Today sees the release of our first tier 4 aura, a range of new combat auras with some amazing visual effects, and some excellent choices for those pursuing a peaceful path. There’s something to suit every loyalty point balance so, if you haven’t already, sign up to our Members Loyalty Programme now!

Auras…

First up is our first tier 4 aura: Aegis. It’s our priciest aura at 84,000 points, but it’s accordingly powerful, reducing damage taken by a percentage based upon your Defence level. The Aegis effect lasts for 30 minutes, or until it has absorbed an amount of damage also determined by your Defence level.This affects all damage types and stacks with armour, making you a burly bastion of resilience in the hairiest of combat situations.

The Salvation and Corruption auras both offer increased Prayer XP and a means of prayer point recovery. While the effects of these auras are identical, visually they’re very different, bestowing you with angelic or demonic wings depending on your chosen version.

The Ancestor Spirit aura gives you a chance that, when you’re struck in combat, the ghostly forms of your forebears will return to wreak vengeance upon your assailant with a retaliatory attack. This works in both PvP and PvE.

The Dark Magic aura is sure to become a favourite among magic-users everywhere, as it has a chance to add an additional damage-over-time effect to any direct-damage spell. Again, this works in PvP and PvE.

Fight fans will also enjoy the Berserker aura which gives an Attack and Strength boost for a short time, and the Regeneration aura, which increases life point regeneration.

There are some new options for skillers, too: There’s an all-new Greenfingers aura for farmers, which prevents crops from becoming diseased and gives a percentage chance for increased crop yield. Hunters among you will enjoy the Tracker aura, which increases your chance of successfully trapping hunting targets.

On top of all this, we’ve added new tiers to many of the auras already available, including Knock-Out, Call of the Sea, Five-Finger Discount, and many more.

Click here for full details of available auras, including durations, cooldowns and loyalty point costs.

Emotes…

There are now eight new emotes to choose from, at a range of loyalty point prices to suit everyone. Ever felt the need to express your irrepressible mirth by rising on the seismic tide of a Lolcano? Perhaps, instead, you’d prefer to crescendo malevolently into an Evil Laugh. These, and more, are now available from Xuan’s store.

…And Much More!

There are four exotic new costumes available, each in a range of colours. Whether you’re looking to style yourself as a Colonist, an Aztec, a Musketeer or a Highlander, there’s a choice for every fancy-dress party or period re-enactment. Feel free to visit our costumes page for a preview before you choose!

We’ve added some new titles too, including Prince/Princess, Archon and The Awesome.

Finally, there are several new re-colouring options, as well as the option to change the transformation bestowed by the ring of stone.

Improvements

There’s little that can’t be accomplished with some hard capital and a sturdy set of tools, and with this foundation in mind we’ve introduced some much-requested usability improvements in the Money Pouch and Tool Belt.

At the bottom of the mini-map interface, you’ll notice a small icon depicting a pile of coins. From now on, coins can be stored here rather than in your inventory, if you would prefer. You can right-click coins to add them to the money pouch from your inventory. Remember that coins are safe from being dropped on death unless they are in your inventory when you die in the Wilderness.

The tool belt icon can be found in the bottom right of your equipped inventory interface. Most tools can be added to this belt, so they can be used whenever you need them without taking up inventory space.

Player Loyalty – Batch 3 (members-only)

We’re bringing the latest set of loyalty rewards to Xuan’s shop, including Tier 3 auras and a tempting Tier 4 aura. There are 26 new auras in total across 4 tiers, but we haven’t stopped there: we will offer 4 new costume sets, 6 new titles, 3 recoloured objects and 8 new emotes! With the `12 Days of Christmas‘ (info below) offering you more points per day, there’s every reason to give a present to yourself.

The highlight has got to be the new Salvation and Corruption auras, which visibly add angelic or demonic wings to the back of your character while the aura is active. Not only do these look AMAZING but they recover prayer points and grant XP while being used. For those of you who are eager to unlock the first Tier 4 aura, we can reveal that it will be called Aegis: a shield that reduces damage by up to 10%!

Other rewards of note include the new ‘Awesome’ title, the LOLcano emote, a ring of stone recolour (allowing you to turn into different stones), the colonist outfit, and my own personal favourite, the highlander outfit.

