Have you ever wanted to teleport to a location you haven’t been to for a while, only to find yourself looking through every icon to find the one you need? Our latest upgrade will put an end to this. The magic interface has a new feature that will enable you arrange your spells by category, and display either combat spells or teleport spells at the top of the interface. The default order will be the current, level-based one. This applies to all magic spell books.

The “you are here” button will now mark where you are on the world map, which you can open by clicking on the globe next to the minimap in the top-right-hand corner. This should make it easier for you to plan your journeys, as you’ll have a much clearer idea of your starting point.

One idea that came from the forums was to add a new teleport option to the ring of duelling so that it takes you to the Fist of Guthix minigame, and also to make the ring react more quickly when it has been activated. So we did exactly that! Thanks for the idea.

We’ve also made a small change to PvP worlds, so now the Teleport Block spell will be available to all players, not just members (although its level and rune requirements will stay the same).

Finally, it is now easier to ask gardeners to chop down trees for you, the LootShare radius is larger (and more symmetrical) than before, and Pikkupstix can now enchant the Slayer helmet for use as a Summoning headdress.

The full list of this week’s patches and fixes is available in the Recent Updates forum.

Enjoy these upgrades, and let us know what you think.

In other news…

You can now refill your plant pots from Farming patches even if you have a crop growing on the patch.

If you need crushed gemstone, such as in the Fairy Tale Part I quest, you can now get it by smashing opals, jade and red topaz with a hammer.

If you completed the Hazeel Cult quest by supporting Hazeel but have lost the Mark of Hazeel, you can now get another one from Clivet.

The “Empty” option on pots of bonemeal has been placed below the “Use” option, so that you don’t accidentally empty them quite so often.

Players are no longer allowed to sit around Fletching and alching things while they’re meant to be participating in the Great Orb Project.

It seems that some players have been wielding ‘fun’ weapons in single-way PvP to increase their drop potential. We’ve changed this so that any players with ‘fun’ weapons no longer increase their potential.

Ever tried to find a world to play on in the US and not known which would be suitable? Well, now we’ve added several of the states in which RuneScape is most popular to the world-select page. Even if your state isn’t on the list, why not log in to one of the others? This change doesn’t affect the world numbers available, and there’s nothing to stop you from playing on whichever world you choose.

Christmas 2008 Event Guide

Times are grave this Wintumber… Jack Frost has escaped from the Land of Snow and seems intent upon bringing misery to all those around him. What else could you expect from a surly teenager with a rebellious streak? As if things weren’t bad enough, Santa seems to have gone missing…

The Queen of Snow is eager to see Jack back in the Land of Snow, and has sent some snow imps to look for her wayward son. Imps occasionally have problems sticking to task at hand (why do some dreary chore when you could be playing pranks on humans, after all?) and could do with some direction.

To start the event, you’ll first have to find one of the snow imps. There are three especially important imps, who don’t have to bother with moving around, stationed at the scenes of some of Jack Frost’s vandalism. You can find them in the following locations:

North of Rimmington

North of Falador

North of Lumbridge

The snow imps will gladly tell you of their woes, and, if you’d like to help out, they’ll provide you with an icy necklace that you can use to summon one of their more proactive friends.

To get started hunting for the nefarious adolescent, wear the necklace and right-click to ‘Operate’ it. You’ll suddenly discover that a snow imp has appeared to give you a hand. Snow imps are naturally aware of extraordinary cold, and can tell when they’re heading towards someone as cold as Jack Frost. As you start moving around, you’ll be able to click on your imp to check whether you’re getting hotter or colder - follow the imp’s directions and you shouldn’t go wrong.
When you’ve tracked him down, your imp will let you know what you have to do to end his reign of icy terror - he’s not a real villain, he’s just a very naughty boy. With the family reunion complete, you’ll receive your reward and can continue on your merry way about RuneScape, comfortable with the knowledge that you’ve certainly saved the world from a cold and lonely Christmas!

Nov 26, 2008 - While Guthix Sleeps
Posted by CmafaiMovario licked his dry, cracked lips, not taking his eyes off the ancient book in front of him. His hand, acting almost like a separate entity, scratched spidery notes onto parchment. He knew who V was, but the references to the stone intrigued him. Fragmentary thoughts were gathering, forming up together into something important - but something was missing, some key detail. With trembling fingers he turned the yellowed page.

