choose a name that you can stick with ’til the end.

Another thing that is significant in making a name, is the simplicity of it. The reason a simple name is often a good name, is that people will remember you much more easily. Names like Def noob23912 or Defil3d320 are hard to remember. So if you plan on being the best of the best, make your name simple so people will remember you.

Finally, the most important factor in a name, you need to like the name. If you’re anything like me and create an account with a name that you’re not so crazy about, you’ll regret it forever.

II. Equipment for training.

Weapons

There are only a few weapons to choose from when making a defense pure because you’ll only have 1 attack. These are Iron dagger, Iron scimitar, Red topaz machete and Silverlight.

Iron Scimitar

The iron scimitar is the best f2p weapon to train with. It’s fast and fairly accurate.

Red Topaz Machete

A Red topaz machete is the overall best weapon known for defense pures. It attacks just as fast as a scimitar or dagger, but has higher damage and accuracy.

Armor

Bronze - 1 Defense

Bronze is a very weak armor and should not be used because Iron gives better defense bonuses while having the same defense requirements.

Iron - 1 Defense

Another weak armor, but it is the best that you can use until 5 defense.

Steel - 5 Defense

This armor is still very weak compared to others, but it is the best that you can wear until 10 defense.

Black - 10 Defense

Black is an interesting armor because you cannot make it using the smithing skill. Also, some items only drop from monsters and are not sold at shops (for example, the black kite shield). Use this armor until 20 defense.

Mithril - 20 Defense

Now you’re getting to the good stuff. Mithril gives a medium defense bonus and requires 20 defense. A great thing about it, is it weighs less than other armor so you can preserve that precious energy for longer amount of time.

Adamant - 30 Defense

Adamant also gives a decent defense bonus. A cool thing about it, is that you can get it in trimmed or gold trimmed if you want to look fancy . Use this armor until 40 defense.

Rune - 40 Defense

Now we’re getting to the higher armors. Rune armor gives the best defense bonus for free to play worlds and some defense pures stop here. But we’re going to keep going! Use Rune armor until 60 defense.

Dragon and Obsidian - 60 Defense

Dragon armor is probably the prettiest armor (in my opinion ). It also gives a great defense bonus. And once again, a lot of defense pures stop here, but we’re going to continue to be the best. Use dragon armor until 65 or 70 defense. Depending on the amount of money you have to spend.

Third Age Melee - 65 Defense

Third Age armor comes from a long time ago. It gives a great defense bonus, but there’s a down side. It is amazingly expensive. It isn’t much better than dragon, so you can stick with dragon until 70 defense.

Bandos - 65 Defense

Bandos, like Third Age, is very expensive. It comes from the God Wars Dungeon and it’s melee bonuses are slightly lower than that of Third Age Melee armor. However, it makes up for this with much greater ranged defense bonus as well as some bonuses to strength and prayer. One thing to remember about Bandos equipement is that there is no helm or shield. Only torso, legs and boots.

Barrows - 70 Defense

Barrows is my personal favorite armor for defense pures and for any other type of character with 70 defense for that matter. There is a down side though. It needs to be repaired after every 15 hours of combat (and it costs a good amount to repair). The repair costs are listed below.

Keep in mind these are the repair costs when the item is at 0. You can repair it earlier for less.

Barrows Helms - 60,000 gp
Barrows Body Armor - 90,000 gp
Barrows Leg Armor - 80,000 gp
Barrows Weapons - 100,000 gp

Dragonfire Shield - 75 Defense

The Dragonfire Shield works wonders for defense pures. It allows them to stake and even PK with ease. What makes it so special is that it has a special attack. The special attack uses the fire from dragons to your advantage. What you must do is charge the shield by having dragons use their fiery breath attack on it. Once it is fully charge you may “operate” it to unleash the fire on an opponent.

BEWARE! The Dragonfire Shield will give magic experience if you use the special attack on a monster. So only use the special attack on other players if you want to continue as a defense pure.

For more information on the Dragonfire Shield visit these links: Runescape Knowledge Base or Zybez Item Database

Statius and Vesta - 20/78 Defense

This is another ancient type of armor that is found on PVP worlds. I would not reccomend this armor to a defense pure unless you are pking with an dragonfire shield. These armors give HUGE defense bonuses while being less expensive than bandos and third age. How can this be? Well these armors come with a big catch. They will last only 15-60 minutes depending on whether they have full requirements or not. Their defense requirements will also vary depending on their state. If they come with full requirements they’ll require 78 defense to equip, and the other with require 20 defense.

Note: I’m not sure if these will degrade outside of combat or not. If anyone does know this, please post about it.

