Willows, maples and magic trees all have their uses, but what of the lesser known vegetation such as the hollow trees of Mort Myre or the arctic pines of the Fremennik isles? With this week’s update, we’ve taken a closer look at the Woodcutting skill, rebalancing experience for the less popular trees and cultivating some new forms of training, but it’s not just XP rates that we’ve been analysing…

Teak and mahogany trees now also have a special log or two up their sleeves, which are worth much more than their weight in gold to the right buyer! Choking ivy has been seen clambering up the stone walls of RuneScape’s major cities and is much tougher to deal with than it looks. We’ve also tweaked arctic pine-splitting and put up some Prayer-refreshing hollow bark torches in the Haunted Woods, so get your hatchets out and your arms chopping!

Finally, the workers at the Lumber Yard are inviting high-level woodcutters to participate in ‘Sawmill Training’, where you can grab, slice and saw your way to greater experience. For more information on all of these changes, head over to the Woodcutting section of the Game Guide.

Hobgoblins were starting to feel a bit left behind in the looks stakes compared to their Bandosian brothers, so we’ve given them a graphical rework.

We’ve removed the doors to Edgeville’s furnace to make it easier to use, but moved the furnace two squares further from the bank to maintain the balance. You will still need to have completed the necessary Varrock Achievement Diary tasks in order to use the furnace.

You might notice a small new feature has been added to the Friends List (the ability to move the line separating players’ names and online status). This feature is associated with the Display Names update, which we’re hoping to release later this year.

How to make a defence pure on runescape.

A defense pure is a character with high defensive stats and low offensive stats. It is essentially the opposite of a strength pure. In this guide, you will be shown how to create a beast that can win almost any staked duel.

Steps
First equip your player with the maximum attack and strength bonus you can.
Train your defense with 1 attack and 1 strength until you reach your desired level of defense. Most free to play players stop at 40, while pay to play players stop at 70 or even higher!

Tips

Whenever genie lamps and books of knowledge are acquired put them on defense; this will speed up the process of creating your defense pure.
Make sure you multitask when your training your defense due to your character taking a long time killing the npc.
Before starting an account pick a good Runescape name that is memorable, easy to type, and has no numbers at the end (e.g. defil3d365406).
If training is going to slow you may want to increase your attack and strength a little.
Strength potions do speed the process up.
Use a power amulet instead of a strength amulet due to better accuracy.

Warnings

Increasing your attack and strength makes you less pure.
Do not train with an iron scimitar! Your max hit will be 1 anyway. Why not train with something faster, like an iron dagger or red topaz machete?

How to make a f2p star hybrid.

Name

1. Make a name. Choose a name that doesn’t give away that you are a pure. If you are going to be a bounty hunter, it doesn’t really matter.
   • Staker name example: pokemon556
   • Bounty hunter name example: R 0 0 N skim

Money Making

1. Since the placed the 3k trade limit in and you can no longer drop trade [wasn’t allowed anyways (= ], your going to need to make some money on your own. Since your a hybrid your going to need a decent amount of money.
2. k should be good enough. You probably wont need that much, but your going to be dieing in bh so you need to buy your stuff back.
3. You can make this money many ways but im only going to give you a few examples. One way is air running if you don’t like skilling much. This makes a decent amount of money but your going to need the rune ess first. Another way is wcing. Cut normal trees to oaks, and oaks to 41, then cut willows to make your money. Or you could powermine to iron then mine iron for money. You choose.

Melee Training

1. Go shopping. First things first your going to be doing melee for a while. Buy a iron scimmy, a mith scimmy, and a rune scimmy. Then, buy a set of monks robes, along with a str or power amulet. Power ammy is recommended. You don’t really need a shield but if you feel like you should have one, then buy a anti-dragon shield.
2. Now put on your amulet, robes, and your iron scimmy and head over to the chickens by draynor and fally. Why those chickens and not the lumbridge chickens you ask? This is because almost Everyone goes to the lumbridge chickens and almost no-one goes to the draynor ones. Train your strength to 30 with your iron scimitar at the chickens. You can switch to cows at 20, but then your probably going to need to cook the raw chickens because you only have 1 def.
3. So now you have 30 str. Now, your going to do the Vampire Slayer quest. This gives 3k attack experience which will get you 21 att. It prevents a lot of training. Buy about 20 salmon or 15 lobs and do the boring part of the quest. Once you beat the vampire you receive your 3k att xp and are able to weild the mith scimmy. Go get your mith scimmy and put that on. Now, there really are 2 paths you could take from here. You could get 60 str with the mith scimmy, THEN get 40 att for the rune scimmy. Or you could get 50 str with the mith scimmy and get 40 att for the rune scimmy. You choose, but it is recommended to just get 60 str then 40 att. Once you pick one of those paths you can train str at the al Kharid guards, but now you should buy some trout so you because you will be getting hit. If you choose to get 50 str then 40 att, you should get 60 str after 40 att. If you feel the need to you can switch to flesh crawlers in the security stronghold at 50 str.
4. Well, now you have 60 str and 40 att. You melee training is over for the low leveled f2p str hybrid.