“The stone was clearly not of this world…”

A triumphant scratch of Movario’s quill tore through the parchment. That was it! After all this time his research was finally bearing fruit!

The antiquated surroundings of the temple afforded little warmth, and the only luxury was the lone, guttering candle by which he read. The chill still reached inside, but it did not register for Movario as his unyielding research ground on through the days.

The Quick Chat menu wasn’t showing some of the minigames available to play when trying to organise a group. This issue has been resolved.

You will now find that entering the chaos portal in the Dagon’Hai caves works with an omni-talisman. The omni-staff and -tiara were fine, but this one was missed and has now been added accordingly.

The abyssal parasite familiar will now prevent your Prayer from being drained when teleporting into the abyss, exactly as it’s supposed to.

Free players who had started the recent Hallowe’en quest, Swept Away, but managed to misplace their broom couldn’t chat to Maggie to get another. Rest assured, Wendy is now ready to send you to Maggie who will replace your broom should you lose it again.

15 October 2008 - Improvements to the game log-in process

Today we’ve streamlined the way you get into the game. The aim is to help you get playing more quickly with fewer pages to go through every time. To start the game, simply click one of the two new buttons on the front page (depending on whether you’re a free player or a member). You will then be taken straight into the game. Once the game has loaded, you will be able to (optionally) choose both your world and detail level directly from the title screen.

More details on the changes made:

  • World selection has now been moved entirely in game, so there is one less page to go through to start the game and you can get playing faster.
  • We’ve had a world switcher in-game for a while, but since it is now the main way of choosing your world, it was time for an upgrade. The in-game world switcher now shows lots of extra information, including suggested activities for various worlds

log_in_screen.jpgThis is the new-look log-in screen with World Select and Detail Select highlighted

  • Automatic world selection. Just press ‘Log in’ on the title screen, and the game will automatically choose a suitable world for you. If you want to play on a specific world, just choose it from the world switcher first, and then press ‘Log in’.
  • Favourite worlds. The in-game world switcher now lets you select up to 2 worlds as your favourites. For example, you could set one favourite as your non-PvP homeworld and one as your PvP battle world. Once you have set up your favourite worlds from the world switcher, you will see extra buttons for them directly on the title screen, you can then click on those buttons to go straight to your favourite world.
  • Members see less adverts. Because of the above changes, we’ve been able to remove adverts for members playing on free worlds as long as you use the ‘Members’ button on the front page to log-in – we hope you enjoy the change!
  • The detail selection option has also been moved into the game. Again, this means there is one less page to go through to start the game, and gets you playing faster. This also means that you can now switch modes more easily without having to reload the game. The game will remember your last selection, so you no longer have to keep making the same choice over and over again.
  • The ’safe mode’ feature is now automatic. If your game fails to load for any reason, it will detect the failure the next time you load it, and automatically activate safe mode. If you want to force safe mode, then you can still do so by pressing the ’s’ key on your keyboard while the game is loading. Safe mode has also now been adjusted to only make the minimum changes needed to get the title screen to load: if you want to change any other options you should do so yourself from the ‘Graphics Options’ menu on the title screen before logging in. Your choices will then be remembered for next time.
  • Unsigned mode is automatic. We’ve removed the ‘unsigned’ option from the Java options menu. Don’t worry, you can still access the unsigned applet if you need to. We’ve made the selection process for it automatic. If the game cannot load in signed mode (either because you didn’t grant it permission, or your security settings do not allow you to grant it permission) it will fall back to the unsigned version, you don’t need to do anything for this to happen.

    Warning!

PvP worlds are dangerous and gravestones do not appear. If you die in a PvP world you will lose your items, so only bring items you are willing to lose.

    Introduction

And Lumbridge used to be such a nice place…

RuneScape isn’t just about getting your skills up and accumulating wealth, or going on grand quests and playing minigames - sometimes it’s all about proving yourself to be the mightiest warrior, most powerful sorcerer or the most keen-eyed of the rangers.

PvP Worlds are whole worlds in which you can sate your desire to fight against the most deadly of foes: other players. The rules are few and the battlefield is vast; great glory can be won and items of power recovered from your victims’ corpses; with almost the entirety of the world open to you, where will you choose to hunt?