Rogues Den 2 – Renamed ’Flash Powder Factory‘ (members-only)

Deep underground, Brian O’Richard has become depressed. His wonderful Rogues’ Den is full of cooks rather than thieves, using the everlasting fire to burn lobsters. It is hardly the purpose he had in mind for his wondrous cavern. To change his fortunes, this month Brian will open the doors to his Flash Powder Factory: the true purpose behind the Rogues’ Den.

Featuring a brand new agility arena, you’re invited to help Richard make flash powder while earning Thieving, Herblore and Agility XP. You’ll be plotting an optimal path through obstacles to pick up the catalysts and reagents you need, while blocking the paths of your competitors. You‘ll dodge and weave as you compete with other players to steal as many sets of bonus apparatus as you can, to make the flashiest of flash powder!

Those particularly keen on the area might find themselves interested in the unique armour reward, which gives additional benefits while playing. Outside of the area, wearers of this unique gear will find some of their potions are made as 4-dose pots instead of 3-, and will gain small amounts of XP when making unfinished potions. Old Rogues’ Den rewards are still achievable, and don’t worry: the fire’s still there!

Warning: There are new Thieving and Agility requirements of 75 (previously 50), and a new Herblore requirement of 50.

The Really Wild Rework – New Wilderness Surface Environment Graphics (free and members)

Our artists have once again been hard at work redesigning some of the surface world, this time focusing on the dark, violent plains of the Wilderness. Expect to see new lighting and lava effects, redesigned castle ruins and a few new surprises. This update only covers the surface environment, but Mod GFX and his team are eager to start work on dungeons and Wilderness NPCs in the future. As always, be careful in the Wilderness! PK’ers rarely take prisoners…

Christmas 2011 - A Towering Feast (free and members rewards)

This year, our event focuses on some of the oldest and dearest characters of RuneScape: the wizards of Wizards’ Tower! Unknown to many (aside from Party Pete), wizards are among the hardest partiers in RuneScape, and their events are often the result of ten wizard mind bombs too many. Make a feast using a multicannon! Chase rogue decorations around as they make a bid for freedom! Cover the Wizards’ Tower basement with snow emitters! Tease Timmy, the imprisoned demon! Even join in with the creation of a snowman army! Rewards include a new Chaotic Cookery emote (based on the aforementioned cannon-based cookery), a curious new wand and a brand new pet (for members only).

Oh, and 30 more slots of bank space for members!

A little treat from us this Christmas!

Improvement Projects (free and members)

We will be releasing a batch of projects this month that will hopefully relieve a few irritations you may have experienced. These are the first of many upgrades and improvements to reduce the number of ‘clicks’ you perform RuneScape, so expect more to come.

Conversation Update

We are upgrading the main chat panels you see when interacting with NPCs. We’ve gone for a modern, fresher look, while still retaining something unique and fitting for RuneScape. These upgrades are not just graphical: you’ll be able to use number keys to select from multiple chat options AND press the space bar instead of ’Click to continue‘. You can even hold down the space bar to fast-track through conversations.

Toolbelt

On release, you’ll notice a brand new button, accessed via the worn inventory screen. This is the toolbelt, and it will act like a new equip ’slot‘ that can carry all of your basic tools: from farming implements to tinderboxes. The toolbelt has no prerequisites and won’t occupy any inventory or worn slots. Using it couldn’t be simpler, as all resources can now be single-clicked, meaning you won’t need to withdraw a tool in order to use it.

Money Pouch

At its core, the money pouch is like an additional and free inventory slot for coins. You can use your pouch to store up to 2.1 billion GP and, in MOST situations, coins picked up are added directly to your money pouch. All financial interactions are now handled directly by the pouch, so you won’t need to withdraw cash into your inventory to use it (although you still can, if you wish). As was true before this update, coins are safe from being dropped on death unless they are in your inventory when you die in the Wilderness.

12 Days of Christmas

It’s that time of the year, so we’re giving away some extra presents during the 12 Days of Christmas! Every day from the 25th of December 2011 through to the 5th of January 2012, you can claim up to 6,000 total Loyalty Points if you’re part of the Members Loyalty Programme. RuneFest 2012

If you’ve not already spotted the latest poll, why not head over and have your say on the location of RuneFest 2012. Hurry though, the poll closes on the 4th of December!

Have fun…and have a great Christmas, wherever you are!

We recently hit 100k subscribers on our YouTube channel and, to celebrate, we asked the community to stand up and be counted in a special 100k video.