Range Training

1. Now, you are going to be training range. Once again its time to go shopping. Buy a normal bow, oak bow, willow bow, and a maple bow. Make sure they are all short bows. Long bows are not needed at all. Next buy 10k iron arrows, leather body,leather chaps, leather vambs, studded chaps, and green dragon hide chaps. You dont need to buy the cowl and coif if you don’t want to but if you feel the need to, go ahead.
2. Now put on your power ammy from before, leather body, chaps, vambs, and normal bow. Bring along all your arrows, and the rest of your range armor and bows. You wont need a bank trip as it only takes around 4 hours to get 40 range. You can either train range to 20 at the cows in lumbridge or you can go to the varrock sewers and train on the rats for now. But wherever you choose get 20 range there, switching to the oak bow at 5 range.
3. Now, that you have 20 range, put on your studded chaps, coif if you bought one, and equip your willow bow. Now head on over to the scorpions in the varrock sewers and train on them until about 30 range. At 30 range equip your maple bow, and head over to the bar in barbarian village. Stand behind the tables in the bar and train there until 40 range. This is when you get to wear the famed dragon hide. You wont really have time to wear the chaps until you pk because now its time for mage. The most expensive skill in this guide. Just a little side note, you could get 50 range if wanted but you dont have too. If you do, just stay at the barbarians.

Mage Training

1. Mage training. Yuck! some would say, but the ones who are gifted with money would say whatever. But it is a good thing we are only going to 41. Why 41 you ask? Because at 41 you can use wind blast. If it werent for wind blast, most people would probably only get 25 for varrock teleport.
2. Your probably already guessing what you have to do now. Shopping. Im not sure exactly how many runes your going to need to buy, so your going to need to find that out on your own. Be a little independent =). Now, until 19 mage you can just stay at the chickens in draynor. Wind strike to 13 mage, and then fire strike to 19 mage. Now buy enough runes for maybe a a few thousand curses idk. Go to the varrock sewers and stand behind the skeleton at the ladder. Curse the rats until 41 mage. Its that simple.

Pking

1. Now, im going to tell you what to wear and bring while pking. You should wear wizzy hat, wizzy robe top, power ammy, dragon hide chaps, cape if you want, boots, dragon hide vambs. Now idk if you want to start a fight with range or a scimitar so im not telling you which to wear at first. But you should have a rune scimitar, maple bow and about 400 iron arrows, a str pot or 2, around 50 wind blasts, some binds, and the rest should be lobs. If you want some bounty locates thats fine too.

Staking

1. Now, im going to tell you what to wear when staking. Well since you can set the rules to whatever you want, you dont really need food, or pots. The best stakers know how to trick people into thinking that they stink. Just a lousy name wont fool them if your wearing pking items. You should be wearing some noob outfit like bronze and iron clashing and stuff like that. But once they agree to the stake and the duel starts, put on your real pking items. This is good for fooling level 30s into staking their precious “3k” to a level 40.

Steps

Get all the supplies you need: all scimitars up to rune except for bronze, get full iron, strength amulet, and some food. (You might also want to get some decorations, like a Team-19 cape, gold gloves, and fancy boots. It looks really good.)
Train up to 3 strength in tutorial island (don’t train attack here).
Go to the goblins and get 8 strength (this may take a while).
Go to monks and train up to about 30 str strength and then raise to 3-5 attack.(Note* After you kill one, ask another to heal you, this way you need or use less food.)
Get 35 strength and 5 attack, and switch to steel scimitar.
Switch to Al Kharid warriors.
Get 45 strength and then 10 attack.
Raise your strength up to 55 strength and keep attack at 10.
Switch to scorpions next and get 65 strength and 15 attack.
Move on to level 2 Security Stronghold and train on those level 44 zombies. Train to 70 strength there and 25 attack (but at 20 attack move onto mithril scimitar).
Now you are at the perfect level to bh. Rely on bh to train strength for now on.
If you don’t want to rely on bh for your strength train on moss giants.
At No. 11/12, train your strength up to 80 and then 30 attack (use adamant scimitar).
Move on to lesers and get 90 strength and 40 attack (use the one you have been waiting for: rune scimitar)
Keep training at lessers, and eventually your hard work will pay off: you have 99 strength and 40 attack
Now go bh; you should dominate.
You can also get some friends around your level that are strength pures to help you kill other players in bh.