    Requirements

You must have a Combat level of 20 (not including Summoning) to enter a PvP World.

    Getting Started

While you are logging into a PvP world, you will be presented with a warning and given the option to go back to the log-in screen to select a different world.

As much as you may want to jump right in and start the carnage, you should be aware of a few points:

    • The first time you enter a PvP world, you will be teleported to Lumbridge Castle, allowing you a chance to read over the handy guide that will appear in your inventory. If you lose the book, you can get a new one from the Doomsayer, who is also able to turn off the warning interface telling you how much wealth you are carrying when you log in.
    • You cannot take any borrowed items onto a PvP world.
    • You will have a period of time to prepare yourself after you log into the world. During this time, you are immune to player attacks. Your immunity will end if you attack another player.
    • You will also receive a similar immunity when you teleport or travel (using a boat, for example), but if you do it too frequently, you will cease receiving this bonus for a short period of time.
    • The drops you receive from your enemies are random, but the greater the value of your items, and the longer you survive, the better the rewards you will win. Click here to read more about how drops are calculated.

You can attack anyone whose Combat level is within a certain range of yours. This range is calculated as 10% of your Combat level + 5 levels (for example, if you have Combat level 90, you can attack someone 14 levels above or below you). Wilderness levels are added to this range, making it an even deadlier place.

Note that you can fight someone whose Combat level is outside your range if your Combat level is within their range. Basically, if someone can attack you, you can attack them.

If you can attack a player, their Combat level will be displayed in green, yellow or red, just like a monster’s Combat level. If you cannot attack them, their Combat level will be white.

    Safe Zones

Within PvP worlds there are a number of ’safe zones’. These are areas where players are prevented from attacking each other entirely. You can identify these areas by spotting the icon to the left. Safe areas include:

    • Banks
    • The Grand Exchange
    • Entrana
    • Respawn points (note that the Falador and Camelot respawn points have moved to the nearest banks on PvP worlds)
    • Skill Guilds with entry requirements (not including the Champions’, Heroes’, Legends’ or Warriors’ Guilds)
    • The beach you wash up on if the Fishing Trawler sinks

‘Safe’ minigames still allow PvP, but if you are slain you will lose nothing and simply be transported to the starting area.

If you are in combat and flee into a safe zone, you will see a ten second timer appear. During this time, you can still be attacked and killed, even though you are in a safe zone.

Some areas are considered exceptionally dangerous, because they are popular areas for players to go or because of the combined danger of monsters and other players. These are called ‘hot zones’, and are marked by the flaming skull icon to the left. There are advantages to being in these areas, however - the amount you win from kills will increase more rapidly.

    Death

If you are slain on a PvP world, you will respawn as normal, retaining your three most valuable items if you are not skulled, or no items at all if you have been skulled. As usual, you can use the Protect Item prayer to retain an extra item.

If you are the victor in your combat, you will discover that your enemies drop items. These items are randomly generated by the game based on how much your opponent was carrying, how much you are carrying, the difference between your Combat level and your opponent’s, how long you have survived outside safe zones on the PvP world, and how many other players you have killed recently. If you frequently enter safe zones, your drops will certainly not be as impressive as if you had spent the whole time in a hot zone.

Most of time, the items your opponent drops will be normal equipment such as you might find or make on an ordinary, non-PvP RuneScape world, but sometimes you will be the lucky recipient of special PvP world equipment.

    Special Drops

There are several types of PvP world equipment, each designed to improve your chances of defeating your enemies, or simply to help you earn even more experience if you dare to train your skills there.

    Corrupt Dragon Equipment
If you are lucky, you may come across some severely damaged dragon equipment. These have all of the same equipment bonuses as ordinary dragon equipment (click here to see a list of its bonuses), but can be distinguished by the faded colours. You can wear these for 30 minutes before they crumble to dust. Corrupt dragon equipment cannot be repaired. The following dragon items are available in a corrupted state:

    • Chainbody
    • Medium helm
    • Platelegs
    • Plateskirt
    • Square shield
    • Battleaxe
    • Dagger
    • Longsword
    • Mace
    • Scimitar
    • Spear

    Brawling Gloves (Members Only)
Brawling gloves are especially designed to temporarily increase the experience you earn while training on a PvP world. While wearing them, you will receive a 50% bonus to any experience you earn in the relevant skill while on a PvP world. If you use them in the Wilderness on a PvP world, you will receive even more - quadrupling the amount you would normally receive.