If you want to put faces to names, like people-watching, or just want to guess how many J-Mods we’ve hidden in the video, you can check out 0.1% of our entire YouTube community right now:

We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who took part, and also sorry to those of you who sent videos that didn’t appear in the finished vid. So many more of you took part that we ever imagined that we simply couldn’t fit them all in without having a video over 2 hours long.

Three entrants will be hearing from us very shortly just as soon as we’ve been able to steal “something amazing from under Mod Nexus’s desk”. Wish us luck!

Finally, if you’ve not yet subscribed to our channel, we’d love you to (youtube.com/runescape). We’re getting close to 10 million upload views and, with your help, we’ll surely be celebrating that milestone very soon.

While our bodies may have only just recovered from the massive celebration that was RuneFest 2011, our heads are already filled with excitement at the thought of Runefest 2012!

Our crack team of RuneFest organisers are now embedded deep in the studio working around the clock dreaming up our biggest and best RuneFest ever.

Since RuneFest 2011, we’ve been inundated with questions about RuneFest 2012 and the most popular question by far has been: “Where will it be?”. We’ve not answered that question because, well, there are just so many major factors to consider that we don’t actually know yet. One such factor is, of course, what you think.

So, which city do you think should host RuneFest 2012?

- New York
- Los Angeles
- Chicago
- London

Today we launch a quick poll for you to tell us your preferred city. We can’t guarantee that the most popular city will host Runefest 2012, but we can promise you that your opinion is an essential part of that decision making process.

The poll can be found on the main page of Runescape.com and is open for the next two weeks. That should give you just enough time to rally support for your chosen host city.

Can’t wait to see the results!

Introduction
Over the years, the kingdoms of Asgarnia and Misthalin have become increasingly uncomfortable about the possibility of threats from the Wilderness and Morytania. King Roald has taken matters into his own hands and has commissioned a network of beacons to be built across the land, from the Temple of Paterdomus at the border of Morytania, along the northern borders of Misthalin and Asgarnia and up along the western border of the Wilderness. The communication network is already in place, but King Roald could use a little help making sure everything is ready to go, in the event of emergency….

Quest Walkthrough
1. Trouble in Mos Le Harmless

Unsuspecting victim

Items needed:

* Amulet of catspeak (e)

To start this quest, you will need to speak to Sir Tiffy Cashien who is sat on a park bench in Falador park. He will tell you about an operative of his who is investigating a rather concerning issue on the island of Mos Le Harmless. Sir Tendeth - the operative that Sir Tiffy spoke about - is deep under cover in the Other Inn. Speak to him to find out more about his report.

As you speak to Sir Tendeth, something terrible happens. Go outside and ask the local pirates what happened. They’ll tell you about various creatures that could have caused the damage to the village, but those you speak to agree that the creatures came from outside of the village. Head north and out of the border wall to investigate, Sir Tendeth will follow shortly after and meet his maker.

After dashing to safety behind a tall tree, you will need to head to the east to discover what killed Sir Tendeth. Use the tall grass and the trees that you find along the way as they will provide ample cover. Watch out for bushes near the trees as these will stop you getting into cover. It is strongly advised that you turn on run for this section, and do not stop unless you are directly behind a tree. If you get hit, the pirates will return you the the gates of their village.

You can use the route below, but any route through the northern half of the island will bring you to your destination, provided you keep in cover.
Path through the flame

When you reach the far side of the island, the cause of the damage to Mos Le Harmless and Sir Tendeth’s fall is revealed. You should return to Sir Tiffy in Falador to tell him what you have discovered.
Archive note

Sir Tiffy will take you to the archive room where Lady Table will help you find out a bit more about Sir Tendeth’s killers. In one of the archives there is a riddle which you will need to figure out.

The reincarnation part of the riddle is a cat - more specifically, it is Bob the cat - and the stonetoucher is you. Armed with these facts, you are sent to find Bob the cat and ask about his collar. Exit through the archive door when you are ready.

Bob is a traveller and never stays in one place for very long. In order to find him you will need to use an amulet of catspeak (e). If you do not have one, you can get an unenchanted amulet from the Sphinx in Sophanem. Make sure to have a cat or kitten following you at the time. To enchant it, take 5 death runes and your amulet to Hild in Burthorpe.

Open the amulet and move the compass points by clicking on the whiskers: left for anti-clockwise, right for clockwise. When Bob’s direction is found, the amulet’s eyes will glow white. Head in that direction until you find him.

