1.0 Melee Training
Melee is probably the mostly widely used form of combat with players and NPCs. It’s a “one time fee” so to speak, as once you buy your armor and weapon, you will not need to buy more things such arrows or runes - for the most part; things like Barrows armor don’t meet this rule. One of the disadvantages to melee is that unless you have a halberd, you must attack your opponent where it can attack you back, leaving you in a vulnerable position. Let us take a look at the picture below to show you what you should have equipped while training your melee stats.
Head: Beserker Helmet - Adds a nice strength bonus. Dragon medium or rune full helmets may be substituted here.
Chest: Rune Plate - Torags would be better, but this is simply cheaper.
Legs: Rune Legs - Once again, if you have the cash, use Torags, but rune is sufficient.
Left Arm: Rune Defender - If you’re too lazy to get one of these, an Unholy Book works well too. If you want more defense, go with an obsidian shield. A rune defender can be obtained via the Warrior’s Guild. Use mithril armor with the animated armor machine to get your tokens. Then go up to the cyclops and work your way up to rune. Don’t forget to show the lady your newest defender so she can set the cyclops to drop the next defender.
Right Arm: Dragon Scimitar - A whip would be best, but this is more economical. Lower levels should use rune scimitars or granite mauls.
Finger: Ring of Wealth - Best for getting nice drops, however a ring of life or recoil are alright as well.
Neck: Amulet of Glory - An amulet of fury would be better, but a glory is more cost effective.
Feet: Rune Boots - Best for defense/strength, but climbing boots are fine; they just don’t give good defense bonuses
Quiver: Nothing - You don’t need any arrows, you’re training melee!
Back: Obsidian Cape - Legends or skill capes are welcome as well.
Gloves: Adamant Gloves - These are from Recipe for Disaster. The best you can get are Barrows, and if you can tolerate finishing the quest, I highly recommend the nice strength bonus they give.

1.1 Rock Crabs
Levels to Train at These: 40-75 Combat
Food Usage (0-10): 0
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Poor
Experience Per Hour: 20-30k
Combat level: 13
Hitpoints: 50
Rock crabs are excellent for low leveled players. They have almost no defense, attack, or strength but they have 50 hitpoints. This means that on accurate, defensive, and aggressive settings, you will earn 200 experience for each rock crab you kill. They are fast and easy to kill and require almost no thought. The only disadvantage, however, is that they will not automatically attack you. You must stand beside one of the rocks, then it will attack you. Also, many people like to use their cannons here so you will earn experience slower. If this happens to you, just switch worlds. They hardly ever even hit a 1, so no food is required.
==========
1.2 Dagannoths
Levels to Train at These: 75-95 Combat
Food Usage (0-10): 6
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Poor
Experience Per Hour: 30-40k
Combat level: 74, 92
Hitpoints: 70, 120
Dagannoths are slightly more complicated than rock crabs. They are very fast experience, but do require food. Horror from the Deep quest must be completed to get to the Dagannoths. The best strategy is to go with the inventory below. They will pile up on you. Eat all of your food. Then go upstairs to the general store, sell 20 or 25 pieces of food and buy them back to un-note them. Continue until you are out of food or cash. The dragon battleaxe is for strength raising and you may bring super attack potions for even faster training.
==========
1.3 Giant Skeletons
Levels to Train at These: 95+ Combat
Food Usage (0-10): 4
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Fair
Experience Per Hour: 50-60k+
Combat level: 80
Hitpoints: 70
These are great experience, but you must have started Desert Treasure to get to them. Fortunately, none of the bosses need to be beaten to fight these. They drop herbs and some decent runes. There are dead ends through-out the maze of Damis’s Lair under the invisible ladder. Just pick one and whenever they stop being aggressive, run to another one. All you really need is food in your inventory.