Sacred Clay - 1/80 Defense

This is a great option for training, but might take a while to obtain. So you need to decide whether or not its worth getting. Sacred Clay armor comes in 5 different varieties (classes) and each class requires a different level and gives different bonuses:

Class 1: no defense requirement
Class 2: 20 Defense
Class 3: 40 Defense
Class 4: 60 Defense
Class 5: 80 Defense

The special thing about sacred clay equipment is that it provides you with 2x the experience if you train with it. However as you train with it, the armor will degrade.

For more information on this armor visit: Stealing Creation (Knowledge Base Article)

III. Training spots. (monster info taken from Zybez.net)

1-10 Defense:

The ideal monster to train on for these levels is Chicken (level-3). There are many in one location, and they deal no damage (no matter what defense level you have)

Combat: 3
Hitpoints: 3
Race: Animal
Members: No
Quest: No
Nature: Not Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee
Examine: Yep definitely a chicken.

THIS SECTION IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, SINCE MONKS ARE NO LONGER THE ONLY TRAINING SPOT YOU’LL NEED. For the most part, any low level monster with a decent amount of hitpoints will do well for a def pure.

Also, pest control is the fastest place to train. However, in order to get into pest control with all other combat stats at 1, you’ll need around 85 defense (to meet the level 40 minimum requirement).

IV. Helpful quests.

At the moment there are no quests that can be easily done on a defense pure that give defense experience. So this section will be coming soon…

V. Avoiding Trouble

1. While training your defense pure, you may be tempted to leave your computer. However, this is against JaGeX rules and is dangerous because of random events. I believe that it is allowed to browse other web pages while training though.

2. Once you’ve become a pretty good defense pure, with say… 40 – 70 defense, you will want to show off with fancy armor or items. Be Careful! A well known *sort of defense pure* named Defil3d, got killed by an Evil Chicken and lost hundreds of millions of GPs worth in items (including a white partyhat).

3. While training anywhere, I guarantee that there will be people coming and flaming you for not killing the monk fast enough. Just add them to your ignore list, because it isn’t worth getting banned. Especially if you’ve got over 40 def and have already spent all that time on your account.

VI. Tips and tricks.

1. If you’re using your defense pure for staking/PKing, be sure to use a poisoned dagger. It can deal 6 damage, which can ultimately be the difference between life and death in some cases.

2. If you are lucky enough to stick with your pure and reach 75 defense, I recommend buying a Dragonfire shield. The shield has a special attack which can deal 20+ damage. It is a sure fire way to win a stake.

3. For training, an amulet that gives extra accuracy bonus is better than one that gives a strength bonus. Therefore, Amulet of Power is better than Amulet of Strength (f2p) and Amulet of Fury is better than Amulet of Glory (p2p).

4. A good way to get an extra 500 or so experience per hour, is bringing an inventory full of Strength and Attack potions. They’ll put you up to 4 strength and attack and an inventory can last for up to an hour. (tip submitted by M_T_I_G)

VII. Questions and Answers

Q: How long will it take to get from 1-40 defense?
A: Approximately 30 hours. It differs depending on your playing time per day and your training weapon.

Q: Couldn’t I just train on monks from 1-99 defense?
A: Yes, it is possible. However, from 1-10 defense, the monks will hit very often, so I suggest getting black armor before training there. It is no longer possible to train efficiently on monks, because they DO NOT heal themselves anymore.

Q: Can a defense pure wear Dragon sq. shield?
A: No. Legends quest requires 50 strength to complete. So, Dragon. Sq shield is out of the question. An alternative would be an Obsidian shield.

Q: Is there any way to make a defense pure with 9 or 10 hits, in order to have a lower than normal combat level?
A: Yes, in fact Sid Viicious was the first (or one of the first) to go for 60 defense with 10 hits. What you need to do is train your defense solely with genie lamps, books of knowledge and penguins.

Q: What are the defense requirements for Third Age Melee armor?
A: Third Age Melee armor requires 65 defence to wield.

Q: Are defense pures actually good for staking or Pking?
A: Yes. They are good stakers once you reach about 60 defense. However, in order to Pk with them, I advise that you have a Dragonfire Shield which requires 75 defense. This is because a Dragonfire Shield can hit 20+ and without it, there’s no way to k.o. someone.

Trouble Brewing

Posted by coco

Trouble Brewing is a multiplayer game that pits players against players in a build ‘em up, knock ‘em down style competition to see who can brew rum the fastest. Players rush to gather materials used to make rum with while, at the same time, trying to prevent the opposing team from doing so. At the end of each game, players are rewarded with experience in a variety of skills and pirate currency known as Pieces o’ Eight. Completion of the Cabin Fever quest as well as level 40 cooking are prerequisites to participating in Trouble Brewing. This mini-game is considered “safe,” which means that you can’t die while playing it unless you were poisoned prior to the start of the game.