Wear the amulet to speak to Bob when you have found him, and ask for his collar. You should study it to see if it can give you any further information. On the outside of the collar is printed, unsurprisingly, Bob’s name but on the inside of the collar you will find the word DIRAKS. Given the contents of the note that you found in the archive room, you should realise that DIRAKS is the code to the plane of Kethsi. To use the code, you will need to head to the fairy ring in Zanaris.
2. To the Plane of Kethsi

Kethsi mural

Items needed:

* Bob’s collar

The code on Bob’s collar must be input in two parts. Teleport to ‘DIR’ first, use the fairy ring to head back to Zanaris, then teleport to ‘AKS’ to find yourself within Kethsi.

Looking around - aside from the mural of the dragonkin destroying a city - there isn’t much you can find from the area around the fairy ring. Given this, it seems logical that you should explore the rest of the area and see if there is anything that can help you find out more about the dragonkin.

From the fairy ring (A on the map), head up the fallen section of wall behind the mural (marked B). If you head north from there you will find a strange design on the wall. Investigating it you see a familiar pattern: something you have seen on Bob’s collar.
Collar solution

Use Bob’s collar on the wall design and line up the patterns. Bob’s collar will fit the design as shown in the image to the right.

There will be a hidden compartment behind the wall; within it are several useful items. The ‘note to you’ will explain that Robert the Strong has hidden the items you will need to uncover the secrets of Kethsi within the ruins. He has given you two items that you will need - a tetrahedron and the arm for the statue.

You should return to the ground floor and search the area. There is rubble opposite the mural that will contain another tetrahedron.

When you have found the second tetrahedron, head back to the first floor and across the agility jump. Reattach the statue’s missing arm and you will reveal a plank which will allow you to move across to the north-west side of the ruined building. Cross the plank and head down the ladder on the north side.
Route through Kethsi

Start / End points Doors / pipes Agility obstacles

Ladders & wall jumps Tetrahedrons

From the ladder (the red dot marked A on the map to the right) make your way across to the northern section of Kethsi using the various agility obstacles. After crawling through the tunnel and arriving at point B, you will need to mine your way through the rocks that stand in your way. If you do not have a pick in your inventory, there is one to your left.

After you have made your way through the rocks, continue though Kethsi using the agility obstacles. At the far west corner on the map to the right, head down the ladder to the ground floor and follow the path around to find another tetrahedron and a strange device hidden amongst the rubble.

From the tetrahedron head back to the building in the north-west and climb up both ladders (marked C). On the second floor, head across the agility obstacles (starting at D) until you get to the southern part of Kethsi. Here you’ll find the final tetrahedron hidden under the rubble.
Kethsi grid references

With the final tetrahedron in your possession, head to point E where you will find stairs down to a basement. When you enter the room there will be a locked door in the south, a spade to the east and four indentations in the wall. If you do not have a spade, pick it up and then place your tetrahedrons into the indentations. Remember the letters you are given when you place a tetrahedron into the wall. You’ll be given something like: 1 = E, 2 = H, 3 = A, 4 = C (EHAC).

Head back outside and use the strange device. It will give you a location such as BHDG - this is your current position. You need to find your way to the location given by the tetrahedrons. Given the examples match the codes you were given, you should use the spade to dig the ground at the position marked on the map with a white dot. If you are in the correct place, you will receive a Kethsian key - use this on the locked door back in the basement.

To your south there is a bookcase which, when searched, reveals Dathana’s message. The message describes the Stone of Jas and the dragonkin, as well as a way of fighting them - bane ore. The bane ore tuning spell scroll can be found on the south-east bookshelf. Use it to learn the Tune Bane Ore Lunar spell. When you have learnt the spell, head back to Sir Tiffy to explain what you have found.
3. The Plan Takes Shape

Set-up

Items needed:

* Combat items
* Anti-dragon shield
* Rope
* Arrav’s heart
* Beacons x4
* Ring of visibility

Sir Tiffy will tell you to head to Akrisae and tell him about the dragonkin threat. Go to the ground floor of the White Knights’ castle in Falador. You will find the anti-Lucien council in the east of the castle.

It will not be simple to convince Akrisae to help you, he is adamant that his order will not accept assistance from the Mahjarrat. You will need to remind him that this isn’t a matter where help can be thrown aside because of his beliefs. Convince Akrisae by informing him of the bigger picture, that there is no other way to defeat Lucien, that you will still remain cautious in your dealings with the Mahjarrat and that you will risk your own life to do so. He will not be able to put down such an argument.

