Keira Knightley’s star seems ever on the rise as early success with audiences in films like Bend It Like Beckham and Pirates of the Caribbean have segued into multi-award-winning roles in the likes of Pride & Prejudice and Atonement. In The Edge of Love, Knightley stars alongside Sienna Miller, Cillian Murphy and Matthew Rhys in a film about the fiery relationship between Dylan Thomas (Rhys) and three of his friends. Already attracting talk of another Oscar nomination, Knightley’s performance is being described as one of her best. The script has been penned by Sharman MacDonald, Knightley’s mother.

You’re an actor who enjoys a challenge; what was the challenge of this film for you?

Keira Knightley: You know, it’s really funny, it’s actually really lovely to work on something that was so intimate, and small. And I think that it’s very rare to get a film script that has such good dialogue. So it was a real joy, because a lot of the time you spend on film sets, you spend it really fighting to find out how to say the words. With this one we were already at another level, because it just flowed so easily.

Did it help to have friendships with the cast before you started?

KK: It really helped. I don’t think that you can fake warmth. You can fake lust, jealousy, anger; those are all quite easy. But actual, genuine warmth? I don’t think you can fake it. And it was really great that we did all get on. We had a great time all living in the same house, and we felt like a proper unit. So it means that when you’re doing something that’s incredibly intimate, you’re safe to try things out and you don’t feel like a complete dickhead!

How did you wrap your tongue around the Welsh accent?

KK: We had a really good voice coach. Half my mum’s family is Welsh, and I remember when I was a kid, she used to read to me, and wizards and characters like that always had a Welsh accent.

Did it feel strange working on her script for this film, as well?

KK: It actually felt very natural. If you live with a writer, you do grow up with their words and with their fantasies. And I’ve pretty -much seen every single one of her plays, so I’ve been in a lot of rehearsal rooms, and all the rest of it. It felt very natural and very easy, and lovely to do that professionally, as well.

Were you looking for something of hers that you’d be able to collaborate on?

KK: Not at all, it was a complete fluke and accident. It was literally just that she said, “will you give me some notes,” and I thought it was beautiful and an amazing story, and just really interesting. So I was working on The Jacket, and I just gave it to one of the producers, thinking he may be able to give notes on it, or something. He said, “is this something you’re thinking about?” And I only really said yes cause he’d read it, I didn’t think anything would come of it at all. So yes, it was fantastically accidental.

Dylan Thomas is not that likeable in the movie, is he?

KK: Some people really just go, “Oh, he’s mischievous,” and other people go, “wow, he’s quite demonic, and dark.” So I think it’s wonderful that it says a lot about the people that are going to see the film. I don’t feel we should dictate about him, I think if that’s your view of him, then that’s wonderful. It’s good to know that other people think differently, and that’s what makes the characters interesting.

champions challenge

Posted by coco

For an age, the Champions’ Guild south-west of Varrock has been neglected. Recently however, a trapdoor was uncovered within the guild; leading to its’ basement. Within this basement, live the Champions of each two-legged race; human, gnome, dwarf, elf, werewolf, and TzHaar.Through killing the weak and innocent creatures of RuneScape, you may well find yourself up against a challenge from a races’ champion. Each champion has a different tactic, and rule associated with battling him or her. To challenge them, you must agree to their terms, which you will be told prior to entering the arena.

Presently, this new mini game is an extremely pointless time-waster. Do not, under any circumstances, go out of your way trying to obtain a champion scroll. This is because obtaining scrolls is extremely difficult. Wasting many hours training on goblins, hoping for a scroll, will leave you disappointed at the reward for killing the Goblin Champion.

——————————————————————————–

2.0 - Champion Scrolls
Champion scrolls are the document that allows you to enter a duel with one of the Champions. These are obtained through monster drops, and presently, there are many theories of how to attain them. Please note you can only have one challenge from a certain monsters at a time.

If you’re really lucky, you may find that killing the weak and innocent creatures of RuneScape will end up with you being challenged to a duel by the champion of that race.
The interpretation of this, is that only lower level creatures drop challenge scrolls. NPC’s like goblins, hill giants, dwarves, Skeletons, and zombies, have thus far been confirmed to drop challenge scrolls.

However, as countless players become outraged by killing thousands of goblins, and not attaining a scroll, another theory comes into play. The theory is, that you can obtain a challenge scroll faster, by killing monsters closer to your combat level. Claims have been made on the official forums, that people have obtained a scroll after a certain number of fire giants, or lesser demons etc.
Once you have received a champion scroll, take it to Larxus at the entrance to the arena in the Champions’ Guild basement. He will tell you the rules of the upcoming battle. The rules could be you are only allowed to use a certain combat style, not be allowed to use a certain prayer or you will be not allowed to use a certain combat style. The reward you obtain is given to both slayer, and hitpoints.

——————————————————————————–

3.0 - The Champions
Name Level Challenge Scroll droppers Restriction Reward
Imp Champion 14 Imps (level-2) No special attacks -
Goblin Champion 24 Goblin (level-5) Only magic attacks 128 XP
Skeleton Champion 40 Skeleton (level-18/20/22/25/45) Only ranged attacks 232 XP
Zombie Champion 51 Zombie (level-18/24/25) No magic attacks 240 XP
Hobgoblin Champion 56 Hobgoblin (level-28/42) No melee attacks 232 XP
Champion of Giants 56 Hill giant (level-28) Only melee attacks 280 XP
Ghoul Champion 85 Ghoul (level-42) Only weapons, no items -
Earth Warrior Champion 102 Earth warrior (level-51) No prayers 432 XP
Jogre Champion 107 Jogre (level-53) No ranged attacks 480 XP
Lesser Demon Champion 162 Lesser Demon (level-82) No weapons or armor 590 XP

Once you have defeated your champion, you will be told how much experience you have gained. If you try to use the scroll on Larxus to have another fight, he will take it away since it’s already been used.

Once a person has defeated enough lower level champions they will be able to fight the Champions of champions. These Champions are of the races: Gnome, Human (Leon D’Cour - level 141), TzHaar, Werewolf, Elf and Dwarf.

blast furnace

Posted by coco

The blast furnace is a highly efficient smelting machine; therefore, it only takes half as much coal to refine ore than normal. By helping smelters you obtain a small amount of smithing experience, as well as other experience from whatever you are doing.
——————————————————————————–

3.0 - Jobs
When you enter the Furnace Room, you will find the Blast Furnace foreman in the south part of the room. When you talk with him, he will explain all the jobs in the Furnace Room. When each of the jobs are performed correctly, the furnace will start working and you will see smoke and steam come out of 2 pipes. Each of the jobs gives the experience listed below. Additionally, everyone working on the furnace will also receive smithing experience when ores are smelted.

3.1 - Conveyor Belt Operator
Running the conveyor belt is essential because it brings the ores to be smelted into the melting pot. Riding on the bicycle runs the conveyor belt. Doing this job gives 1 agility experience every half second, and requires 30 agility to operate. However, it is hard work to transfer heavy ores along a conveyor belt, so it will drain your energy while operating the conveyor belt. You can also drink and eat while operating the conveyor belt, so bringing a few energy potions will give you extra time on the bicycle.

3.2 - Furnace Stoker
The furnace stoker shovels coke into the furnace to heat it up. Without the coke, there isn’t enough heat to smelt the ore. Stoking the fire once gives 5 firemaking experience, and requires 30 firemaking to stoke the fire right. This job requires a spade, which can be found right beside the coke bin, as shown in the picture.

3.3 - Heat Pumping
Pumping the heat is a delicate job. If you heat it up too little the ores cannot be smelted; however, too much heat causes the furnace to overheat, which in return will inflict damage toward you by flames.

3.4 - Gauge Checker
Being the gauge checker yields no experience, making it one of the lowest jobs, it is not really required if you watch where the bars come out. If you are worried about taking damage and want to smelt efficiently get a friend or someone else to watch the gauge. When the needle is pointing to the green area, the ores will begin smelting into bars. Instruct your heat pumper to stop when it is in the low red and to start when it is in the high white. The gauge also displays a small “part broken” sign when something is broken, and needs to be fixed.

3.5 - Mechanic
This job is important because these people keep the blast furnace in working order. Understandably, a machine this complex is bound to break, and this one breaks a lot! Repairing the furnace requires 30 crafting, and yields 50 crafting experience when you fix something. This job also requires a hammer, which can be found at the back of the room. Broken machinery causes the melting pot’s temperature to drop, so fixing the machines as quickly as possible is of top priority. Having more than one mechanic is a very good idea, if you don’t want to waste time.

——————————————————————————–

4.0 - Smelting Your Ores
When the workers do their job, your bars should appear in the bar dispenser, still piping hot from being melted. Grab the nearby bucket, fill it with water, and cool down the bars with the bucket of water.

Grab your bars, and then either smith them at the nearby anvils, or feel free to bank them.

barbarian assault

Posted by coco

Barbarian Assault is a relatively complex members only, team-based mini game which was released in early 2007. It is located north-east of the Tree Gnome Stronghold. This mini game is a safe mini game, so you will not lose your items if you happen to die. Each team member must take a role in the game, with each role helping the other role. You have to keep in touch with your other teammates to help them accomplish their tasks, and this is done with a horn which you will receive at the start of the game. The key to winning Barbarian Assault is Teamwork. Teamwork is essential to beating each wave and the mini-game.
——————————————————————————–

2.0 - Getting Started
To get started, speak to Captain Cain at the entrance to the mini-game arena, and he will inform you of the ins and outs of the game, giving you a basic tutorial on each of the roles available and monsters that you must slay. To become familiar with the game, listen to Captain Cain closely as he explains everything you need to know. You’ll soon find out some good news - there are no items required! Also the mini-game has rewards to go with it, a list of these rewards explained further in 6.0.

Once you have finished your tutorial with Captain Cain, head down into the lobby where you’ll have two options with starting the mini-game:

Go to the room marked with a ‘1′. Either, make a team, or join a team. To make a team grab a scroll from the table in the room. Use the scroll on other players you want in your team and pick a role for yourself by using the ‘Write-role’ option on the scroll. Once you have 5 teammates (one role will consist of two members). Go down the ladder to start the mini-game.
Go into the larger room marked with an arrow. Once you go in you will be asked to choose a role. The game will start once each role is occupied.

——————————————————————————–

3.0 - The Roles
There are four roles in the mini game, with two people taking one role each. The four roles are: Attacker, Defender, Healer, and Collector, each being designated their own special tasks, and each having their own distinctive colour and logo. Once you start the game you will have a ring that displays your role around you and a interface with a ‘mouth’, ‘ear’, ‘penance creature’, and a ‘horn’. The ‘mouth’ tells what to shout from your horn, the ‘ear’ tells you what type you should use, the ‘penance creature’ tells what wave you are on, the ‘horn’ tells who you should shout your horn to. Once you’ve entered the game you’ll be given a horn, which tells the other roles what they need to be doing.

» The Defender’s horn will tell the healer what poison to use, and the Healer’s horn will tell the defender what bait to use.
» The Attacker’s horn will tell what colour egg the collector should pick up, and the Collector’s horn tells what type of combat style the attacker should do.

Attacker Defender Collector Healer

Another option if your role in the minigame is done, is to use the Great Horn, located in the South of the cavern. The horn has the ability to tell your team what things they must drop, use or what attack style to fight with.

Each role is crucial to the other. It’s good to keep in touch with the role that tells you what to do. For a more in depth look at using each role to their maximum potential, see the strategies section.

3.1 - Attacker
As an attacker, your goal is to attack the Penance Fighters and Rangers, using any form of combat you so desire. If you decide to use range or magic, you will have to use the arrows/runes supplied to you. You also give and receive instructions to the Collector. As an attacker you can receive four options from the collector, they are:
» Controlled, Wind, Bronze
» Accurate, Water, Iron
» Aggressive, Earth, Steel
» Defensive, Fire, Mithril,
If you do not use the right attacking method, you won’t be able to damage the Fighters and Rangers at all. Instead, you will be hit with backstab damage, which ranges from 1 to 5hp. This also deducts points from your final score, so you should refrain from guessing the correct attack type. Always keep your menu in the attack type selection menu and keep auto retaliate off. When the type switches change your attack style and your character will stop attacking until ordered. While you wait for the collector to shout what type of attack to use, go ahead and shout his egg colour. This prevents your character from making you lose points 99% of the time.

As an attacker, you will be fighting the most and will require the most healing. It is a very good idea to stay near the healer at all times if you wish to survive and not lose the game for your team.
3.2 - Defender

The defender role is similar to luring with their main opponent being the Penance Runner. The Defender will use the blue coloured machine, which gives Worms, Tofu and Crackers. You lure the Runners by:

» Getting instructions from the Healer.
» Laying the bait instructed in a trail to the trap, keep the Penance Runner there for until the trap does the dirty work.
The bait will change, so keep in constant touch with the Healer. Sometimes the Runners will ignore you completely and run for the exit; don’t worry if one or two gets away.

The Defender can also lay barricades with logs and a hammer (supplied in the room), in front of the Penance’s cave, which will prevent them from coming in. Note that the barricades only last for awhile.

3.3 - Collector
As a collector, the main job is to pick up the Penance eggs, and load them into the egg launcher. These eggs come in three colours: blue, red and green, each with their own special effect. If you need to change the type of egg use the egg converter (Picture) located by the other machines (Note: not all the eggs will survive this process). The eggs can be fired using the Egg Launcher (Picture). The egg launcher is used to kill the Penance Queen on the final wave. It also can be used on any of the penance creatures. The following table shows each egg and its effect when fired at the Penance:

Picture Name Effect
Green Egg Poisons the Penance. This poison damages over time.
Red Egg Does damage to the Penance, between 3 and 4.
Blue Egg Stuns the Penance for a couple seconds.

The Collector receives information on what egg to pick up from the Attacker. The Collector also relays information to the Attacker of what style to use when attacking the Penance. The Collector is the only one who can pick up eggs and if you pick up the wrong one, you will be dealt some damage. The collector loads the eggs into an Egg Launcher.

3.4 - Healer
The Healer is very important in the game, their main foe being the Penance Healers. Their job consists of healing other players, so that no one dies during the game, and poisoning Penance healers. To heal a fellow member, use the green machine to obtain a vial (limit one vial). Use ‘Take from’ on the green pool in the west part of arena to fill the vial; you will obtain a filled vial that can heal other players. The green pool can also be used to heal yourself if you’re the healer. The healer also has a unique interface that tells the Healer each team members health (Picture).

The Defender will tell the Healer what poisoned food to use; tofu, crackers, or worms. The Healer will use the instructed poisoned food on the Penance Healers.

——————————————————————————–

4.0 - The Monsters
Throughout this minigame, there are 2 monsters that are attackable; the Penance Fighter and Ranger.

Penance Fighter

Combat (in order of waves): 30, 31, 37, 42, 47, 56, 61, 68, 77, 61
Race: Beast
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee
Examine: What on runescape is that?