Tips

A very good weapon is the Talisman staff. You can put whichever talisman on it you like, and it gives +34 str bonus. You will need to completerune mysteries (an easy task) and get 50+ runecrafting (an easy, but maddeningly boring task)
When training on monks, you don’t have to worry about food, the monks can heal you.
Do not listen to those guides that say you should keep attack and strength at the same level. Those guides are wrong.
If somebody calls you a noob (NEW PLAYER) put him on ignore, and imagine what he looks like in real life and put him in a pool of sharks (I’m just being sarcastic but some people like that idea).
When pking try to use swordfish instead of lobsters.
The main point of pure strength is keep strength high and attack and defence low.
Avoid places like the chaos respawn as this is a clan hotspot and high levels will usually hide out there
Never fight a safer, you will MOST PROBABLY get killed by safers.
If they safe, you may want to safe too…

Warnings
Rangers can easily kill pure strength.

Most people around level 75-85 can wear barrows items, but cannot afford them. This guide will show you how to obtain items that may seem unreachable to lower levels.

STEP:

Get about 500,000 gold from whatever you do to make money.
Obtain 500 death runes and the runes you need to use your best spell. Don’t get chaos runes unless you are using chaos gauntlets and fire bolt.
Teleport runes or tabs are a must.
Get full rune a weapon like d scimitar or dragon dagger super.
Get mystic robes and farseer helm.
Get range equipment(black d hide is best but if you are too low leveled use red or blue) and around 200 rune arrows.
Get pray potions, you must have level 43 pray. for level 70-75 use 5 prayer potions for level 80-85 bring 3-4 per trip.
Get 1 spade, and fill rest inventory with sharks.
Go to the barrows and pray on every brother.
Kill in this order: Dharok, Verac, Karil, Ahrim, Guthan, Torag.
Do tunnel last. In tunnel, you will have 0 prayer. Pot up two doses and kill last person.
IF DHAROK or any other melee brother there are safe spots in most side tunnels or use the invisible ladders and use magic using safe spot for saving pray and hp.
Use mystic robes and use magic on all melee brothers.
Use dragon dagger super special x 4 on Karil then use magic.
Ahrim range using magic short bow.
Use melee prayers against Dharok Verac Guthan and Torag.
Use range prayer against Karil.
Use magic prayers against Ahrim.
Guthan and torag may not need prayer against if your defense is 75+ and food.
Get 14-19 kill count.
Then go to chest in middle of maze.
Sell all runes and bolt racks and armor pieces of the set you don’t want.
GUTHAN ITEMS - these are the hardest to come by I only got 3 skirts and 1 helm but the Guthans chest piece is the second most rare, and the spear is the most rare piece.
You can make 5 trips with items I listed to obtain.

TIPS:

This is the only way to obtain barrows items without buying them yourself.
You can make tons of cash at higher levels.
Don’t bring all runes, only enough for 1 trip which is about 100 deaths each time.

Warnings

Dharok can hit upper 60’s with mid to low hitpoints. Always pray.
You have a high chance of dying the first time you’re there

“Clan Wars” is an update added to RuneScape to replace PKing. Instead, there are now ghosts. “Clan Wars” are when groups of people, or clans, fight in arenas.

Knock-out

Join a person’s clan chat in order to join a clan.
Tell everyone in your clan at the moment to spam “JOIN…” and then put the Clan owner’s name
Restrict combat levels depending on how high level you are, usually the max people go to is 90+ because not many people are 100+. Combat levels should be restricted because not many high levels will join your clan if you have 50 level 50- and not 100+s.
Stay together, unless you have a larger clan. Then you can split into small groups if you want, or stay in one big group to pile.
Place rangers and mages behind the low castle walls, and try to protect them because they have low armor.
Keep the enemy busy. If you see a couple people idling, have a portion of your clan break off and pile them.
If there are more people on the enemy team than your team, evacuate everyone to the farthest corner and Deathdot(see tips).Go against the edge of the arena into the enemy area, after a few seconds.
PILE. It is looked down on, but this kills more effeciently. A pile is when all members of your team target one person.
Pray, pot, and eat. A favorite catchphrase of mine, if you are losing and you don’t care about opinions, pray pot and eat. It is HIGHLY looked down upon if you do all three, ESPESCIALLY if you don’t need it.Do NOT do it if you don’t need it, it wastes prayer, potions, and food.
If they are hiding at their side, Switch to range or mage and hunt them.
First to –

Do all the steps above.
Attack low levels. I can’t stress this enough! They will drastically add to your kills.
Camp at their portal if you have the upper hand. That way, they can’t run and delay the fight.
Have the low levels stay out. They may not like this, but it’s the only way you can win. You can keep one or two to run around and distract them and to prevent the enemy from knocking you out.
Free for All