The plan to remove the threat that the Stone of Jas poses is made up of many parts, but your first task is to speak to Azzanadra at the Dig Site found to the east of Varrock. Tie a bucket and rope to the winch in the centre of the dig site and lower yourself down to the cave beneath. Azzanadra is south of you, speak to him and explain the situation. He will give you another task to perform on the plateau.

Head to Ghorrock Fortress (in the north-west corner of the Wilderness). You can reach this through the wilderness itself, if you are prepared for the risk, or you can use the fairy rings to teleport to AJR and get a canoe to the northern side of the plateau.

If approaching from the wilderness, there is a huge ice block that is stopping the dragons inside from escaping and running rampant across the wilderness. Due to the heat orb you can slip past but make sure you have equipped your dragon-slaying equipment first. Fight your way across to the fortress entrance and head south, over the pillar barricade and through the crack in the fortress wall. You will emerge on the plateau where the Mahjarrat will perform their ritual.

Your list of tasks is as follows:

1. Place a rope on the north-west side of the plateau to allow Akrisae to come to your assistance;
2. Place beacons at cardinal points on the plateau;
3. Hide Arrav’s heart near the ritual stone;
4. Weaken Zemouregal’s hold over Arrav;
5. Locate the Stone of Jas.

Note that, with the exception of finding the Stone of Jas, you can complete these tasks in any order.
Plateau map

Entrance / Exit Overhanging tree

Arrav’s heart Beacons

Firstly, you need to hang a rope on the north-west of the plateau. Head west from the plateau entrance (point A). There is an overhanging tree with a strong branch that extends over the edge of the plateau (orange dot), you should attach a rope to this.

Be cautious, all around the plateau there are undead broavs that will call their masters should they spot you. If you are spotted you will be teleported to a cell within Zemouregal’s fortress. You can escape however, if you search the bed for a chisel and a spade (if you don’t already have them), and lift the cracked tile on the west side of the cell. You can then dig your way out. Head south from point B and then east to get back to the plateau.

Next, you will need to hide the beacons that Azzandara gave you in 4 different places: one in the north, one to the east, one in south and the final in the west. To be most effective, the North and South beacons need to be opposite each other, as do the East and West beacons. Place them as marked on the map for optimal performance (blue dots).

You should place Arrav’s heart amongst the rubble to the south of the ritual stone (yellow dot). It will be close enough to have an effect there.
Decoder

Your next task it to head to Zemouregal’s fortress and reduce his control over Arrav. You should head to point C on the map, killing the armoured zombie at the south-east corner of the fortress on your way. The zombie guards the entrance against unwanted visitors and carries the code for the door. He also carries some decoder strips. You’ll need both the code and the strips.

Read the key code and take note of what is written there then click on the door. You’ll need to match up the decoder strips to the letters mentioned in the code, doing this will give you a number that you must program in to open the door. Select a strip and use the arrows in the top right corner of the interface to move them into position. Then use the arrows in the centre of the interface to enter the numerical code (up/down chooses the number you want and left/right selects which part of the combination you are adjusting). If you were given the code ACHF, you would place the strips as depicted in the image to the left giving you the code 6821.
Zemouregal’s fortress - ground floor

When the door unlocks, make your way inside the fortress. On the ground floor you will need to search the room for more codes. You will find a code at the pink dot A, within a crate. Use this on the door to the west and then head into the room to the north. You will find another code in the crate in the top left corner. You will also find a note that discusses how Zemouregal controls Arrav. Head upstairs via the staircase marked with a red dot and use the third code on either of the reliquary doors there. Inside that room you will find the stone that the note spoke of; smash it to reduce Zemouregal’s hold over Arrav.

When you are ready, head back out to the plateau to finish the final part of the plan.

Head east along the south edge of the plateau, avoiding the undead boravs along the way, until you encounter a familiar face: Movario. He too is searching for the Stone of Jas and, despite you both agreeing that the last partnership turned a little sour, you agree to team up to locate it. Movario has detected that the stone is nearby, as well as the presence of shadow magic.

Equip yourself with a ring of visibility and head back along the southern edge of the plateau until you find a shadow pedestal. It looks exactly like the ones that hold the heat globes back in Ghorrock Fortress.
Ghorrock Fortress - ground floor

Head north to the fortress, crossing back through the tunnel in the wall. You can’t take the globe from the entrance to Ghorrock Fortress otherwise the ice block will refreeze and you won’t be able to get out, so perhaps there is another globe within the fortress? Jump over the fallen pillar, run north and go into the fortress’ courtyard.