——————————————————————————–

What to Take

Because there is no way for you to easily recharge your run energy, you want to weigh as little as possible while still carrying the essentials to succeed. Since you may not have anything in your inventory prior to the start of the game, here’s what you should have on you.

M’speak Amulet - Obtained from the Monkey Madness quest, this enables you to talk to monkeys. Its use is explained in more detail in the “The Different Roles” section below. This item is not absolutely necessary.

Rune axe - Your standard axe for chopping trees, you don’t have to bring this either. You can always opt to go with a bronze axe that you can obtain during the game; however, you won’t chop as fast. Its use is also explained later in more detail along with the M’speak amulet.

Boots of Lightness - Obtained from the Temple of Ikov quest, this nifty pair of footwear lowers your weight by 4 kg. Very useful as it enables you to run around longer before your run energy hits 0 percent. Of course, it’s not absolutely necessary, but this item is highly recommended.

Ring of dueling(x) - You can use this ring to teleport away from the brewery after you’re done playing this mini-game. Since you can’t carry anything in your inventory and you should be wearing an M’speak amulet if you have one, this item is the fastest way to put some distance between you and those scurvy pirates without too much hassle. Bring one of these unless you enjoy partying with the horrors of the jungle.

——————————————————————————–

How to Get There

There are three main ways to get on board the Adventurous and sail to Mos Le’Harmless:

1. Teleport to the Ectofuntus using an Ectophial obtained during the Ghosts Ahoy quest.

2. Follow the green path to the dock.

1. Teleport to Canifis using Ancient Magicks or a Kharyll Portal within your house.

2. Follow the green path to the dock.

1. Teleport to Varrock in whichever way you would like.

2. Follow the green path to the Temple with Monks of Zamorak.

3. If you have level 65 agility, you can take the shortcut through a fence to skip the Paterdomus Dungeon. If you don’t have level 65 agility, make your way to the exclamation point and climb down the ladder. Follow the path that you traveled in the Priest in Peril quest and you’ll wind up on the other side of the fence.

4. Follow the Canifis route to the dock.

Once you get there, follow the green route as detailed below to get to the mini-game.

You can also charter a ship to take you to Mos Le’Harmless for a reasonable fee at most major ports all around RuneScape.

——————————————————————————–

The Basics of Playing

The game lasts 20 minutes long at most, just like Castle Wars and Pest Control. The object of the game is to finish with more bottles of rum brewed than the other team when the 20 minutes is over.

To start, you need to take sides in the battle for rum brewing supremacy. You can choose to side with Fancy Dan…

Or you can choose to side with San Fan…

If you are on Fancy Dan’s team, you will get a fancy little pirate hat, just like Dan’s.

If you are on San Fan’s team, you will get a, erm, “Sanfanesque” pirate bandanna, just like San Fan’s.

If you couldn’t care less about which team you’re playing on as long as you get to play, walk to the center of the waiting room building. There you’ll find Honest Jimmy. He runs a Deposit Box, a store for navy and pirate garb, and allows you to join the team with the lower amount of people waiting, just like the Guthix portal in Castle Wars.

Game Interface

While loitering in the Waiting Room, you’ll see a banner in the form of a scroll. It will tell you exactly how many people are waiting to play on each team and how much longer until the next game.

If you see the following…

… then it would probably be a good idea to find another world to play in. The banner is telling you that there are currently no games in progress and not a soul in sight willing to lend a hand or hook to brewing rum.

The above indicates that you are the only one waiting to get into a game, but there is currently a game in progress and that there are 18 minutes out of 20 left.

Same thing as the banner before this one, but this time, there are only 9 minutes left in the game.

The actual game interface is far more complex. It will be explained in detail below.

1 - This indicator shows how many logs are currently present and being used in Boiler #1. When the number turns green, that means that the boiler is currently at the correct temperature. Logs are consumed at a rate of one log per minute and they will need to be constantly replaced.

2 - This indicator shows how many logs are currently present and being used in Boiler #2.

3 - This indicator shows how many logs are currently present and being used in Boiler #3.

4 - This indicator shows how many bitternuts have been deposited in the bitternut hopper (explained below). When the number turns green, that means that there are enough bitternuts (1 or more) to brew one bottle of rum.

5 - This indicator shows how many loads of sweetgrubs have been deposited in the sweetgrub hopper. When the number turns green, that means that there are enough loads of sweetgrubs (1 or more) to brew one bottle of rum.

6 - This indicator shows how many buckets of water have been deposited in the water hopper. When the number turns green, that means that there are enough buckets of water (5 or more) to brew one bottle of rum.

7 - This indicator shows how many bowls of colored water have been deposited in the colored water hopper. When the number turns green, that means that there are enough bowls of colored water (3 or more) to brew one bottle of rum.