Drops: Red, green and blue eggs.
Notes: Penance Fighters can only attack using melee, making them easily predicatble. Fighters are not a tough as they look, but if you get swarmed by them it can be very deadly.

Penance Ranger

Combat (in order of waves): 21, 25, 32, 38, 43, 51, 57, 64, 72, 57
Race: Beast
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Range
Examine: Shooty-Shooty.

Drops: Red, green and blue eggs.
Notes: Rangers can hit players from afar, making them very annoying. Rangers are weaker and lower leveled than the fighters.

4.1 - The Queen
Half way through the 10th wave, the Penance Queen will arrive through a trapdoor in the floor. She can attack several units at once with a ranged attack that can be very deadly for the unprepared. At first her ranged attack will be slow, but powerful, the more and more her health goes down the faster her attack will get. This attack can hit anyone, anywhere, so a good healer will be wary of everybody’s health, including yours. To defeat the Penance Queen, your team must acquire an omega egg, which is the only way of damaging the Queen. A large number of eggs prepared beforehand is recommended. Each member of your team will need to contribute in some way:

Omega Eggs
The Collector needs to get the yellow egg and give it to the Healer.
The Healer needs to dunk the egg into the poison pool and then pass it on to the Attacker.
The Attacker needs to attach spikes to the egg from the spiked mushroom and hand it off to the Defender.
The Defender will now need to dunk the spiked egg into the Lava pools and hand it off to the Collector.
The Collector will then load the Omega egg into the Egg launcher and then the egg can be fired at the queen.
Repeat until the Queen is dead.

Once your eggs are ready, you can begin your assault on the queen using the cannon. It’s advised to gather up a stock (around 7-12) before shooting, this way you wont have to repeat the process so many times.

Penance Queen

Combat: 209
Hitpoints: 380
Race: Beast
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Range/Magic
Examine: Run away! Run away!

Drops: None.
Notes: The queen uses a Range/Magic attack that can damage any players anywhere in the map. The Penance Queen cannot be attacked head-on and must be defeated by firing Omega Eggs at her. Players must have defeated all the other Penance creatures before being able to attack the Queen. Once the Queen loses more life, her attacks become much faster and more powerful.

Once the Queen is dead, you will receive your reward in Role points:

Note: Once you have beaten the 10th wave, you will need to go start at wave 1 again.

——————————————————————————–
5.0 - Strategy
Although the game may look easy to solo, it is impossible to win on your own. Your team will always need to help you and you will always need to help them by relaying messages, healing each other and, of course, defeating the penance. Teamwork is essential if you wish to defeat the Queen, where each part can only be done by a certain member. A tip for all roles, remember to shout out what’s on the ‘mouth’ icon. It can be extremely frustrating if the person you need to call for doesn’t know what they should do next.

For the most part, each role has a clear job. However, each and every one of the members of your team can use the egg launcher, which can poison, damage or stun all the Penance. This is usually the weapon that ends each wave, as wandering Penance Runner and Healers will be left. The egg launcher is also a crucial part to defeating the Penance Queen. When starting a wave, ALWAYS use the horn to call the right strategy, then collect the items you need. The following explains the best strategy, equipment and information for each role:

Attacker: As the attacker, most of your job will be fighting. So, if you are a team starter, finding high leveled players to be attackers is very important. Attackers are one of the easiest roles because they require very little moving. Although it’s suggested that the attacker stays in the middle, this way the penance will spread out, and it will be easier for the healer to heal the attacker. Armour with a high range and melee defence is ideal if you plan to tackle this role. A good tactic to staying alive is to avoid being swarmed, especially in later waves. Attackers will also need the most healing as they are on the front line.

Defender: The Defender must keep in constant touch with Healer. Because the Penance Runners are very picky of their food. The defender will be running back and forth to the restocking machine. It is recommended that the defender has light armor such as dragon hide and boots of lightness. Since the runners are picky of their food, leave a trail of their favored food into the trap. The Runner may change its mind at the last minute, abandoning its path to the trap. If the runner didn’t die (usually for not staying on the trap long enough) then leave two or more of the favored food on the trap, or stun the runner with the egg launcher. The runner will be distracted, so there’s time for the trap to do its work. Remember not to forget to block the caves the penance emerge from, this is a good strategy on the 9th wave, when the penance are at their strongest.

The defender should collect Defender items, then drop the first food near the Penance Runners, and food near the trap, then collect a hammer and at least two pieces of logs for fixing traps.

Healer: The Healer must keep all players alive. Also it is the Healers job to inform the defender about what food to drop and to kill the penance healers by feeding them poisoned food. Always start the game by calling the food to the defender, then collecting the healer materials, then filling the vial and then going for the Penance Healers immediately, until you must heal fellow players. The best tactic for the healer is to make sure that team members run to the pool when they are low on hitpoints, this way you can in a short amount of time fill your vial with healing potion and give it to the players in need of them.

Doing wave 10 as a Healer means probably one of the busiest jobs, so it is advised to have a team with 2 healers to help keep team members alive.

Collector: The Collector must collect the dropped eggs and load them into the cannon. Playing collector in wave 1-9 is probably the easiest job. The most important job is to call the correct fight tactic to the Attacker as soon as it changes so the attacker can keep killing. In wave 10 the most important job is to collect 8-10 yellow eggs and give them to the healers to make Omega eggs. In wave 10, the Collector also places the Omega eggs also in the cannon, this is vital to win the game.

Starting any game as a collector start by calling the fight tactic and moving to the cannon hill until the first eggs are dropped. Note that blue eggs are pretty useless so when you run out of inventory space just destroy the blue eggs. The red eggs can be considered the most important. Be careful not to pick up the wrong eggs, or eggs when your inventory is full. The eggs will explode, dealing 5 damage

——————————————————————————–

6.0 - Rewards
There are several rewards for this minigame which can be bought using your Role points and your selected Role points. The maximum amount of points you can have in each role is 500. All rewards, including the gambling ones can be bought from Commander Connad near the entrance to the minigame arena.

6.2 - Extra Rewards
Commander Connad has two extra rewards apart from the armours, levels and gambling. With 200 points in a selected role, you can buy that role’s “level 2″ from the Commander. With 300, you can get to “level 3″ in that role and so forth to level 5.Having a higher level in role makes the role more efficient and increases your chance at winning waves. The following table shows the benefit of each level:

Role Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Attacker +1 damage against Penance +2 +3 +4 +5
Defender Penance Runners see/move to bait more often/further Increase from level 1 Increase from level 2 Increase from level 3 Increase from level 4

Healer 1 dose heals 10hp 1 dose heals 15hp 1 dose heals 20hp 1 dose heals 25hp 1 dose heals 35hp

Apart from the levels, you can also choose to gamble your points. This is extremely risky, but if you win, the rewards are great. The first two gamble types (200 and 400 honour points) give the possibility of winning a random item, but the third gamble type (500 honour points) gives a slight chance of receiving a Dragon Chainbody, though it is unlikely. Gambling in the third category also requires the completion of the minigame and having defeated the Queen.

In RuneScape, thieving is a very diverse skill. You can pick locks, loot chests, steal from stalls, and even pick pocket certain people. All these acts can be very rewarding; however, they are still dangerous since there are always characters on the lookout for annoying thieves. A level 99 thief wrote this guide, providing all the best locations and strategies to help you level faster.

Lock Picking
Throughout the RuneScape world, you will find that you are unable to open certain doors. If you are lucky, the door you are trying to pass through can be pick locked. To pick a lock, simply right click on the door and select “Pick Lock.” If you are successful the door will open you will automatically walk through. If you fail, you will have to try again.

Successfully opening some locked doors requires you to have a lockpick in your inventory in order to pick their locks. You can obtain lock picks from other players, or pick pocketed from bandits and rogues. Martin Thwait in the Rogue’s Den also sells lock picks.

Chest Looting
Unlike doors, the chests you are able to thieve from in RuneScape are not safe. If you do not take care when thieving from chest, the traps hidden in them will hurt you. To find a trap on a chest, right click on it and select “Search for Traps.” Your character will automatically find the trap and disarm it if your thieving level is high enough.

To add onto the danger of thieving from chests, you have a chance of getting a poison cloud any time you search for a trap. The cloud doesn’t poison you, but it can do a little bit of damage so be sure to take along some food if you plan on thieving from these chests.

Please note that when you loot the Paladin and Blood Rune chests, you will be teleported outside their containing buildings. For the most part, chests do not give very good experience. The only chest that is really worth thieving is the Blood Rune Chest since it produces a fair amount of profit on top of the experience given.

Stall Thieving
In the past, you could only thieve stalls in the city of Ardougne, however recently there have been many stall-thieving additions to the game. Stealing from stalls is a lot like chest looting; however, there are no traps on the stall. Instead, certain in game characters will be on the lookout for thieves like you and will fight you or knock you out if they catch you.

To thieve from a stall, right click and select “Steal from.” If nobody catches you in the act, you will take the items from the stall and they will appear in your inventory.

You may be caught by the stall owner or any guard type NPC surrounding the stall. To avoid this, try to stay out of their lines of sight.

When training the skill of thieving, the stall that require a high thieving level to steal from are not very useful because of their slow rates of respawn. I would recommend thieving from the Vegetable, Baker’s, Tea, Silk, Seed and Fur stalls for the best experience.

Pick Pocketing
Pick pocketing is one of the major aspects of thieving since there are so many characters to pick pocket around RuneScape. To pick the pocket of a NPC, right click on it and select “Pickpocket.”

If you are successful, you will have gained some loot and thieving experience. If you fail, the NPC will stun you. When you are stunned, you will be unable to move.

Remember the higher the thieving level you have, the lower the chance that you will fail.

Pick pocketing will usually bring the best experience for thieving enthusiasts. The best NPC’s to thieve from for the most efficient training would be Men/Women, Warrior women, Warriors, Rogues, Master Farmers, Guards, Desert bandits, Knights of Ardougne, Yanille Watchmen and Paladins.

Training Methods
The following steps are a guide to help level you thieving stat as fast as possible. Remember that they are just guidelines.

Level 1-5
When you first start out thieving, there is no choice of what to thieve. You must start out thieving men and women because they are the only thing you can thieve at levels 1-4. Once you have reached level 5 make your way to the Baker’s stall.

Level 5-25
After reaching level 5 thieving you can now thieve items from the Baker’s stall, which is the best experience at your level for a while. I recommend thieving from the Baker’s stall until about 25 thieving. Then you can take your shot at warriors.

Level 25-42
Finally, you can thieve more things around the RuneScape world. You should start thieving warriors to get your level up then when you reach 32 you can try rouges in the wilderness. They are good experience, but you should probably keep going with warriors.

Level 42-65
You should be 42 thieving now and stealing from guards. Yes, the guards catch you a lot and use food, but they are good for your level. Thieving the guards in Ardougne would be the best recommended location. You could thieve some lighter food from the Bakers Stall whenever your health starts to get low. If you do wish to take a break from guards try the master farmers, easy left click theiving and they should catch you less than the guards.

Level 65-72
You can thieve without having to waste your own food! You should head down to the Yanille Watch tower or teleport over there if you have completed the Watch tower Quest and begin. If you escape detection every time you steal from a Yanille Watchman, they will give you some bread and GP. Although that sounds like a good deal you should probably bring 10 units of food until you steal from a few Yanille Watchmen or are a higher level.

Should you have done the The Feud quest, you can thieve Menaphites, provided you have access to the Menaphos desert city, using a blackjack at level 65. This can get you up to 150k xp an hour, depending on your thieving level.

Level 72-99
You can now thieve Paladins at 70 thieving, but you have two options here:

If you want to make a lot of money, you should thieve paladins to whatever level you wish.
If you want to make less money and get the best experience then you should go find a knight and begin thieving.
Whatever you choose it only gets easier from here to thieve things with every level.

The best and also the fastest way to train your thieving at this level is to use Pyramid Plunder. You can get up to 150,000 experience per hour at level 71 and the experience gets better by every new room you can access.

Other Information
Random Events

There are only three random events for thieving. These are watchmen, poison gas clouds and the pillory.
Watchmen: These can appear while doing any type of thieving activity. They attack you and your current combat level determines their level combat level.
Poison Gas Cloud: This random event only appears while thieving chests. Any time you thieve a chest you have a chance of getting a poison cloud. This deals a small amount of damage, but will not poison you.; much like the Undead Ones in Shilo Village.
Pillory: This random event gets you sent to the pillory where the game locks you in a cage and you have to unlock it to get out. While you are in the cage, a NPC will throw tomatoes at you, also other players can throw you while you are caged.

Tips and Tricks
When pick pocketing NPC’s always try to corner them into a building. Thus, they will stand still while you thieve from so you are not chasing them.

You should make sure that you let them wander around every few minutes, or they reset to their spawning point. In addition, if you attack your NPC by mistake just go up some near by stairs and come back down and it will stop attacking you. Another method to use that will ensure that you don’t attack your NPC is by equipping any type of bow, without equipping arrows. This will prevent you from accidentally attacking them.

When thieving, click to theive someone as fast as possible to get the best experience. If you get stunned start clicking pickpocket again a second before the stun wears off due to the fact it takes a second to register the command in game.

If you are thieving in Ardougne Center, do not bother to bring your own food. Just buy cakes from the baker on the server with the most cakes or just thieve.

If you are thieving from a stall try and lock the shop owner or nearby guards into a building so they catch you less often. However, it does not always help, most of the time it does.

Blackjacks
Jagex introduced items called blackjacks during The Feud quest. These are very handy in pick pocketing, because depending on the type of blackjack, it can stun your opponent for a certain period, allowing you to pickpocket them successfully, without them stunning you. Though you can only use them on the NPC’s in the quest city of Pollnivneach.

Rogues Den
Jagex introduced a mini game to train and test your thieving skills. Check out the guide on Rogue’s Den.

Sorceress’s Garden
Osman from the Sorceress’s Garden minigame gives very generous thieving experience in exchange for Sq’irk juice.

Pyramid Plunder
Pryamid plunder is currently the best way to train your thieving. The fast experience appeals to a lot of master thieves. For more information on this mini game check out our guide.

Other clothing
Those who wish to be a little more effective hunting, will be able to get Dark Kebbit fur from the Falconry Hunting Area. The dark kebbits can also be caught if you have 57 hunting. The fur can be made into Gloves of Silence which increase your success rate of thieving, but they require a hunting level of 54. The gloves degrade after time though and will need to be replaced.

In RuneScape, slayer is a skill where you must prove yourself against many difficult monsters. Unlike other skills in RuneScape where the training is repetitive, slayer is a very diverse skill. Slayer awards experience based on the completion of certain tasks. If you want to explore the map whilst experiencing the thrills of combat, slaying is for you.Another great reason to explore the slaying skill is slayer masters, who advise you on how to kill certain monsters. This information may help you in the future when entering the mysterious world of slaying.