==========
1.4 Fire Giants
Levels to Train at These: 95+ Combat
Food Usage (0-10): 9
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Good
Experience Per Hour: 50-60k+
Combat level: 86
Hitpoints: 109
Fire giants, while being great melee, range, and slayer experience use a lot of your food. If you could use Guthans here, it’d be great. I can’t afford Guthans, so I simply use sharks. I don’t recommend coming here if you’re going to use lobsters. It’s simply not worth how many trips you’ll have to take to the bank. With sharks, you can stay there a while. The drops are great. Another strategy is to go with Dharoks and prayer restore potions. Then just let your hitpoints get low and protect from melee. You hit very hard, but the prayer potions will cost you quite a bit. If you wish to use a halberd, you may stand on one side of the table or in front of the door without being attacked back.
2.0 Range Training
Range is very useful, and though it requires ammunition, unlike magic, you can get most of your ammunition back. It’s fun to train and enables the ability to fight higher leveled monsters because they can’t attack you back in most cases.
Head: Archer Helmet - This is alright, but a robin would be even better.
Chest: Black Dragonhide Body - Don’t waste cash on Karil’s this works fine. Wear the best dragonhide you can.
Legs: Black Dragonhide Chaps - Just wear the best you can.
Left Arm: Unholy Book - One of the best things for range. Unfortunately, if you decide to go with arrows, you can’t wield this.
Right Arm: Black Knives - A magic shortbow with any type of arrows in the quiver, iron knives, or a crystal bow work fine as well.
Finger: Ring of Wealth - Best for getting nice drops, however a ring of life or recoil are alright as well.
Neck: Amulet of Glory - An amulet of fury would be better, but a glory is more cost effective.
Feet: Desert Boots - They just look nice really. If you have the cash for ranger boots, get them.
Quiver: Nothing - Bronze-steel arrows if you’re using a magic shortbow.
Back: Ava’s Accumulator - Legends, obsidian, or skill capes are fine too, but the accumulator gets your arrows for you. Ava’s Accumulator requires completion of the Animal Magnetism quest. It gives a nice range bonus and makes arrows for you while you’re walking. If you arrows are falling where you can reach them, the accumulator will pick them up.
Gloves: Black Dragonhide Vambraces - These or RFD gloves work fine.

2.1 Rock Crabs
Levels to Train at These: 1-50
Food Usage (0-10): 0
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Poor
Experience Per Hour: 10-20k
Combat level: 13
Hitpoints: 50
Rock crabs are excellent training for low level rangers as well. It’s easy to retrieve your arrows/knives and it’s very quick experience because of their low level. There really isn’t much to say as they will barely ever hit you. Just switch worlds if you run into someone using a cannon. You have to run up to the rocks to get them to attack you, and whenever they stop attacking, run out and run back in.
==========
2.2 Ogres
Levels to Train at These: 50+
Food Usage (0-10): 0
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Fair
Experience Per Hour: 30-40k
Combat level: 63
Hitpoints: 30
Ogres are great range experience for rangers with a level of 50 or higher. Biohazard quest must be completed to access King Lathas’s Training Grounds, but it’ll be well worth it. I don’t advise picking up your arrows/knives, because it’ll just take longer to go in the fence often. Only go in if you see a good herb seed. The herb seeds will not pay for your arrows, but they’re still a help. I highly recommend this place if you want a peaceful way to get your range up.
==========
2.3 Fire Giants
Levels to Train at These: 60+ but 70+ is best
Food Usage (0-10): 2
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Good
Experience Per Hour: 30-40k
Combat level: 86
Hitpoints: 109
I say the food usage is two, because it’ll take a few pieces of food before they stop being aggressive. Just stand behind the table as shown in the picture, and get your arrows after every drop. The drops are quite nice, but these are a little harder than ogres, so it’s really your call. If you wish not to lose hitpoints upon arrival, attack standing in between the walls in front of the doors.
==========
2.4 Blue Dragons
Levels to Train at These: 60+ for Money, 80+ for Training
Food Usage (0-10): 1
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Good
Experience Per Hour: 25-35k
Combat level: 111
Hitpoints: 109
Bring 3 cakes or lobsters for the venture to your safespot. Don’t drop these until you have a full inventory in case you get hit by accident. These are pretty slow experience, but the 14 blue hides and dragon bones are very nice. The best place in Gu’Tanoth (The ogre city) after completion of Watch Tower quest. The Hero’s Guild is just plain slow and too crowded. Steel arrows are best here, but iron will do. Teleport to Caste Wars with your Ring of Dueling, then run to the dungeon. There are safespots at every dragon, so just choose which you wish to use, as it is a matter of preference. You may just bury the bones as you go and leave the hides sit, but you’ll make pretty nice money if you bank every time your inventory is full of hides and bones.