Brawling gloves don’t last forever, and will disintegrate after a certain amount of time spent earning the relevant experience.

Brawling gloves are available for the following skills:

    • Melee
    • Magic
    • Ranged
    • Agility
    • Cooking
    • Firemaking
    • Fishing
    • Hunter
    • Mining
    • Prayer
    • Smithing
    • Thieving
    • Woodcutting

    Ancient Warriors’ Equipment (Members Only)
In the ancient days of RuneScape, several great warriors walked the land. With all of the bloodshed in the PvP worlds, their equipment is heeding the call and returning to the surface…

These items all come in two states - one with full requirements that will last an hour of combat; the other with level 20 requirements that will last only fifteen minutes. Unlike Barrows equipment, none of these items can be repaired.

Every weapon except Zuriel’s staff has a special attack, which you can read about here.

Zuriel’s staff is capable of autocasting elemental attack spells as well as Ancient Magick spells. In addition to this, it gives mages using Ancient Magicks access to a further branch of the spellbook. You can read about these extra spells here.

    FAQ

Which areas of RuneScape are closed in a PvP world?
The following areas have been disabled on PvP worlds:

    • Barbarian Assault
    • Bounty Hunter
    • Castle Wars
    • Duel Arena
    • Fist of Guthix
    • Tears of Guthix
    • Trouble Brewing
    • TzHaar Fight Pit
    • Falador Party Room

In addition, you cannot use the Item Lending feature on PvP worlds.

How can I increase my chances of getting good drops?
Several factors determine the value of the drops you can receive. These include, but are not limited to:

    • Your Combat level.
    • Your opponents’ Combat level.
    • The value of items you would lose on death.
    • The value of items your opponent lost.
    • How long you have survived in a dangerous area on the PvP world (continuously re-entering a safe area has a negative effect on your drop potential).
    • How many players you have killed on the PvP world recently (if you kill several players in a short amount of time, the quality of your drops will go down).
    • Whether you are in a hot zone.

Drops will improve if you are carrying at least 75,000 coins’ worth of items (or 25,000 coins’ worth on a free world) that you will lose if you die - your three most valuable items are not included in this. To get better drops, your victim must also lose at least 25,000 coins’ worth of equipment.

Note that if you risk significantly more than 75,000 coins in items, your drops will not improve further, nor will they improve if your opponent loses 25 million coins’ worth of items - the values are minimum boundaries.

In general, the most important factors are the value of items you are risking, the amount your opponent drops and how long you have survived (ideally in a hot zone). A good tactic is to let your drop value build up by training in a hot zone for a while (which will be especially beneficial if you have some brawling gloves), then try to get a kill or two for a better chance of some good drops. Then you can go back to training to let your drop value increase again.

Note that if you die, your drop value will temporarily increase to compensate you for your loss, but it won’t get you the value of your lost items - it’s not a sensible way to get good drops!

    Behind the Scenes

    Posted by runescapecoin

Runescape first of April’s updates seems to attract abbreviations: F2P, PvP, OMG - all of these could be used to describe Fist of Guthix, our next combat minigame. We could say that this will be a safe, single-way, Wilderness-based game available to both free players and members, but that would ignore some important details. Attack strategies, defensive tactics, well-timed escapes: Fist of Guthix will employ all of these to create a memorable combat minigame.

Runescape Gold - There is a massive range of rewards to win for playing Fist of Guthix, so we’ll give you a wee teaser. The rune berserker shield, like most of Fist of Guthix’s rewards, degrades with use, but it also offers you some hefty defence bonuses and a Strength boost; the battle robe set will sometimes pay for mind, chaos, death or blood runes that you use when casting a combat spell; and the Runecrafting gloves will double the experience you gain from crafting runes of the glove’s type!

Talking of rewards, where could you possibly find a top hat, animal mask, adamant cane and black crossbow? It could only be the Treasure Trails, and this month will bring our next installment. Among the new weapons, clothes and hats will be some brain-twisting new clues to untangle, ranging across the medium and hard difficulties.