2.0 - The Basics of Slaying
2.1 - The Process
To begin slaying you must talk to one of the slayer masters. Upon expressing interest in slaying, the slayer master will give you a slayer assignment. The slayer assignment will be to kill a certain number of a certain type of monster. Depending on the slayer master, your assignment could range from 12 birds to 190 dragons.

To help you on this assignment, the slayer master has also provided you with an “Enchanted Gem.” If you “Rub” the gem, you will be able to communicate with one of the slayer masters. They will tell you how many more monsters you have to kill, as well as the best techniques to use when fighting the monster. It is recommended that you always bring your gem along due to the information it provides. If you lose this gem, you can buy another one for 1gp from any slayer master.

When you are done with your assignment, go back and talk to the slayer master for another one.

If you get a higher-level assignment that you are unhappy with, you can get a new, lower-level one from the Burthorpe slayer master, Turael. He only changes assignments offered by stronger slayer masters.

2.2 - Slayer Masters
Around the RuneScape world, there are a number of slayer masters, which are all represented by the on the minimap. The tables below will tell you where they are located and what the difficulties of their assignments are. The list of monsters beside each master is the list of possible assignments the slayer master can give you.

Please note that you must have level 50 slayer and 100+ combat in order to use Duradel as your slayer master.

Slayer masters assign as few as 10 or as many as 199 monsters. The maximum number increases as you use higher level slayer masters. However, the minimum number does not increase, so it is possible to get 12 dark beasts from Duradel, or 12 birds from Turael (lowest slayer master).

4.0 - Slayer Monsters
When you reach certain levels, you will be able to fight different slayer monsters. Most of these monsters can be found in the Slayer Tower, north-west of Canifis, or in the Slayer Dungeon, far east of Rellekka. These monsters can be very rewarding; however, you must remember to bring your slayer equipment along in order to kill them. Note that killing slayer monsters does not give any slayer XP. The ability to fight these monsters at certain levels, is just a reward. In the table below, please realize that the level given is the slayer level required to kill them, not the monster’s combat level.

4.1 - Slayer Monsters in-depth

Terror Dog

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 100, 110
Hitpoints: 83, 88
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee

Top Drops: Granite Helmet and Clue scrolls (level 3).
Slayer Information: No Slayer item required. Level 40 Slayer required.
Training Effectiveness: Great with Guthans, but not bad with regular rune armor either.

Infernal Mage

Race: Human
Combat Level: 66, 68
Hitpoints: 60
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic

Top Drops: Black/red mystic hat, Black/red mystic boots and Lava battle staff.
Slayer Information: No Slayer item required. Level 45 Slayer required.
Training Effectiveness: Not too bad. They attack with fire blast, so wear armour that defends against magical attacks, such as dragonhide, Splitbark, mystic or Ahrim’s robes.

Bloodvelds

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 76
Hitpoints: 120
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic based Melee

Top Drops: Half of a key, Shield left half, Dragon Spear, Black boots and Rune medium helmet.
Slayer Information: No Slayer item required. Level 50 Slayer required.
Training Effectiveness: Bloodvelds are great for training! They have low defense, attack, and strength, yet they have very high hit points. When training here, bring armour that defends against magic, as they too are magical beasts. Any form of Dragonhide, Splitbark, Karil armor or mystic armour will suffice.

Jellies

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 78
Hitpoints: 75
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic based Melee

Top Drops: Clue scroll (level 3), Mithril boots, Rune full helm, Half of a key, and Shield left half.
Slayer Information: No Slayer item required. Level 52 Slayer required.
Training Effectiveness: Jellies often deal 2 to 5 damage. That said; you will run out of food fast. Bring magical defense armour (Dragonhide, Splitbark, Karil armor or mystic armour).

Turoths

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 83, 85, 87, 89
Hitpoints: 74, 77, 80, 81
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee based

Top Drops: Half of a key, Clue scroll (level 3), White/yellow mystic robe bottom (from the level 83, 87 and 89’s), Dragon spear, Rune dagger, and Shield left half.
Slayer Information: Level 55 Slayer required. Turoths can only be hurt with Melee using a Leaf-Bladed Spear; can only be hurt with Magic with the Magic dart spell, using the Slayer’s Staff; and can only be hurt with Ranged attacks, using the broad arrows, and a regular bow.
Training Effectiveness: These are not very for good training as they have very high attack and strength, hitting up to 11 regularly.

Mutated Zygomite

Race: Fungi
Combat Level: 74
Hitpoints: 53
Nature: Non Aggressive
Attack Style: Magical melee

Top Drops: Strawberry seed (4), noted super compost, nature runes (2), Rune full helmet
Slayer Information: Level 57 slayer is required to kill this form of mutated mold. To kill them, you must use some Fungicide Spray on them, like with Rockslugs. Fungicide spray, and refills can be bought from any slayer store.
Training Effectiveness: Not very good training, as it hits high, often, and you have to kill it off using the fungicide spray. The drops aren’t very good.

Cave Horror

Race: Beast
Combat Level: 80
Hitpoints: 55
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Magical melee

Top Drops: Black mask, Level 3 clue, various herb seeds, Sweetcorn seeds, Cactus seeds, Mahogany logs, noted Teak logs, Nature runes, Limpwurt roots
Slayer Information: Level 58 slayer is required to kill these beasts. To kill them, you will need a Witchwood icon as it helps protect you from their powerful attacks. You will also need a light source to be in the caves.
Training Effectiveness: Cave Horrors are not very good for long-term training as they hit fairly high at frequent intervals. They’re also spread fairly far apart, making it difficult to train effectively.

Aberrant Specters

Race: Undead
Combat Level: 96
Hitpoints: 95
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic

Top Drops: Half of a key, Lava battlestaff, Rune kite, Rune large helmet, Black/red robe bottom, many high-level herbs, Clue scroll (level 3), and Shield left half.
Slayer Information: Level 60 Slayer required. A nose peg is also required.
Training Effectiveness: Medium training. Aberrant specters are quite strong, and often hit high. Prayer potions are not required, but are helpful if you intend to protect. Bring along black dragonhide armour as it has a magic attack style.

Dust Devil

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 93
Hitpoints: 105
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic and Melee

Top Drops: Half of a key, Earth battlestaff, Rune arrows, Red dragonhide vambraces, Shield left half and Dragon chainbody.
Slayer Information: Level 65 Slayer required. A facemask is also required. You must have a slayer level of 65 and you must wear a facemask.
Training Effectiveness: Dust Devils are decent training for both melee and ranged, but they can hit quite often. They do drop ugthanki kebabs (heal 19hp) though.

Kurask

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 106
Hitpoints: 97
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: -

Top Drops: White & gold mystic robe top, Clue scroll (Level 3), Dragon spear, Kurask head, adamant platebody.
Slayer Information: Level 70 Slayer required. Kurasks can only be hurt with Melee with a Leaf-Bladed Spear; can only be hurt with Magic with the Magic dart spell, using the Slayer’s Staff; and can only be hurt with Ranged attacks, using the broad arrows, and a regular bow.
Training Effectiveness: Most effective way to kill them is with Ranged using Broad arrows and a safe spot.

Skeletal Wyvern

Race: Skeleton
Combat Level: 140
Hitpoints: 214
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: -

Top Drops: Granite legs, Clue scroll (level-3), Death runes (7), Shield left half, Dragon medium helmet, Dragon spear, Dragon Dagger(p+) Wyvern bones, Draconic Visage.
Slayer Information: Level 72 slayer is required to kill the skeletal wyvern. You must have a elemental shield equipped while fighting these to reflect their powers. If you fail to wear a elemental shield, your stats will be greatly reduced.
Training Effectiveness: -

Gargoyles

Race: Animated
Combat Level: 111
Hitpoints: 105
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee

Top Drops: Adamant boots, Black/red mystic robe top, and Granite maul.
Slayer Information: Level 75 Slayer required. You must use a rock hammer to kill the gargoyle.
Training Effectiveness: Gargoyles are pretty decent for training with melee, ranged or either magic. They can hit you often, so food like sharks and monkfish are recommended, Guthan is very effective too.

Nechryael

Race: Undead
Combat Level: 115
Hitpoints: 105
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: -

Top Drops: Rune two hander, Rune longsword, Rune battleaxe, Rune dagger, Dragon spear, Rune boots, Rune large helmet, Rune kiteshield, Rune squareshield, Rune platebody, Dragon medium helmet, Cut Dragonstone, Half of a key, Shield left half and Clue (Level 3)
Slayer Information: You must have a slayer level of 80.
Training Effectiveness: Nechryaels give a profitable drops and also fast experience. You can either slay them with melee, ranged or magic. There is a safe spot in the area. While killing them, they summon Death spawns (level-45) which can attack you, despite the fact there isn’t a sign of multikilling area. But don’t worry, you can still attack Nechryaels, while they’re attacking you.

Abyssal Demon

Race: Demon
Combat Level: 124
Hitpoints: 150

5.0 - Basics of Training
There is no easy way to train slayer like there is in other skills (unless you can afford a cannon). No matter what you do, you are always going to have to fight a large number of monsters.

The Shilo Slayer master gives out tasks of up to 199 monsters per task; most of the tasks are pretty hard to finish at low levels, so high combat level and good melee stats are recommended. If you are an average to high-level player, try to use the Canifis, Edgeville and Zanaris slayer masters.

Cave Horrors have recently found their way into Mos Le’harmless, bringing with them a Black mask. To gain access to the Mos Le’harmless Dungeon, you must have completed Rum Deal and Cabin Fever - you will also need a lantern to guide yourself through the dark caves. This mask gives a +15% boost to your attack and strength levels, however, only when fighting the monsters you have been assigned to as a Slayer task. The number at the end of the name represents the number of times a spell will shoot from the mask and lower any of your opponents’ defense by 10%. When the number reaches 0, the mask will no longer shoot spells, but will retain its strength and attack-boosting abilities. Make sure that you wear a Witchwood icon, else you will be dealt 9 damage every few seconds.

If you’re a skiller wanting to train slayer, it’s possible but difficult. You will need many rings of recoil. Turn off auto-retaliate, bring lots of food, and do Burthorpe tasks. This way, the monsters will be lower-leveled and you won’t receive any combat experience. Keep in mind that this is tedious, but besides experience lamps, it’s the only way to train Slayer on a skiller.

6.0 - The Slayer Tower
The Tower is located just north-west of Canifis. To access it, you need to have completed the Priest in Peril quest. The tower is home to some high-level Slayer monsters including the Abyssal demon, which drops the powerful Abyssal Whip. Located in the tower are two Agility shortcuts. The medium spiked chain climb requires 61 Agility, and the advanced spiked chain climb requires level 71 Agility.

Some of the Slayer creatures in the tower are aggressive, and can be dangerous if you come unprepared. See our Slayer equipment guide for the items you need to bring to defend yourself against the creatures.

Using Ranging can make money

Posted by coco

Using Ranging can make you some money if you train correctly. Ranged is a skill that lets you hit enemies far away using a bow as a weapon and arrows as ammunition, but there are also different types of Ranging. This guide will cover almost every aspect of it so you can use the skill to its full potential.Ranging is a skill that is useful for killing monsters, dueling, Player Killing, and getting good drops. Generally, you can last much longer at higher-leveled monsters ranging than fighting with melee, since you do not need food. For example, if you plan to get a Dragon Medium Helmet from Fire Giants you are going to want to be ranging them, not fighting with Melee. You can kill more quickly when ranging and also avoid being hurt. Ranging is also good for Player Killing in the wilderness because it allows you to hit other players from a distance, while Melee requires you to be right next to them to be able to attack. In addition, some Quests require you to have a certain Ranged level to complete/do them.

——————————————————————————–

2.0 - Basics
There are two kinds of bows: shortbows and longbows. Longbows cost more, and fire a greater distance than the shortbow. The shortbow is obviously cheaper than the longbow, but it’s speed is faster than the longbow.

Each bow has three special sub-attacks. For all types, you will receive hitpoint experience:

Rapid - You will shoot faster than normal. You will break more arrows when using this type of attack style.
Accurate - You will hit more often than normal.
Longrange - You can fire from a greater distance. The experience you get is split between defense and range.

——————————————————————————–

3.0 - Weapons
3.1 - Regular Bows
There are several different kinds of bows you can choose from, some better then others. To attain a bow you can buy one from a archery store, or if you are a member, you can fletch them if your fletching level is high enough. Each bow type is only strong enough to use up to and including a certain type of metal arrow as shown below.

3.2 - Crystal Bow
To attain the Crystal Bow, you must have finished the Roving Elves quest, which is a quest for members. Once you have done the quest, the next thing you need to equip the bow is a level 70 range and 50 agility. To buy the bow you have to pay 900,000gp.

The Crystal Bow is like no other bow in RuneScape; it is a very powerful range weapon. One thing that is unique about the Crystal Bow is that it uses no arrows. So how does it do damage? Well, it has 2500 shots. Once the 2500 shots are used, the bow will revert to seed, and you must to recharge in Tirannwn. The bow also has ten phases it goes through. As you go through more stages, your bow will get weaker and weaker. To check what phase your bow is in just put your mouse pointer over it and it will tell you.

6/10 +84
5/10 +80
4/10 +76
3/10 +72

To recharge your bow you will have to go to Ilfeen in Isafdar. Speak to the elf and pay a certain amount of money for it to be recharged. The seed can be recharged as either a bow or shield. At first, the price is outrageously high, but the price will go down the more you recharge it.

Recharge Price Table
Recharge Number Cost
First recharge 900,000gp
Second recharge 720,000gp
Third recharge 540,000gp
Fourth recharge 360,000gp
Fifth recharge and onwards 180,000gp

3.3 - Crossbows
There are twelve types of crossbows available in RuneScape, only two of which are available for free players (the normal crossbow and the phoenix crossbow). The phoenix crossbow is available from the Phoenix Gang’s weapon stores, which you can get into using a key you obtained during the Shield of Arrav quest. The other is available in most ranged stores, such as Lowe’s in Varrock. The advantage they have is that they are one-handed, unlike normal bows, and as such can be wielded with a shield. The Dorgeshuun crossbow is obtained upon completion of the Death to the Dorgeshuun quest.

Note: Karil’s crossbow is members only and uses ‘bolt racks’ as its ammo. You can find them within the barrows or buy them from Ak-Haranu in Port Phasmatys.

3.4 - Javelins
There are six types of javelins, all of which are member items. There are Bronze, Iron, Steel, Black, Mithril, Adamant, and Rune Javelins. These replace the RuneScape Classic Spear, which is now a close-range weapon. You can use weapon poison on it.

3.5 - Throwing Knives
These also are for members only; there are seven types of knives that you can throw at enemies with remarkable speed. Just like arrows, they are stackable. You can use weapon poison on them; in addition, you can equip a shield when using them.

3.8 - Miscellaneous
Chinchompas can be attained through Box Trapping, a form of Hunting. These are combustible and explode when they hit their target. They have short, medium and long fuses that can be changed to give a greater chance at hitting a target. For example a long fuse has a greater chance of hitting a target further away.

