This is a guide on how to train at the Gorilla Monkey temple. This method is recommended for higher levels but pures can also train here if they have completed Monkey Madness. Note that this is not “AFK” training but can be used for very large amounts of experience at a time.

2.0 - Requirements

This method is recommended for higher levels from about 90+ up. Pures can also do this method if they have at least 43 prayer and have completed Monkey Madness, and/or have finished the King Awowogei part of RFD and are willing to take 25,000 defence experience from Daero.

Requirements:

60+ Attack
60+ Strength
70+ Ranged (if training Range)
59+ Magic (if training Magic)
43+ Prayer
Completed Monkey Madness up to the Greegree part

Recommendations:

85+ Attack
85+ Strength
80+ Ranged (if training Range)
75+ Magic (if training Magic)
60+ Prayer
Completed Monkey Madness
Completed King’s Ransom
Completed the King Awowogei sub-quest of RFD

Words in ITALIC are the best for fighting.

Have equipment like this when fighting the Monkeys:

Normal Melee Set-up:

Helm: Helm of Neitiznot/Beserker Helm/Warrior Helm/Proselyte Helm/Initate Helm/Penance Helm
Amulet: Amulet of Glory/Amulet of Power/Amulet of Fury/Holy Symbol/Unholy Symbol/God Stole
Legs: Proselyte Legs/Initiate Legs/Monk Bottoms/Bandos Tassets
Body: Bandos Chestplate/Initate Body/Monk Top/Fighter Torso/Proselyte Body
Cape: Trimmed Skill Cape/Fire Cape/God Cloak
Ring: Ring of Life/Ring of Dueling/Beserker Ring/Warrior Ring
Weapon: Whip/Dragon Scimitar/Saradomin Sword/Zamorak Spear/Godsword (Any)
Shield: Rune Defender/Zamorak Book/Guthix Book/Rune Beserker Shield
Gloves: RFD Gloves/Gauntlets
Boots: Dragon Boots/Rune Boots/White Knight Boots/Climbing Boots

And an inventory like this when fighting:

Attack Potions (Super or Normal)
Strength Potions (Super or Normal) OR Dragon Battleaxe + Restore Pots if you’re rich enough
Antipoison Potions (preferably super)
Food (salmon to tuna potatoes will do)
Teleport to Ape Atoll Runes and Banana
If you have a Warrior ring, Beserker Ring or Ring of Life bring some sort of teleport, such as a Teleport Crystal (from Mourning’s End I) or Ectophial (from Ghosts Ahoy).

Also, if you have completed the Great Brain Robbery, you can bring a holy symbol and the prayer book to heal poison. This is very convenient as the holy symbol gives you prayer bonus as well. To heal poison, equip your holy symbol and right click on your book and click “Recite-prayer”. This will not consume any prayer nor special attack energy and cures you completely of poison.

Alternatively, you could use full Dharoks to fight these monkeys.

Dharoks Set-up:

Helm: Dharoks Helm
Amulet: Amulet of Glory/Amulet of Power/Amulet of Fury/Holy Symbol/Unholy Symbol/God Stole
Legs: Dharoks Legs
Body: Dharoks Body

Shield: Rune Defender/Zamorak Book/Guthix Book (only when getting health down)
Gloves: RFD Gloves/Gauntlets
Boots: Dragon Boots/Rune Boots/White Knight Boots/Climbing Boots

Have a similar inventory as the one above.

You can also train your Magic and Ranged here, although you may need a slightly higher level to train effectively.

Ranged Set-up:

Helm: Archer Helm/Robin Hood Hat/Penance Ranger Hat/Helm of Neitiznot/Karil’s Coif/Armadyl’s Helmet/Blessed Coif/Third Age Range Coif/Void Knight Ranger Helm
Amulet: Amulet of Glory/Amulet of Power/Amulet of Fury/Holy Symbol/Unholy Symbol/God Stole

3.0 - How to get there

3.1 - Fast Way

Note: Pures cannot use this method unless you are willing to take the 20,000 Defence experience from Daero.