There is a trap door on the far side of the fortress, but the way is blocked by snow covered rubble. If you cross using the balcony, using the route marked on the map to the right, you will be able to get to the trapdoor.

Once in the fortress’ basement, head east and then south, fighting the icefiends on the way. There are several pedestals in the basement, but none contain the heat globes. The south-western room however, has a globe on the floor. Collect this and head back out to the surface.

Armed with the heat globe, return to the hidden pedestal in the southern part of the plateau. Once there, place the globe on the pedestal and the entrance that was previously hidden becomes revealed by the pedestal’s activation.

Before heading inside, ensure that you are fully prepared - a great danger awaits you within the cave.
4. Lucien Must be Stopped

Views of the past

Items needed:

* Combat items
* Teleorbs x4

When inside the cave, follow the path south until you reach the Stone of Jas. You must complete the final part of the plan and attach the teleorbs to the stone. When you do, the stone shows you its history but remaining in the cave for so long alerts Lucien to your presence and you are teleported out onto the plateau.

On the plateau you are met by Akrisae, Sir Tiffy and Ali the Wise - the rope you left worked perfectly. You all head to battle Lucien but General Khazard and his lackeys block your path. Leave the Saradomin knights to deal with the lackeys, and aid Sir Tiffy with Khazard. He will summon his pet Bouncer to assist him. You cannot attack the dog but Wahisietel will be able to destroy it for you, albeit temporarily, if you coax it towards him.

To avoid defeat, Khazard will teleport to the ritual stone and you will follow him there. Here, Lucien will at last reveal himself. Wahisietel will hold back Lucien, but you must defeat the enhanced ice titans summond by Zemouregal. The ice titans will occasionally freeze you in a block of ice which will cause large amounts of damage unless you can break free - keep clicking on the ice block to break your icy bonds. You should keep moving around too as Lucien will cast a spell at where you stand. It will do a great deal of damage should it hit.

When the ice titans are defeated, Zemouregal will summon an army of ice demons. Sliske will show his face and, with his own backup, help Wahisietel deal with Lucien. Again, you must fight the minions. The ice demons will create stalagmites around you, preventing you from moving too much. Destroy the stalagmites or you will not be able to move out of reach of Lucien’s spell.

As the final ice demon falls, the other Mahjarrat will show - the time of the ritual has arrived. The Mahjarrat bicker amongst themselves as to who will be sacrificed but a decision cannot be made. Zemouregal summons more minions - armoured zombies this time - so defeat them quickly, again never staying in one place for too long.

When the final zombie falls, Zemouregal will summon Arrav. Attack him to get his attention (it may take some time) and lure him towards his heart which you hid earlier. Arrav will, quite rightly, not react well to his heart as it reminds him of the past and he will turn on Zemouregal. Help Arrav to defeat Zemouregal.

Lucien is becoming increasingly irritated and destroys one of the beacons. After this he will summon another minion: a glacor. As Wahisietel advises, ignore the beast and fix the beacon. Head south, collect the beacon parts and reassemble them. When you are done, place it back in the tree.

As you place the beacon in its original place, Lucien sacrifices Jhallan and the remaining Mahjarrat receive his power. The others take this as their time to attack Lucien but it is not enough, and he brings the Stone of Jas to the surface. His use of the stone’s power attracts the dragonkin and they enact their punishment.

After you witness the destruction at the hands of the dragonkin, and Sliske’s own contributions, help Sir Tiffy to hide the Stone of Jas by choosing a number to encode the teleportation spell.

You all teleport to Falador but something goes wrong and you end up in Draynor. The whole area is damaged and the dead are everywhere. Make your way through the village and witness the destruction the dragonkin will rain on the village.

Speak to Sir Tiffy. You will find he didn’t see the terrible vision of the destruction of Draynor but he will give you your reward.

Introduction

Chopping down a tree One of the simplest ways in which people make a living in RuneScape, is by cutting down trees. The Woodcutting skill can benefit you in many ways, many of which involves using your logs for Firemaking, or members can use them to fletch items.

To chop down a tree, just click on one and select ‘Chop down tree’. If you have a hatchet in your inventory and a sufficient Woodcutting level, you will attempt to chop down the tree. Although Woodcutting is not a members’ skill, some items that can be cut using this skill require member status.

This symbol indicates the location of the rarer trees on your maps.

Tools

Woodcutters need to be familiar with the tools of their trade. In RuneScape there are two types of tools used.