4.0 - Ammo
You can range with many different kinds of weapons and ammo; there are plenty of options to choose.

4.1 - Arrows
There are six types of arrows: bronze, iron, steel, mithril, adamant, and rune. Bronze through adamant arrows are for Free Players, and Members can use all types. Members can also poison their arrows by using weapon poison on the arrows. When you shoot arrows, you must have a bow of some sort equipped. Each arrow has a specific bow needed to be equipped. You cannot wield a Rune Arrows with an Oak Bow, for example.

In addition, a lot of the time, your arrows will break and you will not be able to use them. When your arrows break, they will just disappear while the ones that are already broken on the ground are nothing more than junk spawns. Your arrows will only break about 25% of the time, however if you use the rapid attack style, they will break more often.

4.2 - Bolts
Members have a wide array of bolts available for them to use with their crossbows. Players have the choice to stick with regular metal bolts, or add gem tips to them. The regular metal bolts can be poisoned, whilst gem-tipped ones cannot be - they can however, be enchanted using some interesting spells that are available through the Enchant crossbow spell.
For players who may wish to carry a number of bolts around with them, there are special bolt pouches which you are able to buy from a Keldagrim dwarf salesman. They are untradable, and will disintergrate if dropped, with your bolts appearing on the ground. The pouch has four slots with which you can fill up with 255 of four different types of bolts. To add bolts, simply use them with the pouch. Players are able to toggle between equipped and stored bolts from the crossbow bolt pouch menu.

Mithril Grapple
The mithril grapple is a tool used for scaling tall obstacles such as walls, cliffs and even small river inlets. Rangers can smith a mithril grapple tip using a mith bar, and attach it to a mithril bolt. Once you have the mithril grapple, simply add rope to it and then use it on whichever shortcut you want to bypass. Note that you must have a crossbow equipped to shoot the grapple. Also remember that there is a possibility that your grapply can break when being used, so keep a few on hand or in your bank if you intend to use these shortcuts a lot.

5.0 - Ranging armour
Use ranging amour to increase your ranged attack bonus so you will be more effective whilst ranging.

5.1 - The Leathers
There are many different kinds of ranging armour you can use, obviously some better then others. The two major kinds of armour that you will see people wearing are Dragon Leather armour and Leather armour. Dragon Leather armour, is definitely better then Leather armour, but is harder to make. To make Dragon Leather armour, you must kill a Dragon, and take their hides, then craft it.

Karil the Tainted’s Ranger armour
You can find Karil the Tainted’s armour in the Barrows, located east of Mort’ton. To get the armour you must kill Karil the Tainted himself, and then open the chest within the dungeon of the barrows. If you are lucky, you will get a piece if not a few pieces of this type of ranger armour.

One main advantage of this armour is the ’special effect’. If you wear all three pieces of the set along with Karil’s crossbow, there is a chance the special effect will take place. The special effect will lower your opponent’s agility.

Ava’s Attractor or Accumulator is obtained as a reward from the Animal Magnetism quest. When being equipped, and whilst holding no ammo in your ammo slot, Steel or Iron arrows will be made and equipped automatically. This, however, depends on your ranged level: under 50 you will receive iron, above 50 you will receive steel. You must be moving around for them to spawn, and whilst walking around RuneScape you may also find some random metal objects appearing in your inventory (med helms, ores etc). You get an Attractor, when you finish the quest with a ranged level lower than 50. You gain an Accumulator if you finish the quest with a higher ranged level than 50.

Its stats are: +4 Range Attack, +1 Slash Defense, +4 Mage Defense.

6.0 - Non-Member Training
At the beginning of free-play, training it is quite basic:

Levels 1-10
Make your way out to the chicken pen. There are quite a few.

South Falador Chickens

The ones under Falador and west of Draynor Village, also north of Port Sarim.

Not only do you get the ranging experience, they will die quickly and you can grab their bones for prayer experience and their feathers, which can sell for a good price after you get a couple thousand.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes, if ranging behind the lake/fence after killing a few you can just grab your arrows.

——————————————————————————–

Levels 11-25
After getting to level 10 from chickens, you may either continue to 20 on them, or make your way towards the cows, which will work great until around level 25. Another option to start off your training of Range, or to progress from 20, are monks which are a good training spot until level 40.

Crafting Guild Cows

These are the ones west of Port Sarim and south-west of Falador (near the Crafting Guild).

Good experience and you get the bones if training prayer and their beef for cooking.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes, kill them from behind the fence and when you kill a few, grab your arrows.

——————————————————————————–

Monastery Monks

Monks are found west of Edgeville and north-west of Barbarian Village, just south of Edgeville.

Excellent experience for low level ranging, and you can heal on them if neccessary. You can also pick up their bones for prayer experience.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes, shoot from under the roof and go out to pick up your arrows after killing a few monks.

——————————————————————————–

Levels 26-40
At this level, you can make your way to the Barbarian Village, just south of Edgeville.

Barbarians in Barbarian Village

Here you will find: Level 15 archer Barbarians, Level 17 swordsman Barbarians and Level 17 greataxe Barbarians. Stand behind the tables in the bar and shoot them. This provides great experience until around level 30, at which point it will get pretty slow, but it can still be used to 40. In a recent update the Barbarians and the Barbarian Village were changed around. There are now Barbarians that can Range you over the tables, obviously making this training spot much less desirable than before.

Great experience for free-players and it works well for people that want to train Ranged quickly. It is right next to a bank if you want to go back to the bank or grab some more arrows.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes.

——————————————————————————–

Levels 40-60
Guards are fairly good training at this level. Head to Edgeville and range the guards to the north-east of the bank. The guards at Falador center, and on the west Varrock wall are also quite good.

Edgeville Guards

The guards right above the bank in Edgeville. You can attack them from behind the gate, and they will give you great experience until level 55-60. This is the best place to train for free-players: it is usually not crowded, and it will be a great place for you to get up that ranged.

Awesome experience if you are 40 ranged and training on them, they should die quickly and give great, quick experience. In my opinion, this is one of the best free-play training spots.

Some other good places for f2p range from lvl 50-60 is in the security stronghold. The lvl 75 ankous and 27 Minotaur both can be ranged behind a pile of rocks or skeletons, or a fence. Each one also gives pretty good drops too - the Minotaurs drop piles of iron arrows very regularly, so you even stand to leave with more arrows than you began with.

Minotaurs are great experience as well, they drop loads of iron arrows and their defense level is fairly low, making this a great training place without losing arrows and getting fast experience. Moss Giants will also provide you with reasonably fast range experience. Moss Giants are located at the end of Varrock Sewers. There are various safe spots down there, so bringing food is not essential. It is a popular place to train however, so some worlds may be full to the top with other people.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes.

——————————————————————————–

Levels 60+
Crandor Lesser Demons

After completing the Dragon Slayer quest, go to N. Karamja and down the pile of rubble on the volcano rim. Make your way to the east. You will soon find a dead end, and past it, you might see several level 82 Lesser Demons. Here you will click on the “Odd looking wall.” Go past the Lesser Demons and level 45 Skeletons, as well as the level 22 skeletons guarding a rope. Go up it and you will be on Crandor Isle. Go north and you will find two Lesser Demon spawns.

Here you can sit forever and kill the Lesser Demons. Bring a fire staff and a few nature runes if you want to cast High Level Alchemy on some of the drops (Rune Medium Helmets and assorted Mithril items). You can also find some lessers inside the dungon but they might be a lot more dangerous to mess around with.

You will get great experience and great drops. This is the best high-level free-play training.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes.

——————————————————————————–

7.0 - Members Training
I would recommend you have at least 40 ranged, in order to maximize full advantage over training in members. If not, you could either train at the Gnome Troops South of Ardougne, or use the free-play spots.

Levels 40-50
White Wolf Mountain: Mountain Dwarves

This spot requires the completion of the Fishing Contest quest, and it proves to be a great training spot to about level 50. In fact, this should go very quick, and it should not be too boring, because it provides fast levels.

Good experience and quick levels, but there is nothing special about it. You have to wait until 50 for that.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes.

——————————————————————————–

Levels 50-70
You have two options here; one is slightly better than the other is, but you may not be able to get there.
Note: You could also try Fire Giants under the waterfall, if you have completed the Waterfall Quest.

Ogre Cave

This is the easier one to get to; north of West Ardougne, under the Chaos Druid Dungeon, are many ogres. You also need level 47 thieving.

Great experience and nice prayer experience, because of the Big Bones.

Tactic: Stand behind the rocks and range one ogre then collect the arrows and bones and go back behind the rock, as they cant reach you here.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes.

——————————————————————————–

King Lathas’ Training Ground Ogres

You must have completed the Plague City and Biohazard quests. Here you will find about nine fast-spawning ogres in a cage. Although a popular training spot, it is great experience even with three or four people there with you.

If you want to get to 70 ranged, and want to get some prayer levels in the mean time, this is the best spot. It is worth doing the quest just to gain access.

This training area also allows you to pick up your ammo, so there’s almost no waste of money, and also great experience!

Great experience and great Prayer experience; in each sitting I get a Prayer level and a few Ranged levels.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes, but since it is too much of a hassle going around the gate, it is not recommended.

——————————————————————————–

Levels 70-99

Blue Dragons in Taverley Dungeon

If you want to get from 70-99 ranged, and get tons of prayer levels in the process, this is the spot you will be living at. Many high-leveled players get from 90 to 99 Ranged here, and there is no secret - it is an awesome spot.

If you are not collecting hides, you may want to bring a Fire Staff and some nature runes to cast High Level Alchemy on some of the drops (Rune Daggers and assorted Mithril stuff).

There are many spots to stand here to not be attacked, but you may still want to bring a shield, just in case you are leaving and do not want to get killed on the way out. You will also need a dusty key to enter the cavern.

If you are going to get to 99 Ranged, it will be here. It is better, quicker experience than Black Dragons, but with slightly worse drops. Still, stay at Blue Dragons, because Black Dragons will be time-consuming, and very slow to kill unless you have level 85+ ranged.

Awesome experience, awesome prayer experience, and good drops for quick cash.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes

——————————————————————————–

Fire Giants

These Fire Giants are, in most rangers opinions, the best monster to train on at even as low as level 60 ranging, all the way to 99. Not only do they serve as good experience, but the drops are simply fantastic; including half keys, dragon med helms, shield left halves, rune items, fire battlestaffs, and much more!

As mentioned above, this place is great experience - one of the best for rangers/magers, not considering the drops. No money wasted here, the rune scimitars and half keys pay for it. Only thing to get started for this is the Waterfall quest, or the ability to access the Brimhaven Dungeon, as there are also plenty of fire giants there too.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes

——————————————————————————–

Gu’Tanoth Dungeon

There are Greater Demons galore here. They can drop level three clue scrolls, which means you could get anything from a handful of runes to a Zamorak Platebody or Robin Hood Hat, or Rune Full Helmets and various other drops.

Awesome experience and INCREDIBLE loot make this spot more than worth doing. Do not forget to bring a load of telekinetic grab runes. Worthwhile grabs are: chaos runes, death runes, rune full helms, dragon items, clue scrolls, half keys, and gems. You need to have started and partially completed Watch Tower quest to gain access.

Can I pick up my arrows? No

——————————————————————————–

Black Demons in Taverley Dungeon/Edgeville Dungeon

There are about four Black Demons you can Range in Edgeville Dungeon, and approx. 20+ in Taverley Dungeon. There are many pillars you can hide behind while ranging so they cannot hit. When you come it might be a good idea to bring some food just incase, because Black Demons can hit in the 16s if you get too close too them.

Black Demons are not great experience, but they do have good drops, similar to Greater Demons, except they do not drop level 3 Clue Scrolls. They drop anything from Herbs to Dragon Left Half Shields; also, they drop Rune Mediums frequently and other Rune items too. Watch out for arrow stealers, as it takes a bit long to kill them unless you have like 85-90+ Ranged. Make sure you bring a Fire Staff and some Nature Runes with you for High Alchemy.

Not amazing Ranged exp, but good drops and a small chance of getting Dragon items, nothing except a Dusty Key is required to get to them.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes

——————————————————————————–

Elves in Tirannwn

To be able to reach these, you must have started the Regicide Quest and gone through the The Underground Pass. There are two types of Elves, the Archers with bows (do not try to Range them as they will Range you back) and the Warriors with pikes. Since the Warrior’s pikes are like a Halberd and can hit up to two spaces in front of them, you must stand behind something by at least one space when you Range them if you do not want them to hit you. Elves are good as they tend not to be too crowded, plus they drop level 3 Clue Scrolls and Half Keys.

Ok drops and good exp if you have a high enough Ranged level, you should bring some food because it takes awhile getting used to them and the traps might deal you some damage.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes.

Troll General in Troll Stronghold

It helps if you have the Trollheim Teleport spell to get to these, as it is quite a long walk. You should definitely bring along some Natures and Fires because they drop many things good to High Alchemize, like Steel Plates, Adamant Kites, and almost every type of Warhammer. In addition, the odd Granite Shield makes them great for drops too. Ensure not to attack the one with the sword, as he hits hard and will quickly kill anyone in ranging armor.

Drops great items such as a Rune Warhammer, 16 Nature Runes, and a Granite Shield. They are more vulnerable to arrows then you would think, and thus give great Ranged experience, and Prayer experience since they drop Big Bones. Plus they respawn incredibly fast (like 30 seconds) so once you have picked up your arrows and buried the bones there is another one waiting to be killed.

Can I pick up my arrows? Yes.

——————————————————————————–

TzHaar-Xils and TzHaar-Kets in the TzHaar

You can kill these at the gold mine, just east of the bank. Shoot an arrow at a monster and trap it behind the rocks. The experience you get here isn’t that good, but the drops (obsidian capes and shields) make up for that. When training in The TzHaar, always watch your health. The monsters are not aggressive, but they have a high level and they can hit hard. When ranging here, be sure to take some food, lobsters will do. Don’t kill the TzHaar-Xils with obsidian rings, they can reach over the rocks and hit you.
Can I pick up my arrows? Yes

——————————————————————————–

7.1 - Red Chinchompas
First of all, for this range training method you will need a large sum of money. Progressing from 85 to 99 ranged will cost you about 35-40Mil but only 50 hours of training. Training with red chinchompas properly can lead to 250k+ experience per hour.

The concept of training with red chinchompas is as follows: they do splash damage and can hit up to 15. This means that each chinchompa gives a huge amount of experience if used correctly. The best place to use these red firecrackers is in the Monkey Madness Tunnel where large clumps of Skeleton Monkeys overlap each other, making the splash damage extremely effective.