Teleport to Ape Atoll using the teleport runes. This requires the completion of Monkey Madness AND the sub-quest Awowogei of RFD. You will appear in the following area:

Climb down the stairs and you’re there!

3.2 - Slow Way

Note: Pures cannot use this method unless you are willing to take the 20,000 Defence experience from Daero.
Go via the Grand Tree.

Make your way to Daero, on the first floor of the Grand Tree. Talk to him and make your way to Crash Island. Take the boat to Ape Atoll and follow the map accordingly.

4.0 - Method

4.1 - The Monkeys

Level: 167
Hitpoints: 130
Drops: Monkey bones (100%)
Other notes: You will get a little more experience than normal when you hit the monkeys. When you get it to about 15% of it’s health bar it will automatically heal itself. This means that you can attack one monkey for over its usual hitpoints.

4.2 - Using Normal Melee

The simplest way to kill the Monkeys is to keep prayer on and attack them. Activate the prayers Protect from Melee, and the highest attack and strength prayers you can use. Alternatively, you can use Chivalry or Piety if you have completed King’s Ransom. Keep away from the spider respawn.

If you need to heal, step behind the pits with fire coming out and heal. The monkeys will not be able to reach you.

When the monkeys aren’t aggressive anymore, stand near the altar as the spider will not poison you.

4.3 - Using Dharok’s Set Effect

Another effective way to train is using Dharok’s. Let the Monkeys take your health down to about 1/4 of the usual and then activate Protect from Melee and other attack and strength boosting prayers. From then on keep a close eye on your health and prayer points so as to avoid death.

If you need to heal step behind the fire pit. Use this wisely.

4.4 - Using Ranged

You have two options. One: Stand behind the fire pit and have longer lasting prayer as there is no need for Protect From Melee. Two: Stand next to the altar or near the ladder and have both Protect From Melee and Eagle Eye (or another) activated. In both these methods you must have Eagle Eye (or another) activated in order to maximise the experience you get. Keep a close eye on your prayer as you have armour that is vulnerable to the monkeys’ attacks.

4.5 - Using Magic

Similar options as Ranging the monkeys except you use Mystic Might (or another) instead of Eagle Eye. For attacks I recommend Fire Blast and above, although training Magic at the Monkey Madness Gorillas is uncommon.

__________

4.6 - Other Notes, Hints and Tips

When attacking the Monkeys, try to avoid the poison spider respawn in front of the altar.

Note: Sometimes if you use the holy book of Saradomin to cure your poison it will not work. Look at the chat box carefully to see whether it has been “partly healed” or “healed”.

The spider respawns here:

Warning: When fighting, do not get behind any of the “bearded” Monkeys. They will block your way and your prayer will eventually drain, leaving you vulnerable. There are 3 “bearded” Monkeys who are located around the ladder and trapdoor. Make sure you stay on the altar side of them. If you run out of prayer you may want to bring a prayer pot just in case.

As shown in the image above, avoid the highlighted area. If you do get stuck, climb up the ladder and run south west to the other ladder. This ladder will take you back down to the ground floor.

If you ever need to escape from a Random Event or complete one, or heal, climb up the stairs next to the altar and deactivate your prayer.

5.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can pures use this method?

禄 A: Yes, they certainly can. Do not finish Monkey Madness. The alternative is to teleport to Ape Atoll after completing Monkey Madness AND the King Awowogei part of RFD. But you MUST be willing to take 25,000 defence experience from Daero.

Q: How much experience an hour can I earn there?

禄 A: At least 60k with a regular attack and strength potion, and prayers activated with the correct set-up (hopefullly).

Q: Why monkeys?

禄 A: The gorillas are usually a very empty area to train. They also heal themselves like Monks, making them excellent for farming large amounts of experience. Using prayer on these also negates the need for any food or proper armour.