8 - This indicator shows how many loads of scrapeytree bark have been deposited in the scrapeytree bark hopper. When the number turns green, that means that there are enough loads of scrapeytree bark (1 or more) to brew one bottle of rum.

9 - This indicator shows how many of your team’s hoppers have been damaged by fire. They will need to be repaired with lumber patches before they can be used to deposit resources again.

10 - This indicator shows how many of your team’s trees are currently on fire. Trees that are burning will need to be doused with a bucket of water until you can continue to obtain logs from them. If you just let them burn themselves out, it’ll take longer for them to regenerate than if you had chopped them down.

11 - This indicator shows how many tiles on your team’s bridges have been damaged by fire. Bridge tiles that have been damaged by fire cannot be walked upon, rendering the whole bridge useless. They will need to be repaired with bridge sections before they can be used again.

12 - This indicator will flash if a bottle of rum that you contributed to (deposited enough of one ingredient to make a bottle of rum, i.e. 5 buckets of water, 1 bitternut) has been successfully brewed. You and whoever else contributed to its production have one minute to pick it up and put it in the rum crate before the next bottle of rum (if enough resources are queued up to produce it) comes out on the conveyor belt and knocks the previous one to the floor, causing it to smash.

13 - This indicator shows the current score and how much time is left before the game is over.

From left to right, the hoppers are colored water, scrapey bark, sweetgrubs, and bitternuts. Each ingredient must be placed in the corresponding hopper to be added to the stockpile.

The one lone hopper that’s off to the side is for buckets of water.

——————————————————————————–

How to Get Around

The fastest way to get from your base to the opponent’s base is by crossing your bridge to get to the center island and then crossing the opponent’s bridge to get to their base. If either bridge has been damaged and rendered impassable, then you can take one of the side bridges to get to the other side. If you want to get to the center island, but your own bridge has been damaged, cross a side bridge to get to one of the side islands and then use the stepping stones (marked in brown solid lines) to get to the center island.

If all the bridges have been damaged in some way, shape, or form, then you can use the stepping stones on the far sides of the distilleries. You can get from one side to the other as well as to the side islands using the stepping stones.

In short, the stepping stones are great for getting around if the bridges have been sabotaged and you’re too lazy to go repair them, but the stones take a lot longer to cross.

——————————————————————————–

The Different Roles

As mentioned before, Trouble Brewing is a team game. You won’t be able to brew rum competitively by yourself - as a matter of fact, you need at least three people per team to even play. Therefore, members of your team will need to concentrate on doing only a few tasks to maintain peak efficiency. If you’re thinking that this is like Henry Ford’s assembly line, give yourself a pat on the head (not back, to avoid a clichè).

Below you may find specialized roles that you can engage in.

Bitternut Gatherer

Gathering bitternuts takes much longer than the other supplies, but it is vital to the team effort to have enough bitternuts. It is helpful if more than one member of the team works at gathering bitternuts to ensure a healthy supply of them.

The following steps should give you a general idea as to how to efficiently gather bitternuts. You don’t absolutely have to do it this way. It’s just what I have found to work best after some experimenting.

1. As soon as the game starts, run to the tool store table and grab five bowls, two bridge sections, and a bucket. The bridge sections and the bucket are used in the unfortunate event that some bilge water-drinking scumbag from the other team happens to set your bridge on fire, delaying you in your quest for those nuts that are bitter. Since gathering bitternuts does not take up much of your inventory space, you might as well grab a few bridge sections and a bucket.

2. Go to your water pump and fill up your bucket with some dihydromonoxide (water).

3. Head over to the opponent’s base and pick five flowers of your color. Five is the maximum amount of flowers you can pick by yourself at any given moment.

4. Return to your base and throw the flowers into your kettle.

5. Use your bowls on the kettle. They will now be filled with steaming hot water of your team’s color.

6. Go to the center island and nab two monkeys. You can only have two monkeys in your inventory at once.

7. Use a bowl of water on each monkey and pray that singed monkey fur doesn’t smell too terribly. The monkeys will now be marked with your team color.

8. Use one of your monkeys on a bitternut tree. Once it’s up there, you’ll be able to see its tail wagging at the top of the tree. This is where the M’speak amulet comes into play. You can choose to make your monkey angry or tell it to be cautious. Although there is no definitive answer to the question of what exactly does each “encouragement” do, there are some theories. In my experiences, if you choose to make your monkey angry, it will be less likely to win fights (see below) but will gather a nut faster. If you tell it to be cautious, it’s more likely to win fights, but gathers a nut slower.

9. If your monkey is successful in obtaining a bitternut, it will throw it down to you and run off. If an opponent sends a monkey of the opposite color up the same tree that your monkey is in or vice versa, the two monkeys will fight. The fight outcome is random, but you can increase your chances of winning by making your monkey cautious prior to sending it up a bitternut tree. If your monkey wins the fight, it will throw you a bitternut. If your monkey loses the fight… well, it’s not in much condition to throw you much of anything anymore.