Requirements and Recommendations:
43 prayer: This is a must. Needed for protect from Melee Prayer 60+ Prayer is recommended to save money in prayer potions.
55 Ranged: Required to wield and use red chinchompas. Level 85+ Ranged is recommended for the best results in terms of experience to money.
Must have started the Monkey Madness quest: Provides access to the dungeon.
Your equipment should look like this:

Helm: Zamorak, Guthix or Saradomin Blessed dragonhide coif, Third age range coif, Robin Hood hat, Archer helm, or Karil’s coif.
Body: Black dragonhide body, Third age range body, or Karil’s top.
Legs: Black dragonhide chaps, Third age range legs, or Karil’s skirt.
Shield: Zamorak book, Guthix or Saradomin book.
Gloves: Barrows gloves, Black dragonhide vambraces.
Boots: Ranger boots, snakeskin boots, white boots (white knight armor - prayer bonus).
Cape: Zamorak, Guthix or Saradomin cloak, Fire cape, Skill cape, Ava’s accumulator.

The Inventory
Your Inventory should look like this:

Ranging Potion: Used to receive more Experience while training.
Prayer Potions: Protect from the Skeleton Monkey’s attacks.
Super Antipoison Used to Cure Poison while getting to the Location.
Sharks: Used instead of prayer to get to the location, any food (Lobster+) can be used.
Tele Tab: Teleport from the location, any tab can be used.

Also a Shark can be replaced by a Holy Wrench to receive more Prayer while drinking a Prayer Potion.
If you don’t want to waste your money, you’ll have to kill them the right way, don’t worry it’s not hard to learn. You need a lot of monkeys and when you start there are only 3-5, but you can get more of them. After killing the monkeys you will see that they respawn from their own bones every minute. If there are 5 bones on top of each other on 1 square, only 1 monkey will spawn at a time so make sure you spread them around.

official mining guide

Posted by coco

Welcome to the Zybez official mining guide. In this guide and manual, you will find information on various ores, pickaxes, levels, as well as many other useful details. If you are looking for specific information and know which section it would be under, it is as easy as clicking the section, you want to go to in the Table of Contents and it will take you to that section. So sit back and relax for a while, and we will do our best to explain mining simply and clearly.Mining is probably the most expansive skill in the game, with 14 different types of rocks, tens if not hundreds of mines throughout the world of RuneScape, and being directly associated with the skill that supplies people with weapons and armor. Mining in itself, just ores and bars, accounts for more than 15% of the RuneScape economy.

——————————————————————————–

2.0 - Basics
Mining is a simple, almost self-explanatory skill. To increase your mining level, you mine ores. The higher you raise your level, the more types of ores and rocks you can mine. Once you know your way around mining well you will be able to tell the content of a rock simply by looking at its color. However, if you do not, there is a handy feature to help you. If you are unsure about a rock, you first want to right-click on it, then click “Prospect.” Your character will then proceed to tell you what is (or perhaps is not) in it.

If you have a pickaxe in your inventory or you are wielding it, you can start mining by finding a level 1 ore, which would be either clay, tin, or copper. It will come slowly at first, but as your level improves, you will find that you get the ores faster with each try.

After you successfully mine an ore, the rock you mined it from will go “grey” temporarily. This means there are no ores available in the rock. Once its color returns, you can mine it again. The time it remains empty depends on several things. First, each rock has a separate “base” respawn time or the amount of time it takes for the ore to return. This base changes by the amount of people on a server; the more people in the world, the faster the respawn time, and the faster you get your next ore.

——————————————————————————–

3.0 - Levels and Requirements
3.1 - Pickaxes
Pickaxes are the only tools required for mining, however in order to use the best ones, there is a requirement. This table shows the types of pickaxes, the mining level required to use one, the attack needed to wield one, and the cost to buy one off Nurmof, the pickaxe seller. Nurmof’s shop is located in a room behind the anvils in the Dwarven Mines. The better the pickaxe you use, the faster you will be able to mine ores and the higher chance you will beat other people to them. Remember, even if you do not have a high enough attack level to hold one, but have enough mining, you can still use the pickaxe! For example, if I had 34 mining but only 27 attack, I could not hold an adamant pickaxe, but I could still use it if I had it in my inventory while mining.

Picture Pickaxe Type Level to use (Mining) Level to wield (Attack) Cost
Bronze 1 1 1gp
Iron 1 1 140gp
Steel 6 5 500gp
Mithril 21 20 1,300gp
Adamant 31 30 3,200gp
Rune 41 40 32,000gp

3.2 - Ore Information

4.0 - Training and Making Money
So you are working on raising your mining level and want to know how to make the most out of it? Well, that is why I am here, and I suppose that is probably why you are as well. Therefore, I will begin off simply.

Levels 1 to 20
At this level, somewhere between one and twenty mining, there really is not a whole lot to do in the way of money, so you want to be concentrating on levels. The nice thing about low levels such as these is how incredibly easy it is to raise it rapidly. If you are at level one, I suggest you do one of two things: Either go “powermining,” and not worry about how many of what and all that, or mine in a way that you can raise your smithing as well.

If you wish just to get a high mining level for the time being, I suggest you start out in the Eastern Varrock Mine mine with a bronze pickaxe. It is not much, but it will suit. The location of this mine is self-explanatory. To get to it you want to go out of the east gate of Varrock and turn directly south. The mine is just west of the road. Once there, you want to mine any tin or copper rocks you can get your hands on until your inventory is full. Once that occurs, bring your load of ores up to the eastern Varrock bank and deposit them, and return to the mine to do it again. Because there are no monsters prowling the area, you do not need any specific combat level to mine here. You can also sell these ores to Valiane upstairs in the Champion’s guild, if you can access it. This is a shorter trip than to the bank.

However, if you want to raise your Smithing a bit as well as you mining, I would suggest once again going to the South-east Varrock mine; but this time be careful to keep a strict 1:1 ratio between the tin and copper that you mine. Bank it after each load; you can smelt it later.

Levels 21 to 40
You are starting to make good progress. You can now mine, in addition to Tin and Copper, Iron and Silver. At this point, I would suggest you try getting a steel pickaxe. A steel pickaxe is not necessary to have, but will make mining faster and easier. You can also by now mine iron without too much of a problem. I now suggest that, regardless of the path you wish to take, you start mining iron by the truckload. There are two good locations for this. You can remain at the Eastern Varrock Mine mine, which I recommend, or you could also move to the Al Kharid Chasm. However, because of level 14 scorpions which reside in that mine you probably want to keep your distance.

Soon you are going to have a substantial amount of iron in your bank. It is after you have a couple hundred you need to start making your first big decisions. You can smelt your iron ores into bars, with a 50% chance of success, provided you have 15 Smithing, or you can try finding someone who will buy them from you. If you choose to sell your iron, I recommend doing it through an online forum, not in game. Look around the RuneScape Community Mining section of the market, and I am sure you will be able to find some people who are buying iron ores. If you are satisfied with the amount they are offering to pay, I would not sell for below 90gp per ore myself, sign up if you have not already done so and reply to the topic telling how many iron you have, what you sell for, and what your RuneScape name is, as applicable.

Keep mining iron, and selling it if you wish, and eventually you will have 41 mining and a good deal of money.

Levels 41 to 58
By now I presume you have 41 mining. You have the ability to mine coal and gold. If you can scrape together 32k, I highly recommend you buy a rune pickaxe from Nurmof the pickaxe merchant. As far as mining goes, it would now be wise to switch from iron to coal. At this level you will have to make do with the coal rocks in the Barbarian Mine, but it will be worth it soon enough.

If you still have some iron left in your bank, one possibility is to begin smelting steel bars and selling them for money. One steel bar requires an iron and two coal, sells on average at 600gp each. However, if you do not have any iron left and do not feel like getting more, or you do not have 30 Smithing to smelt the steel bars, you could also just mine coal and sell it for about 200gp each. I must admit, this is where mining gets the most boring thus far, so make sure you keep at it.

You could also continue powermining iron if you wish; the best place is in the Grand Tree mine, as there are about 6 iron rocks right beside each other. Simply mine one ore, drop it, then move on to the next one - this is very fast exp.

Another alternative for members, is that of mining granite at the desert quarry, located south-east of the Bandit Camp. The experience for these ores is greater than coal, and can be mined with great ease.

The mine south to Falador, has many rocks, including iron and gold. It’s a good spot to powermine iron ore and bank isn’t that far as well.

Levels 59 to 74
Similarly with the above bracket, you could continue powermining iron if you wish. However, this level bracket is where you can really begin to get the most out of mining. You may not realize it, but as with all guilds, you can access the Miners’ Guild accessed before you ever reach 60 mining. Well, specifically, you need 59. My suggestion is to buy a number of Dwarven Stouts from the tavern in Falador. Drinking one of these will temporarily raise your mining and Smithing levels by one, enabling you to get into the guild if you drink one just before going down the ladder or clicking the door to enter the guild.

Once you have gotten into the guild, you want to start mining coal. When mining, if you find one server too crowded, you want to switch to one of the more popular worlds. On free-to-play, those would most likely be servers 1, 3, 4, and 5. It does not seem to make much sense, but everyone has the same mindset: go to the less crowded worlds. Because of that, there are less people in the guild on the more popular servers. Keep mining until you have a complete load full of coal, then head north to the ladders. Climb one, and click to the north of the circle of buildings around you. Eventually a bank will come into sight. Enter it and deposit your coal. Then get out another Dwarven stout, and head back to the mine. After a number of trips, probably about ten, you will have 60 mining and several hundred coal in your bank.

From level 60 mining, you can do whatever you want. In the Miners’ Guild are 37 coal rocks and 5 Mithril rocks. You can continue to mine coal, or you can move to Mithril ores, which sell for about 350gp each. Just be aware, if you move to Mithril, you are going to spend more time mining the same amount of ores due to the much higher level required. One good strategy at this level, if you want to raise your Smithing level as well, is to mine both coal and iron and periodically smith them into steel bars, provided you have 30 smithing. Once you have a large amount of steel bars, you can do one of two things: you can smith them into steel items and further raise your Smithing level, or you can sell them to a player via Runescape Community or another forum for about 500gp per bar. If you are a member, a great way to make money is to smith cannonballs from the steel bars you make.

Levels 75 to 84
You have done it. You got as far as being able to mine Adamantite, which is no easy feat. By this level, you can mine both coal and Mithril confidently, getting coal on the first swing quite frequently. The only way I can help you at this point is to suggest, if you have a combat level above 70, to begin mining with caution at the Hobgoblin Mine, which is directly north of Edgeville in about level 32 wilderness. However, it is a long walk to the Edgeville bank, the 32 coal, 19 Mithril, and 8 Adamantite rocks of this mine are far better than the mining guild at your level. If you decide to mine here, bring a melee weapon, rune pickaxe, and a couple food items, as there are aggressive level 28 hobgoblins (regardless of your combat level) and the always-looming threat of a Player Killer.

Levels 85 to 99
You did it. You can now call yourself an official rune-miner. If you want to start making some big cash, you can start mining the Rune Rocks up in level 46 wilderness. Just be very careful, though, as people often try their luck against a couple rune ores. If you want to go for 99 mining, now, you probably want to start “power-mining”–dropping the ores as you mine. It allows for faster XP as you never have to make trips back and forth to a bank. However, as a downside, you cannot make any kind of profit mining this way.

Levels 65 to 99 ( Powermining granite )
As players have stated, you can get the fastest powermining experience in Enakhra’s Quarry. You can get up to 45,000 experience per hour, if you concentrate enough. The best way to get there is to use a camulet. An alternative way to get there, is to use the flying carpets. Wear desert robes, a pickaxe and in your inventory have 25 ( About 10-15 if you’re planning to use Humidify spell ) full waterskins and coins for a carpet ride. With the new quest, Dream Mentor you can use the spell Humidify to fill all of your waterskins.

——————————————————————————–

5.0 - Random Events
While mining, as any other time, there are a number of random events you can encounter, among which are these unique random events.

Rock Golem - Rock Golems are monsters that appear at times when you try to mine a rock. Their level depends on your combat level, as with other aggressive random events. If a very low combat level (under 3-10), you will receive a level 14 Rock Golem, level 11-20 will recieve a lvl 29. Level 21-40 get a level 49, level 41-60 get level 79. Level 61-90 will get a level 120 Rock Golem. 90+ combat players will recieve a level 159 Rock Golem. Rock Golems throw rocks at you, so merely putting yourself on the other side of an ore-containing rock will no longer protect you from it.

Gaseous Rock - It will appear in the form of a rock with green-gray bubbles coming out of it. When you see this, DO NOT attempt to mine this rock, because it will then explode and you will have damaged your pickaxe, which you can have Nurmof fix (use the damaged pickaxe with Nurmof to have him fix it). If nobody attempts to mine a “bubbling” rock, it will return to normal after 20 seconds or so. The price to fix a Rune pickaxe is 1100gp, for other types it would be less.

Broken pickaxe - In this case, the pickaxe head flies off while you try mining and lands on the ground within sight of the screen. You must simply pick it up and use it with the handle to fix the pickaxe. You may then continue mining.

——————————————————————————–

6.0 - Miscellaneous
Here are some other interesting things you should know about while mining.

Gems - At times while you are mining, you will find a gem. You can sell them for a bit of cash or cut and used to make amulets. The higher the level needed to mine a rock, the more of a chance of finding a gem. You will also find more gems if you are wearing a charged Dragonstone amulet (members only). If you have a membership, there are also Gem Rocks in Shilo Village, which you can mine after completing the appropriate quest. These provide you with a gem with each successful hit.

Dwarven Stout - These are purchased from the Falador Tavern for 3gp, and the result is a temporary +1 to both your mining and Smithing levels, which lasts for about 20 seconds, a minute at most. It is quite useful for getting ores before you have the required level, or getting into the mining guild at only 59 mining. Members may brew their own beer, as well as buy or brew mature ales which have double the potency.

Braindeath Rum - After you have drank the Braindeath Rum, you will get +1 Mining temporarily, as well as more Strength & Hitpoints. If you want the rum, then it can be purchased from Harpoon Joe’s House of ‘Rum’, located in Mos Le’harmless.

The Hunter skill is unlike many other skills in-game, being based moreover on patience above training strategy. Players that have started this skill have experienced tracking and catching numerous animals, most of which are newly introduced. The Hunter skill also introduced a new range of equipment, some of which includes tribal-like helms, capes, gloves, and even live animals! In order to start hunting you must buy hunting equipment from players or from hunting stores. Hunting stores are located in Yanille and Nardah (south-east of Pollnivneach).Once you have your equipment, you’re all set to hunt. The first animals you are able to hunt are Crimson Swifts and Polar Kebbits. The Crimson Swifts are located in the Jungle Hunting Area, and the Polar Kebbits are located in the Snow Hunting Area. For more details visit their respective sections.

——————————————————————————–

2.0 - Equipment
There is a lot of hunter equipment that is available from hunter stores in certain places throughout RuneScape. These include traps, snares and different tools used to trap or provoke the creatures of Runescape.