It is at this point in the month that the skies will darken, a fog will descend and a bloodcurdling scream will echo out. What could bring on this strange and eerie change? Ah, it must be the fourth in our Myreque quest series: Legacy of Seergaze! With no help forthcoming from Misthalin and vampyres continuing to collect their scarlet tithes, the Myreque have been calling on mercenaries to aid their cause. Meanwhile, deep in Paterdomus, Drezel has found something strange that could shed light on Morytania’s gloomy past…

Not so gloomy are the graphical improvements to the Morytania entrance area and the icefiends of RuneScape. Expect Paterdomus temple and its grounds to become more grand and foreboding, and the icefiends a sight more icy and fiendish.

A nod must be given to the website updates. The Grand Exchange Database will be released this month, having had its image issues resolved, displaying graphs and statistics of Grand Exchange market prices. There’s also a Summoning guaranteed content poll, the latest Players’ Gallery and the Postbag from the Hedge.

A number of Guthix druids have discovered an unexplored cave under the lower Wilderness, just north of Varrock. Inside is a new, one-on-one, tactical PvP combat minigame, available to both members and free players!

The cave appears to have been left undisturbed since the time of the god wars, guarded over the years by Fiara, a giant earwig and protector of something called the Fist of Guthix. Great powers emanate from this ‘Fist’ and the druids have managed to convince Fiara to allow them to gather charges from it. Being light on numbers, they need others to help them, which is where you come in!

In the spirit of Guthix, Fiara has introduced a ‘balance’ to this minigame. For each adventurer looking to absorb the power of the fist, there is another trying to chop, range or cast spells at them!

You and another adventurer must each take a turn being the hunted or the hunter. The hunted’s task is to survive as long as possible, storing charges in a stone of power as the time counts down, while the hunter simply has to defeat the hunted in as quick a time as possible!

The energy of this mysterious area has quite an impact on those who attempt to absorb the power from the Fist of Guthix. Even the mightiest of warriors will find themselves severely weakened as they avoid the hunter, making it incredibly difficult to survive for long. The cave does offer some help in the form of places to hide, but will this be enough?

After both you and your opponent have had a chance to be the hunted, victory is assigned to those who stored the most charges in their stone of power. Fist of Guthix tokens will then be given out, based on how well you did, with which you can purchase a wide variety of rewards, including magical gloves to help you boost your XP, spiked shields and many more.

Fist of Guthix is available to play on ALL free and members worlds. There is a list of recommended worlds on the Themed Worlds Knowledge Base page.

We have also put a cap on the number of players who can play Fist of Guthix on any world at any time, which is set at 250 players. This will maximise your enjoyment of Fist of Guthix and minimise any conflict from other ongoing matches!

    Summary

Where to start Fist of Guthix:
North of Varrock, in the lower reaches of the Wilderness.

    Requirements:
None - Fist of Guthix is available to both free players and members.

    Access to:

A new, one-on-one, tactical PvP minigame under the Wilderness
A new area the size of Ape Atoll
Rewards, including clothing with set effects, available to free players as well as members
A Fist of Guthix Hiscores table for those who have a rank of 500 or higher

    In other news…

Hunter pet variations have been added to many places in RuneScape. Monkeys, squirrels, raccoons and geckos can now be found in several different shapes, colours and sizes, so get hunting!

The Party Room chest has been changed to better reflect the value of the items that are in it. It now checks the items against the Grand Exchange market price, so you should find a more accurate drop party value in banks or the Party Room.

Having looked at feedback on the Forums, we have changed the ibis, granite crab and granite lobster so that they give a small amount of Fishing experience when catching fish - a nice little bonus, we think you’ll find!

A few graphical issues popped up last week: a pier in Neitiznot disappeared and a small hole opened up on Karamja! Guthix has restored the balance and these have been repaired.

Finally, a change has been made to the Culinaromancer’s chest and the gnome ingredients shop at the Grand Tree. Item prices in these shops should be more attractive.

    Treasure Trail Armors

Hove you ever wondered how to get a piece of fancy-looking armor with trimming on it, or how much these armors may cost? These treasures are said to be rare, since there’s only a possibility of obtaining a piece after completing a Members-Only Treasure Trail.