==========
2.5 Cannoning
Levels to Train at These: Any Level
Food Usage (0-10): Depends
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Depends
Experience Per Hour: 50k+
Before Hunter came out, cannons were the best range experience in all of RuneScape, and they’re still pretty nice. The downfall is their cost. They are very expensive, but extremely fast experience. The places I most recommend for cannoning are dagannoths, ogres, and rock crabs.
3.0 Magic Training
The nice thing about magic is that if you get bored with combat, you can use high alchemy or other non-combat spells to vary it up a bit. Magic is very useful with tons of non-combat related rewards.
Head: Mystic Hat - A farseer works fine too.
Chest: Mystic Robe Top - Ahrims can be used too.
Legs: Mystic Robe - Ahrims can be used too.
Left Arm: Unholy Book - Elemental shields are fine too.
Right Arm: Fire Staff - Ahrims, Ancients, or any elemental staff of your liking should go here.
Finger: Ring of Wealth - Good drops. If you’re in a scary place, a life is fine.
Neck: Amulet of Glory - This is good, but a fury would be even better.
Feet: Mystic Boots - Mage, or infinty boots are fine too.
Quiver: Nothing - Don’t need arrows.
Back: Obsidian Cape - God, skill, or legends capes work fine as well.
Gloves: Mystic Gloves - These are fine and cheap. If you are using Bolt spells, I recommend doing Family Crest quest and getting your steel gauntlets enchanted to Chaos gauntlets.

==========
3.1 Fire Strike/Bolt
Levels to Train at These: 13-45
Food Usage (0-10): 0
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): Fair
Experience Per Hour: 20-30k
Combat level: 82
Hitpoints: 81
I suggest doing this at the caged lesser demon on the top floor of the Wizard’s Tower south of Draynor. Bring telegrab runes for rune medium drops if your level permits it. This is pretty simple training.
==========
3.2 Camelot Teleport
Levels to Train at These: 45-55
Food Usage (0-10): 0
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): No Monsters
Experience Per Hour: 55k
While this is expensive, it’s super fast to get from 45-55 using this method. Just continue to teleport over and over again. Laws and an air staff are recommended.
==========
3.3 High Alchemy
Levels to Train at These: 55+
Food Usage (0-10): 0
Drops (Poor, Fair, Good): No Monsters
Experience Per Hour: 65k
This is one of the favorites of high leveled magicians. Even if you buy all of your supplies, you lose very little per cast, allowing you to do it a lot. It’s fun to chat with people while alching. The best thing to alch is yew longbows. I recommend using a fire staff and nature runes.
4.0 Prayer Training
Prayer is a life saver in quest and in PKing. You may get called a “prayer noob” but it’s well worth it’s advantage. You can do this the old fashioned way via big bones, or better yet, a gilded altar. I’ll explain all those here.
==========
4.1 Buying Bones or Killing and Burying
If you just buy big bones and bury them at a bank, you’ll get about 20k experience per hour. You might get 5k experience an hour for killing hill giants and burying there bones, but that’s very slow. If you’re going to use big bones, just buy them. You pay about 26gp per experience here.
==========
4.2 Gilded Altar
This is insanely fast experience. I went from 43-60 in an hour or so. Just use a high level carpenter’s house. Move your house to their location, house teleport use your bones on the gilded altar, but make sure the burners are lit. Glory teleport to Edgeville and repeat. While this may seem more expensive that big bones because you’re using dragon bones, it’s only about 6gp per experience. Very nice and fast.
5.0 Pest Control
Pest Control is the God of combat training. It’s probably the most popular way, and very fast. It requires 40 combat, though you won’t do very well there until 80+. You’re not going to get fast experience unless you use a channel or clan. #pcchans on the SwiftIRC network has a list of channels and the requirements to get in them. You earn points which can be traded for experience at the Void Knight. Please check out my Pest Control guide here.