The following table describes all of the Hunter equipment you can purchase and use from Hunter stores:

Picture Name Level Used for
Bird Snare 1 Catching hunter birds.
Noose wand 1 Catching tracking creatures.
Butterfly net 15 Catching hunter butterflies.
Butterfly jar 15 Storing hunter butterflies.
Rabbit snare 27 Catching rabbits (upon completion of Eagles’ Peak).
Box trap 27 Catching box trap creatures.
Teasing stick 31 Catching pitfall creatures.
Torch 39 For smoking traps to remove your scent. Must be lit to smoke traps.
Magic box 71 Catching imps.
Hunter Crossbow 50 * Your everyday ranging needs.

* - The Hunter Crossbow requires level 50 ranged to use, and gives +55 range attack bonus. It uses kebbit bolts, which are akin to adamant bolts in power.

——————————————————————————–

3.0 - Hunter Training Areas
Scattered across RuneScape are 6 Hunting Areas. These 6 areas are the only areas in which you can train hunting on (Excluding Imps, which require 71 Hunter. These are located all around RuneScape). In these Hunting Areas players witness hunting animals. Not all hunting animals are located in the same area; hence there are 6 climates that suit each hunting animal. All hunting areas are marked by the on the Mini-map. Information about each animal and their hunting area are located below.

3.1 - Woodland
The Woodland Hunting Area is located in South of Piscatoris, and North of Gnome Stronghold. Here lies most of the kebbit race, along with a few other selections of animals. Below is a chart of the animals that are within the Piscatoris Hunting Area:

Picture Name Type Level Required Experience Drop(s)
Common Kebbit Tracking 3 36 Bones, Raw Beast Meat, Common Kebbit Fur

From Picture Name Notes
Wild kebbit Kebbit claw At level 32 crafting you can use Kebbit claws on leather or dragonhide vambraces to give them an added +2 strength bonus.
Rabbit Rabbit’s foot Can be strung at level 37 crafting to make a rabbit-foot necklace, which greatly increases the chance of obtaining a bird’s nest whilst woodcutting.
Prickly kebbit Kebbit spikes Can be fletched to make kebbit bolts used with the Hunter Crossbow, and are akin to adamant bolts in their power. Use a chisel on them to make into hunter bolts.
Razorback kebbit Long Kebbit spikes These are fletched to make long kebbit bolts. These are used with the Hunter Crossbow, and are akin to adamant bolts in their power. Use a chisel on them to make into long hunter bolts.
Chinchompa Chinchompa Can be used as a range weapon. They have short, medium and long fuses that can be changed to give a greater chance at hitting a target. For example a long fuse has a greater chance of hitting a target further away.

3.2 - Jungle
The Jungle Hunting Area is located south of Feldip Hills, which is south of Yanille. This hunting area is home of the Crimson Swifts, which is one of the first animals you are required to hunt in order to bring your level higher. The jungle is also one of the most efficient training areas for hunters that have attained level 30-40 hunting. Below are the animals located in the Jungle Hunting Area:

Picture Name Type Level Required Experience Drop(s)
Crimson Swifts Bird Hunting 1 34 Bones, Raw Bird Meat, Red Feathers
Feldip Weasel Tracking 7 48 Bones, Raw Beast Meat, Feldip Weasel Fur

Carnivorous
Chinchompa Red Chinchompa Can be used as a range weapon. They have short, medium and long fuses that can be changed to give a greater chance at hitting a target. For example a long fuse has a greater chance of hitting a target further away.

3.3 - Desert
The Desert Hunting Area is located east of Shantay Pass, just over the bridge lying east. This hunting area includes an abundance of Golden Warblers and Orange Salamanders, perfect for Hunters levelled 20-50. Due to the small range of animals, and a semi-large training area, hunters now have more space for animals to trap. To use the Orange salamander as a weapon, you must first give it fuel. You need to mix 15 swamp tar and one marrentill in a mortar and pestle and feed it to the lizard. Once fuelled up, it can be used as melee, range and mage weapons depending on the style you choose. Below is a list of animals located within the Desert training Area:

Picture Name Type Level Required Experience Drop(s)
Golden Warblers Bird Hunting 5 47.5 Bones, Raw Bird Meat, Orange Feathers
Desert Devils Tracking 13 66 Bones, Raw Beast Meat, Desert Devil Fur
Orange Salamander Net Trapping 47 224 Orange Salamander

3.4 - Snow
The chilly frozen part of Hunting is located North-East of Rellekka. This hunting area contains a good amount of butterflies, so it is strongly recommended to come here for butterfly hunting between levels 30-40. The Snow Hunting area also contains Polar Kebbits, which are another beginning animal for hunters. Below is a list of animals located in the Snow Hunting Area:

Picture Name Type Level Required Experience Drop(s)
Polar Kebbits Tracking 1 30 Bones, Raw Beast Meat, Polar Kebbit Fur
Cerulean Twitches Bird Hunting 11 64.6 Bones, Raw Bird Meat, Blue Feathers
Sapphire Glacialis Butterfly Catching 25 34 Sapphire Glacialis
Snowy Knight Butterfly Catching 35 44 Snowy Knight
Sabre-Toothed Kebbit Deadfall Trapping 51 200 Bones, Kebbit Teeth
Sabre-Toothed Kyatts Pitfall Trapping 55 300 Big bones, (Tatty) Kyatt Fur

3.5 - Horned Graahks
Just north of Cairn Isle is the area where Horned Graahks can be found. Cairn Isle is located just off the west coast of Karamja. As the name suggests, the area only contains Horned Graahks, so don’t come expecting to find a bounty of different creatures.

Picture Name Type Level Required Experience Drop(s)
Horned Graahk Pitfall Trapping 41 240 Big bones, (tatty) Horned Graahk Fur

3.6 - Swamp
The Swamp Hunting Area is located South-East of Canafis. This hunting area is only for players who wish to seek the Swamp Lizards. Not only are the swamp lizards difficult to reach by walking, it is required that you complete the Priest in Peril, and Nature Spirit quests before reaching the hunting areas. Below are details about the Swamp Lizard. To use this as a weapon, you must first give it fuel. You need to mix 15 swamp tar and a guam leaf in a mortar and pestle and feed it to the lizard. Once fuelled up, it can be used as melee, range and mage weapons depending on the style you choose.

Picture Name Type Level Required Experience Drop(s)
Swamp Lizard Net Trapping 29 152 Swamp Lizard

3.7 - Lava
The Lava Hunting Areas are spread out throughout the map, each containing a type of salamander. The Hunting Area for Red Salamanders is located South-West of Ardougne. An easy way to get here is to teleport to Castle Wars with a Ring of Dueling, then walk north, or to use the spirit trees to the battlefield of Khazard and then walk west. The Hunting Area for Black Salamanders is located in level 20 Wilderness, in the far east by the Hill Giants. Below is a compiled list of information for these animals. To use these as weapons, you need to give them fuel. You need to mix 15 swamp tar in a mortar and pestle, using tarromin for the Red salamander and Harralander for the Black salamander. Once fuelled up, these can be used as melee, range and mage weapons depending on the style you choose.

Picture Name Type Level Required Experience Drop(s)
Red Salamander Net Trapping 59 272 Red Salamander
Black Salamander Net Trapping 67 304 Black Salamander

3.8 - Falconry
The Woodland area can be located west of the Gnome tree stronghold, and is accessed by walking from the Gnome gate and west along the south wall. The Falconry area is east of the main hunting area. No gloves, shields or weapons are allowed to be worn in this area, as equipment is provided for 500gp. You cannot take the falcons from the falconry. Below are the details of the animals that can be hunted using this method:

Picture Name Type Level Required Experience Drop(s)
Spotted Kebbit Falconry 43 104 Spotted fur
Dark Kebbit Falconry 57 132 Dark kebbit fur
Dashing Kebbit Falconry 69 156 Dashing kebbit fur

3.9 - Worldwide
Worldwide, as the name suggests, means this creature can be found all over the world. It is the normal level 2 imp, and the main spots for these are Varrock, Falador, south of Ardougne Zoo, and Karamja volcano. There are many other locations, and a little exploration can find them if it is desired.

Picture Name Type Level Required Experience Drop(s)
Imp Magic box trap 71 450 N/A - You obtain a Boxed Imp

4.0 - Hunting
Not all hunting includes tracking down your enemies and capturing them. The hunter skill is separated into differing categories, each with different animals and differing styles of hunting. The compiled list of information below will explain in detail, what each hunting style is, and how it works.

At certain levels you gain the ability to set more traps. The table below shows the levels at which you gain these abilities.

Note: You can set a maximum of one fall trap no matter what your level is.

Level Number of Traps
1 1
20 2
40 3
60 4
80 5

4.1 - Tracking
Tracking is rather self-explanatory - you track down your prey. Tracking involves searching for Kebbit prints leading out of Burrows, then following the tracks around by searching nearby plants, rocks and trees. You will probably have to find the rest of the trail about five times before it leads you to the Kebbit you are hunting. At this point it is vital you have your noose wand equipped. After finding the end of the tracks inspect a nearby bush, or something else the Kebbit may be hiding in, and inspect it. You’ll hook yourself a Kebbit if you have the noose wand equipped.

4.2 - Bird Hunting

Bird Hunting is a very basic and understandable concept. When bird hunting, always remember to bring at least 2 snares. If you are at a higher level (20-40) bring more snares, as you may set more than one trap. The reason you bring extra snares is because you can often fail to see that one has collapsed, or even lag out, thus losing your snares. As the areas where you catch birds are quite remote, it’s a pain to trek back to a bank or a Hunting Store to get new ones.

In order to catch a bird, you must first set up your bird snare. Set it up using the ‘Lay’ option, in an area where birds of a level you can catch are flying around. When it is set up, you must wait for a bird to come by, and if successful the bird will be trapped, and you will have a new option; “Check Snare”. Note that you will only get hunting experience by checking the snare. If you leave your snare for a limited amount of time, it will fall over, and you will have to reset your trap. There are times that your trap will be unsuccessful - when a bird lands on your snare, but flies away before it gets trapped - and you will need to dismantle your trap, before laying it again. Individual birds do have a certain respawn area, so it is wise to set-up your snare close to the respawn area.

4.3 - Butterfly Catching
While butterfly catching requires concentration at all times, this is a very easy method for levelling up from levels 15 to 40. To catch butterflies, a butterfly net must be wielded, and at least one butterfly jar must be in your inventory. To catch a butterfly, locate one and click on it. You will attempt to catch the butterfly and this, depending on your level, could take many attempts. To speed up hunting butterflies, it is wise to have a lot of butterfly jars in your inventory. This saves time lost repeatedly releasing them. Another, more tricky method, is to find the butterflies respawn spot. Finding it speeds up hunting much faster as there is no need to find the butterfly.

“What do I do with these jarred butterflies?” you might ask. These jarred butterflies, when used on another player in a multi combat zone, can boost their attack, defence, hitpoints and strength. See the below table to know each butterfly’s effect:

Picture Name Level to Capture Experience Given Location caught Effect
Ruby Harvest 15 24 Piscatoris Hunting Area Boosts another player’s attack by 5%
Sapphire Glacialis 25 34 Rellekka Hunter Area Boosts another player’s Defence by 5%
Snowy knight 35 44 Rellekka Hunting Location Boosts another player’s Hitpoints by 5%
Black Warlock 45 54 Feldip Hill Hunting Area Boosts another player’s strength by 5%

4.4 - Fall Trapping
Using the fall trapping option is a very good way to collect experience for the Hunter skill. The only downfall is that it can be very popular as well. To set up a fall, you first must have the required items: 1 Knife, Logs (A good amount, any type of log will do), Bait (Varies on the creature, not required but recommended), and Proper clothing for the certain area you are in (Not required once again, but recommended). Once you have those items, head over to a spot that looks like this. Basically it looks like a bunch of boulders on the ground. First set up your fall by clicking on the boulder, this will automatically take out the logs from your bag and set it up. Next, this is recommended, click on your ‘bait’ (Once again varies on the animal, it might be raw meat to fish to even barley) and use it on the fall. Then sit there and wait, eventually the creature will get close and go under the trap. The boulder will then fall and fall on top of the creature. Click on the boulder again and collect the drops.

Using the fall method of training can also be very difficult. Using a fall is very popular, so it is recommended to train in a world with fewer users. The reason that using the fall method can be difficult is because there are a limited amount of spots, and if the area you are training in is too crowded, people will tend to very quickly take your spot. This happens very often as well due to the fact that you need to constantly refill your bag with logs and quickly returning to your spot. A good way to avoid others ’stealing’ your spot is to always keep an eye on your spot. Before you start training, stock up on logs as said above and have a good amount. When you are starting to run low on logs, set up your fall and run to the nearest trees while still keeping and eye on your fall trap. If you see it has collapsed, quickly run back and re-set your trap. If you see your fall has captured the creature (Put your cursor over the trap, it if says ‘Check’ that means you have captured your creature) this will give a limited amount of time to get more logs without other players taking your fall. Be quick though because your trap can ‘Collapse’ again and if it does it is then open to other players to take. Doing this over and over can prove successful most of the time for keeping your spot.

4.5 - Box Trapping
Box trapping is used to capture Chinchompas in the woodland area, Red Chinchompas in the jungle and - with the release of the quest Eagles’ Peak - Ferrets. To trap an animal, simply set up a box trap (bought from any hunting store) and place it in the area where the hunted animal is. Then your trap can be baited (different animals like different baits):

Animal Bait Used
Chinchompa (Woodland) Spicy Chopped Tomato
Red Chinchompa (Jungle) Spicy Minced Meat
Your trap can also be smoked by using a lit torch; this will remove any scent you left behind which decreases the intervals at which they come to you. This, like any trap, has a chance of failing - if an animal walks up to it and pauses, it may spring the trap prematurely, startling it, but not catching it.

4.6 - Net Trapping
Animal Bait Used
Swamp Lizards (Swamp) Guam Tar
Orange Salamanders (Desert) Marrentill Tar
Red Salamanders (Lava) Tarromin Tar
Black Salamanders (Lava) Harralander Tar
Net trapping is used to capture lizards and salamanders. This is commonly used as it provides fast experience for all medium to high levelled hunters. Another bonus is the fact that your trap is reusable, and cheap. To lay a net trap, a rope and a small fishing net is needed, and they should be attached to a special tree located in the hunting area. The trap can be smoked, and bait can be used. To make bait, use swamp tar and the herb that the lizard likes. You can make 15 bait per herb (1 herb + 15 swamp tar). The amount of traps you can lay is dependent on your level. Using anymore than 3 traps at a time for this is bad for two reasons. One being that three will have you running around constantly, and the second being that there aren’t places where 4 trees are close enough to make it logical.

4.7 - Pitfall Trapping
Pitfalls are used to trap big monsters - Larupias, Horned Graahks, and Kyatts. To create a pitfall trap, you will need a minimum level of 31, an axe, a knife, and a teasing stick. You’ll need to chop some logs - any kind will do - then click on the pit with the logs and knife in your inventory. Then, with the teasing stick equipped, tease your chosen animal. This will anger the animal, making it chase you. Run to your trap, and click on it to jump over. The animal following you will then either jump over the trap following you, or fall into it. If the animal jumps over, you will need to jump over a second trap, as they will not jump over the same trap twice in a row. If the animal is trapped, you will need to click on the trap to check it to gain your experience and the rewards.
Note: Keep in mind these large animals do attack you as they chase you, and they inflict damage. Lower levelled characters should be cautious around them.