Do all the steps for ‘Knock-out’.
Go through the white or red portal.(Red is dangerous, white is safe).
Assemble your team, and find a team ‘base’. This can be one of the two towers, or the ruins.
Give all people who enter your team base a chance to join your clan. This way, you can expand it and own even more of the free for all place.
If they refuse, pile them. They will die in seconds if your clan is high-leveled and effiecient.
Move your clan base every once in a while so your clan doesn’t get bored. Let a couple people go out and kill, so they don’t get bored and leave.
At the towers, if there is no one at your tower, Tell your team to switch to Range or Mage (if they have it)And attack the opposite tower. Watch out for the other tower’s meleers that come up and attack your tower while you are busy attacking the other tower.


Tips

This is best done with larger numbers.
If the other side has more people, try to pile (all attack one person)
If the battle is pretty even or the other team has more people, then use the Death Dot. The Death Dot is when everyone stands on the same place so it looks like only one person is there. You can use this technique to kill anyone that comes close to you.
Stay together. You can’t pile or DD without your whole team, and they may get ’sniped’ and killed off one at a time.

Warnings
If there are more people on the enemy team than the method, This method is not guaranteed to work if there are more people on the enemy team than on your own. Keep moving together.
Piling, praying, potting, and eating is frowned upon. Be prepared to be called a noob, and ask if you can do the above.

All spells require rune stones, a combination of either air, water, fire, earth, mind or body. To get infinite runes of one type you need a staff. If you have an air staff and you equip it so your character holds the staff, it will provide you with infinite air runes, so say the spell needs 2 fire runes and 1 ir rune you will only need to pay 2 fire runes. Rune stones re-spawn rapidly at selected locations. The best way though I find to get rune stones is to kill dark wizards west of Varrok by the stone circle. They can drop 12 at a time if you are lucky. For beginners though here are the spawning locations:
Water Rune: In chasm in desert on way to Al-Kharid.
Fire Rune: In chasm in desert on way to Al-Kharid.
Air Rune: West of Lumbridge castle near a well.
Earth rune: North of Varrok Castle in middle of forest.
Mind rune: Go in castle and in ground floor on west tower on table.
Body Rune: Schmitar shop in Al-Kharid go to second floor.

Varrock training ground: Wild level 1-10 north of Varrock. Level 13 rats, player fights, Body Runes to north, Altar to the north.
Falador training ground: Wild level 1-10 northwest of Falador. Dark Wizards level 16 and 25. Wizards drop many runes, altar south out of wild.
Graveyard: Wild level 20, southwest of Skeleton Training Ground and northeast of Varrock altar, Skeleton level 25. Iron Dagger, Steel Dagger.
Dark Warrior Encampment: Wild level 13 northwest of Edgeville. Level 21 dark warriors. Runes.
Ice Mountain: Wild level 40 west edge of wild. Ice Warriors level 67, Ice Giant level 68. Altar to the south.
Red Spider Village: Wild level 30, north of Hobgoblin training area. Level 36 Red Spiders. Inside are Steel Legs and a Gold Nugget. They take about five minutes to regenerate.
Bandit Outpost: Wild level 22 northwest of Edgeville. North of Dark Warrior encampment. Level 29 bandits.


Ghosts training ground: Wild level 17 northeast of Varrock after passage guarded by Giant. Ghosts level 25. Planks, Tiles, Steel Short Sword.
Skeleton training ground: Wild Level 25, north of Ghost training ground. Level 32 Skeletons. Crossbows, Iron Scimitar.
Lesser Demons: Wild level 42, eastern border of Wild. Level 79 lesser demons, Nature Runes.
Greater Demons: Wild level 45, north of the Lesser Demons, two level 87 Greater Demon.
Ashes Small House of Spiders: Wild level 45, east of the Greater Demons, two Giant Spiders level 31, Sapphire Cut.
Hobgoblin training area: Wild Level 30, northeast of Graveyard. Hobgoblins level 32, mining area, Goblin Armor.

Maze: Wild Level 40, northwest of the Hobgoblins, King Scorpions level 36, Black Knights level 46, Steel and Iron items.

No magic experience game glitch: There is a way to complete tutorial island with no magic experience. When you get to the magic part of tutorial, drop all the runes the wizard gives you. Talk to him again when the runes are dropped and you will be able to continue with tutorial without magic experience.
Raising Cooking game glitch: In the tutorial, after burning the meat and getting another, keep dropping and talking repeatedly until you have enough Cooking.
Raising Ranging game glitch: In the northwest part of Varrock Castle is a door that looks strange. Stand in the doorway and close the door. Wait for a guard or warrior and attack it with your bow or crossbow. The guard will not be able to attack you because you are in the door.