10. Repeat this process so that you have two bitternuts, which is the maximum that you can gather at one time.

11. Climb the copper ladder in your base to access the hoppers and deposit your two bitternuts in the correct hopper.

12. You should have three bowls of colored water remaining. Repeat steps 7 - 9 one more time, then start the whole process over again.

Pieces of Eight Rating: Low
Total possible experience gained per task: 100 crafting, 330 cooking, 150 firemaking, 15 agility.

Sweetgrub Gatherer

When it comes down to it, a team really only needs one person doing this task.

1. As soon as the game starts, run to the tool store table and fill your inventory with 28 pieces of rat meat.

2. Head to whichever sweetgrub mound you prefer.

3. Use all 28 pieces of rat meat with the sweetgrub mound. There are three possible outcomes. The first one, the most desirable one, is the rat meat gets used up and a load of sweetgrubs appears where that piece of rat meat used to be. The second one, which is less desirable, is the same as the first one, except the mound becomes devoid of sweetgrubs. You will need to wait approximately 16 seconds (yes, I timed it) before the sweetgrub mound is usable again. The third outcome, the one that you hope doesn’t happen very often, results in the appearance of a swarm of angry sweetgrubs. They are just like the swarm random event. You need to run off for a short distance and wait for the angry sweetgrubs to disappear before you can continue to gather sweetgrubs.

4. You will end up with 28 loads of sweetgrubs minus however many angry sweetgrubs you got. Deposit them all in the correct hopper.

Pieces of Eight Rating: Decent
Total possible experience gained per task: 100 crafting, 290 cooking, 150 firemaking.

Scrapey Treebark Gatherer

When it comes down to it, a team really only needs one person doing this task. Be warned however, doing this task may result in catching the “sickies” first experienced in the Zogre Flesh Eaters quest.

1. As soon as the game starts, run to the tool store table and take a knife. If you didn’t bring a rune axe with you, take a bronze axe from the workbench as well. However, as you probably know, you won’t chop as fast with a bronze axe.

2. Head to whichever scrapey tree you prefer. Please do note that the ones closest to your base are probably the ones that are the most crowded. The scrapey tree on the center island is recommended.

3. Chop at the tree to get scrapey tree logs until the tree falls. When it falls, instead of wasting time waiting for it to respawn, use your knife on the logs to get scrapeytree bark. This is the part that might cause you to become diseased. This disease, first experienced in the Zogre Flesh Eaters quest will cause your stats to drop at random by a few levels at a time. Your health will never be affected. You can cure this disease by drinking a dose of Relicym’s Balm. Wearing slayer gloves will prevent you from getting diseased.

4. Once you have 27 logs/bark (inventory full), convert the rest of the logs to bark using your knife.

5. Deposit them all in the correct hopper.

Pieces of Eight Rating: Decent/High
Total possible experience gained per task: 100 crafting, 290 cooking, 150 firemaking.

Colored Water Gatherer

All I can say is that this role is quite boring and tedious. Some people find it enjoyable though. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

1. Do steps 1 - 5 under Bitternut Gatherer.

2. Deposit the bowls of colored water in the correct hopper and repeat steps 1 and 2 until you are bored out of your mind.

Pieces of Eight Rating: Low/Decent
Total possible experience gained per task: 33.3 (repeating) crafting, 123.3 (repeating) cooking, 50 firemaking.

Water Gatherer

This role is very tiring on your mouse hand and wrist and gives you absolutely no experience whatsoever. However, you can get a lot of pieces of eight from this role.

1. As soon as the game starts, run to the tool store table and take 28 buckets.

2. Go to the water pump and fill all 28 buckets.

3. Deposit them in the correct hopper and repeat steps 1 - 3 until your wrist breaks or the game ends.

Pieces of Eight Rating: High
Total possible experience gained per task: None

Normal Log Gatherer

Normal logs are vital to keeping your still in functioning condition and to heat the boilers. May the logs be with you!

1. If you have a rune axe, you don’t need to get anything from the tool store table when the game starts. Otherwise, take a bronze axe.

2. There are trees scattered all over the island, including one on the center island. Chop them down for normal logs until your inventory is full.

3. Don’t put them in the boilers just yet because there’s no point in keeping the boilers burning if there aren’t enough resources to start brewing rum. Instead, drop them off in the log store and go back to chopping.

4. Once you see in the HUD (heads up display)/game interface that there are enough resources to begin brewing rum, take the logs and put them in the boilers.