4.8 - Falconry
To begin using Falconry, you must first travel to Piscatoris hunting grounds with a minimum level of 43 Hunter. Find and talk to Matthias, and for 500gp he will lend you a Falcon and grant you access to his Falconry training grounds.
Note: Remember no Gloves, Shields, or Weapons can be wielded in this area.

Once you have found an appropriate spot, hold the bird, and head south of where Matthias is to the kebbits. Click on one of the kebbits and your Falcon will lunge forward, and swoop down on the selected kebbit. Drops from these animals, as explained above, include furs that can be made into lightweight clothing, used to greatly increase success of other skills.

5.0 - Clothes
The rewards for hunting animals come in the form of useful dress wear. Some items help with the hunting skill, while others are useful for other skills. To make the clothes, take the required fur and money to the Fancy Clothes Store, located just South-East of Varrock’s East Bank, through the wooden gate.

There are three categories of clothes; camouflage, animal camouflage, and falconry fur accessories. The bonus these clothes give is that you have a greater chance of trapping a creature as they provide greater camouflage. Details on how to obtain them are as follows:

Picture Animal hunted Item Level Required Cost per piece Effect

6.0 - Strategies
I’m going to be brutally honest right off the bat, you shouldn’t plan on training hunting if you expect to gain decent profit or benefit in any significant way, however it is still a skill that many players choose to train simply because they enjoy playing the game. The act of hunting itself usually relies on trapping or fooling animals in order to capture them and their contents. In this guide I will explain the most efficient method of training hunting that I’ve found from my own experiences.

Please keep in mind that this is a strategy guide, not a skill guide. Therefore I will skip most of the hunting methods simply because I’ve found them to be inefficient. I’m sure that some other players have found methods other than what I’ve listed in certain level categories that suit them better and I am in no way saying that this guide shows THE best way to train hunting, but the best way I found to train hunting. And trust me, I’ve tried many ways.

Beginner Hunting

Crimson Swifts (1 - 5)

Items:
Bird snare - Yanille Hunting Shop
Jungle camo top (Optional) - Exchange for 2 Feldip weasel furs and 20gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the south-eastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Jungle camo bottom (Optional) - Exchange for 2 Feldip weasel furs and 20gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Dramen or Lunar Staff - If you wish to use Fairy Rings to get to this spot

Note that wearing camo or fur clothes will drive away some of the suspiciousness from the animals which you are trying to capture. See next section for more info.

How to get there
By far the fastest way to the Feldip Hills hunting area is by using Fairy Rings and heading south. The code for the fairy ring spot north of the Jungle Hunting Ground is AKS. Another possible way to reach this hunting area is to use Gnome Gliders and run South. Note: To use the Fairy Rings, you must have completed Fairy Tale Part I and up to step 8 on Fairy Tale Part II. A dramen or lunar staff is also required to operate the Fairy Rings. Also, to use Gnome Glider to Feldip Hills completion of One Small Favour and The Grand Tree quests.

The Strategy
Starting off hunting will not be very easy or fun. Your traps will fail most of the time and reaching level 2 might seem to take forever. A good amount of patience is required if you plan to get good at this skill. Head to the area south of Feldip Hills until you see Crimson Swift birds flying in the air. Go ahead and set your trap on the ground. Since you are just beginning to hunt, it’s a good idea to step away from the trap slightly (7 - 9 squares away is fine) to help attract birds onto your snare. If a bird lands on your snare but does not get caught, you will need to dismantle it and reset it, otherwise no bird will attempt your trap. If your trap has stood for too long, it will fall over and appear as a typical item on the ground.

A trap can fall if:
No creature has attempted it for too long.
A creature attempted it but was not caught, and the player who set the trap did not dismantle it.
A creature has been caught but the player who set the trap did not check and dismantle it.
You will receive bones and feathers which are associated with the bird you’ve caught. Or in this case, red feathers. They don’t serve any special purpose other than the likes of regular chicken feathers such as feathering arrows and such. Keep catching crimson swifts until you are level 5, then you are ready to hunt a more challenging creature.

Golden Warblars (5 - 9)

Items:
Bird snare - Yanille Hunting Shop
Waterskins - Shantay Pass
Desert camo top (Optional) - Exchange for 2 Desert devil furs and 20gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Desert camo bottom (Optional) - Exchange for 2 Desert devil furs and 20gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Shanty Pass - Needed to get within the desert
200 Gold pieces - Needed if you wish to use Magic Carpets
Dramen or Lunar Staff - If you wish to use Fairy Rings to get to this spot

How to get there
The fastest way to the Desert Hunting Area would be to use Magic Carpets. With the completion of the Golem quest, you can use the magic carpet to fly from Shanty Pass to the Ruins of Uzer. From there, head west until you reach the Hunting Area. If you have not done the Golem quest, it is suggested you use the Fairy Ring code DLQ and then head north to the Desert Hunting Area.

The Strategy
You will now be hunting in the desert, so be sure bring waterskins to help maintain yourself. Make your way past Shantay’s Pass and stop at about halfway to Uzer. Go ahead and continue setting your traps as before until you reach level 9. There isn’t much difference between hunting warblars and the crimson swifts.

Copper Longtails (9 - 19)

Items:
Bird snare - Yanille Hunting Shop
Wood camo top (Optional) - Exchange for 2 Common kebbit furs and 20gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Wood camo bottom (Optional) - Exchange for 2 Common kebbit furs and 20gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Dramen or Lunar Staff - If you wish to use Fairy Rings to get to this spot

How to get there
The Woodland spot is one of the easiest training spots to reach. The code for the fairy ring spot north of the Woodland Hunting Ground is AKQ. From there, just head south until you see Copper Longtails. Note: To use the Fairy Rings, you must have completed Fairy Tale Part I and up to step 8 on Fairy Tale Part II. A dramen or lunar staff is also required to operate the Fairy Rings.

The Strategy
To hunt copper longtails, you will need to make a long trip to the Piscatoris woods area if you do not have access to Fairy Rings. The longtails are a lot smarter than the swifts or warblars, therefore you will need a lot of patience to achieve level 19, which is when you will move on to the next creature.

Tropical Wagtails (19 - 33)

Items:
Bird snare - Yanille Hunting Shop
Jungle camo top (Optional) - Exchange for 2 Feldip weasel furs and 20gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Jungle camo bottom (Optional) - Exchange for 2 Feldip weasel furs and 20gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Dramen or Lunar Staff - If you wish to use Fairy Rings Guide to get to this spot

How to get there
As with the Crimson Swifts. Fairy Rings are an excellent way to reach the Jungle Hunting Area. The code for the Fairy Rings spot north of the Jungle Hunting Area is AKS. Another option would be to use Gnome Gliders and run South to the Hunting Area. To use the Fairy Rings, you must have completed Fairy Tale Part I and up to step 8 on Fairy Tale Part II. A dramen or lunar staff is also required to operate the Fairy Rings. Also, to use Gnome Glider to Feldip Hills completion of One Small Favour and The Grand Tree quests is required.

The Strategy
This is the last type of bird you will hunt. You’ll be hunting slightly west of where you were hunting crimson swifts (levels 1 - 5). It would definitely be within your interest to bring another bird snare with you because you will be able to set up two traps at the same time upon reaching level 20.

Masking
Masking is a part of hunting which determines your success of convincing animals into your traps.

Smoking traps - This is simply a waste of time.
Baiting Traps - Again, no. Waste of inventory space and hardly helps save time.
Camouflaging - This is a definite must. For this you will need to wear fur clothes that match the area in which you hunt. This will decrease the amount of time that passes from the moment you set the trap until a creature will attempt it.
Polar - Northern/colder areas including the land which geographically resembles North America Rellekka. Wear Sabretooth or polar camo.
Wood - Piscatoris woods area and other forest-like environments. Wear Spined larupia or woodland camo.
Jungle - South of Feldip Hills and other jungle-like environments. Wear Spined larupia or jungle camo.
Desert - Southern/sandy areas including the hunting area between Uzer and Shantay Pass. Wear Horned graahk or desert camo.
Stepping away - Believe it or not, this does help decrease the amount of time it takes for a creature to attempt your trap. I myself haven’t tried it so much after level 40 because by the time your level is high enough to set multiple traps at the same time, you’re going to be spending more time running around and resetting your traps than running away and waiting for something to attempt it.

Experienced Hunting

Kebbits (33 - 53)

Items:
Knife - Outside of Lumbridge castle spawn.
Chisel - General stores
Any metal axe/hatchet - Buy from Bob’s axes in Lumbridge.
Spined larupia hat (Recommended) - Exchange for 1 perfect larupia fur and 500gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Spined larupia top (Recommended) - Exchange for 1 tatty or perfect larupia fur and 100gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Spined larupia legs (Recommended) - Exchange for 1 tatty or perfect larupia fur and 100gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Dramen or Lunar Staff - If you wish to use Fairy Rings Guide to get to this spot

How to get there
As with the Crimson Swifts and Tropical Wagtails, the Fairy Rings are an excellent way to reach the Jungle Hunting Area. The code for the fairy ring spot north of the Jungle Hunting Area is AKS. Another option would be to use Gnome Gliders and run South to the Hunting Area.

The fall technique is different from snaring birds. Once at the jungle, begin cutting down jungle trees because you will need a log for every time you reset your trap. This will become tiresome but the effort is worth it. You will hunt barbtailed kebbits by tricking them under a heavy rock. After gathering a reasonable amount of wood, go ahead and set up your trap one of the fall rock trap areas. Keep in mind that a fall trap can only be used by one person at a time, so you might have to battle with other hunters for the position. You will receive a barbtail harpoon for each kebbit you trap. Once you have one of their unique drop, you don’t need anymore, so you can afford to drop them. Do Barbtailed Kebbits until level 45. Then do Prickly Kebbits. While doing the Prickly ones, use your chisel on the kebbit spikes. If you do this, you’ll have about 2200 kebbit bolts.

Chinchompas (53 - 59)

Items:
3 or more box traps - Yanille Hunting Shop
Spined larupia hat (Recommended) - Exchange for 1 perfect larupa fur and 50gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Spined larupia top (Recommended) - Exchange for 1 tatty or perfect larupa fur and 50gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Spined larupia legs (Recommended) - Exchange for 1 tatty or perfect larupa fur and 50gp at the Fancy Clothes Store in the southeastern section of Varrock past the gate.
Dramen or Lunar Staff - If you wish to use Fairy Rings to get to this spot

How to get there
To reach the woodland spot, the fastest way would be to, again, use Fairy Rings. The code for the fairy ring spot north of the Woodland Hunting Ground is AKQ. From there, just head south until you see the Chinchompas. Note: To use the Fairy Rings, you must have completed Fairy Tale Part I and up to step 8 on Fairy Tale Part II. A dramen or lunar staff is also required to operate the Fairy Rings.

The Strategy
Trapping Chinchompas is similar to bird snaring. You will not need additional items besides box traps themselves, because you will be catching Chinchompas alive. Head back to the Piscatoris woods area and begin hunting the little devils.
Note: Chinchompas’ properties resemble metal throwing knives: they can be wielded in one hand and used and ranged weapons.

Red Salamanders (59 - 80)
3 or more small fishing nets - Most fishing shops such as at Port Sarim and Catherby.
3 or more ropes - Shantay’s Pass or Ardougne Adventurer’s Shop.
Any camo headgear (Recommended)
Any camo top (Recommended)
Any camo bottom (Recommended)

How to get there
This spot is a little more tricky than all the other hunting areas. To reach this hunting ground, the fastest way would probably be to use an Ardougne Teleport Spell (Level 51 Magic required and 2 Law and Water Runes). Another option would be to use the Watchtower teleport (Level 58 Magic required and 2 Law and Earth Runes). Even another option would be to use the Ring of Dueling to teleport to Castle Wars, and then walk a short distance north to the hunting area. Using the Ring of Dueling does not require a set magic level (good for skillers or others who do not wish to gain magic experience). Using the Watchtower teleport spell also requires completion of the Watch Tower quest). If you use the Ardougne Teleport, head south-west, through the battlefield and you’re there. If you plan on using the Watchtower Teleport spell, head north to the battlefield, cross the bridge, head west and you’re there.

The Strategy
Different camo suits don’t have any significant effect on lava/wilderness hunting areas, but not wearing any camo clothing at all is a disadvantage. Head southwest of Ardougne until you find an altar with lava around it. Similar to the falls (33 - 53), each trap here can only be used by one person at a time, so prepare to defend your position (or change worlds). In this particular case, I would recommend using 3 of the 4 traps on the southwestern side of this hunting area because the traps are closer to each other, therefore not as much moving around is needed. You can keep releasing the salamanders as you catch them because you will not need them unless you plan on preparing them into weapons.

Master Hunting

Red (Carnivorous) Chinchompas (80 - 99)

Items:
5 or more box traps - Yanille Hunting Shop
Dramen Staff - If you wish to use Fairy Rings to get to this spot

How to get there
As with the Crimson Swifts and Tropical Wagtails, the Fairy Rings are an excellent way to reach the Jungle Hunting Area. The code for the fairy ring spot north of the Jungle Hunting Area is AKS. Once there, head south until you reach the Hunting grounds. Another option would be to use Gnome Gliders and run south to the Hunting Area.

If you think that hunting Red Chinchompas from this point to 99 is a joke, think again. At this point there is no more efficient method which required least effort and takes the least amount of time to gain experience than Red Chinchompas. This will be pretty much the same as catching Regular Chinchompas except that they’ll be harder to catch.

about fletching in runescape

Posted by coco

What is Fletching?
Fletching is a skill somewhat similar to Crafting, however, it involves creating bows and arrows, and it is a great money making skill.
Definitions aside, fletching is the ability to make ranging equipment. It is a members-only skill, although some ranged equipment made is allowed to be used on an F2P -or free playing- server.1.2 - Why should you fletch?
Fletching is one of the best ways to make money in RuneScape. Casting High Level Alchemy on Yew Longbows, Magic Shortbows, and Magic Longbows are an increasingly popular way to make quick cash. It is also a relatively easy skill, requiring few items to make bows as well as taking less time (as opposed to casting High Alchemy on steel plates, which requires 5 iron, 10 coal just to make one plate). This guide will explain more information of the monetary benefits of fletching in section 4.8.

A drawback to fletching is that many find it boring. Some love fletching and find it relaxing, but everyone has a different opinion. It is also a members-only skill, so if you cancel your membership you will no longer have your primary means of making cash. In addition, you need a fairly high fletching level to make significant profits (level 70 and up); more information about this later.