    ——————————————————————————–

    Some Basic Info

All of the special armors, known as “Trimmed Armor” are rewards from a finished RuneScape Treasure Trail. Different enemies sometimes drop Clue Scrolls, which when read will point you to another location or character in the game. Depending on the difficulty of the enemy you receive the clue from, the Treasure Trail may be more difficult, but the reward will be greater.

Remember, monsters will not always drop clues, so it may take quite a long time to find one. But, it’s always a great surprise to find a Clue Scroll after defeating lots of enemies, and then to find a great reward can be even better!

    ——————————————————————————–

    All About the Armors

Now that you know that Trimmed Armors are the rare rewards from Treasure Trails, you probably want to know a little more about them. There are 3 different types of Trimmed Armor, each one made out of one type of metal, with a special trimming around it:

    (T) - This means that the armor is trimmed or Tinted in a lighter shade of metal than the main armor.

    (G) - This is also known as gold or Gilded armor, meaning that the main piece of armor is trimmed in gold.

(Gu), (S), (Z) - These are the different god or Divine armors, including Guthix, Saradomin, and Zamorak.

Only 3 different types of armor are trimmed, which are Black, Adamantite, and Rune. Each of these metals can have either regular Trimming, or Gold Trimming, but only Rune can be a Divine type of armor. There also is no difference in the armor stats compared to the regular un-trimmed armors, and they give no added bonuses.

Treasure Trail armors can be worn by both Members and Free-Players, but it can only be found by Members that have completed a Treasure Trail. This means that the only way a Free-Player can obtain them would be to trade with a Member on a Free-Play server.

    Trimmed Armor

The most basic and inexpensive kind of Treasure Trail armor is Tinted or Trimmed armor. The armor itself has been trimmed in a lighter shade of metal, such as Adamantite with a lighter green trimming. Goblins, Guars and Ice Warriors will drop clues that sometimes lead you to regular Trimmed armor, but there are many others.

Runescape Money Cheats - Easy & Free Runescape Money Hacks for Runescape 2
So what’s this article all about, well the title sort of covers it; it’s the truth about free and easy Runescape money hacks for Runescape 2. It never ceases to amaze me what lengths players are willing to go to get free, easy Runescape money, aside of course from playing the game. Every day hundreds of people search for free Runescape money cheats which give them access to unlimited or infinite amounts of Runescape money. The sad reality is no Runescape money cheat out there that will change the amount of money you have in your Runescape account or give you access to unlimited free Runescape money. The only way to make Runescape money is by playing the game. What’s even worse is those that are searching for a Runescape money cheat or hacks for Runescape are often only directed to malicious sites owned by Runescape hackers whose sole objective is to exploit your desire to gain easy Runescape money and turn it against you by installing malicious spyware on your computer to hack your Runescape account and take what little money you have.

Free Runescape Money Cheats, Exploits and Hacks
Now there is always lots of talk about their being exploits in Runescape that people can use to hack into Runescape to make adjustments, and in the past yes there have been minor ones, but these Runescape exploits are extremely temporary and definitely not permanent features of Runescape with the Jagex staff constantly patching such glitches. Not to mention such hacking attempts have never been as exploitable to the point that people were able to change the amount of money they had or give themselves unlimited amounts of money, rather were more along the lines of being able to duplicate expensive items that they could then sell, like party hats. Now if you’d like to take advantage of the exploits in Runescape the reality is unless you’re the person to actually find the exploit yourself chances are you have missed the boat because as Jagex gets wind of them they are already fixing them, and if anyone on a website or forum is explaining to you that they know a free Runescape money hack and all they need you to do is email them your account name and password, rest assured they are just a runescape hacker trying to make you their next sucker with the old “I know a free Runescape money hack that can give you unlimited money” routine.

Runescape Cheats & Hacks for Runescape 2
Another big thing is people installing macros or auto that they use to do various tasks on Runescape that earns them money. It’s cheating but not really a runescape cheat that hacks the game, rather just plays it for you. Now it may have been true back in the Runescape Classic days that getting away with cheating, when it came to Runescape macros and autos, was reasonably possible, but with the coming of what is called Runescape 2 these means of cheats have quickly become obsolete with Jagex introducing many means of detection of the use of such programs in conjunction with Runescape 2.
