Your Views And Opinions, Taking another look at those strange tasks

Now, a Quest is something every scaper is going to have to complete sometime while they play. Whether it’s as simple as gathering a few ingredients to make a cake, or solving a huge interactive light puzzle, they all require you to do something, but also pose a great (or tiny) reward for your deeds.

Many complete Quests for the various rewards. I cannot count how many people drool at the sight of a fresh pair of Barrows Gloves, or a shiny new Barrelchest Anchor. Others complete Quests to boost skills that they just don’t feel like training conventionally. And then there are those who overlook the rewards and do quests for the storylines.

No matter the Quest, easy or difficult, short or long, they would always entertain me when I was bored. JaGEx actually does spend a great deal of time and quality on their updates, and quests are no exception. The dialogue between many NPCs that you encounter are nothing short of perplexing. You really miss out on a lot when you spam click “Click here to continue…”

On my way up to achieving my Quest Cape, I found that I was paying more and more attention to the various dialogues, cutscenes, and storylines of the multiple quests throughout RuneScape. Without these, you miss some very vital or interesting information. There are only a handful of people that could actually tell you the Wise Old Man’s real name, which is Dionysius by the way if you were wondering (revealed during the Swan Song quest), or what the real story behind the ‘plague’ of West Ardougne. Quests may pose many great things but I’m sure that JaGEx intended these to be based on one thing, to entertain us when we need something to just get away from the constant grinding that we take part in everyday.

Discuss.

Yes, quests are certainly my part of favorite part of the game (or used to be, seeing as I’m retired). From the moment I started playing, I’ve liked and enjoyed doing quests; not only for the award, but just because of the adventure.

I think the reason for why some people would find quests dull or boring is because they follow using quest guides. When your following a guide, you don’t get much out of the quest, and it will be a very boring experience. The fun in quests is actually doing them, reading all the dialogues, using your own brain to solve the problems and puzzles. Maybe I’m just weird to like doing things the hard way, but I find it a lot more fun than following strict instructions off a page.

I usually complete quests because I need to do in order to do something else. So, I’ll admit to not really paying a great deal of attention to the underlying plot and cutscenes. I’m not much of a quester, so I usually want to finish it as soon as possible, so I can can go do something else. The one quest where I did pay attention was Lunar Diplomacy, especially near the end when you’re in that dream state thing. Those dialogues and small puzzles were very entertaining and I can probably call that quest my favorite.