Overall, if you do not like making arrows or bows, do not take up this skill. The point of RuneScape is to have fun, and you should find the skill you like to do best and concentrate on that instead, even if it does not make as much money and has more drawbacks. Most skills can produce an income. Only those who truly enjoy fletching, or at least can tolerate it, should continue with this guide.

2.0 - How to Fletch
2.1 - Bows
To make a bow, simply use a knife with a log and create a “shortbow” or “longbow.” Then take a flax plant and spin it on a spinning wheel to make a bowstring. Use this with your unstrung bow and you are done! The table below shows experience gained from making a complete bow. Half of the experience is gained for carving the bow, and the other half is gained by stringing it.

Picture Name Level XP
Shortbow 5 10
Longbow 10 20
Oak Shortbow 20 33

Yew Shortbow 65 135
Yew Longbow 70 150
Magic Shortbow 80 166.5
Magic Longbow 85 183

2.2 - Arrows
The base of any arrow is the shaft. To make a shaft, chop down any regular tree. Use your handy-dandy knife to make arrow shafts (the same way you would an unstrung bow). One log will make 15 arrow shafts. Next, you need feathers to place at the end of your arrows. You can obtain these from chickens, the fishing shop, or other players. After this, you need to smith arrowheads. If you want to make iron arrows, make iron bars. One iron bar will make 15 arrowheads. Now, to attach them all together you must use your feathers on the shafts then use your arrowheads on the headless arrows. An update has now made it easier to fletch arrows via the “Make X” option. This way you won’t have to hurt your hand by riddling your mouse with clicks!

With the Big Chompy Bird Hunting quest, you can make Ogre Arrows. These arrows require different materials then regular arrows and can only the Ogre Bow uses the arrows. Here is how to make them. For the arrow shaft, go to the area that the Chompy quest takes place in. You will see pointy Achey trees. Cut these down and use a knife with them to make Ogre arrow shafts. Use feathers with the shafts to make Flighted Ogre Arrows. Kill some wolves (the best place is White Wolf Mountain) and use a chisel with the wolf bones to make Ogre Arrowheads and attach them to the arrows.

NOTE: When making Ogre shafts and Arrow tips, you receive an uneven amount of shafts/tips every time. For example, one Achey log may give 3 shafts, while another gives 6. It is the same thing with the arrowheads. In addition, 4 feathers are required for every Ogre arrow shaft. The experience gained from the arrows varies as well.

2.3 - Crossbows
The ability to carefully craft crossbows is an ancient dwarven art. To make a crossbow, use a knife on any type of log, and choose to make a crossbow stock (cannot be done with magic logs) - this method also uses the “make-x” option. Using the Smithing skill, you are able to make “limbs” for the crossbow using one metal bar at an anvil. As each metal has a different flexibility and weight, the type of limb needed for the crossbow is determined by the type of wood you used to make the stock. Other combinations will not work. Once you have both, merge the stock and the limbs together, to make an unstrung crossbow. Once you’ve done so, you are able to string it using a crossbow string (cooked beef made into sinew, then spun at a spinning wheel - level 3 Cooking and 10 Crafting required).

2.4 - Bolts
Adding tips to the ends of bolts never used to be very common practice amongst Runescapians. However, since several new bolt types have been added to the game, quite a number of people have been utilising them. With the exception of the barbed bolttips and the mithril grapple, you are able to simply use a chisel to cut other gems, and choose an option to make bolttips, gaining a small amount of fletching XP (included in the total XP column). You are able to add these tips to metal bolts you have made using the Smithing skill. Once this has been done, you are even able to enchant them to have special abilities when versing players or monsters.

Dragonstone bolttips 71 12 Rune bolt 8.2 106.4 Dragonstone bolts
Onyx bolttips 73 24 Rune bolt 9.4 234.6 Onyx bolts

2.5 - Darts
Making darts is quite simple, but it is rarely used. Simply make dart tips by using a metal bar on an anvil and add feathers to them using the double-click method. Each bar will make 10 dart tips, which will then become 10 Darts.

Picture Name Level XP
Bronze Dart 1 1.8
Iron Dart 22 3.2
Steel Dart 37 7.5
Mithril Dart 52 11.2
Adamant Dart 67 15
Runite Dart 81 18.8

3.0 - Training Methods & Locations
This is simply what you should fletch at each level. You also need to bring up your Woodcutting skill along with fletching, unless you plan to buy all your logs. This is very pricey and disfavored, as those who have the money to buy their way to 85 fletching do not NEED the extra cash obtained by it. Just woodcut everything you fletch and you will be fine.

3.1 - What should you fletch at this level?
Levels 1-30
For the beginning levels, either arrows or bows will get you far. Bows are good, as they are faster and require less item gathering. Always make the best possible bow you can make, unless your woodcutting level is not high enough to chop efficiently. Start with Shortbows and work your way up to level 30.

Levels 30-50
For this level range you can still make bows, however in order to speed up the leveling process it is a good idea to make a few thousand steel arrows. Remember, you do not “fail” when making bows and arrows, so level 30 is as good as 50 when it comes to quality. Again, you should always fletch the highest-level bow/arrow you can, unless your woodcutting level restricts you.

Levels 51-70
The fastest way to get from level 51 to 70 is making willow longbows. Willow logs are 30-40gp each so it won’t cost you much, also you get some money back by selling the bows to various shops.

Levels 70+
Here is where the real magic begins. Fletch yew longbows for the best money until your fletching is level 85, and after that you can make magic longbows if you have the money to buy Magic logs or if you have the time to woodcut a lot of them. During this time your woodcut should be higher than 75. If you cut all the yews that you fletch it will be 85+. If you have a lot of time, you could try woodcutting (Note that 85+ woodcutting and a good spot are recommended to efficiently chop magic logs). However, if you’re powertraining then buying is the way to go.

3.2 - What is a good strategy for leveling?
Fletching Bows
The basic strategy for fletching is to get through the bows as quickly as possible. You will fletch a ton of bows in your RuneScape lifetime, and probably get very bored. Our strategy is to minimize the time spent and maximize the fun. Keeping the knife as close to the chat box as possible is a good idea, as well as making it so you do not have to move the mouse too much while stringing bows.

The actual strategy: check a fletching calculator to find out how many bows you need to make (You can find calculators on this site). Let us pretend to get to the next level you need to make 300 yew longbows. First, get your axe if you wish to woodcut these yew logs (Note, if you wish to speed things up and if you have money to spare you could simply buy 300 yew logs for 90,000-99,000gp.) Cut 300 yew logs and cut them into unstrung bows after each load. Once you have banked 300 unstrung yew longbows, obtain 300 bowstrings as well. In order to do this, go south of Seers’ Village and pick flax. On your way back, stop by the South-Western most house and go upstairs. Spin the flax on a spinning wheel. Continue this until you have 300 strings. If you have money to spare, buy the bowstrings from somebody for 150-200gp each, or flax from someone for 90-110gp each. This means 300 bowstrings will cost 45,000-60,000gp, and 300 flax will cost 30,000-36,000gp.

In the past, you used to click continuously to fletch bows. Now, instead of fletching every single bow, one at a time, you can fletch an entire inventory at once. To do this, use a knife with a log. A menu will pop up asking whether you want to make short bows or longs. Right click on your option and select “Make X.” Type in the number of bows you would like to make, or alternatively just type in “99″ for a whole load, as it is faster.

Recently an update has meant that players can select “Make All” when attaching bowstrings to unstrung bows, this is generally considered to be faster and easier, although some older fletchers argue that they can click between the items faster.

A lot of people will trade you yew logs and bowstrings once you’re level 70+ for your strung yew bows, and they will occassionally offer money as well. This will allow you to level fletching faster, however you won’t make as much money.

Fletching Arrows
Fletching arrows, while easy, is not recommended for leveling since the materials are so hard to obtain quickly and inexpensively. In addition, in later levels it takes MASSIVE amounts of arrows to make any sort of progress. Gather the materials in bulk, once you have everything you need, go to a bank and withdraw all your shafts and your feathers. Unfortunately there is no easy way to do this! You will have to just have feathers and shafts right beside each other in your inventory, and be furiously clicking back and forth to attach the feathers.

The Magic
If you wish to cast high alchemy on your bows, withdraw all bows from the bank in note form. Place them on the same spot as the high alchemy icon (it changes with the addition as new magic spells, but as of now, it is the 5th row, 4th column). It should be right on top of the “high alchemy” icon on your magic screen. Make sure you have a nature rune for every bow you wish to high alchemy, and a fire staff equipped (or 5 fire runes per bow). Click on the high alchemy icon, and then click on the note. You should not have to move the mouse to do this. On your screen, the magic should make 3 flashes come out of your hands. On the third flash, click on high alchemy again, and then click on the notes again. High alchemize all your notes then enjoy your cash.

Here is a table to show you the amount of GP you will receive each time you cast high alchemy on a bow.

Bow Type Shortbows (Unstrung) Longbows (Unstrung) Shortbows Longbows
Regular 15gp 24gp 30gp 48gp
Oak 30gp 48gp 60gp 96gp
Willow 60gp 96gp 120gp 192gp
Maple 120gp 192gp 240gp 384gp
Yew 240gp 384gp 480gp 768gp
Magic 480gp 768gp 960gp 1536gp

As you can see from this table, it may not be worth it to string maple bows and lower when you are fletching. This is because bowstrings can get expensive and you do not get much in return when you high alchemy these cheaper bows (not to mention the amount of money one must spend on nature runes). If you want to get a good return in cash, only string and high alchemy the yew and magic bows.

4.0 - Making Money
In order to make money from Fletching, you will definitely need:

70 Fletching
55 Magic
In order to make the most profit you will need at least two of the following:

44 Runecrafting

10 Crafting

60 Woodcutting
You may purchase most of the items needed to fletch. Nature runes are ~300 each, yew logs 300-320gp each, and bowstrings 200 each. However, if you buy ALL of these things you will LOSE money. Therefore, if you are planning to buy at all, choose between the natures, bowstrings and the yew logs. Buying the bowstrings is a wise choice, but you should do whatever makes you comfortable.

The Money Making Process
Cast high alchemy on yew longs, magic shorts, and magic longs. Fletch as many bows as needed for the next level and then cast high alchemy on them. You will obtain 400k+ per set of bows, you fletch. Level 70 to 85 will give you about 12 million, if you work at it. Most people do not suggest using High Alchemy on magic shorts as the money is not enough to make up for the time lost trying to cut magic trees. Therefore, you should only start High Alching magic longs when you get to level 85. This is GREAT magic experience, Runecrafting experience, Woodcutting experience, Crafting experience, and fletching experience. It is also great for getting up that skill total!

I. Does this work?
Of course it does! Fletching is becoming one of the most popular moneymaking skills for members. Yew trees, which used to have only one or two people at them, now the trees often have over 5 woodcutters. Everyone wants a piece of fletching (even F2P, if you have not noticed), and after High Alching a large load of bows you can see why!

II. How long should this take?
Getting to 70 fletching can take up to a month if you work at it. It will take much longer if you do not fletch efficiently. If you are serious about getting the levels, it is obtainable in about 4 weeks. If you buy all the logs needed, you can get it even faster! After you get 70 fletching, it takes as long as you need to get the money you want!

III. What are the benefits of using fletching for income?
The best thing about using fletching as your main source of income is it is not market-based. Remember when rune essence sold for 100-200gp each? Now it only sells for 25gp. Why? As more people jumped on the rune essence bandwagon, the prices dropped. With fletching, this is impossible, because you are not selling to other players. You are casting a magic spell that gives the same amount of money no matter how many people do it, and no matter how messed up the RuneScape economy is. While rune and treasure trail prices continue to drop, you will keep a steady income. Moreover, you do not have to haggle for prices. It is 768gp a yew longbow.

**Please note some of the prices on here might not be 100% accurate, prices are unstable. Please check our Marketplace guide for more updated accurate prices**

5.0 - Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the best places for getting the logs needed for fletching?
Log Where…
Regular Anywhere with lots of regular trees near a bank. A good place would be Draynor Village, Seers’ Village, and East Varrock.
Oak Seers’ Village has oaks nearby the bank. Almost any bank with a nearby forest will have many oak trees, but Seers’ Village is the best.
Willow Two places are good for willow. Seers’ Village has 6 willow trees behind the bank. Catherby also has willows just west of the bank.
Maple Behind Seers’ Village bank are 4 maple trees, a very good place to make maple bows and cut wood (as an off-note, further north of the four maple trees is an entire forest of maple trees. These are not as close to the bank, but it is a good place for Maple).
Yew The best place to cut yew is west of Catherby, directly below the flax farm. There are 6 yew trees there. Keep “run” on - it will recharge while you cut. Use the bank in Catherby. The church in Seers’ Village also has yew trees, but it is often crowded and there are only 3 trees.
Magic South of Seers’ Village and west of the yew trees are 3 or 4 magic trees. In addition, the entrance to the Scorpion Catcher Wizard’s tower has several magic trees. Either the Legends’ Guild bank or Seers’ Village is good banks for magic trees. There is also three magic trees just south of Lletya, and some out the front of the Mage Training Arena in Al-Kharid.

What is the fastest way to make bowstrings?
The main spot used to make bowstrings is Seers’ Village. There is a flax farm south of the courthouse and west of the courthouse is a house (it is the closest one to the church). Upstairs in that house is a spinning wheel.

An alternative location, if you’re just doing spinning, is Lumbridge Castle. It takes around 3 clicks to get from the bank on the very top floor to the spinning wheel on the second floor, making it one of the fastest ways to spin flax.

Seers - Roughly 100 seconds (from bank to spinning wheel, spinning and back to bank)
Lumbridge Castle - Roughly 11 seconds (from bank to spinning wheel)
Another good way to get bowstrings while paying less money is simply to buy the flax! Flax costs about 100gp each because it is irritating to pick. Buy some, and spin it yourself in Lumbridge Castle! It is almost solely responsible for getting many players low-level crafting up.

If you have started Mourning’s Ends Part I, then another good spot for collecting flax is Lletya, which is located in the elf land. The flax is just a few squares off the bank and it’s relatively faster method.

What do I do with all these bows?
On your way to glorious 70 fletching, you may notice that you have several thousand bows in your bank. In RS1, this was a problem, as you had to withdraw and drop them one load at a time. In RS2, there are many simple ways to get rid of this huge bow backlog, saving the bankers thousands of coins in storage costs.

Method 1: Sell to a general store/ranging shop! This is the preferred method for most, as you get some money. The bad side is it takes FOREVER to sell thousands of bows as you can only do 10 at a time. Moreover, the price decreases once you get to around 1k bows. To do this quickly, put your bows in the bottom right hand corner and left and right click for easy selling.

Method 2: Stick them in the party chest! The Party Hall is conveniently located at Falador Seers’ Village. Withdraw all of your bows (in NOTE form, please, or Party Pete will get angry) and stick them in the party chest. You would not be making any money, but you will be rid of the bows quickly and make a drop party slightly more entertaining. If you are the type of person that likes to give rather than receive, this is the option for you.