5. After there are at least three logs in each boiler, take a tinderbox and light the boilers. Keep feeding the boiler fires with logs, making sure that each boiler has more than three logs at all times. The maximum is 10 logs.

6. If all boilers are maxed out on logs, either switch to another role or continue to fill up the log store for continued fueling of the boiler fires and assisting the repairmen and women.

Pieces of Eight Rating: Decent/High
Total possible experience gained per task: 40 firemaking

Arsonist

With this role, you are now able to live out your dreams in fantasy land! This role is very enjoyable, fun, and entertaining as long as you don’t mind being called a “noob” a lot.

1. As soon as the game starts, run to the tool store table and grab a tinderbox and a torch. If you can convince people to trade you a few torches, so much the better.

2. Make your way to the opponent’s base. Run if you can, because speed is of the essence.

3. Light your torch(es) once you’re halfway to the opponent’s base by using your tinderbox with an unlit torch.

4. Your first target should be the opponent’s water pump. Keep using a lit torch on the water pump until it catches on fire. If an opponent repairs it, try to set it on fire again. If the opponent calls you a noob, say something witty back at them, like, “I know I am” or “Thanks for the compliment!”

5. Next, you should try to burn the opponent’s hoppers to slow them down.

6. When both teams have started to produce rum, usually around the 14th minute or so, start torching the opponent’s bamboo pipes that connect the boilers to each other.

7. When one torch goes out, go back to your base and get another one and repeat the “glowing” experience.

Pieces of Eight Rating: Low/Decent
Total possible experience gained per task: 50 firemaking

Person-Who-Repairs-Stuff

Don’t you just love the originality of the title of this role?

1. As soon as the games starts, run to the tool store table and grab five buckets, five bamboo pipes, five bridge sections, and five lumber patches.

2. Go to the water pump and fill up your five buckets.

3. Pay close attention to the part of the HUD/game interface that’s on the left side of the screen, the side that tells you what’s on fire and what’s not on fire.

4. Whenever anything is on fire, go put it out with a bucket of water. Then use the appropriate materials to repair the damage.

5. When you run out of water, go fill up at the water pump again. If the water pump is burned out or on fire, either use a bamboo pipe with it or go fill a bucket at the watering hole in the center island, respectively.

6. If you run out of stuff to repair things with, grab logs from the log store where there are hopefully a few logs, and use them on the workbench to make more repair supplies.

7. If your opponents are starting to gang up hard on your bamboo pipes that connect the boilers, pump the large steam pump a few times and then vent it to put out all the bamboo pipe fires and deal some damage to any opponent standing next to the pipes. However, it will inflict an extra stage of damage (there are five stages of damage that flammable items can take) on those pipes, so be careful and use the large steam pump wisely.

The above image depicts the large steam pump on the left side. In the center is a boiler. In front of the boiler is a small wooden sign telling you which boiler it is (1, 2, or 3), and the blackened objects are bamboo pipes that have been damaged.

Pieces of Eight Rating: Decent
Total possible experience gained per task: 12.5 crafting, 50 firemaking (for putting something out and repairing it), 12.5 crafting (for making repair supplies), 10 strength (for pumping the large steam pump).

Rewards

The great thing about this game is that, win or lose, you will still get rewarded for your rum brewing efforts. This makes Trouble Brewing much more worthwhile time-wise, unlike in Castle Wars, where you don’t get anything besides the combat experience you earned in-game if your team doesn’t win.

The experience rewards are listed under each main role above. After every game, you will gain 100 crafting exp, 250 cooking exp and 150 firemaking exp for every bottle of rum produced that you contributed resources for. To qualify for this reward, you must have contributed one of the following (1 scrapey bark, 1 bitternut, 1 sweetgrubs, or 3 colored water) and your team must have brewed at least one bottle of rum. The best way to max out this experience is by gathering sweetgrubs or scrapey bark. Since your team’s average rum output is, on average, 12 - 16, and probably won’t exceed 20 bottles of rum brewed in a game, one trip will ensure that you get rewarded with experience for every single bottle of rum that is brewed.

The other reward in Trouble Brewing is a new pirate currency known as “pieces of eight”, or simply as POE. POE is used to buy items from Honest Jimmy’s store, located just north of the waiting room.

For every single bottle of rum your team has brewed, you will get two POE. You will also get up to 100 additional POE per game based on how hard you have toiled. For every single “task” that you have undertaken, you will gain one POE. A task is not just feeding supplies into the hoppers. Sabotaging and repairing count as a task as well for POE reward purposes.