The most common Woodcutting tool is the hatchet. The other tool for this purpose is the machete. Hatchets are used to chop down the different types of trees found throughout RuneScape, whereas machetes are used to hack away at light, medium and dense jungle mainly during the Tai Bwo Wannai Clean-Up.

Note: The better the quality of your Woodcutting hatchet or machete, the quicker you will be able to cut logs from trees, this also applies to the dragon hatchet, which has a faster Woodcutting speed than rune hatchets.

Introduction

Cleaning up the village For those who have completed Jungle Potion there’s still plenty to do around the village - just talk to some of the villagers in this tight little community. By speaking to Murcaily, east of Trufitius’ hut, you will find that most jungle villagers hate to have their nice tidy village invaded by stubborn patches of jungle. Therefore, you volunteer to help clear the area of jungle surrounding the village and also repair any damaged fencing.

Location

Map of Tai Bwo Wannai This game takes place in the jungles surrounding Tai Bwo Wannai Village on Karamja. There are a number of ways to reach the village, many of which are detailed in the Transportation Guide.

Requirements

To take part in this task you must have completed the Jungle Potion quest. You will need to be wielding a machete in order to cut back the growth, not just have one in your inventory. Machetes do not have a required level to wield, but level 10 Woodcutting is required to chop light jungle, level 20 is required to chop medium jungle and level 35 is required to chop dense jungle.

Recommended Items

Item

Use in TBWC

Anti-poison Made by players using the Herblore skill. Some of the NPCs you will encounter through the clean-up will have the ability to poison you, so it is a good idea to carry a cure. This is also one of the broodoo victims’ weaknesses so carry one just in case.
Relicym’s balm Made during the Zogre Flesh Eaters quest by players. This is one of the broodoo victims’ weaknesses, so carry one just in case one attacks.
Food This item can be obtained from Fishing, killing animals or being bought from stores or other players. This is one of the broodoo victims’ weaknesses, so carry some just in case one attacks.
Woodcutting hatchet Many stores around RuneScape. The trees in the enclosure of Tai Bwo Wannai Village can only be chopped down using a Woodcutting hatchet. So make sure you have one handy.
Machete See the Woodcutting Guide for information on how to obtain a machete. Machetes are the only tool that can be used to cut back the jungle growth.
Tinderbox Can be bought from many stores around RuneScape. Can be used to roast spider carcasses to provide food while you are on the clean-up.
Spade This item can be obtained from many gardeners near Farming patches. They may also be available from general stores. Can be used to dig up goutweed tuber plants.
Armour Many stores around RuneScape, monster drops or traded from players. Some of the NPCs that attack you while you are on the clean-up can be dangerous if you are not prepared, so make sure your armour is the best you can wear.
Weapon This item can be obtained from shops, traded with players or from monster drops. Some of the NPCs that attack you while you are on the clean-up can be dangerous if you are not prepared, so it is important that you carry a weapon to defend yourself.

Holding back the Jungle

There are three types of jungle growth: light, medium and dense. When you cut back the jungle you will receive some spars. The type of spar you receive will be the same as the type of jungle you cut back. For example, if you cut back some light jungle, you will receive light spars. The number of spars you receive when cutting back one jungle growth is random, so you could be trimming two different jungle growths of the same type and receive five spars from one and eight from another.

Using Spars

There are different uses for spars. One use is for repairing the fence around Tai Bwo Wannai Village. Repairing the fence may use many spars, so you may need to cut back a lot of jungle. If you have spar in your inventory just left-click on the rotten village fence and you will begin to repair it.

Repairing the fence goes through different stages: partial fence, short fence and medium fence.

When you have completed rebuilding the fence a message will come up on the screen to confirm this. It will also state that you can either rebuild another fence, or reinforce the same fence. You can continually reinforce the fence after it has been rebuilt, so reinforcing one part of the fence once should be adequate.

Enemies

While you are cutting back the jungle you may encounter several NPCs that will attack you. These NPCs drop several new items when defeated, so it’s worth defending yourself.

Fighting mosquitoes will grant a small amount of Agility experience.

Green broodoo victim

Orange broodoo victim

Broodoo Victims

The broodoo victims that attack while you are hacking away at the jungle have a Combat level of 60. Each of these victims have a weakness that you can use to your advantage to beat them. So if you are not strong enough to beat them in combat or if you are low on life points you may find that using this weakness against them will help you. Simply select whatever item their weakness is, and use it on the broodoo victim, and they will lose a significant number of life points.