Honest Jimmy’s House of Stuff
Picture Item Price

Naval Shirts 1,000 POE

Tricorn Hats 500 POE

Navy Slacks 1,000 POE
Cutthroat Flag 2,000 POE
Gilded Smile Flag 2,000 POE
Bronze Fist Flag 3,000 POE
Lucky Shot Flag 4,000 POE
Treasure Flag 5,000 POE
Phasmatys Flag 6,000 POE
The Stuff 50 POE
Rum 20 POE

Honest Jimmy likes to play by the caveat emptor mantra, in other words, let the buyer beware. Once you pay for something, there are absolutely no refunds and you’re stuck with your contraband purchase. The clue scroll that you can buy for 5,000 POE is a level 2. The rum can be used to teleport to the mini-game by consuming said rum.

And that’s all there is to it. Happy brewin’ and hope to see you mannin’ the hops on World 104, the best one to find a game of Trouble Brewing.

Smokey Dungeon

Posted by coco

The smoke Dungeon, located west of Pollnivneach, is a big part of the Desert Treasure Quest, and it is also a good place to train on Fire giants. There are lots of things within the Smoke Dungeon, but some are unknown. It is famous for being the home of the Dust Devils and is also home to one of the monsters you have to fight during the Desert Treasure Quest.

——————————————————————————–

The Smoke Dungeon is situated in the Kharidian Desert South of Al Kharid. The quickest way to get there is to take the Magic Carpet from the Shanty Pass to Pollnivneach then run to the Dungeon.

To enter just go to the Smokey Well and chose to Climb-down, but make sure that you are wearing a Face Mask (level 10 Slayer required); otherwise you will die fairly quickly.

——————————————————————————–

Map of the Dungeon

——————————————————————————–

Inside the Dungeon

As said in the first paragraph, there are things lurking in the depths of this dungeon that few know about. The things hidden within this dungeon are Fire Giants. Fire Giants are often killed in the Waterfall Dungeon which is normally very crowded, but within the depths of the Smoke Dungeon are several Fire Giants. Four of these Giants are all in a room together which make it the best place to Melee Fire Giants outside the Wilderness.

The Smoke Dungeon is also the best place in Runescape to kill Pyrefiends because it is nearer to a bank than the Fremennik Slayer Caves.

Desert Treasure

The Smoke Dungeon is home to Fareed who you must kill during the Desert Treasure Quest to obtain the Diamond of Smoke. To be able to get the key to enter the room he is in you must light the Torches situated in each corner of the dungeon by using a Tinderbox with them.

You can get the key to enter the room with Fareed from the Burnt Chest which is in the room in the center of the dungeon along with four Fire Giants that will attack you.

Leaving

To leave you must climb up the rope where you entered or teleport out.

——————————————————————————–

Inhabitants

There are monsters for everybody in this dungeon that range from level 35 to level 93 with level 65 Slayer required to kill them.

Fire Elementals - Fire Elementals are level 35 and are situated around the dungeon, but with a high density near the Standing Torches.

Pyrefiends - Pyrefiends are level 43 and require 30 Slayer to kill. They attack with a Magic based attack so if you are fighting them wear Dragonhide Armour. They are positioned all over the dungeon.

Fire Giants - The secret ingredient. Fire Giants are situated mainly in the room with the Burnt Chest, but there are also a few at the East end of the dungeon.

Dust Devils - The Smoke Dungeon is the only home of the Dust Devil. They are level 93 and require 65 Slayer to kill. The Dust Devil is famous due to the fact that it can drop a Dragon Chainmail although there is about a 1 in 10,000 chance of this happening. They are all situated in the West end of the dungeon.

Fremennik-Slayer-Dungeon

Posted by coco

Welcome to the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon, a dark and creepy cavern filled with quite a few deadly Slayer monsters. The dungeon can be found to the east of Rellekka, and to the northeast of Seers’ Village. If you’re planning on slaying some foul monsters, dust off your Mirror Shield and bring along a bag or two of Salt; there’s no telling what might jump out at you!

——————————————————————————–

The easiest way is to walk in the direction of Rellekka after using Camelot Teleport. Once across the bridge, turn east and eventually you will see the Golden Apple Tree. The entrance is a bit further east of it. Follow the red route in the picture:

Another possibility is to take the Agility shortcut: A log balance located a bit north of the Sinclair Mansion.

For this, you’ll need level 48 Agility. Follow the yellow line if you’re going to use this route.

If you did everything as it should be done, you’ll see the entrance to the dungeon:

Also, if you have at least started Fairy Tale Part 2: Cure a Queen, you can use the Fairy Ring combination AJR to teleport right outside of the dungeon.

——————————————————————————–

Map of the Dungeon

As you can see the dungeon has different rooms: Each of those is populated by one particular type of Slayer Monster. As you go deeper into the dungeon, the monsters get harder and require a higher Slayer level to kill.

——————————————————————————–

Inside the Dungeon

Once you walk in, you may notice that there is something peculiar about this dungeon: you walk in going east, but once you’re inside you’ll be traveling west.

Before Entering…

You should remember two things in particular:

1. Firstly, watch the Slayer levels needed to kill each monster you encounter. Trying to fight one with too low a Slayer level will cause you to miss and cause no damage. They will attack you and keep doing damage until you run away (or die!).

2. Secondly, remember to wield the correct equipment. If you don’t, you run the risk of dying! All slayer monsters that require special equipment can hit very hard and lower all your stats if you don’t have it equipped.

Slayer Monster Info:

You’ll also notice that listed in this guide are the Slayer monsters you will encounter, along with their hitpoints. This is because the number of hitpoints they have is equal to the amount of experience gained while on a Slayer assignment.

First Chamber

In the first room you will find several level 23 Cave Crawlers, and you will need level 10 Slayer to kill them. Beware though: They can poison you, so bring anti-poison potions if you need to fight these for slayer. These creatures are also aggressive.

Level: 23
Slayer: 10
Hitpoints: 22
Possible Loot: Herbs, secondary ingredients, Bronze Boots, Half of a Key and the elusive Dragon Shield left half.

Walk on and you will find an Agility shortcut: A high level one, 81 needed to cross it into the 4th chamber where Pyrefiends have their home.

Second Chamber

Next is the chamber filled with Rock Slugs. This is the first monster that needs a particular Slayer item to kill: a Bag of Salt you can buy at any Slayer Master. Start fighting it and when it is down to its last hitpoint use the bag of salt on it: It is the only way to kill it, cost at a slayer master, 10gp each but rising as you buy.

Level: 29
Slayer: 20
Hitpoints: 27
Possible Loot:Mystic gloves, various ores, Dragon Shield Half, Half Key, Runes, Rune Spear.

Third Chamber

The third chamber next and one filled with bird-like Cockatrice, level 37 with 37 hitpoints. Again a monster that needs a certain piece of equipment: A mirror shield. The cost at any slayer master is 5,000gp.

Level: 37
Slayer: 25
Hitpoints: 37
Possible Loot: Runes, Iron Boots, Mystic Boots, various seeds, Limpwurt Roots, Half Key, Dragon Half Shield.

Fourth Chamber

The fourth chamber, also known as a rangers’ delight, contains Pyrefiends. They are level 43, have 45 hitpoints, and require level 30 Slayer. For those who want to fight these melee-style use dragonhide armour as they have a magic based attack.

Level: 43
Slayer: 30
Hitpoints: 45
Possible Loot: Steel Boots, Fire Staff, Adamant Medium Helmet, level-2 Clue Scroll, Half Shield.

Fifth Chamber

The next room is number 5 and home to the Basilisk. They are level 61, require a Slayer level of 40, and have 75 hitpoints. You need a Mirror Shield to take these monsters on.

Level: 61
Slayer: 40
Hitpoints: 75
Possible Loot: Rune and Dragon Spear, Runes, Mystic Hat, Half Key, Left Shield Half and noted Coal.

This room also has a shortcut on the west side and brings you directly to the Turoths. Agility level needed: 62.

Sixth Chamber

Next in line are Jellys in room number 6. They are level 78, require 52 Slayer, and have 75 hitpoints. When fighting it melee-style the same as with Pyrefiends: use Dragonhide armour.

Level: 78
Slayer: 52
Hitpoints: 75
Possible Loot: Left Half Shield, Rune Full Helm, Half Key, Thread, Mithril Boots.

Seventh Chamber

Chamber 7 houses Turoths. They come in 4 different levels: 83, 85, 87 and 89. All require a Slayer level of 55. Hitpoints are: 76, 77, 79 and 81. Fighting with melee, you’ll need a Leaf-Bladed Spear (31,000gp), some Broad Arrows (50gp+ each) for the ranger and the mage will need to use the Slayer Staff’s (21,000gp) Magic Dart spell.

Level: 83, 85, 87, 89
Slayer: 55
Hitpoints: 76, 77, 79, 81
Possible Loot: Herbs, Seeds, Mystic Bottoms, Rune Dagger, Dragon Spear, Half Shield, Mithril Kite.

Eighth Chamber

The last chamber and the end of the Dungeon houses the only aggressive monster: level 106 Kurasks. You’ll need 70 Slayer to kill them, and they have 97 hitpoints. As with Turoths, use Leaf-Bladed Spears for melee, Slayer Staff needed to cast Magic Dart for mages, and Broad Arrows for the ranger. There are 3 good range and mage spots. Be careful though: they can hit pretty hard at 15 and there is the problem of not much melee defense for mages and rangers and their armor.

Level: 106
Slayer: 70
Hitpoints: 97
Possible Loot: Mystic Top, noted Flax (25), Rune Long, Adamant Platemail, level-3 Clue Scroll, White Berry, Half Shield and Half Key.