The blue victims are weak against food.

The green victims are weak against anti-poison potion.

The orange victims are weak against relicym’s balm, the anti-disease potion.

Broodoo Shields

The masks that the broodoo victims drop can be used with two snakeskins and eight nails to make a broodoo shield. Broodoo shields require level 35 Crafting in order to be constructed.

Broodoo shields have a special ability when used in combat. If you are fighting an enemy and you have your broodoo shield equipped then it will have a 1 in 10 chance of casting a spell on your enemy.

The shield you use will determine what its effect will be. If you are using a poison shield this will lower your enemy’s Defence. If you are using a disease shield, this will lower your enemy’s Strength stat. If you are using a combat shield, this will lower your enemy’s Attack stat.

Your enemy’s stats will be decreased by 1 point first, then by 5% after that. A few conditions apply; for example, the enemy has to be at close range, they must still have over half of their life points, and their stats must be at base levels for them to be affected.
The number, by the name of the broodoo shield, represents the number of charges left on it. Every time you use the spell, this charge will decrease by one.

Snakeskin Armour

If you defeat one of the bush snakes that attack you while you are cutting back the jungle growth, you will obtain some snake hide. Take this to a tanner to turn it into snakeskin. This snakeskin can be used to make snakeskin armour: boots, vambraces, a bandana, chaps and body. For information on the Attack and Defence bonuses given when this armour is worn, see the Ranged Guide. For information on how to make snakeskin armour, please see the Crafting Guide.

Goutweed Tubers

When you come across goutweed tubers when cutting back the jungle growth, dig it up. These can be grown the same way herbs can, so go to the nearest herb patch and plant it. Once this has fully grown, harvest it and you can trade the grown goutweed to Sanfew in the Taverley herb shop for other herbs. Alternatively, you can sell the goutweed to Gabooty in Tai Bwo Wannai and receive the Karamja currency (trading sticks) in return, or eat them for health and run energy.

Favour

While cutting the jungle back, repairing the fence and fending off village threats, you will receive Tai Bwo Favour. This favour can be exchanged for rewards indigenous to this island.

If you wear tribal outfits, then the villagers will recognise you and give you a larger percentage of your rewards.

Rewards

Redeeming Favour

Once you have a percentage of Favour, visit one of the villagers around Tai Bwo Wannai village and they will thank you for repairing the fence and dealing with the threats to the village by rewarding you with trading sticks. You cannot redeem trading sticks from the same NPC in a row, so use this time to either increase your Favour’s percentage or go to another villager and see if they are more generous. The amount of trading sticks you receive from each NPC may vary. The more percentage of Favours you have, the more trading sticks you will receive from the villagers.

New Food

When the jungle spiders die they drop spider carcasses. These carcasses can provide you with a food supply when your busy cutting down jungle and will save you Fishing for food.

To make an edible meal from the spider carcass, you first need to make a skewer. To make a skewer use a machete with a spar or arrowshaft, any variety will do. You will then have a number of skewers in your inventory. Use the skewer with the spider carcass and roast it on a fire. This will produce a spider on a stick, a nice tasty meal for hard workers on the go. For information about the cooking level required when making the spiders on sticks, please see the Cooking Guide.

Tree Enclosure

Also in Tai Bwo Wannai Village is a special tree enclosure, to the right of Trufitius’ hut. In this enclosure you will find mahogany and teak trees.

To enter this enclosure you will have to pay 100 trading sticks. Once inside, you can cut down the trees with a normal Woodcutting hatchet. For information about the Woodcutting level required when cutting these new trees, please see the Woodcutting Guide.

New Clothes

After gaining your trading sticks from the villagers, you can now buy from the General Store to the north-west of Karamja. By right-clicking on Gabooty (wandering around the center of the village) you can buy items from his Cooperative. Some of the items shown on the shop menu aren’t for sale, they are there so that players can sell their items to the shore in exchange for trading sticks. In Gabooty’s Tai Bwo Wannai Cooperative, you can buy various items including new clothes.

Gnome Drinks

Also available on Gabooty’s right-click menu is the option to sell gnome cocktails in exchange for trading sticks. If the cocktails are in stock, you can use your earned trading sticks and buy some. For information on the effects of each cocktail see the Cooking Guide.

Tai Bwo Wannai Parcel Service

This service allows players to send items from their inventory to their banks, at a cost of 10 trading sticks per item.
